Friday Finds An Idea!
Friday March 16, 2012
9:00 am - 10:00 am
(This event repeats every week.)

Notes:
As we know the goal is to live our lives magically in the moment every day in the now and while it would be nice to go and buy all the cool witchy stuff that is out there...their is so much in every day objects that we can use around the home.
So here is what I suggest...Post up an every day object once a week and let the creative juices flow and post up what we would or could possibly use it for magically.
I thought it would be kinda cool and inspiring...whatcha think..

May Day songs, sending early in case people want to learn them.

Posted by: "Slag" slag310@yahoo.com   slag310

Fri Mar 16, 2012 3:35 pm (PDT)

Here is link for a new page that I have just opened at
http://piereligion.org/mayday2.html
or just piereligion.org/mayday2.html if that link works better.
The May Day Revels 2 page has nice information about the Furry Day Dances, Maypole Dancing, and also The Tree in the Wood Song (sometimes called the Maypole Song), and some other music associated with Maypole dancing. The Furry Day Songs and Dances include the Padstow Horse Song and also the Helston Furry Day dance and Hal-An-Tow. This page gives links to where you can find the notated music, in case you wish to play it on an instrument, and where you can find the complete words if you want to sing it and also links to where you can hear and usually see other people singing the songs or doing the dances, to make it easy to learn them.

This page is part of a group of pages including
http://piereligion.org/mayday.html May Day Revels Part 1,
or piereligion.org/mayday.html which has May Dew Songs, customs for children and Hawthorn tree songs and also
http://piereligion.org/maydaysongs.html May Day Songs,
or piereligion.org/maydaysongs.html which has the songs for the custom of going on luck visits (the most widespread May Day Carols), but without all the puritan stuff added in and I also have redone the
http://piereligion.org/freya.html page for the Goddess Freya, and this has invocations to her in Old Norse, from the old texts.

These last three pages have just been updated with more links to where you can hear the music and they also have complete references. These pages were put together to help people learn the music to celebrate May Day in traditional fashion and hopefully have fun.

None of this information is secret, because I wish to encourage community celebrations, if that is possible and safe for people.

I hope that this will seem useful to you all.

Get Ready for Ostara!

Day 3: Your Ostara Altar and Prayers
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
For many Pagans and Wiccans, the center aspect of ritual is the altar itself. If you're planning an Ostara celebration, you may want to start thinking about what sort of things you'd like to put on your altar. Think seasonally -- and if you don't have any ideas of your own, don't worry, because we have plenty of reader photos to help you get started! Also, we'll talk a little today about prayers, and how they can be applied in an Ostara rite.
Setting Up Your Ostara Altar

It's Ostara, and it's a time of year in which many Wiccans and Pagans choose celebrate the balance of light and dark that heralds the beginning of spring. It's a time to celebrate new life and rebirth -- not only the physical embodiment of renewal, but the spiritual as well. Try some -- or all -- of these ideas to ready your altar for Ostara. Read About Altar Setup

Readers' Ostara Altar Photos

Not sure what you want your altar to look like yet? To get some ideas, and see how other Pagans and Wiccans do it, check out our Altar Photo Gallery! View Altar Photos

Prayers for Ostara

This is a time to celebrate spring, so prayers at Ostara often reflect that change of seasons. Included here are some simple prayers you can offer during your Ostara celebration, honoring the goddesses of spring, the resurrection of the earth, a garden blessing, and even a chant for Pagan kids! See Ostara Prayers

Tomorrow: Ritual and Ceremony

Tomorrow, we'll talk about some rituals and ceremonies you can do for Ostara. Whether you're working with a group, as a solitary, or even with your kids, there are plenty of ways you can celebrate!!

DailyOM: A Matter of Priorities

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Mar 16, 2012 7:10 pm (PDT)

Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

March 16, 2012
A Matter of Priorities
Letting Go of the Little Stuff
When we stop worrying about unimportant matters, we can devote so much more of ourselves to what is truly important.

We experience numerous disappointments each and every day. Our expectations go unmet, our plans are blocked by circumstance, our wishes go unfulfilled, and we discover that our lives are subject to a myriad of forces beyond our conscious control. In some cases, our response is powerful because we must invest ourselves and our resources to overcome genuine hardship. In others, our reactions are far more passionate than our circumstances likely warrant. The tension that permeates our bodies and minds when we are late for an event, interrupted at work, or sitting in traffic is not inappropriate, but it can interfere with our well-being in profound ways. When we stop worrying about relatively unimportant matters, we can be at peace and devote so much more of ourselves to what is truly important.

The small frustrations and irritations wield such power over us because they rob us of the illusion of control. But every problem is a potential teacherâ€"a confusing situation is an opportunity to practice mindfulness, and difficult people provide us with opportunities to display compassion. There is a natural human tendency to invest copious amounts of emotional energy in minor dilemmas and frustrations in order to avoid confronting those more complex issues that are largely outside the realm of our control. The intensity of our response provides us with a temporary sense of personal power that helps us cope with challenges that might otherwise overwhelm us. But it is only when we let the little stuff go that we discover that the big stuff is not really so devastating after all.

In the stress of a singularly tense incident, differentiating between an inconsequential annoyance and a legitimate challenge can seem a monumental task. Ask yourself whether the emotions you are feeling will be as vivid in a year, a day, or even an hour. As focused as you are on this moment in time, your reward for letting go of your emotional investment may be the very happiness and harmony of being whose loss you are lamenting. Needless aggravation is seldom worth the cost it exacts. You cannot distance yourself from life's inconsistencies, irritations, and upheavals, but you can relinquish your desire for perfect order and gain peace of mind in the process.

Shamrocks as Healing Amulets

The shamrock, a three-leaf clover, is well known globally as a lucky charm. The shamrock originates from Ireland where it was first used as a protective amulet. A shamrock was carried whenever a person may be in situation that could possibly bring harm such as battle or traveling far from home. The blarney stone from Ireland is another protective and good luck amulet.

Irish Leprechauns

Elves are human-like in characteristic, but are not little people. Mischievous in nature, elf spirit totems usually show up when you need a jolt to awaken you from a too serious or stern demeanor. You are likely needing to add some play into your life. Santa's elven toy-makers, the shoemaker's helpers, and Irish leprechauns are examples of elf essence portrayed in film and storybooks. Have some fun on St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!!

Goddess of The Day: SHEELAH-NA-GIG Sheelah's Day (Ireland)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Mar 16, 2012 8:25 pm (PDT)

Goddess of The Day: SHEELAH-NA-GIG
Sheelah's Day (Ireland)

Themes: Fertility; Sexuality; Protection; Passion; Femininity
Symbols: Nakedness; Lust-inspiring Scents; Whiskey

About Sheelah-Na-Gig: The image of this Irish goddess of fertility tells us much about the
unbridled nature of feminine passion that Sheelah inspires with
springlike whimsey. She is shown smiling broadly, holding her legs wide
open, completely naked. Nonetheless, this is not irresponsible lust; it
is the gate of life through which we all pass. Interestingly enough,
Sheelah's image, in an amulet, offers protection, too - perhaps she was
the first goddess of safe sex?

To Do Today: Sheelah's Day is celebrated in true Irish fashion by drinking abundant
whiskey and drowning a shamrock in the last glass consumed, to end the
festivities. This particular custom denotes the idea of consuming one's
luck, increasing fecundity, and internalizing the goddess's protective
energies before the day is over. So if you can tolerate whiskey, toast
Sheelah, take a sip, and warm up your passion! Otherwise, offer her a
libation of whiskey, asking for her energy to be likewise liberated in
your body.

If you
have a significant other, one of the best ways to honor Sheelah is
through passionate encounters that are balanced with wisdom and
foresight. Take a condom and bless it, saying:

Sheelah, my hunger see. let my body love freely.
But keep us safe, fertility bind,
no matter our haste, keep protection in mind.
Carry this condom with you to your tryst.

What's Happening Today:

St. Patricks Day
Snakes Day

St. Patrick's Day (March 17)
March 17 is widely accepted as the date of St. Patrick's death in A.D. 461.
The first St. Patrick's Day parade in the United States was held in New York City on this day in 1762.
Cabbage seeds are often planted today, and old-time farmers believed that to make them grow well, you needed to plant them while wearing your nightclothes.

On St. Patrick's Day, the warm side of a rock turns up,
and the broad-back goose begins to lay.

From The Old Farmer's Almanac
.
St. Patrick's Day: Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove all
the snakes out of Ireland. The snake is a pagan symbol and it is
suspected that this is a figurative tale explaining that he
drove paganism out of Ireland. Named Maewyn Succat at his birth
in Britain near the end of the fourth century, he was abducted
and sold into slavery at age 16. He worked as a shepherd in
Ireland and converted to Christianity. He took the name Patrick
(or Patricus) after he fled slavery to became a priest in Gaul
(France) at age 22. After years of serving as a priest and monk
in Gaul, he returned to Ireland at about 60 years of age to
follow his calling: to convert Irish pagans to Christianity.
Through the strength of his personality, he was able to win many
converts. He used the shamrock, a kind of three-leafed clover
common in Ireland, to help explain the concept of the Trinity
(father, son, holy spirit). His missionary work in Ireland
lasted for 30 years until he died on March 17 in 461 AD. The day
has been commemorated as St. Patrick's Day ever since. The first
year St. Patrick's Day was celebrated in the U.S. was 1737 in
Boston, Massachusetts.

Canaan: The annual Festival of Astarte was held this day in
Canaan to honor the honor the Goddess known as Queen of Heaven.

Rome: Date of women's festival of freedom known as the
Liberalia.

Spain: Fallas - Annual festival in Valencia, when giant
sculptures are burnt in bonfires across the region.  The
tradition (according to Christians) is thought to have
originated in ancient times from carpenters burning unwanted
wood at the start of spring. In the Catalan language, fallas
means "fire."

Irish Charm for Protection

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Mar 16, 2012 8:42 pm (PDT)

Irish Charm for Protection
.
Winter has weakened its icy grip, yet March winds howl like the Irish Bean
Sidhe, the wailing woman of the hills. Known commonly as the banshee,
this Celtic death spirit is thought to haunt the fairy hills and knolls, keening her death cry into the wind. Her flowing hair and robes create a formidable image. Hearing her wail portends a death. Make an Irish
charm of protection tonight. Gather a green candle, a plate, a four-leaf clover (or its image), and four drops of rosemary oil. Melt the candle
wax to make a coin-sized puddle on the plate. As it hardens, press in
the clover, add the oil, and shape a charm. As you mold, infuse it with
protection energy, saying:
Love conquers fear.

 ~ Karri Ann Allrich

I too can change my sorrow into something beautiful."

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Mar 16, 2012 8:42 pm (PDT)

The Goddess struck her breasts with her fair hands,
weeping and crying out. Of all the gods, she hated most
the Fates, for they had cut her love's life thread.
"You shall not," she protested, "always have your way,
You shall not be the ones who decide, always, who
shall live and who shall die. I have my own power.
If the queen of the underworld has the power
to change her lost maiden Mentha into a fragrant plant,
I too can change my sorrow into something beautiful."
~Ovid, Metamorphoses

After the
death of her lover Attis, the Goddess went into deep mourning. The
middle part of the great Roman feast reenacted this mourning just as in
even more ancient times women of the eastern Mediterranean had wandered
the streets in spring, weeping and wailing, calling out for lost love.

There is
such great wisdom to be found in such rituals. For as the sap flows anew each year - both in the plants around us and in our own bodies - we
feel most poignantly the grief of loss. We have all lost something, if
only the dreams of our childhood. But public mourning is not welcome in
our world today. The chance to join with our friends to share tears is
denied most women today. Yet to share deeply is to share sadness as well as happiness. As spring moves forward, let yourself experience the
grief, as well as the joy, it brings.
