1. SUBMISSION CALL: Ride, Warrior, Ride: A Devotional To Horse Goddesse

Posted by: "PPB Marketing Team" marketing@jupitergardens.com

Date: Tue Mar 27, 2012 10:47 am ((PDT))

****Permission to forward granted and encouraged ****

Ride, Warrior, Ride: A Devotional To Horse Goddesses

To be published November 15, 2012 in both ebook and paperback formats

DEADLINE: September 1, 2012

Length: Up to 10,000 words

Payment: An initial payment of $10 and a split of royalties paid at our
regular royalty rate. Contributors receive one free electronic copy and are
also welcome to purchase copies at wholesale pricing.

As one of the few Celtic goddesses also worshiped by the Romans, Epona is
more than a goddess of horses and of sovereignty. She's the divine
manifestation of every horse loving little girl who grew up to be a strong,
proud woman who still prefers to do "horse chores" rather than house chores.

We're looking for essays detailing work with Epona, the way equine energy
manifests magickal workings, how horses help us tap our inner warrior
energy, how horses give us strength to heal, and information on other lesser
known horse goddesses.

Submit your essay in .doc/.docx/.rtf format to
submissions(a)jupitergardens.com. Please specify that the essay is for our
Epona devotional.

Note: Works above 10,000 words are welcome, but may be considered separately
for our The Jupiter Papers program.

We are also considering an additional anthology detailing the role horses
play in our healing, so if your essay doesn't specifically fit the Epona or
warrior theme of this one, but does discuss how horses helped you heal from
mental or physical illness, or how horses help you deal with chronic
illness, please send your essay for consideration.

What's Happening Today:

March borrowed from April
Three days and they were ill
The first was snow and sleet
The next was cold and wet
The third was such a freeze
The birds's nests stuck to trees
It was the Romans who gave these days a bad reputation. They believed they were dangerous days,
fraught with taboos and the specter of bad weather.

Greece: The birthday of the Goddess Artemis.  Artemis was
honored on her birthday with a round "full moon cake" decorated
with candles.  The custom survives in the form of modern
birthday cakes.

Greece: The Delphinia, a celebration at Delphi in Phocis, where
Apollo gave his oracles. A musical contest was held annually at
Phocis, lasting several days with competitions of songs and
lyric poetry, favorites of Apollo.

Roman: The Borrowed Days. The next three days, borrowed from the
month of February during yet another adjustment of the Roman
calendar, were believed to be dangerous days and people observed
many taboos in order to ward off disaster and bad weather.

Ovid, Metamorphoses

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Mar 28, 2012 7:46 pm (PDT)

TheGoddess draped herself in clouds and flew
across her many islands to the great mountain
where the muses lived, renowned Parnassus,
and spoke to them directly: "I have heard," she said
"that water rises here, a new spring kicked to life
by that strange offspring of Medusa, the horse
with wings and lightning hooves." Urania nodded.
"We rejoice you found a reason for this visit," she said,
"for you are ever present with us, in our hearts."
And then she took the goddess to a dark wood
filled with caverns and dappled with meadows
where spring blossoms flourished. And the goddess
stayed awhile there, happy in the company
of memory's sweet daughters, marveling
at sweet water rising from the hard rock like
inspiration that comes after a long drought, like
the heart that loves again after a brutal loss.
~Ovid, Metamorphoses

The Roman poet Ovid's
masterpiece, Metamorphoses, is a series of tales about the magical
transformation of one being into another. Dying lovers are transformed
into flowers, maidens into birds, and - in this passage - a hard rock
into a bubbling spring. Minerva, the warrior goddess who also rules
craftsmanship, visits the goddesses of the arts, the Muses. These nine
maidens live on Mount Parnassus, which even to this day is a symbol of
the heights of artistic achievement. There she sees the miraculous
spring called Castalia, the source of all genius, which the great winged horse Pegasus opened in the rock with one strike of his flinty hooves.

And is this not the miracle we each perform every time we create something new and original for the Goddess' pleasure - and our own?

Thank you to those who contacted me. Sometimes just hearing from others can lift spirits. As for how did I contribute to this? . I refuse to work for a company that nolonger valued me. I found other work. And was laid off. I have not found work sence. I nolonger have unemplyement. In 3 years I have had 4 interveiws, but when they see my age (55) they do not hire. If I was not married I could recevie disablity. (many med. problems) I HATE not working. I have never been off work more than a few months at a time. I can not even get a job as a janitor. Not working makes me feel lazy. I stay busy by making jewelry which I sell at a local store but usually do not make  enuough to pay the rental space fee. I also sell online (nothing has sold) I try to stay positive. son is out of work too and he can not. we both are at our wits end.

Where Have all the Myths Gone?
Posted: 26 Mar 2012 07:07 PM PDT
As a Pagan Father I have noticed that for little Pagan children there are no myths that are being taught to them. And in my opinion it is not from a lack of trying, there are just simply not any myths that are suitable for kids. But why are myths important? To answer that question I think that we first must explore the definition of what myths are. Myths are the method and vessel by which, we as a people, try to explain our history and our beliefs. Now I know that for many of us there is very little history, either to our religion or to our own personal beliefs. But many of us have pantheons that we follow in our Craft and the stories from that pantheons will do well as myths to teach our children. But is this all that myths are good for? Here is a list that hopefully answers that question in full:
1. Myths grant continuity and stability to a culture. They foster a shared set of perspectives, values, history — and literature, in the stories themselves. Through these communal tales, we are connected to one another, to our ancestors, to the natural world surrounding us, and to society; and, in the myths which have universal (i.e., archetypal) themes, we are connected to other cultures.
2. Myths present guidelines for living. When myths tell about the activities and attitudes of deities, the moral tone implies society's expectations for our own behaviors and standards. In myths, we see archetypal situations and some of the options which can be selected in those situations; we also perceive the rewards and other consequences which resulted from those selections.
3. Myths justify a culture's activities. Through their authoritativeness and the respected characters within them, myths establish a culture's customs, rituals, religious tenets, laws, social structures, power hierarchies, territorial claims, arts and crafts, holidays and other recurring events, and technical tips for hunting, warfare, and other endeavors.
4. Myths give meaning to life. We transcend our common life into a world in which deities interact with humans, and we can believe that our daily actions are part of the deities' grand schemes. In our difficulties, the pain is more bearable because we believe that the trials have meaning; we are suffering for a bigger cause rather than being battered randomly. And when we read that a particular deity experienced something which we are now enduring — perhaps a struggle against "evil forces" — we can feel that our own struggle might have a similar cosmic or archetypal significance, though on a smaller scale.
5. Myths explain the unexplainable. They reveal our fate after death, and the reasons for crises or miracles, and other puzzles — and yet they retain and even encourage an aura of mystery. Myths also satisfy our need to understand the natural world; for example, they might state that a drought is caused by an angry deity. This purpose of mythology was especially important before the advent of modern science, which offered the Big Bang theory to replace creation myths, and it gave us the theory of evolution to supplant myths regarding the genesis of humanity. And yet, science creates its own mythology, even as its occasional secular barrenness threatens to strip us of the healthful awe which other types of mythology engender.
6. Myths offer role models. In particular, children pattern themselves after heroes; comic books and Saturday-morning cartoons depict many archetypal characters, such as Superman and Wonder Woman. Adults, too, can find role models, in the stories of deities' strength, persistence, and courage.courtesy of http://www.mythsdreamssymbols.com/importanceofmyth.html/

I like you have both purchased tools, supplies, ect and have also made of gathered my own. And I have to admit that i have an easier time using and bonding with those items I have made myself. When ever possible I try to make or gather what I need. But I also have nothing against those items I have purchased or bartered for with fellow pagans. They certainly have their place in my practice.

Maybe it depends on the need. If time permits, maybe acquiring is best, but if there is time constraints then use commercial. Personally, the search is just as important as the tool. Time and energy is put into the tool while searching along with the intent.

I agree that the instruments we make are much more powerful as we are more
attuned to them. But as you say, it is not always possible to do so.

To buy or gather?

There are lots of shops out there that cater to the pagan/witchcraft
community. Many on these lists own such shops, I'm sure. I've purchased
wares from a few myself.

Lately though, when I'm prompted to make a purchase, I wonder would it not
be better for me to either attempt to craft this item myself (how hard is it
to make your own candles?), gather it from nature (as in a branch for a
wand, or pinecones and stones to adorn an altar).

I understand that one can find just about anything they need online, and
when under time constraints it is faster to order herbs than wait for them
to grow, but these days I'm more inclined to obtain my needs more naturally
than commercially, I feel I'm doing more for my craft and my art that way.

What say you?

Merry Meet!
I think that if you have the ability to make your own or gather your own, it would mean more. But I understand that some live in places that makes making/growing near impossible.
I personally love to try to grow my own things (I just recently found out that I can gather my own sage by just walking out into the field next door because of my geographic location!), candle making is not really something that I can do, due to my lack of resources.

Hi my name is emmett and I have recently began to adopt Paganism (it is not official yet for me but I am so far agreeing with the religion at almost every aspect)...I would like to discuss with other members about the religion but out of respect dont message me if your one of those know it alls please...I have began to accept paganism under the thought that traditions and methods can be customized personally as long as it is centralized around the origional theme (ex: i worship fertilitiy and hunt but I also have 4 other personalized deities) so please dont message me if your going to be that person who says I'm Doin' It Wrong

Lovin' All of You im looking forward to seeing the type of people I can meet through this Group

I am married and we have a son and our fur son also. we homeschool/unschool so we are the weirdo's of the area not that it bothers us at all :) I have been studying the path since I was a child I had a calling at a very young age and was not held back by my parents. It is very tough to meet others of the wiccan path and some are shocked when you mention something in a conversation as if I may turn them into a toad.I have been studying under Susun Weed for many yrs now. With

Lon Milo DuQuette

*** MANHATTAN EVENT ***
3 Hour Presentation ! ! !

Join Lon Duquette for a brand new lecture on Practical Magick: The Integrated Magickal Life

Goetia, Enochian, Kabbala, when, where and why!

Magick needs to be a practical art form and aid to one's personal spiritual evolution. Magicians
spend a lot of time and study on the subjects of spirit evocation (Goetia), angelic communication
(Enochian magick), and Kabbalah (meditation on the theoretical structure of consciousness) ...
but how on earth do we use these techniques in our everyday lives? The answer is different for
each individual. Lon Milo DuQuette shares examples of magical workings of his own life in magick
and hopes that they will at least provide a few guide posts for your own magical journey.

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

I was christian also yrs ago. when i here talk about a persons dark side i think of my own. My dark side wants to harm, maim, kill, destroy, etc and i won't embrace that kind of thing. I also can't let that part of me out to play or very bad things would happen. That's why i asked what you meant by dark side.

In honor of April Fools Day, our theme this week is: The Trickster and Fool. We'll take a look at the history of April Fools Day, as well as the Role that the Fool and the Trickster play in Earth-Based religious practices.
Also, a quick look at some of the best known hoaxes in the history of the Western World (well, sort of, anyway
I hope you enjoy this week's show. Let me know!
I hope you enjoy the show! spiraldance1@excite.com

Some of the music you'll hear on this week's show include; Supertramp: "The Logical Song"; Skyclad: "Fools"; Bowowow: "Chiuahua"; Sweetfist: "Don't Stop"; ShoeShine Boy: "Atlantis Morning Glory March" and more.
Please listen to The Spiral Dance with Hawthorne each week. It's an online Pagan radio show (Webcast & Podcast). The podcast gives you the option to either listen to right from the website or download to your
computer. It's FREE and it's fun. Your suggestions and comments are welcome!
Each episode is approximately 75 - 80 minutes. Podcasts remain posted for about 4 or 5 weeks, so you can go back and listen to the other episodes for some great interviews, information and fun!
DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY?
Maybe you've composed a new poem and would like to hear it on the radio. If you want to submit audio to The Spiral Dance, send me an email. There are basically no rules - just no harsh language, no commercial
