Â
Caristia/Cara Cognatio -From the Roman word, cara, meaning dear, this was a day of family reunions after the solemnity of the Parentalia. Now that the ancestors had been honored, the living were acknowledged with feast and gifts. It was ruled by Concordia, the goddess of peace, depicted with a cornucopia in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
"Sweet it is, no doubt, to recall our thoughts to the living after they have dwelt upon the grave and on the dear ones departed from us; sweet, too, after so many departed, to look upon those of our blood who are left, and to count kin with them," wrote Ovid about this festival.
Â
Concordia - The Roman festival of Charista, Caristia, or Cara Cognatio (from the word cara âdearâ kinsfolk) is a feast of favor and good will in honor of the goddess Concordia. Disputes between family and friends are settled today and presents were given with the intent of reconciling friends and relations. Near relations come to honor the familial deities, the Lares, with offerings of incense and food. This holiday also serves to strengthen family bonds. After so many days of honoring the dead, the celebrants rejoice in the living.Â
Â
"Sweet it is, no doubt, to recall our thoughts to the living after they have dwelt upon the grave and on the dear ones departed from us; sweet, too, after so many departed, to look upon those of our blood who are left, and to count kin with them," wrote Ovid about this festival.
 .
Church of St Peter - To replace the pagan festivals of the Concordia, the Church made this day the feast of St Peter's Chair, celebrating his role as teacher and feeder of that flock of sheep, the faithful. However in 567, at the second Council of Tours, people were still "offering mashed food to the dead."Â Many early blooming plants are named after Peter including the cowslip in England which may be called Peterwort, and daffodils in Wales which are called Peter's leeks.
There are also many legends about ice on St Peter's Day. The Germans say that if water is frozen on this day it will not melt for a fortnight. The Norwegians extend this to 60 days. The Norwegians also say that St Peter threw hot rocks at the ice to melt it, or that if there is no ice on this day, he will make it (see also St Matthias Feb 24). It is also believed that the weather on this day will last four weeks, or forty days, or all of spring. However, if there is sun enough to saddle a horse, or moisture on a roof sufficient to slake a hen's thirst, then there will be a good harvest.
Â
Feast of Old Greek Deities Aphrodite and Eros - Day to honor love and passion.
Â
Navaho: FEAST OF HASTSELTSI, the Red God, God of Racing.
Â
Smaragdie - The finding of The Emerald Tablet, the original alchemical texts of Hermes Trismegistus, discovered by Sara in Hermesâ tomb at Hebron, albeit previously found by Alexander the Great. The tablet, known as the Tabula Smaragdina, was inscribed with thirteen most sapient lines in Phoenician, including the famous âAs above, so below â¦â.
Â
Sybil Leek (1923-1983) was born today. Sybil Leek was an English Witch, a gifted psychic, astrologer, and prolific author who wrote more than 60 books on such subjects as Astrology, Numerology and Reincarnation. She was born with a witchâs mark and claimed to be a hereditary witch of Irish and Russian Descent. Her entire family was involved in astrology and some of the guests who visited her childhood home included H.G. Wells, Lawrence of Arabia and Aleister Crowley.

Today's Goddess: BINAH Brotherhood Day (United States)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Today's Goddess: BINAH
Brotherhood Day (United States)
Themes: Peace; Cooperation; Communication; Unity; Spirituality
Symbols: Bees; Lilies; Lead
About Binah: In Cabalistic tradition, Binah embodies spiritual discernment, love,
stability, and awareness. As the third sephirah of the Tree of Life,
Binah becomes a divine mother, guiding her children toward attainment
and comprehension. Her name literally translates as "the understanding'
which gives form and function to all other aspects of life. Bees are
sacred to her (as divine messengers), as are lilies (white in purity),
and lead (which gives us a foothold in reality).
To Do Today: Binah's energy was present in 1934 when Brotherhood Day began to bring
people of diverse faiths together in an atmosphere of tolerance and
respect. The thrust of the day is universal brotherhood, accenting our
likenesses instead of our differences. So, take time today to learn more about other faiths and foster an open exchange of ideas. Perhaps visit a church or temple and observe quietly, seeing that the Goddess is there, too.
To promote strong
spiritual roots in your own life, as well as the understanding to
nurture those roots, try this spell: Take a piece of lead (maybe from a
pencil) and hold it in your dominant hand, saying:
Binah, walk with me; understanding impart. Every day be part of my heart.
Write this down and put the incantation in your shoe so that Binah will walk with you wherever you may be.

Herbal Bathing
By Kami McBride
Herbal bathing is a
great way to relax, heal and support healthy skin function. The skin is the largest organ in the body.
It contributes to many important
functions such as secretion, absorption, excretion, temperature
regulation, immune function,
and sensory reception. The skin has
receptor sites that transfer information through the nervous system to
the spinal cord and brain.
It not only provides a boundary between us
and the rest of the world, but because of its millions of receptor
sites, is a major player in
how we perceive, experience, and interact
with the world.
The skin is also a
major organ of elimination just like our lungs, kidneys and colon. It
plays a key role in helping our body to
eliminate toxins, heavy metals,
and carcinogenic substances. Herbs have many healing benefits for the
skin and there are many
simple herbal bathing treatments that can help
our skin do its job of keeping us healthy.

Song of Akkadian Princess Enheduanna to Goddess Inanna
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Tue Feb 21, 2012 8:22 pm (PST)
The desert wind lends you wings
to fly across the land.
You fly across the land
bearing the decrees of heaven.
We all bow to you, trembling,
fearful of your stormy radiance.
We all bow to you,
knowing you are the epitome of justice.
Bowing to you,
we weep inlamentation at our wrongdoing.
Sighing great sighs,
we walk around your shrine and pray,
Sighing great sighs,
we attempt to follow your precise path.
~Song of Akkadian Princess Enheduanna to Goddess Inanna
We are all part of the universe, all children of the Goddess. So how can we possibly do wrong?
Is not every imaginable action part of the universe and therefore somehow just?
It is not
as simple as that, for some actions unite us more fully to the cosmos
while others seperate us from it. All people who have ever existed have
made similar distinctions between right and wrong, good and evil. The
Goddess, like any good mother, assists her children in choosing right
and punishes them when they do not. She can be wrathful when we fail to
satisfy her, the ancient prayers tell us. When we pull away from her in
our hearts, when we choose to live without attending to her laws, she
will correct us. To be a true follower of the Goddess means to seek
constantly to live in congruence with her inner laws.
