Re: How many years have you been a practicing

How many years have you been a practicing witch, wiccan, druid, occultist,
pagan or other?

I have been practicing for better than 15 years. I initiated 15 years ago.
I am a Solitary Eclectic Witch and pull in traditions that appeal to me and
mesh well with what I already do.

If you like to take this time and share your experiences to help others
that are starting out this would be great and fun!

I was initiated by a Crone Solitary Witch. We went camping and did a
wonderful ceremony at midnight of the full moon. We drank flower petal tea
and had an absolutely great time. I have lost track of her in the last few
years and wonder how she is doing. She was very helpful in my growth as all
I had up to that point was book learning. I have since joined in a few
coven and group rituals, but am content as a Solitary.

How did you start and where has it taken you today?

I started out learning about Natural Health. I am an herbalist and an
Iridologist. It was a simple move for me to begin studying WitchCraft. I
began with a study of Silver Ravenwolfe style Wiccan. It didn't take me
long to leave Wicca behind and embrace Witchery.

How do you see yourself 10 yrs from now?

I am always learning and teaching. I hope to continue learning and teaching
to my day to pass on. I am writing a book that is very slow going, but I
hope to be published by the time the next decade rolls in.

I look so forward to reading other's answers to these questions.

Well, I have mentioned this before but maybe there are those that weren't on the last time.

I got involved with Paganism in 1971. It was a couple of years later that I was initiated into a Witchcraft Coven.

I began by reading "Stranger In A Strange Land," by Robert Heinlein. I found out that there was a group that was started using the book. This is the Church of All Worlds. I went to one meeting, met Oberon (Tim back then), and got a lot of information on Paganism and a lot of the writings of Tim's. I was hooked from day one, and still am involved. I was ordaine a Pagan Priest of the Church of All Worlds, in 1973.

Around 1973, I was contacted by Deryk Aldritt, a Witch from England. He was local and invited me to join with him. My wife at that time, and a couple of other friends and I met with him and became a part of his Coven. Our Mother Coven worships at the Rollright stones and is an English Trad. Coven. I am still a part of the Craft but being in a wheelchair, I don't do any rituals any more. (Wheelchairs and altar cloths don't get along!)

I still teach classes in Paganism, the Craft and related subjects such as Astrology and more.

I cannot go back to where I was before. I have seen too much, learned too much to ever go back to a place of ignorance.

Now, "How do you see yourself 10 yrs from now?" I will, in all probability, be dead. Through Paganism, I have gained oceans of knowledge and wisdom, I have been living my life to the fullest ever since. I have five great kids that gave me 11 grand kids and 2 great grand kids. I have been married and divorced twice but I am good friend with both ex-spouses. Friends, due to my learned Pagan ideals.

I'm not ready to go yet, but I am not afraid of death. If I needed any bolstering about death, I honor my old friend from Tennessee, Gray Cat, who has only months left to live, and is living her life to the fullest even knowing that the end is near.

So any comments, any questions are welcome here on this site, or by personal e-mail. I am an open book.

B*B, and Never Thirst, Don

The Kingdom of Lurkdom....Come on our and Chat!

Mon Mar 12, 2012 7:13 pm (PDT)

The Kingdom of Lurkdom....Come on our and Chat!

Just sending a lil Hello to people we haven't heard from, stop in and let us know how things are going!

Light and Laughter!

You haven't been LURKING in this group have you? OH DEAR!! Haven't you ever wondered why lurkers are seldom heard from again after they have been
removed from a group for non-participation? I tell ya, the truth can be a scary SCARY thing!! Don't let this happen to you!€ ¦  Read on to discover
the horrors and dangers of being a lurker!

Susan was found to be lurking in a group, she hadn't shared a thingfor months and disregarded the notices from the group mods & owners.€ ¦
After she was removed from the group... the very same afternoon...she
was walking down the sidewalk when her panties got in a bunch.€ ¦  As she
struggled to free herself from the merciless wedgy she was enduring, the elastic waistband snapped causing her skivvies to fall down around her
ankles! She wobbled a couple of steps and tripped over her underpants
and fell face first into a fresh pile of elephant poo left behind from a passing traveling circus! The elephant poo acted like an oil slick
sending Susan skidding out of control with her drawers flailing around
her ankles until she plopped down an open manhole cover and was flushed
out to sea never to be heard from again!

Ron was once a lurker too. He was a mild mannered midget from New Guinea. He too ignored the notices of participation from the group owners & mods. After being booted from the group, he mysteriously went missing for years! Three years later, his shrunken head was found on a bobble head figurine at a trinket shop near the Mexican border! His head was then returned to his family with 20 Pasos and abottle of Jose Cuarvo!

John was also a lurker who ignored the owners and mods. One day on his walk
home from a long night at his job as the local bingo caller, he was
assaulted by a troupe of angry nuns! They pelted him with bingo chips
until he learned to share stats and email jokes withothers online. To
this day, John still has a nervous twitch and freaks out every time he
hears an old woman shout "BINGO!" causing him to fall to the floor and
cower in the fetal position under his desk! His therapist also states he has an unusual phobia to penguins
now as a result!

Fred too befell a similar fate as the rest for lurking in groups. He had belonged to a fantasy group but had not shared a thing withanyone in weeks and frequently neglected to answer his emails. After he was
unsubbed from the group, he was sitting at his kitchen table grumbling
to himself over a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal. When suddenly his
underpants were invaded and overtaken by leprechauns!€ ¦  The clever little gnomes magically made off with his "family jewels" and Fred then spent
the rest of his days chasing rainbows in the hopes of one day recovering his long lost "Mr. Winky & the boys". He eventually went insane
from an incurable case of phantom jock itch!

Lastly, there is the story of Claudia. A simple and quiet secretary from Idaho who was very much concerned with her appearance. She could often be found sitting in front of her web cam using it to watch herself apply mascara and lip stick instead of snagging and sharing like a good group member ought to. After she found herself banned from her favorite group for neglecting to participate shebecame terribly distraught and developed severe abdominal pains! She was
diagnosed with acute appendicitis and was rushed to a local hospital.
Unfortunately the doctor's handwriting was so poor that the surgeon
misread it and instead of removing her appendix, he formed a large penis on her face in place of her nose! She can now be found working as the
aardvark woman in a popular freak show in Albania! We won't even discuss what happens when she sneezes!

DON'T LET TRAGEDIES SUCH AS THIS BEFALL YOU!!!€ ¦

PARTICIPATE IN YOUR GROUPS!

SHARE SHARE SHARE! I BEG YOU!

What's Happening Today:

Leprechaun Day is celebrated on May 13. It's a day dedicated to the elves of Ireland. Catch a Leprechaun, or at least read about one.

Songkran - The New Year began in mid-April in the ancient Buddhist calendar. In Thailand, Buddhists celebrate their New Year between April 13 and April 14. Water is an important element of the festival. Statues of the Buddha are bathed in water and people throw water at each other until everyone is soaking wet. There are boat races, parades, plays, concerts and fireworks. Women add gold leaf to a statue of the Buddha as an offering. [Rosen]

In the morning, young people wash their parents' hands in scented water. Then everyone goes to the temple, where statues of the Buddha are washed with flower-water, a ritual which is also repeated in each home. Young girls purchase small live fish and take them to the river to set them free. The same is done with songbirds. Along the river banks, people build pyramids of sand into which they stick tiny colored flags. The newest accoutrements to the festival include Miss Songkran beauty pageants and gifts of towels (to sop up all the water). [Rufus] Rosen, Mike, Spring Festivals, Bookwright Press 1991Rufus, Anneli, The World Holiday Book, Harper San Francisco 1994
Thailand: Annual three day Buddhist festival of water is observed. Statues of Buddha are bathed and the water then thrown on the faithful to purify and cleanse away evil spirits from the previous year.

€ ¦
About Tou Mou:€ ¦  The
Chinese/Thai Goddess of record keeping takes special notice of our
actions (or inactions) today, keeping careful notes for the karmic bank
account.€ ¦  In works of art, Tou Mou is depicted sitting behind books and
glowing with the beautiful light of the aurora.€ ¦  It is this brightness
that shines on our lives today, revealing both the good and the bad.€ ¦
Suitable offerings for this goddess include rice, fruit, and all acts of goodness.

To Do Today:€ ¦  In
Thailand, this water festival begins with tossing water down the street
to chase away evil influences.€ ¦  I suggest using your driveway instead,
or a glass of water on the kitchen floor that is judiciously mopped up
later.€ ¦
€ ¦
People in Thailand
traditionally wash their parents' hands with scented water today to
bring them honor and long life.€ ¦  So, remember your elders today, and do
something nice for them--it's good karma, and it definitely catches Tou
Mou's attention.€ ¦  Another activity extends good deeds to the natural
world--that of freeing songbirds, who then bear their liberator's
prayers directly to Tou Mou's ear.€ ¦  You might want to simply scatter
some birdseed instead for similar results.

Finally, it might be a
good day to balance your checkbook to make sure your financial karma
stays in good standing.€ ¦  Burn a green candle nearby for prosperity.

Ovid, Metamorphoses

She is the Goddess of Power:
earth's mothering power,
soil's nurturing power,
grain's sustaining power.
We see her in the stars,
taming dragons and riding
them, bits between their teeth.
We see her on earth too:
giving seeds to string farmers
and princes, commanding them
to sow not only the fertile soil,
but raw earth too, which bears
exactly as she tells it too.
~Ovid, Metamorphoses
€ ¦
This is
the day the Romans dedicated to Ceres, Goddess of Grain. As spring moves toward summer, seeds must be planted to assure a full granary for the
nest winter. It is easy to plant when the storehouses are low, when it
is clear that starvation will occur if action is not taken. But it is
less easy to prepare for the future when things do not seem difficult at present. Yet the happiest of lives can be interrupted by tragedy. It is important, therefore, to always be sowing seeds for a new harvest. Take nothing for granted; the best job, the perfect spouse, the ideal home,
all can vanish overnight. Do no let this make your days gloomy. But use
your springtime energy to seed your fields for a needed harvest in the
future.€ ¦  )0(

How I became a Witch is very simple, there was a witch who made me so. There might be folks on this list who feel moe strongly about their fellow craft than they do about their natural family. It's been long enough that you can find true famtrads, 2nd 3rd or nth generation neo-pagans. Doubtless, our feelings for the Craft and the dear friends we meet here becomes the greater aspect of our lives. So it is we people who have shared extraordinary circumstances. It is and ought to be an environment where we might say or do as we wouldn't in public. Even as the public becomes more accepting, we become more like a conventional family or tribe, often publically disagreing, or fussing amoung ourselves as to what is truly pagan. Sometimes even we neglect great Pan, as if leaving him for dead. In the end, we find we love each other, as relatives often do.
Today, I believe in magic as much as ever. I should like to see a community emerge, bound together in love and understanding, and free of distemper. I try to avoid too much ritual glamor but to live in fraturnaty with my fellows and with Nature. I live a mostly conventional life, with a mostly conventional family. In this, 10 years you speak of, I hope to see the children will have become indepenant of me. Masters of their own lives, and thoughts, they would carry the best of the tradition forward.
