Re: Jack/Advise on having been discovered as a pagan

I feel ya.  On discovering that I seriously practice witchcraft and am pagan, my brother insists that I am an atheist and that I need psychological help.  I live with my mother because she has become too old to do a lot of things for herself.  I've never blatantly said I'M A WITCH to either of them (my brother found out by reading my facebook), Mother suspects but says nothing.  Basically I do what I do out of sight of her, as for my brother he can go butt a stump.  If I'm nuts because of my beliefs I'm in good company, paganism is one of the fastest growing spiritual paths to date.

My advise, don't get in your mother's face, just do what you need to do in silence and when you can get your own place, do so and live your life.

Subject: [Earthwise] Advise on having been discovered as a pagan

I am a 22 year old male pagan with very high functioning asperger's syndrome, who still lives at home. My mother recently found out that I am pagan, and insist that paganism is of the devil. She is a devout Methodist, and wants me to explore and fallow Christianity. Mainstream Christianity though does not register with me, and the more I explore it, the more I grow to dislike it.
I don't like many of the beliefs of Christianity including how one has to accept Jesus for salvation, or how the sacred feminine is absent. For me in my exploration of paganism and alternate spiritual paths, I feel a spiritual connection with Tantra, Druidism, Vanatru, and Wicca. My mother worries that I am going into my imagination when things get difficult, and I am isolating myself. I feel that I am not, and if I could there are pagan religious groups I could join in my area.
I am waiting till I move out on my own, before more fully exploring a pagan lifestyle, and am working towards my independence. But in the meanwhile I don't know how to explore, and hold on to my spiritual beliefs, when my mother is so bent on me becoming Christian and insisting that if I fallow Wicca or Druidism that I will be tempted by the devil.
I want to honor my mother, but also form my own identity. I am also admittedly lonely, and would like to join the larger pagan community if I could.
Does anyone have any suggestions of what I should do?

Thanks
I think that I will do as you suggest, and be secretive about my worship. Then when I can move out on my own, I will have much more freedom to come out of the broom closet.

Tell your mother there is no devil in paganism. It is a Christian invention.
