Cosmic Calendar   July 31

Posted by: "LadyHawk_Jax" ladyhawk_jax@yahoo.com   ladyhawk_jax

Sun Jul 31, 2011 5:09 am (PDT)

July 2011 is ending with a mixture of stimulation and caution. The stimulation is coming from yesterday's forceful and energizing Leo New Moon as well as a razzle-dazzle Venus-Uranus flowing trine in fire signs (9:10PM PDT). Excitement is brewing in affairs of the heart - if you can be in the right place at the right time and in the right state of consciousness.

From the cautionary perspective, there is an off-kilter, 150-degree association between Venus in Leo and Chiron in Pisces (6:23PM PDT) in which it is wise to heal old wounds and pains before they fester, emotionally and psychically. In addition, if you are able to tune into the future ahead of time, realize that the fleet-footed Messenger of the Gods - Mercury - is slowing down in motion as it prepares to stop and begin a three-week retrograde cycle on Tuesday evening August 2. Therefore, you may want to get many of your ducks in a row concerning papers, inventory, travel plans and educational pursuits now and on Monday before Mercury becomes virtually motionless on Tuesday.

Helping you maintain mental clarity and concentration tonight is a Moon-Mercury parallel (9:30PM PDT), but just to give you one more small dose of uncertainty, the Moon starts a short void cycle at 11:21PM PDT that lasts until 1:43AM PDT tomorrow when the lunar orb enters industrious and meticulous Virgo.

It is sensible to be a minimalist and drop important decision-making in the shift from Sunday night into Monday morning - especially as tomorrow also brings a sharp square from the Sun to Jupiter, the annual opposition between Venus and Pallas, and a Venus-Pluto off-kilter, 150-degree link.

Love, Light and Abundant Blessings,
LadyHawk

Three-Fold law and its birthing place in Wiccan principles

Three-Fold law and its birthing place in Wiccan principles
"It is a well-known cosmic law that everything moves in circles, and
whatever forces we send out, and whatever thought-forms we extrude from
our auras, unless absorbed by the object to which they are directed,
will return to us in due course. One of the most effective, and also
one of the most widely practiced methods of occult defense is to refuse
to react to an attack, neither accepting nor neutralizing the forces
projected against one, and thus turning them back on their sender. We
must never overlook the fact that a so-called occult attack may be evil
though-forms returning home to roost." {Psychic Self-Defence, by Dion,
Fortune, 1999, pages 77-78 first published in 1930}

The primary source of the popularity of the Three-Fold Law was Raymond
Buckland. In 1968 the first known reference to the three-fold law of
return to appeared in print was by Raymond Buckland  in "Beyond
magazine, October 1968, article "I Live with a Witch"

* "Another of our beliefs is in retribution in this life. We
believe that whatever we do will return threefold in this life. Do good
to someone and you will receive three times as much good in return. But
do evil, and that, too, will return triple." {Raymond Buckland-- Beyond
magazine, October 1968, article "I Live with a Witch"}
In 1970 the first known book reference to the three-fold law of return
appeared in "Witchcraft Ancient and Modern" by Raymond Buckland

* "There is no need for a Hell, or Final Judgment, in witchcraft
because of their belief in retribution in the present life. It is
thought that whatever you do will return three-fold." (p. 141)

The  fact that there is generally a kickback in black magic (many spells reverse themselves
against the spell-maker)
{The Complete Art of Witchcraft, Sybil Leek 1971, page 76}

Have a wonderful day in every way.
Blessed Be and may the Lord and Lady go with you.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Look behind you. See your sons and your daughters. They are your future. Look farther and see your sons' and your daughters' children and their children's children even unto the Seventh Generation. That's the way we were taught. Think about it: you yourself are a Seventh Generation."

-- Leon Shenandoah, ONONDAGA

The Creator designed us with a free will. That means we function from choices and consequences. It is important that we practice thinking about consequences before we make decisions about choices. Every choice I make is like setting up dominos one after the other that produce consequences. Not just for me but also for my children and for the children that are unborn. My choices and decision today will have consequences for seven generations. For example, if I work on my own spiritual development and I walk the Red Road, the odds are that my children will. They will marry and their children will follow the Red Road and so will my grandchildren even up to the seventh generation. This will happen because of the choices and decisions that I make today.

Great Spirit, grant that the choices and decisions that I make today will honor Your laws and values. May I live in peace today that will ripple into the seventh generation.

Sun Jul 31, 2011 7:51 pm (PDT)

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"You want to know who's a real medicine man? He's the one who doesn't say 'I'm a medicine man.' He doesn't ask you to come to him. You've got to go and ask him. And you'll find he's always there among his own people."

-- Louis Farmer, ONONDAGA

The Medicine Man is a role model of what it is like to live in harmony and balance with the Creator. It takes a long time, a lot of sacrifice and discipline to become a Medicine Man. A Medicine Man is humble and never crass about anything. He knows he lives to do the will of the Great Spirit. He knows he is to help the people. He lives very low key - the more low key he lives, the more people seek him out - and such is life. The more one serves the people and is quiet about it, the more he is sought out. The quieter he is, the more powerful is his medicine.

Great Spirit, allow me this day to be humble. Allow me this day not to seek attention, but to live quietly and keep my focus and attention on serving You.

Pagan Charity: Do We Practice It?

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:03 pm (PDT)

Pagan Charity: Do We Practice It?

Paganism and Witchcraft are, by their very nature, run almost entirely by volunteers. We are our own priestesses and priests. We usually meet in each other's homes. We don't have much in the way of buildings and facilities, and our teachers and clergy need to have "day jobs" for the most part. This means we do what we do for love, but it can lead to a cavalier attitude toward the importance of our own spirituality, uneven support for our leaders and institutions, and, in too many cases, burnout.

How do we pay for our Paganism, our Witchcraft? For British traditional witches, the laws of the craft state that no charges for teaching or initiations can be levied. There are no other specifics on how we apply our money and our time to our spirituality. Many teachers will ask for money to cover the cost of space and supplies, but few are compensated for their effort. We don't make our livings as professional Pagans or Witches; hence the witticism that the difference between Paganism and the New Age is the number of figures after the dollar sign. (Lady N's Note: I have been vilified time and again--from Pagans--for daring to charge for Tarot readings and spellwork. These people don't seem to realize that I have spent time and money to educate myself on these matters, just as any professional in their field of expertise has done.)

We tend to rely on the Witch's rede as our ethical guideline: "An It Harm None, Do What Thou Wilt." This is fine for telling us what not to do. It does not tell us what we should do. In many ways, this is a good thing. Our principles call for us to figure it out for ourselves, in our own situations. But it can mean that we look out for ourselves and those close to us and pay less attention to the larger good.

How do we determine what actions we should take in light of the Rede? In a given situation, is there anything that we should do or need to do to prevent harm? Most of us agree that we should support causes greater than ourselves with our time and money whenever possible. But how much money should we give, and how much time should we spend on our Pagan activities? There is no shared Pagan vision of charity that we can use as a guide regarding who to give money to, how much to give, and why. There is no common virtue of visiting the sick, the shut-in, of helping the elders among us. There are many activities present in conventional religions that are missing among us. Some of this we see as a good thing; there is no one to tell us what to believe, or who tries to part us from large sums of money. But because we have no guidelines on what we should do, we may find that the Pagan sick are alone, the Pagan elderly are neglected, and many Pagan organizations fail or stumble along year to year and never quite make ends meet.

Mainstream religions usually have a core set of beliefs, values, and writings that are central to those who follow that faith. Pagans and Witches generally do not. We have no central authority, and no one sacred text. A friend of mine likes to say that Pagans are not the people of the book, they are the people of the library. We look to many sources for wisdom. But because of this, we may come to vastly different conclusions about how to act. We agree on the Wiccan Rede somewhat, we are inspired by the Charge of the Goddess, but we don't have any clear instructions on "how to be a good Pagan." We have no general rules for how to treat other people except Harm None.

One difficulty is the diversity among Pagans and Witches. We often get our ideas about charity from the religions we grew up in, and most of us didn't grow up with our current spiritual tradition. So we may have very different ideas about what actions to take even within the same coven or grove. Some of the confusion comes from our rejection of more conventional religions. There are Pagans who think that because they grew up in churches that asked for money and they have rejected those churches, they must also reject the idea of giving money to any religious organization.

We also have a wide range of ideas about wealth and poverty and community's role in helping the needy. Sometimes, our priorities help us make decisions about whether to give and where to put our time and money. Recently, a local Pagan suggested that people should cut back or eliminate their cable TV and contribute the difference to a local Pagan project. I don't see it in these terms. People are going to find the money to give, one way or another, or they won't.

Many people do need to set better financial priorities, but if cable TV is your main form of entertainment and news, and having it actually saves money because less money is spent for other forms of amusement, it is a simplistic suggestion. And those expensive lattes that some of us buy may seem like a mindless habit, but what if it is your way to contribute to the owner, who is an old high school friend? We all have to make financial choices. Even the poorest among us find ways to contribute our pennies to causes we consider important. Furthermore, the well-to-do can always find excuses not to contribute, no matter how great the need.

Where we spend our money and our time is an indication of our true priorities. If we spend money on the latest toys and gadgets, but not on or in our Pagan community, what does that say about our commitment to our spiritual path? If we show up when it's time for a ritual and expect other people to do all the work, why are we surprised when covens explode and organizations fail? Where is our time and money going and what else could we do with it?

Most of us are not starving or living in hovels. We can exercise choices about contributing to a local, national, and international cause that is aligned with our beliefs, or support political candidates who support our values. We also need to pay our bills, feed our children, and put away something for our retirement years. So, how do we balance our personal needs and the needs of the larger group? We have to decide for ourselves and make our own choices. But consider this: if we can neglect others, are we abiding by the law of Harm None?

When the Witchcraft movement first started, it was composed primarily of small groups of people in covens, often working with little contact with others. Today, Pagan groups are better organized, and the social dynamic has changed. New concepts have come into circulation, and communication between groups has improved. The phrase "Thou Art God, Thou Art Goddess" came from the Church of All Worlds, who got it from the novel Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. Heinlein found that concept, which has been adopted by many Pagan groups, in Hinduism.

The explicit divinity of all people changed the social dynamic. From not knowing too much about others in your coven, lest they be compromised and betrayed, there was a gradual shift toward covens being a chosen family. So the relationship of people in the Craft and Paganism have changed over the years; they have become both wider and more significant. Larger organizations and festivals that tend to draw people from many places have added to this trend.

Pagans have become more concerned for the environment and the natural world. If we believe that everything shares a spark of divinity, this must change who we care about--not just those physically and emotionally close to us, but all humans are our family. Not only that, but all animals, plants, and the Earth are our relations.

We tend to see our deities as working through us, rather than above or outside us. Therefore, we must do the work of the gods or it won't get done. Our actions are important. Harm None does not just mean refraining from action, but acting directly to prevent harm. On the other hand, we do not want to become self-righteous busybodies, convinced we know what actions are right, and condemning those who act differently from us.

We walk a fine line when determining what actions to take and what not to take. We need to make an ongoing examination of the resources, sharing, and tasks that our spiritual paths call us to perform. Paganism has become a tribal phenomenon, but people who act as if they have no community don't have community! Charity isn't just about giving money; it's also about taking care of kids and helping each other in whatever ways seem appropriate. What we give to the community comes back to us.

Your spirituality is not just about you and your relationship to your deity or deities; it's also about your relationship to your community and the rest of the world. No part of the natural world is isolated from the whole; this is the way Nature works. What each of us does with our money and our time is the real indication of what our true values are.

The Law of Threefold Return implies that whatever you do comes back to you threefold. That is not a strictly numeric principle; it's also a metaphor for karma. Every action contains potential consequences for ourselves and others. If we don't have some sense of communal responsibility, what kind of community have we created?

Seasonal Acts of Kindness

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:05 pm (PDT)

Seasonal Acts of Kindness

There can never be too much kindness in the world; paradoxically, we often find kindness lacking. We notice this on a global scale: wars, acts of atrocity, and crimes against humanity. But it starts closer to home. How often do we leave the house in a good mood, only to lose it before we get to work? Traffic jams, accidents, rude people, predators, those who think they are the center of the universe...Some days, it seems that everything and everyone is conspiring to make life as difficult as possible. This goes beyond planetary retrogrades and planetary hours--it's the implosion of what makes a positive, civilized society.

Part of our path is to offer acts of random kindness, especially to those who do not expect them from us. There is power in kindness, a power that comes from a gift given without strings, a force that goes out and makes the world a better place. And so many acts of kindness cost nothing.

There are genuine acts of kindness and then there is emotional blackmail. It's important to differentiate between the two, whether you're on the giving end or the receiving end. A true act of kindness is a gift given with no strings attached, something done in the moment, because it can be done. Far too many people commit acts of what look like kindness on the outside only because they want something in return. They need to feel needed; it makes them feel alive. Sometimes the receiver is the one committing the true act of kindness by allowing the giver to feel necessary. The tricky part is making sure balance is maintained. Some people believe that the end result is more important than the original intent. I believe that intent is integral to the final result. Sometimes a positive outcome can come in spite of a less-than-altruistic intent; but, for the most part, intent will govern result.

When you layer seasonal considerations over acts of kindness and work within the natural cycles, imagine how much more power each individual act contains.

Spring

In spring, set the scene for the coming cycle. Spring is a time to plant, both on physical and astral levels. At Imbolc, we plant the seeds for what we want to manifest in the coming year on every level; we feel them stirring under the surface, before it's quite ready to break through. Ostara sees the first buds of hope for the new season.

When translating the spring season into acts of kindness, consider what seeds need to be planted for more joy and peace in the world. Whether it's helping a neighbor tend a garden or making a commitment to volunteer at a local charity for a few hours each week, starting the cycle of planting and harvesting makes a difference. Starting a cycle of Full Moon meditations for peace also makes a difference. Gather a group of people and create a ritual focused on peace. Post it online. Each Full Moon at midnight (in whichever time zone participants reside), if they perform the meditation at their midnight, it will start a wave of peaceful energy that can gain momentum throughout the year.

Summer

If you live in an area that has lawns and gardens, take a look around. Do you have an elderly neighbor or a single parent who could use help with the yard work? How about making the offer? Could a local park or nature sanctuary use an extra pair of hands? Volunteer! Do you have a garden? Do you have extra vegetables or herbs? Instead of only giving them to friends and co-workers, why not share with neighbors or those who don't have a garden? Even a few cut flowers tied with a ribbon left on a neighbor's doorstep can make an enormous difference.

Beltane is about fertility and purification, but Midsummer is the time for community gatherings, a time when covens get back to their original creators and purposes. It's a time for picnics and barbecues. It's a time for block parties. How about pitching in to help organize a neighborhood event? And inviting people who might not normally be included? Summer is a time to build community. Take a minute to talk to that person who walks the dog past your home every day Take the time to ask the person behind the counter about their day and truly listen to the answer. We spend so much time rushing around that we often forget how important the small, humanizing interactions are.

Fall

Three harvests land during the autumn: Lammas, Autumn Equinox, and Samhain. This is a time to harvest metaphorically as well as physically. How can you help those around you be the best they can be? What have they attempted, what seeds did they plant earlier in the year that are now coming to fruition? Where have they fallen short of their goals, and how can you encourage them? The important thing to remember is that you cannot live someone else's life--you can offer advice and opinions, but you must also respect that individual's choices. Sometimes quiet support is the best act of kindness you can perform. Gentle strength often has more of a lasting impact than force.

Again, if there's someone in your vicinity who needs help with yard work, this is a good time to step up. Help with the physical harvest. Help rake leaves. Help put the yard to bed for the winter. Harvest before Samhain--anything remaining should be left for the spirits.

If you have a bountiful harvest from your own yard, consider making preserves, drying herbs, making chutneys, and the like. Besides filling your larder and those of friends and neighbors, consider donating some of the homemade canned goods to local food banks. (Note: Make sure the food bank accepts non-commercial items.)

On Lammas, bake extra loaves of bread and give them out to those in your community. Or make and distribute corn dollies. For the Autumn Equinox (sometimes known as "The Witches' Thanksgiving"), make it a neighborhood event, perhaps hosting one final picnic or outdoor meal before the weather turns too cold. On Samhain, perform acts of kindness for lost spirits. Incorporate a section in your ritual to help them find their way to the next place on their journey.

Winter

There are many ways to perform acts of kindness in winter. You can help neighbors shovel snow or help start their car on a cold winter's morning. You can take elderly neighbors grocery shopping or offer to drive them so they can get their holiday shopping done. Put together a group of singers and go caroling at a local nursing home. Hang lights for neighbors who might be too old or perhaps have had an accident and are unable to participate in Yuletide decorating.

Holiday cards are a tradition that is losing ground these days, in part to the burgeoning of electronic media. Go back to the old-fashioned way of showing affection for people and send actual cards. There's something beautiful and warm and loving about taking the time to hand-write a card (and in receiving one). In addition to people on your usual list, try sending cards to people with whom you've lost contact. You'll be surprised at the warmth and renewed friendships you'll get in return.

Winter is also a time of looking inward. Reflect on past seasonal cycles and see what you want to adjust in the next season. How can you make the world a better place in the coming year? It doesn't have to be in a big, splashy way. Kindness is often more rewarding when it's quiet and anonymous.

All year round, there are acts of kindness we can practice on a daily basis. Caring for the Earth is an act of kindness. Recycling is an act of kindness. Picking up garbage and watering a vacant lot are acts of kindness. Adopting an animal from a shelter is an act of kindness that gives an immediate and enormous return We can smile at the people we pass in the street. We can say "please" and "thank you" at every opportunity. We can open a door for someone with packages, offer an arm to someone in need across the street, let someone make a left turn in front of us, offer a seat on the train. With the economy in dire straits and hunger a growing problem, any time we can spare a few extra items on the grocery list for a food pantry is a necessary act of kindness. There is no reason anyone should go hungry; there's plenty for all. And it's up to each of us as individuals to fight hunger. Dropping off a few items regularly at your local food pantry is a step in that direction. There's no such thing as too much kindness. And the more random acts we perform on a daily basis the better we make our little corner of the world. If each of us concentrates on creating the best corner of the world we can, the ripples will move outward and eventually overlap. We will be able to change the world.

The Legend of the Five Suns

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:06 pm (PDT)

The Legend Of The Five Suns

According to the mythology of the Aztecs and other peoples of ancient Mexico, the Gods have created and destroyed the world four times. Each world was called a "Sun," and each Sun was named for one of the days of the sacred calendar. This calendar, known throughout ancient Mexico and Central America, is the same one we usually call the Mayan Calendar, even though they may not have invented it.

The first world was called the Jaguar Sun, and the people of that early time were devoured by jaguars when their world was destroyed. The second world was called the Wind Sun, and its inhabitants were all transformed into jabbering monkeys before great hurricanes blew their world to pieces. The third world was called Storm Sun, and when a rain or fire destroyed it, only the birds were saved, for they alone could fly to safety. The fourth world was called Water Sun, and it was destroyed by a great flood.

After the end of the fourth world, the gods gathered to create a new one. To do so, one of the gods would have to sacrifice himself upon a funeral pyre. There was a particularly boastful god among them who believed that he could bring light to the new world through such a sacrifice, and that he could do it alone.

The other gods knew that he was wrong, though. It would take the sacrifice of two deities to bring light to the new Sun, and so another god was chosen: a sickly fellow with a skin disease who was so badly afflicted that he didn't mind sacrificing himself.

The flames were lit and blazed high. The boastful god prepared to fling himself into the inferno, but lost his courage and turned back. What would happen now? How could the new world begin?

Gladly and without hesitation, the sickly god threw himself into the flames. So beautiful was his sacrifice that the boastful god became filled with shame, and thus followed him into the fire.

The sickly god became the bright and beautiful Sun we see above us, and the boastful god became our Moon.

The world that we live in, this Fifth Sun, received its own name according to the sacred calendar. It is called the Earthquake Sun, and the Aztecs believed that it would someday be destroyed by a series of cataclysmic earthquakes. But when?

The Aztec legends are not at all clear regarding a time frame. Many Native peoples of Mexico and Central America shared the Aztec belief in a succession of worlds, including the Maya, and it is believed that the so-called Mayan Great Cycle of 5,125 years was originally meant to begin in 3114 B.C., right after the destruction of the Water Sun by flood, and it is due to end on December 21, 2012. Does this mean that the world will be destroyed once and for all by a terrible earthquake?

It is more likely that the Maya thought of the world-shattering "earthquake" in terms of consciousness rather than in terms of a physical event. After all, they themselves made predictions concerning dates several thousand years beyond the end-date of 2012. We can only assume that they meant for us to survive. In fact, each successive Sun or world can be seen as a step forward in the evolution of human consciousness. If this is so, then we can expect a quantum leap in consciousness when the Sixth Sun begins.

Hymn to Osiris

The Hymn to Osiris

Turn your face gently upon us, Osiris!
Lord of life eternal, king of the gods,
unnumbered the names of his protean nature,
holy his manifold visible forms,
hidden his rites in the temples...
God who remembers still
down in the halls where men must speak true,
Heart of the inexpressable mystery,
lord of regions under the Earth,
Worshiped in white-walled Memphis,
power that raises the Sun,
whose earthly form rests in Heracleopolis...
Lord of forever, first in Abydos,
yet far off his throne in the red land of death.
His tale endures in the mouths of men:
god of the elder time,
Belonging to all mankind-
he gave Earth food,
Finest of the Great Nine
most fruitful among the divinities...

This Week's Moonscopes    July 31 to August 6

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:08 pm (PDT)

This Week's Moonscopes Forecast
For the week of July 31 to Aug. 6
(Missed last week's forecast? Here it is.)

Sunday: the Moon is in Leo
Here's another weekend day for enjoying Leo energy and having lots and lots of fun. The word "fun" pretty much sums up the general rule for any activities in this sign's domain. The Moon likes this sign too and probably puts on a party hat when it comes around each month.

Monday(*v/c-late evening), Tuesday(v/c): the Moon is in Virgo
First of all, take it easy - Virgo likes for health to be rejuvenated with rest. Secondly, carefully review what you would like to have completed or at least in the later stages by the New Moon in Virgo at the end of August. Virgo likes to assess and analyze, so perhaps some changes or variations will come to mind re: those projects. The Moon finds this sign to be a little worrisome, so take it easy in the mental realm too.

Wednesday, Thursday: the Moon is in Libra
Libra is always seeking graceful interaction and thusly considers all sides of a situation while at the same time trying to find a middle ground. It's not always easy to be in this sign, even though it rules truth, equality, peace and harmony. If you are the only one who is making an effort towards those ends, then sometimes you and your endeavors can get lost in all that is happening on a different level. The Moon always anticipates that things will go along very nicely when this sign appears, however what often transpires is the exact opposite. It's good to hold on to your true beliefs and values and level of awareness no matter what else is going on.

Friday, Saturday: the Moon is in Scorpio
The natural home base for the sign Scorpio in an astrology chart is the 8th house - the section that rules endings and re-beginnings, the cycle that never concludes, the great cosmic circle. There are people, things, and situations that we have to release and new venues or conditions that we have to embrace. This is a deeply emotional (the Moon rules emotions and Scorpio is intense) sign that calls us to puts matters into perspective, be they large or small.

Check your astrology chart to find which house (section of your chart) has the current Moon sign on the cusp (the beginning edge) & apply Forecast information to that area of your life as well.
For example, the Moon is in Leo and one of the suggestions is to entertain - however Leo is located in the 12th house of your chart, which is an inward energy place...then have a small, quiet gathering. By contrast, if Leo is located in the 1st house of your chart, an outward energy place...have a party! Don't have an astrology chart? Click here .

It is interesting to note when the current Moon is in the same sign as your birth Moon and to see how the flavor of that day carries through the following 30 days.

Current Planet Positions:
Sun - Leo, until Aug. 23
Mercury - Virgo, until Sept. 26
(**retrograde into Leo Aug. 2-26, and staying in Leo until Sept. 9)
Venus - Leo, until Sept. 15
Mars - Cancer, until Sept. 19
Jupiter - Taurus, until June 12, 2012
Saturn - Libra, until Oct. 6, 2012
Uranus - Aries, until Mar. 6, 2019
(Taurus, May 16, 2018-Nov. 7, 2018)
Neptune - Aquarius, until Feb. 4, 2012
(Pisces, Apr. 5-Aug. 5, 2011)
Pluto - Capricorn, until Nov. 20, 2024

Current Asteroid Positions:
Ceres - Pisces, until Jan. 20, 2012
Pallas - Aquarius, until Feb. 13, 2012
Juno - Libra, until Oct. 26
Vesta - Aquarius, until Dec. 21
Chiron - Pisces, until Apr. 22, 2018

Current Asteroid Transits:
Ceres - Harvest the core basics of spiritual beliefs or philosophies.
Pallas - A practical application of information is the best approach.
Juno - Protocol and social practices are highlighted.
Vesta - Personal desires are mixed together with personal responsibilities.
Chiron - Transcend wounds and negativity through compassion.

Note: Timeframes for Moon signs, void-of-course periods, and current planet & asteroid positions are noted for Eastern time zone (USA). Please adjust according to your own location. Times are not given if the void-of-course Moon occurs for a very short period or if it occurs during the night (based on same Eastern time zone).

* v/c = Void-of-Course - When the Moon is void-of-course, spend time working on projects already in progress, creative endeavors, or self-improvement. Void-of-course simply means that no planets are aspecting the Moon as it gets ready to change signs. It's best not to start new projects, sign important agreements, or go shopping when the Moon is void-of-course because the result will probably be unsatisfactory in some way.

** Mercury Retrograde - the speed of the planet slows down considerably. Communications, paperwork, electronics, and traffic can become very mixed-up or delayed during this time. A situation will be in the process of changing, so wait until Mercury is direct to finalize anything. In general, maintain a slower, more cautious pace in daily affairs. Always allow at least two days before (to slow down) and after (to resume regular activities) a Mercury retrograde period. Read More about Mercury Retrograde here

Summer

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 1:09 pm (PDT)

Fragments of fire,
darting white flames:
weave stars into my dreams.
Dancing white flames,
star-insects, fire-fragments:
wave stars across my dreams.
Flitting white fires,
dashing little fireflies:
waft your star-touch over my dreams.
~Ojibwa Firefly Song

Nature presents herself to us in such variety. In winter, trees make stark silhouettes against a leaden sky; in spring, soft colors draw the eye; in fall, the vivid hues of dying summer delight us.

And summer? Summer is a festival for all our senses. The sound of insects humming and buzzing, the blaze of color in flowers and leaves, the feel of warm breezes on our skin, the taste and smell of fresh food - we are lavished with beauty by our mother during the summer season.

Summer nights have their own special beauties. Whether we experience the opalescent white nights of the subartic of the humid heaviness of the south, we feel our senses stirred. And our souls as well, for our bodies and souls are not seperate but deeply interconnected. Summer nights stir memories, both lovely and frightening. The glimmer of fireflies lights our way to deeper and inner connection and peace, if we only let it.

Ritual for the Abused Ones

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Ritual for the Abused Ones
by Rose

*lifts arms toward the East*
Oh Wise One, Athene, grey-eyed warrior, stand with me.
Let your shield protect those I gather today;
Let your spear defend those I gather today;
Let your cool wisdom sink into those I gather today;
Let your owls return memory, in small painless morsels, to those I
gather today.

*Lifts arms toward the South*
Oh Raging One, Pele, spouting volcano, stand with me today.
Let your rage light the self-worth of those I gather today.
Let your lava flow over the damage of those I gather today.
Let your regenerating qualities renew those I gather today.
Let your heat fill the souls of those I gather today.

*Lifts arms toward the West*
Oh Dangerous One, Tiamat, dragon of the waters, stand with me today.

Let your vast unthinking emotion fill those I gather today.
Let your tears purge those I gather today.
Let your creativity surge through those I gather today.
Let your strength empower those I gather today.

*Lifts arms toward the North*
Oh Mourning One, Demeter, raging Mother, stand with me today.
Let your maternal love soak into those I gather today.
Let your implacable protectiveness heal those I gather today.
Let your ability to wreak justice inspire those I gather today.
Let your vast fecundity regenerate those I gather today.

For I gather the wounded ones. I gather those whose parents were no
parents to them.
I gather those whose childhood was betrayed by adults.
I gather those whose memories were stolen, whose lives were wrenched
out of course.
I gather those whose scars are soul-deep; those who had first to be
adults before ever they were allowed to be children.
I gather those who fear retribution for acts for which they should
rather seek retribution.
I gather those who were made objects; those over whose heads were
poured the ashes of shame, unjustly.
I gather those whose peers never understood why they were different,
to be mocked, to be injured: only that they were so to be.

I gather all these, to stand in a circle of protection.
I gather all these, to stand in a circle of healing.
I gather all these, to stand in a circle of justice.
I gather all these, to stand in a circle of renewal.

May they and we all regain virginity: self-possession, skin-ownership.
May they and we all regain justice: self-esteem, proper blame. May
they and we all regain time: memories in due place, knives sheathed.
May they and we all regain health: growth and progress and inspiration.

And I bind this will in a spiral: that it repeat, increasing health,
so many times as is wanted and needed.

For, Oh, you Goddesses, we are under siege; our childhood is under
siege; our children are under siege.
And we must needs heal ourselves before we can be a proper protection.

Oh Wise One, Athene, thank you. I take your shield for my own; your
spear for my own defense.

Oh Raging One, Pele, thank you. I take your anger at injury for my
own; your ability to destroy scars for my own; your self- regeneration
for my own healing.

Oh Dangerous One, Tiamat, thank you. I take your power for my own;
your emotions for my own; your ability to accomplish what you need for my
own needs.

Oh Mourning One, Demeter, thank you. I take you as my own mother; your
fierce protectiveness for the protectiveness that should have shielded
me; your implacability for the ability to free me from the hells of
despair and grief; your joy to renew my own ability to enrich the world.

Blessed be

Blood-Free Battle Spell (for new moon)

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 7:58 pm (PDT)

Blood-Free Battle Spell

Santeria celebrates Elleggua, Warrior Orisha. The best battles fought now are the ones fought without bloodshed. It is a good day to cast spells dealing with beginnings, with competition and struggle, and with battles large or small. A good question to ask now is: How do we attempt defensive magic? Get a piece of red cord a foot long. Think of a goal you are struggling to attain. As you knot the red string eleven times, repeat these words:

With this string I cast. A spell to make it last. Give to me what should have been.
Bind to me what’s rightly mine.
I give love,
and love is divine.
Grant this wish in all due time.
So mote it be.

Wear or carry the red knotted cord for the next several days. Go after your dream. There is no better time.

The End of Life: Exploring Death in America

Featured on the opening page of National Public Radio's The End of Life is a work 'commissioned of sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens by Henry Adams, grandson of President John Quincy Adams, shortly after the suicide of his wife Marion.' Most appropriate for the subject matter, it is the entry into the death and dying information excerpted from NPR's "All Things Considered" series. There are 'Transcripts' of the broadcasts, 'Resources' aimed toward 'people with life-threatening diseases and their families and caregivers,' a 'Bibliography' and 'Readings,' covering a wide range of selections from novels, poems, religious writings, clinical research and actual documentaries from people dealing with death and bereavement as well as visual images, photographs, sculpture. There is a section where you can 'Tell Your Story' and read those that others have posted. This site is an excellent resource, covering real issues of those facing their own death or that of a loved one.

Dream Getaway Spell

Do you have a place that calls to you, a place you long to travel to? If you can’t travel there in person, plan a trip in imagination. Get out maps. Plan an itinerary. Cook foods that you would eat at your special getaway. Wear the clothes that you would wear at your special place. Put on the music of your favorite place. Light a candle, saying:

As I have plotted my journey, dressed for my special place, eaten the foods of my special land, and listened to the songs of my heart home, let my heart rise up as it would if I were there. I will now be there in spirit. I celebrate my love for another place. Blessed be.

Lammas Bounty Spell

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:03 pm (PDT)

Lamas is also called Lughnasadh; it is a celebration of plenty and optimism, and of nature's infinite bounty. It is the time of the first harvests, and it marks midsummer's joyous and fanciful energy. This spirit is celebrated, too, in Shakespeare's A Mid-Summer's Night Dream. To tap into this energy, gather a small bundle of long grass or reeds to braid, and light a white candle. Braid the grass as you speak this verse:

Fairies prancing in the meadow,
Spirits in the corn;
Green Man is flourishing everywhere
On this Midsummer morn.
Grains begin to ripen,
All things bear fruit.
Summer glistens with
possibility,
Blossoms take root.
Fairies whisper secrets,
Powerful blessings to see.
Cycles move and all around,
they share their gifts with me.
Air to fire,
Fire to water,
Water to earth,
Earth to air.
Elements feed spirit,
And the circle glows.
At Lammas, day and night,
We witness Nature's awesome might.
Growing full
And blessing all,
'Tis Earth's celebration Before the chill of fall.
Now braiding this grass,
I mark this day
Protect my hearth,
With the abundance of grain.
The blessings of the Goddess come again;
Place the braid above my door.
Hunger be banished now and then.
Blessings be drawn to this place,
Summer's energy fill this space.
Air, fire, water, earth unite,
And bless us all this day.

Holiday lore:
Lammas is a bittersweet agricultural holiday, mingling joy at the current high season's harvest with the knowledge that summer is soon at an end. Many cultures have "first fruit" rights on this dayâ€"the Celt's version called Lughnasadh; the Anglo-Saxon version called hlaf-masse. In the Middle Ages, the holiday became set at August 1, taking its current form for the most part, with sheaves of wheat and corn blessed on this day.

Healing...A Witch's Point of View

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Jul 31, 2011 8:24 pm (PDT)

Healing... A Witch's Point of View

Witchcraft has always been a part of the healing arts. In the
earliest times healers used herbs and auras, hands and minds in
addition to physical surgery and manipulations to cure diseases and
heal the sick.

The ancient methods fell out of favor as medicine advanced and the
methods to use herbs, auras, hands, and mind/body/spirit went unused.

Today the ancient methods are all coming back into favor. These
older and often safer methods are having a rebirth as more and more
people turn to the Pagan religions and many Christians are also
returning to the old ways of healing.

Take one look into any old magickal grimoire from any land or
culture and you will find a preponderance of spells and charms.

These have survived through the years of persecution because they
were spells that worked so the people refused to let go of them even
under threat of death.

Witches have always been healers. Some are more gifted than others,
but it remains one of our most basic practices. They know how to
raise and direct healing energies, and which herbs and plants can be
distilled into medicines to back up these magickal efforts.

They are part of the universal power that animates all life. Knowing
how to manipulate them, coupled with a commitment to the ethical use
of will, makes the only difference between so-called white and black
magick.

Pagan ethics teach us that all people are responsible for their own
well-being. Once we do fall ill, we have the right to decide for
ourselves whether we will accept healing treatments, what kind, for
how long, and from whom.

It has always been a Pagan custom to obtain a person's express
permission for a healing ritual to take place. Anything less is a
violation of free will, a slap on the face of our Rede.

One of the great "mysteries" of the Craft is that the energy with
which you heal is not your own so it doesn't wear you out, take your
strength, or put you at risk of getting the same illness you are
trying to drive out.

We are merely a channel or medium, a means of focusing and directing
the power. Like the energy used in spellwork the energies raised for
healing are drawn from either Mother Earth or the universal diver.

As with any magickal operation, healing is work, and it takes effort
to make it happen. You know you have expended effort so you are a bit fatigued but are also invigorated.

Healing magick can be done from a remote place. This is called
ABSENT HEALING and is a method of sending healing energy to a person at a distance.

The easiest method of healing is LAYING ON OF HANDS. This custom is almost as old as humanity itself and the practice can be found in almost all spiritual systems. Having the person who needs the
healing present is the most direct way to heal. The visualizations
can be backed up with the hands-on effort that always make the
healing energies stronger.

Healing rituals can and should be tailored to meet the needs of the
person who is sick.

One final thing that must be done after a healing is to give
yourself total health clearance. This not only reinforces the
healing magic in yourself but also makes sure that you don't
temporarily assume some of the symptoms even though you can't catch
the illness itself.
