Notes:
Come along, have a picnic and meet those of like mind. It's a fun day of laughter, chatting and meeting new people.

The park is beautiful, it's next to the lake with a playground for the kids and toilet facilities including a disabled toilet.

Coffee and tea are available (gold coin donation appreciated). Bring along a picnic lunch or if you wish to cook up a feast use the BBQ facilities. But if cooking is not on your agenda, there are shops within walking distance.

Just look out for the colourful marquee and banner. Even if it's raining, Pagans in the Park is still on, we'll be sitting under the large undercover area at the front of the park.

We have a "Topic of Discussion" for each of these gatherings. These are informal "talks" that start at 1pm and, while we may begin the conversation, we look forward to hearing everyone's opinions and takes on the topics – just bring an open mind!!!

Many thanks for your comment John - I was not familiar with the term "egregore" so looked it up...
Egregore (also egregor) is an occult concept representing a "thoughtform" or "collective group mind", an autonomous psychic entity made up of, and influencing, the thoughts of a group of people. The symbiotic relationship between an egregore and its group has been compared to the more recent, non-occult concepts of the corporation (as a legal entity) and the meme.

... this would be a fascinating, yet somewhat risky I would suggest, phenomenon to investigate from both an occult and psychological perspective... Thoughts of investigating such entities makes me think of the old paradox about a tree falling in the forest... if an egregore is created by a group, can an outsider experience it? And, do all in a group experience the same egregore?

This discussion is way over my head I will admit, but nevertheless, I think it's fascinating to contemplate...

BB, Graham.

Sounds like creating an egregore,or a god.Give it enough energy and it takes on a "life" of its own.

Thanks again Caroline for these added references.
You know I was just re-reading Tanya Luhrmann's blog on Magic, and her vision of the six druids one morning after reading the book on Celtic Britain made me think of the phenomenon of Tibetan tulpas or "thought forms"... I have a book here called "Tibetan Magic and Mysticism" by J.H. Brennan, where it discusses tulpas...

"The Tibetan method of tulpa creation is easy to explain, but difficult to put into practice... You practice the visualization of an entity until it becomes a waking hallucination, then intensify the visualization until the "hallucination" can be seen by other people. It is advisable to begin by imagining inanimate objects, like a box or a flower, then working up to living creatures."

Makes me wonder if any academics have looked at that topic? I see on Wikipedia there was a book written about this kind of thing way back in 1901, called "Thought Forms" by Annie Besant and C.W. Leadbeater:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thought_Forms

Also, I just found a free online edition of that book <gotta love the internet!>. Here's the link:

There goes the weekend! :)
