Today's Goddess: OBA Ku-ornboko (Zambia)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:13 pm (PST)

Today's Goddess: OBA
Ku-ornboko (Zambia)

Themes: Protection; Manifestation; Movement; Energy; Restoration; Flexibility
Symbols: Water

About Oba: Oba is the
Nigerian and Santarian Goddess of Rivers, which figuratively represent
the flow of time and life. Turn to her for assistance in learning how to "go with the flow?' or when you need to inspire some movement in
sluggish projects or goals.

To Do Today: This holiday's
name literally translates as "getting out of the water." Due to the
annual flood cycle, people must make their way to higher ground around
this date. So consider what type of figurative hot water you've gotten
into lately. Oba stands ready to get you onto safer footing. To
encourage her aid, take a glass half filled with hot water, then slowly
pour in cold water up to the rim, saying:

By Oba's coursing water, let ___ improve, to higher and safer ground, my spirit move.
Drink the water to internalize the energy.

Oba can abide in any body of flowing water, including your tap or shower. When you get washed up or do the dishes today,
invoke her energy by uttering this chant (mentally or verbally):

Oba, flow-blessings bestow.
Pour, pour, pour . . restore, restore, restore

Let Oba's spiritual waters refresh your energy and your magic

Getaway Spell

Getaway Spell
.
Today is the
perfect day to pretend you are somewhere else. If you are in the middle
of a cold harsh winter, it is time to pretend you are in the tropics. If you are in a warm, sultry place, it’s time to pretend to be in the
snow. Decorate one room of your home in your chosen motif. Brightly
colored fabrics can suggest the tropics; a fleece throw and some
chenille cushions suggest a ski lodge. Consume pina coladas and
quesadillas for your tropical day, or have a hot toddy  and a roast
for a wintry meal. Play salsa or Scandinavian music. Dance around the
room. Sit in a corner and read a book. Do what you want to doâ€"whatever
comes to mindâ€"and imagine you are in the place of your choice. Today is
your one-day vacation from the dull, dry routine of your ordinary life. ~Cerridwen Iris Shea

Sweet Hair Spray Formula

Sweet Hair Spray Formula

Our hair can suffer from end-of-winter blahs just like us, feeling limp,
lifeless, and squashed from hiding out under a hat.
What to do? Most commercial hair sprays are nasty, but we need some
shape and hold for our static-ridden, winter-weary tresses.

Well, here's some great news! This easy to make formula really gives
body and shape to flat or flyaway hair. You'll be totally surprised by
the main ingredient: who knew? But it works. Sweet!

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup hot purified water
1 tablespoon vodka (optional)
3-5 drops essential oil of your choice (optional)

To Make:
Dissolve the sugar in the hot water. Stir thoroughly to dissolve, then
add the vodka and essential oil. Any leftovers should be stored in a
cool, dry place and used within one week.

To Use:
For setting and molding: Work this solution through damp hair for firm
hold.
As a hair spray: Put the liquid in a bottle with a meriting mechanism or
in an atomizer. You will have to rinse the nozzle under hot water after
each use to avoid clogs. Lightly mist your hair. When used on dry hair,
this spray can be wet. Don't run your fingers or a brush through your
hair until the sugar solution dries.

To Thicken: Dissolve the 1 tablespoon of sugar in 6 tablespoons of hot
water for a solution with more thickening power. Punkers, take note: you
can sculpt your hair into amazing shapes if you use enough sugar in this
formula!

Yield: 5-10 applications, depending on type of usage.

Prayer of Initiates Into The Greek Mysteries

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

I am one of those who serve the Goddess.
Here is my proof:
I have eaten from her drum.
I have drunk from her cymbal.
I have carried her sacred objects.
I have prayed in her secret chamber.
~Prayer of Initiates Into The Greek Mysteries

In ancient Greece, this was the day when the Lesser Eleusinian Mysteries were
celebrated, a preparatory rite for the great secret rituals in the fall
when the Mother Goddess Demeter and her daughter Persephone would be
hailed by their faithful worshippers. Although perhaps a million people
were initiated into the mysteries over a thousand years, no one ever
revealed what happened in those secret chambers. What prayers we have,
like this one, are from the public rituals that preceded and followed
the mysteries.
Perhaps no one ever told the secret because it was inexpressible. True mystical knowledge defies expression. Poets try, but the union of self with
cosmos cannot be truly captured in mere words. The silence of the
centuries tells us as much as a written script might about the mystery
of life and death. The Goddess reigns over them both. She is both our
speech and our silence.
