Season's Greetings...

We would not normally send a message of this length but due to the timeliness of the story we felt the need to share this with you today. This arrived in an email and is included in full below.

The source of the story is HERE along with a clickable video that runs 5:16.

Once again we offer Greetings for the Season and Hopes for a Wonderful New Year in 2012. Thank you for your interest and involvement with Columcille. We sincerely appreciate your kindness and interest.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Wayseer & the Miraculous Story Behind the Story
by Garrett John LoPorto

Your darkest hour may be the moment you make your greatest contribution, for then you are in the crucible where miracles are born.

When times are hard you might relate to Robert L. May's tragic and inspiring true story of the making of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer". Many people are overjoyed when they hear this story, and surprised they'd never heard it before...

Right in the midst of the Great Depression, Bob struggled to keep it together through Christmastime. His wife was dying of cancer, the medical bills were piling up and his 4 year old daughter was depending on him to be strong. Brokenhearted, desperate and overwhelmed with medical expenses, Bob was given the job to write an uplifting children's "animal story" for a department store called Montgomery Ward. This was to be a Christmas promotional coloring book.

How do you write a jubilant children's story when your heart is breaking and your life is collapsing?

Bob didn't have the luxury of failing, so he focused on the two things that brought him strength ... his daughter and his triumph over his difficult childhood. Bob was always different and never seemed to fit in. He was what some might call a Wayseer.

Despite his difficult childhood, Bob got through college, married his loving wife, was blessed with his beautiful little girl and was grateful to have work to support his family during the Great Depression. But it was all short-lived. His wife Evelyn's bout with cancer stripped them of all their savings and Bob and his daughter were forced to live in the Chicago slums. Evelyn was going to die within a year.

Bob struggled to give hope to his little girl, but he could barely afford to buy her a Christmas present. Bob had to use what little he had to work with to transform their lives - even if just for a moment - into something positive and hopeful.

Inspired in part by his daughter's fascination with the deer at the local zoo, Bob chose a reindeer to be the focus of the story he would tell and retell to his grieving daughter. Her favorite name for this reindeer was Rudolph, and so it was.

The character he created was a misfit just like he was. Out of the imagination of a man at his breaking point, somehow Bob found the grace to tell a story that shed a light of hope and optimism in the face of adversity.

When he finally shared his heartfelt story with the supervisor in the catalog copy department of Montgomery Ward, his story was rejected. The supervisor didn't like the red nose because he associated red noses with drinking and drunkards.

Most people would have acquiesced and given their boss whatever they wanted, because it was the Great Depression and Bob had little energy left to fight. However, Bob was no stranger to adversity. Instead of acquiescing to the man controlling his only source of income, Bob pushed back. This wasn't just a red nosed reindeer. This was the precious creation that he shared with his daughter and his dying wife. This story was the thing that brought them comfort during the most difficult moment in their lives. He would not let it go.

Bob brought in an illustrator to depict an innocent red nosed reindeer that would appeal to children and parents alike in order to show the Wards catalog supervisor the merit of Bob's vision. With that illustration and a good amount of spine, Bob convinced the supervisor to go with "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and Bob was paid for his book.

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" was an astonishingly huge success. Wards ended up distributing more than six million copies of the Rudolph book.

But that is not where the story ends...

A major publisher wanted to purchase the rights from Wards to print a new version of the book. Wards held the copyright, because they already paid Bob to write it, so Bob would receive no royalties. Bob's wife had died by then and Bob was left with nothing but a mountain of medical expense debt and his daughter to take care of.

In an unprecedented gesture of kindness, the president of Wards gave all the rights back to Bob May, so he could benefit from his own creation. The book became a best seller.

Many merchandising deals followed and Bob became wealthy, all from a little story he created in the crucible of his darkest hour to comfort his grieving daughter.

But there's more...

Bob's brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, made a song adaptation to Rudolph.

The song was turned down again and again, but after not giving up, Gene Autry recorded "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and it was released in 1949 to become a phenomenal success, selling more records than any other Christmas song, with the exception of "White Christmas."

The simple gift of love Bob May created to comfort his daughter years ago kept on returning back to bless him and his family over and over.

"Love is a living energy that when released into the world goes on and on forever blessing everyone it reaches."

Bob experienced the truth of that statement, just like we all can. Remember, your darkest hour may be the moment you make your greatest contribution, for then you are in the crucible where miracles are born.

See a quick video showing the deeper message of Rudolph that Bob left for all the other "misfits" out there. Watch the video here: http://www.Wayseers.com/Rudolph

Merry Christmas,
Garret

P.S. Variations of this story have been circulating around the Internet without all the facts straight. So I did some research and made sure this version is a true story...

OK, So Rudolf makes the ninth reindeer, and that leaves Dasher free to haul the wild weasle, ECM stealth package. He's at least a half hour ahead of the main column.

You folks watching the NORAD tracking of the sleigh, ought to know better, those guys are guessing, nobody knows where in hell Santa is, and they can't get within 500 km of Dasher, tricky bastard!

As for Rudolf and his mates, Mr. Mosseburg and I are ready!

DailyOM: Healing Past Hurt

DailyOM - Our Evolving Language
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

December 21, 2011
Healing Past Hurt
Our Evolving Language
We can create positive change by choosing not to use these words and phrases as we come across them in our vocabulary.

There are many troubling phrases in our language that we use without considering their full meaning simply because they have been accepted into common knowledge. Even as our ideals progress, our language maintains some phrases from our past that no longer serve us, for example: Boys don't cry; good child; boys will be boys; problem child; illegitimate child; and many more. While these phrases may be used without harmful intent, they are inherently negative. Children can be especially sensitive to such phrases, which may stay with them their whole lives, adversely affecting their self-image and wounding their self-esteem. We can create positive change by choosing not to use these words and phrases as we come across them in our vocabulary.

It is challenging to examine our habits in terms of the words we use to express ourselves, but it is also exciting. Language is an area where we can exercise our free will, creating positive change in the world around us by simply choosing carefully the words we use. It may seem like a small thing, but our words have a rippling effect, like a stone thrown in a pond. People naturally pick up on the way other people speak, consciously or unconsciously changing the way they speak in response. We don't need to actively try to influence people; it happens without our even thinking about it. All we have to do is choose to be more conscious ourselves, putting to rest words and phrases that are outmoded, insensitive, or harmful. We can also exercise our creativity by creating new phrases that carry positive and loving energy to replace the old ones.

You may already have some ideas about phrases you'd like to transition out of your language, and now that you're thinking about it you may come across many more. As you consciously decide not to use these phrases, you may feel lighter and more joyful, knowing that you have chosen to drop baggage that was handed down to you from a less conscious time. As you do so, you elevate the language for future generations who would no doubt thank you if they could.

New Moon 1.06pm, Capricorn

Good time to spells for:

beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action.
During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity.
Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead.
New Moon workings can be done from the day of the new moon to three-and-a-half days after.
The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting.

The beginning of a new cycle. The first phase of moon's orbit around the earth....it is between the sun and the
earth so from the earth they rise and set together...thus we cannot see the reflection as it faces the sun..at the 12 o'clock position..
This time is used for personal growth or a time for healing....also a time to consecrate new tools.....to be used in upcoming ceremonies

Spell for Christmas Eve

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Dec 24, 2011 10:17 pm (PST)

Spell for Christmas Eve

For many of us,
the holidays seem at odds with an otherwise meditative and quiet time of year. This spell serves as a special gift to yourself. Start by asking
yourself what it is you want now. Carve out a piece of time on this day
for your spell. Decorate your altar with greenery, a cauldron, and any
0ther decorations that are meaningful to you. Place your gift to
yourself inside the cauldron. Or, if it won't fit in the cauldron, write its name on a piece of paper. Burn a new red candle dressed with
bayberry oil. Focus on the flame and feel the magic vibrating around
you. Feel your power coming up from your solar plexus. You can make
yourself happy and at peace if you only give yourself the gift. Merry
Christmas!

Today's Goddess: HERTHA Christmas/Yule (Various Locations)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Dec 24, 2011 10:17 pm (PST)

Today's Goddess: HERTHA
Christmas/Yule (Various Locations)

Themes: Rebirth; Kinship; Health; Longevity; Tradition
Symbols: Dormant Trees; Snow

About Hertha: In ancient times, on this day people venerated Hertha, the Teutonic goddess of fertility, domesticated
animals, magic and nature. In Germanic tradition, Hertha descended through the smoke of any fire today and brought
gifts, much like an early Santa Claus figure (giving her solar associations, too). Her connection to nature has survived
in the name for our planet: earth.

To Do Today: Yule takes its designation from a Gaelic word meaning "wheel," representing the turning of time's wheel
back toward the sun. In early times, this festival included parties for various sun gods and goddesses, it eventually was
translated into the celebration of Christ's birth. Any light source or burning incense can symbolize Hertha's presence today.
Beside this, look into the world's traditions for magickal ways of making your celebration special. For example, Swedes eat
rice pudding with one lucky almond; whoever gets the nut receives good fortune. Russians toss grain into people's home for
providence as they carol. Armenians make a wish on the Yule log when it's lighted and sometimes make divinations by the
cinder patterns made afterward. Bohemians cut apples in half. If there's a perfect star in the center and it has plump seeds,
it portends joy and good health. Finally, kiss someone under the mistletoe for a long, happy relationship.

Hail, Lovely Sun

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Dec 24, 2011 10:19 pm (PST)

Hail, lovely sun! Praise for you rising!
Praise for your dawning! Yesterday
we shivered in darkness while
you were trapped in the mountains.
Now you rise light as a silver bird.
Always rise like this, goddess,
always come back to us like this,
bringing us health and safety,
bringing the game to our arrows,
the fish to our fishhooks. Journey
now in peace, go around the earth
in safety, travel in joy. O goddess!
~Finnish Kalevala

The story of the sun goddess who retreats from us during the winter, only to return again after the solstice passes,
appears in many cultures. In Finland, the sun was stolen from her place in the sky by the witch of winter, fierce Louhi.
She in turn had to be tricked by a heroic smith and his companion, a great poet, into giving the sun maiden up so that
the world could be saved from darkness and cold.

When the sun rose again after her captivity, the poet Vainomenen sang the above song to her. It captures the relief we all feel
as we begin to see the light increase after the solstice, however small the increments at the beginning. Within a month, the
growth in light will be noticeable. For now, it is enough to  know we are on our way out of the darkness
