Thank you. That was very sweet and I'm sure all of us wish that for you as
well.

My wishes don't cost money .. only a little of your consideration and time
Please bear with me while I turn my wishes into a Christmas rhyme

I wish for everyone to know what it's like to feel loved and blessed
and I wish for for you to have less worries and a whole lot less stress

I wish for you to know the magic that surrounds us every day
and I wish for fewer obstacles to get in your way

I wish for you that the years be kind
and I wish for many happy moments to fill your heart and mind

I wish for you to know a love that is everlasting and true
and I wish for angel blessings to always follow you

I wish for you to know a kiss and a hug can cure all things
and I wish you happy smiles every time you see butterfly wings

I wish for all your dreams become reality
and I wish you to know that within you is the ability

May the spirit fill you.. not only now but every day
These are my Christmas wishes for you and they are on their way

I placed them carefully upon butterfly wings
So that they'll be carried to the heavens as the bluebird sings

Merry Christmas

Yule Lore Midwinter Eve

Yule Lore

Midwinter Eve
Like the eve of most holidays, this is an opportunity for love divination. Find an Elder tree and shake it,
saying:

"Sweet Elder, I shake, I shake!
Tell me, ye dogs that wake,
Where is my lover tonight?"

Then listen carefully. The goddess Holle will send her white dogs in the direction from which your future lover
will come. If you are quiet and patient, you will hear them barking.

Source:  Farias, Helen, “Holler and Holle,†The Advent Sunwheel, Juno's Peacock Press, 1989
Blackburn, Bonnie and Leofranc Holford-Strevens, The Oxford Companion to the Year, Oxford University Press 1999

Yule, (pronounced
EWE-elle) is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light
half. Starting the next morning at sunrise, the sun climbs just a little higher and stays a little longer in the sky each day. Known as Solstice Night, or the longest night of the year, much celebration was to be had as the ancestors awaited the rebirth of the Oak King, the Sun King, the Giver of Life that warmed the frozen Earth and made her to bear forth
from seeds protected through the fall and winter in her womb. Bonfires
were lit in the fields, and crops and trees were "wassailed" with toasts of spiced cider.

Children were escorted from house to house
with gifts of clove spiked apples and oranges which were laid in baskets
of evergreen boughs and wheat stalks dusted with flour. The apples and
oranges represented the sun, the boughs were symbolic of immortality,
the wheat stalks portrayed the harvest, and the flour was accomplishment
of triumph, light, and life. Holly, mistletoe, and ivy not only
decorated the outside, but also the inside of homes. It was to extend
invitation to Nature Sprites to come and join the celebration. A sprig
of Holly was kept near the door all year long as a constant invitation
for good fortune to pay visit to the residents.

The ceremonial
Yule log was the highlight of the festival. In accordance to tradition,
the log must either have been harvested from the householder's land, or
given as a gift... it must never have been bought. Once dragged into the
house and placed in the fireplace it was decorated in seasonal
greenery, doused with cider or ale, and dusted with flour before set
ablaze be a piece of last years log, (held onto for just this purpose).
The log would burn throughout the night, then smolder for 12 days after
before being ceremonially put out. Ash is the traditional wood of the
Yule log. It is the sacred world tree of the Teutons, known as
Yggdrasil. An herb of the Sun, Ash brings light into the hearth at the
Solstice.

A different type of Yule log, and perhaps one more
suitable for modern practitioners would be the type that is used as a
base to hold three candles. Find a smaller branch of oak or pine, and
flatten one side so it sets upright. Drill three holes in the top side
to hold red, green, and white (season), green, gold, and black (the Sun
God), or white, red, and black (the Great Goddess). Continue to decorate
with greenery, red and gold bows, rosebuds, cloves, and dust with
flour.

Deities of Yule are all Newborn Gods, Sun Gods, Mother
Goddesses, and Triple Goddesses. The best known would be the Dagda, and
Brighid, the daughter of the Dagda. Brighid taught the smiths the arts
of fire tending and the secrets of metal work. Brighid's flame, like the
flame of the new light, pierces the darkness of the spirit and mind,
while the Dagda's cauldron assures that Nature will always provide for
all the children.

Symbolism of Yule:
Rebirth of the Sun, The longest night of the year, The Winter Solstice, Introspect, Planning for the Future.

Symbols of Yule:
Yule
log, or small Yule log with 3 candles, evergreen boughs or wreaths,
holly, mistletoe hung in doorways, gold pillar candles, baskets of clove
studded fruit, a simmering pot of wassail, poinsettias, christmas
cactus.

Herbs of Yule:
Bayberry, blessed thistle, evergreen, frankincense holly, laurel, mistletoe, oak, pine, sage, yellow cedar.

Foods of Yule:
Cookies
and caraway cakes soaked in cider, fruits, nuts, pork dishes, turkey,
eggnog, ginger tea, spiced cider, wassail, or lamb's wool (ale, sugar,
nutmeg, roasted apples).

Incense of Yule:
Pine, cedar, bayberry, cinnamon.

Colors of Yule:
Red, green, gold, white, silver, yellow, orange.

Stones of Yule:
Rubies, bloodstones, garnets, emeralds, diamonds.

Activities of Yule:
Caroling,
wassailing the trees, burning the Yule log, decorating the Yule tree,
exchanging of presents, kissing under the mistletoe, honoring Kriss
Kringle the Germanic Pagan God of Yule

Spellworkings of Yule:
Peace, harmony, love, and increased happiness.

A Greenwood Carol

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

 A Greenwood Carol

Tune: Polly in the Holly (traditional)
Lyrics by Aes and Etaine of Preachain

Oh the Oak rests in the winter time to marshal his strength
But the Holly stays bright and green the whole winter's length
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

Oh the fir waits in the wood it's boughs bearded with snow
To come inside for the Yuletide the axe it must know
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

With an axe we go a-hunting the green-boughed fir tree
as our forebears have done through the long centuries.
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

The Stag leaps through the wood with his proud crown of horn
And it is through his sacrifice the Sun is reborn
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

The Oak burns in the hearth for to give us good cheer
From Darkness come the Light at this turn of the year
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

The Wheel keeps on turning, through dark and through light,
and we sing to its honor, on this longest night.
Green branches in the winter promise life to be,
and the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.
Holly!  Holly!  Oh the first tree in the greenwood, it was the holly.

Goddess Of The Day: MAKARA SANKRANTI Pongol (India)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Dec 17, 2011 8:56 pm (PST)

Goddess Of The Day: MAKARA SANKRANTI
Pongol (India)

Themes: Offering; Meditation; Earth; Sun; Thankfulness; Love; Passion; Abundance
Symbols: Water; Light; Soil; Caves

About Makara Sankranti: This is Makara Sankranti's festival day. After many months of slumber, this
mother goddess awakens from the earth's womb to restore love, abundance, and passion in our lives
through sacred rituals, over which she presides.

To Do Today: Pongol is a three-day harvest celebration with several "borrowable" traditions that venerate
both Makara Sankranti and the holiday. Begin with a ritual cleansing and blessings for your home in any
manner suited to your tradition. This keeps relationships strong and banishes sickness. Banishing sacred
cows today also  brings prosperity. This might translate into washing the image of a cow, your images of
the goddess, or even a special coin to improve financial stability.

In terms of an offering for the goddess, sweet rice is customary followed by an afternoon of kite flying so
that the burdens in your life will become as light as the wind! For people in four-season climates, it might be
too cold for kite flying today, so just release a little of the goddess's soil to the wind and ask her to take your
problems away, replacing them with solid relationships and success.

Latvia: The birth of the god Diev and the rebirth of the Sun is celebrated with a four day winter festival. Houses are festively decorated and traditional feasts are prepared to welcome the four gift bearing celestial beings who are the heralds of the winter solstice.

Feast Day of Epona, Celtic Horse Goddess  - Congruent with Leukippe, Rhiannon, Demeter, Saranyu, the Centaurs and Unicorns, Pegasus, the Valraven, Vesta.

The origin of Epona was Gallic and had fertility connotations. The cult lasted from about 400 BC until Christianization, in approximately 400 AD. This feast day commemorated healing and fertility of domestic animals. The cult probably originated from Alesia"in the heartland of resistance and location of Vercingetorix's final stand against Julius Caesar.

Epona was arguably the only Celtic goddess to be worshipped in Rome itself; she was also popular throughout the empire. She is often depicted with mares and foals, and holding cornucopiae, sheaves of corn, and fruits.  Sometimes Epona is linked with birds and dogs. This goddess was particularly worshipped by the Roman cavalry. At thermal springs her images appeared naked and she resembles a water nymph. (Jordan 1992)

"Epona translates as "divine mare" or "mare goddess". Small shrines, known as aediculae, were built in her honor by horse owners and often decorated with roses. More inscriptions, statues, and shrines dedicated to Epona have been found than for any other Celtic god or goddess. Even the Romans adopted this Celtic goddess. Her statues can be found along side other Roman Gods and Goddesses. Greek author, Agesilaos, tells the story of Epona's birth. A women-hating man named Furius Stellus had relations with a mare, who in turn gave birth to Epona."

Spell for a Lost Soul

Spell for a Lost Soul

This is a rhyme for communication with your self. It is intended to break down roadblocks in the process of looking within.

Crone of night, in thy abode,
Touch the spirit grown cold.
Hear my prayer, hear my plea,
Send my spirit back to me.
Help me see where I've gone wrong,
Make me wise and make me strong.
Give me wisdom, give me strength,
Lend your powers to me at length.
Blessed be!

Luke 2: 34-35

Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:06 pm (PST)

And there was also Anna, a prophetess. She was of a great
age, having lived with her husband seven years from her
maidenhood, and by herself as a widow to eighty-four
years. She never left the temple, with fasting and prayer
worshipping day and night.
~Luke 2: 34-35

At the pivot points of the year, we naturally turn to oracles and prophecies. Every year at this time, we hear
reports of predictions for the coming year. Many traditions, like that of the "first-footer" in Scotland, predict
next year's events according to what happens at a specific time during this holiday season - in the Scottish
case, according to the appearance and demeanor of the first person to call upon our home in the new year.
Unusual incidents around the solstice are especially viewed as significant prognostications of the future.

But current patterns can be changed; the future can be altered. There is an old Chinese saying that unless
we turn from our paths, we will wind up where we are headed. As the solar year reaches its nadir, it is a good
time to examine where our path is heading. It is not too late for turning. But unless we turn, the future is inevitable.
