Camping and Overnight Accommodations
Again this year, we are going to let people camp wherever they want - in the field, forest or in-between. The pottapotties, showers, potable water, meals and concerts will all still be down near the house so if you camp in the woods, plan to get your hiking in. There will be designated fire pits. Do not make new ones. This time of year is typically dry but rainstorms have been known to happen, so we strongly recommend you bring a tarp or ground cloth to put under your tent.
Parking space is limited, so no campers or RV's, please.
There are a limited number of B&B's and inns in Bethel and nearby towns. Please contact Laurelin staff if you would like further information.
Toilets, Showers, and Water
Port-a-potties will be available on-site. There is an outdoor shower with hot water. There is an outdoor sink for washing dishes and drinking water. All of these are down near the main house.
Meal Plan
We will again be offering our delicious meal plan - with both carnivore and vegetarian options. It includes: breakfast, lunch and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and brunch on Sunday (10 meals).
The plan can be bought either for the whole festival, Friday through Sunday, or just Saturday and Sunday. If you are signing up for the meal plan, we need your registration NO LATER than July 15th.
Please also let us know right away if you have any special dietary needs/ allergies.
Village Builders
This year we will be having a special day for those people who would like to come together as a smaller group to share, connect and participate in the creation of our magickal village. In ritual and with magickal intent, we will break into teams each dedicated to creating and maintaining one aspect of our magickal community - some hard physical labor, and others less so. Arrival is by Noon on Tuesday, July 31st. There is no cost for coming to Village Builders however the meal plan will be offered (dinner on Tuesday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Wednesday). Cost for the Builders meal plan is an additional $28.00.
Workshops, Rituals, and Activities
If you have an idea for a workshop, ritual, discussion, performance, or children's activity - we'd LOVE to hear about it! Don't be shy - we're open to any and all ideas. Help us make Lughnasadh an exciting, rich and fun-filled experience that will keep everyone coming back year after year (and bringing more friends too!). Send your proposals via email to: laurelin@sover.net before July 1st. (Sooner is better!) You will be notified by July 8th whether or not it is accepted.
Pets/ Dogs
Dogs are welcome this year at the festival. However, you MUST provide proof of rabies vaccination or your dog will not be permitted. Further, all dogs must be kept on-leash at all times in the fields or around the house. They are free to run loose in the wooded areas. You are expected to pick up and dispose of any waste left in areas where people will be walking, camping, etc.
Your pet must be calm, non-disruptive, and under your control (on leash or off) at all times. If it fights with other animals, is disruptive by barking or other behaviors, is threatening or causes damage to the site or its other occupants, or not under your control at all times you will be required to take the pet off-site with no refund.

Today's Goddess: SHEELAH-NA-GIG Sheelah's Day (Ireland)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Sat Mar 17, 2012 8:35 pm (PDT)
Today's Goddess: SHEELAH-NA-GIG
Sheelah's
Day (Ireland)
Themes: Fertility;
Sexuality; Protection; Passion; Femininity
Symbols: Nakedness;
Lust-inspiring Scents; Whiskey
About Sheelah-Na-Gig: The image of this Irish goddess of fertility tells us much
about the unbridled nature of feminine passion that Sheelah inspires with
springlike whimsey. She is shown smiling broadly, holding her legs wide open,
completely naked. Nonetheless, this is not irresponsible lust; it is the gate
of life through which we all pass. Interestingly enough, Sheelah's image, in an
amulet, offers protection, too - perhaps she was the first goddess of safe sex?
To Do Today:Sheelah's Day is celebrated in true Irish fashion by
drinking abundant whiskey and drowning a shamrock in the last glass consumed,
to end the festivities. This particular custom denotes the idea of consuming
one's luck, increasing fecundity, and internalizing the goddess's protective
energies before the day is over. So if you can tolerate whiskey, toast Sheelah,
take a sip, and warm up your passion! Otherwise, offer her a libation of
whiskey, asking for her energy to be likewise liberated in your body.
If you have a
significant other, one of the best ways to honor Sheelah is through passionate
encounters that are balanced with wisdom and foresight. Take a condom and bless
it, saying:
Sheelah, my hunger
see. let my body love freely.
But keep us safe,
fertility bind,
no matter our haste,
keep protection in mind.
Carry this condom with
you to your tryst.

Celebration of the Mother Goddesses
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Celebration of the Mother Goddesses
Have on your altar a
red candle for each woman doing the ritual. Dress the candles with Rose,
Aphrodite, or Yemaya oil if you have any of these.
Burn an incense that
has a spicy or floral scent. If you have a white altar cloth, that would
be good to use so everything will show up clearly. If you
have any red or pink
flowers, or carnations that are white and red, that would be excellent to have
on the altar. Any statues that you have of the Mother
Goddesses and Love
Goddesses will be good. Also, since Yemaya the Ocean Mother is a summer
goddess, a statue of her or a mermaid could be added. If
you do not have
statues, you could draw pictures or make a collage of pictures of mothers,
and/or sensual women. To be in a room that feels sensual and
feminine that you can
decorate, would add to the ambience.
Cast your Circle, and
light the red candles. You might want to have tealight candles floating
upon water. Then visualize the fully formed and shaped goddesses
of sexuality and
coming motherhood. Chant this poem three times, and visualize yourself
becoming sensual and 'at one' with your favorite sensual goddess.
"I am the Mother
Goddess,
A sexual being.
My womb is ready for
love,
My children yet to be
born.
My breasts are fuller
than a maiden's
My thighs are much
rounder
But they can shake
with love,
And my belly rumble
with laughter.
I celebrate the warmth
of Summer
And the heat of
lovers' passion.
I am Aphrodite,
burning with love,
I am Pele, the
volcano!
I am Amaterasu, the
Sun Goddess
Lighting the way for
all women;
Burning away the heavy
clothes and chains
That bound us in
a patriarchal prison.
I am the Mother
Goddess,
I am all women.
My loins are always
ready for love,
And you are all my
children."
After chanting this
three times, open the circle. Then each carry your candle outside if
possible, to breathe in the air and look at the moon, knowing that
the Mother Goddess is
with each of you, and inside you.
Then come back inside
and have light 'cakes and ale' to ground yourself after the ritual.

Hilaria
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

And so the goddess
sprinkled a sweet liqueur
over her lover's blood, something magical known
only to her, something sacred and mysterious.
And then the miracle occurred; the blood of Attis
stirred like a fountain in a storm of rain,
and from the pool came
forth a flower, crimson
and the young man's blood, as beautiful as he had been,
and as briefly blossoming. The goddess named it
anemone, after the wind, for spring's winds come
and shake its petals off - too soon, too early,
too brief, like joy, like youth, like love.
~Ovid Metamorphoses
The last part of the
ancient Roman festival was called the Hilaria, for it was a hilarious day of
laughter and joy. It affirmed that life rises out of death, that good times
follow bad. The myth behind the festival is that, faced with the loss of her
lover, the goddess turned his blood into a springtime flower so that he would
always spring forth and remind her of her love for him. He was reborn, reunited
with her, each spring in this way.
In the same way, the
cycles of life bring us good things after periods of difficulty. There is no
life which is perfect, no life which has not endured some loss. We may have
love, but not enough money; we may have family, but no partner; we may have
work, but no love. Like a garden, we find different parts of our life blooming
at different times. The wisdom of our foremothers permitted sharing grief for
what is missing, with the knowledge that even the sharpest grief is ultimately
healed.
