Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Friday, February 11
The winter herbs and harvests from the woodlands that are most associated with this month can just melt in your mouth and not in your hands since I call them the MandMs of February. While the rest of the world is worrying about which chocolate will make the right impression, we can all feel the love that comes from marjoram and mimosa. And in this month most associated with Cupid, it's good to know that marjoram has long been added to food to strengthen existing relationships as well as to help find a new and true love. Carried with you, marjoram promises personal protection and heightens your attractiveness from a cosmic perspective. Tiny bits placed around the inside of your house will offer an antidote to anything considered ill conceived or evil. In some traditions, both violets and marjoram are blended together to ward off injuries, accidents and colds. I have written many times about the efficacy in using marjoram essential oil to allay depression and to help deal with grief. Inner and outer love come packed into this small but potent herb. And then there's using mimosa to purify a space, simply perfect for this month of February. Scatter it around any area that calls for a clearing or cleansing of old, stale or stuck energies or add it to the bath to guard against worry, stress or fear. You're even advised to put it under your pillow to have prophetic dreams and to make some waking ones come true. Even though this pair may not have been on Noah's Ark, they can still offer smooth sailing through a stormy month. Yes, these two MandM's truly do melt in your mouth, perhaps while they're melting someone else's heart!
Love Each Day,
Lady Nightshayde

How to Make Fairy Dust

How to make Fairy Dust
To draw out the bliss inherent in our nature, create your own "fairy dust." This potion may be used to anoint magical tools, amulets and candles for spelling happiness. It also makes a wonderful gift.
This special celebration of magic requires an extensive list of ingredients including:
-A clear, pink, amethyst, or iridescent glass vial or bottle (Note: Hand-Blown Egyptian bottles are nice for this)
-A small piece of polished rose quartz
-Pieces of mica
-A fresh flower blossom, small enough to fit in the opening of your chosen flask (pixie carnations and sweetheart rose buds are fitting choices, a small lavender bud is tiny, too.)
-Charms of fairy, butterfly, star forms
-Pink or rainbow-hued ribbon (holographic ribbon works nicely)
-Small bells or a chiming sphere
-A quartz or lead crystal point
-A piece of parchment
-Silver and gold ink
-A pink candle
-A small bottle of jojoba for the potion base
-All or any of these oils to blend: Benzoin, Geranium, Jasmine, Neroli and Ylang-Ylang
Listen for the sound of children's laughter as you pursue this quest, it is the most powerful enchantment in all.
During the waxing Moon, light the pink candle and set it to burn. Create a pleasing essential blend from the oils you have selected.
Mix the blend with enough jojoba to fill your chosen vessel.
Don't skimp.
The essence should be strong (using Fragrance Oils may require more of the scented oil base
- Pure Essential Oils are best
- Check out New Moon's apothecary section).
Crumble the mica into fine pieces.
Add them to the jojoba. If you have chosen a clear vial or bottle, you may wish to give it a pale tint of pink.
Tint the jojoba before mixing it with the essential oils.
You may do this with a trace of red food coloring.
Fill the vial with the jojoba, essential blend and mica particles.
On the parchment, trace a circle with silver ink.
Next draw four semi-circles,evenly spaced around, overlapping the first circle at the four cardinal points, to form four crescents, with the ends of the semi-circles pointing away from the centre.
This represents the full moon and her four quarters.
It is recognized as the Icelandic Wishing Rune.
Picture yourself in an enraptured state of bliss, surrounded by flowers.
Your heart feels as light as a butterfly on the wing.
With this feeling, draw in gold ink, the rune, "Wunjo".
It resembles the letter P, with the loop pointed, to form an equilateral triangle against the upright base.
Roll the parchment tightly and seal it with a short tie of ribbon and a drop of pink wax.
Add the following to your potion in this order: the rose quartz, the flower blossom and parchment scroll.
Stopper the bottle and heal it with a generous amount of pink wax.
You want to do this by melting a pool of wax in a container only slightly larger than the top of the bottle.
Invert the bottle and fully immerse the area of the opening in the melted wax.
You will need to work quickly, unless you have a brazier or something to keep it warm. (If you're using a bottle with a stopper, such as the Egyptian style bottles, just drop the wax evenly between the space of the stopper and the bottle.)
Finish by tying with ribbon and fastening the charm(s), the crystal and the bells to the knot or bow.

The Catholic Church Wants to Cure Your Witchiness

The Catholic Church Wants To Cure You of Witchiness
Friday February 4, 2011
For those of you who have been practicing witchcraft and who have been thinking, "Golly, I sure do wish someone would come along and convert me to Christianity," do I have some news for you! The Roman Catholic church has put out a handy guide for its British members, explaining how to convert witches to the One True Way. Or something. Anyway, the guide, entitled, Wicca and Witchcraft: Understanding the Dangers, is apparently in response to the increasing rise in the occult, which we can clearly blame on things like Harry Potter and other pop culture icons.
The booklet also includes helpful instructions on how to evangelize in case you meet a witch, Pagan, or other hell-bound soul when you hop down to the pub for a pint some evening. Damien Thompson, who writes for the UK Telegraph, makes a point of mentioning that the church handbook doesn't make any silly jokes about Wiccans and broomsticks (although Thompson himself has no problems with anti-Pagan snark of his own), and goes into some more detail about the guide, written by one Elizabeth Dodd.
Dodd, who claims to be a former Wiccan who has turned Catholic, says, "The use of magic, the practice of witchcraft, offends God because it is rooted in our sinful and fallen nature. It attempts to usurp God." Interestingly, she makes the points that Catholics should find some common ground with Wiccans -- for example, discussing the environment -- and then use that as a springboard for converting them. She adds that most "Wiccans are on a genuine spiritual quest," but she fails to recognize that many of us are on this path because it's the one that's right for us, not because we're wandering around blindly in the dark, waiting for someone to turn on a light.

Emotional Vampires

Who's the Emotional Vampire in Your Life? - By Judith Orloff ***
--------------------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
As a physician, I've found that the biggest energy drain on my patients is relationships. Some relationships are positive and mood elevating. Others can suck optimism and serenity right out of you. I call these draining people "emotional vampires." They do more than drain your physical energy. The malignant ones can make you believe you're unworthy and unlovable. Others inflict damage with smaller digs to make you feel bad about yourself. For instance, "Dear, I see you've put on a few pounds" or "You're overly sensitive!" Suddenly they've thrown you off-center by prodding areas of shaky self-worth.
To protect your energy it's important to combat draining people. The following strategies from my book "Emotional Freedom" will help you identify and combat emotional vampires from an empowered place.
Signs That You've Encountered an Emotional Vampire
⢠Your eyelids are heavy -- you're ready for a nap
⢠Your mood takes a nosedive
⢠You want to binge on carbs or comfort foods
⢠You feel anxious, depressed or negative
⢠You feel put down
Types of Emotional Vampires
1. The Narcissist
Their motto is "Me first." Everything is all about them. They have a grandiose sense of self-importance and entitlement, hog attention and crave admiration. They're dangerous because they lack empathy and have a limited capacity for unconditional love. If you don't do things their way, they become punishing, withholding or cold.
How to Protect Yourself: Keep your expectations realistic. These are emotionally limited people. Try not to fall in love with one or expect them to be selfless or love without strings attached. Never make your self-worth dependent on them or confide your deepest feelings to them. To successfully communicate, the hard truth is that you must show how something will be to their benefit. Though it's better not to have to contend with this tedious ego stroking, if the relationship is unavoidable this approach works.
2. The Victim
These vampires grate on you with their "poor-me" attitude. The world is always against them, the reason for their unhappiness. When you offer a solution to their problems they always say, "Yes, but..." You might end up screening your calls or purposely avoid them. As a friend, you may want to help but their tales of woe overwhelm you.
How to Protect Yourself: Set kind but firm limits. Listen briefly and tell a friend or relative, "I love you but I can only listen for a few minutes unless you want to discuss solutions." With a coworker sympathize by saying, "I'll keep having good thoughts for things to work out." Then say, "I hope you understand, but I'm on deadline and must return to work." Then use "this isn't a good time" body language such as crossing your arms and breaking eye contact to help set these healthy limits.
3. The Controller
These people obsessively try to control you and dictate how you're supposed to be and feel. They have an opinion about everything. They'll control you by invalidating your emotions if they don't fit into their rulebook. They often start sentences with "You know what you need?" and then proceed to tell you. You end up feeling dominated, demeaned or put down.
How to Protect Yourself: The secret to success is never try and control a controller. Be healthily assertive, but don't tell them what to do. You can say, "I value your advice but really need to work through this myself." Be confident but don't play the victim.
4. The Constant Talker
These people aren't interested in your feelings. They are only concerned with themselves. You wait for an opening to get a word in edgewise but it never comes. Or these people might physically move in so close they're practically breathing on you. You edge backwards, but they step closer.
How to Protect Yourself: These people don't respond to nonverbal cues. You must speak up and interrupt, as hard as that is to do. Listen for a few minutes. Then politely say, "I hate to interrupt, but please excuse me I have to talk to these other people... or get to an appointment... or go to the bathroom." A much more constructive tactic than, "Keep quiet, you're driving me crazy!" If this is a family member, politely say, "I'd love if you allowed me some time to talk to so I can add to the conversation. " If you say this neutrally, it can better be heard.
5. The Drama Queen
These people have a flair for exaggerating small incidents into off-the-chart dramas. My patient Sarah was exhausted when she hired a new employee who was always late for work. One week he had the flu and "almost died." Next, his car was towed, again! After this employee left her office Sarah felt tired and used.
How to Protect Yourself: A drama queen doesn't get mileage out of equanimity. Stay calm. Take a few deep breaths. This will help you not get caught up in the histrionics. Set kind but firm limits. Say, for example, "You must be here on time to keep your job. I'm sorry for all your mishaps, but work comes first."
To improve your relationships and increase your energy level, I suggest taking an inventory of people who give you energy and those that drain you. Try to spend time with the loving, nurturing people, and learn to set limits with those who drain you. This will enhance the quality of your life.

My Living Will

MY LIVING WILL
Last night, my kids and I were sitting in the living room and I said to them, 'I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle. If that ever happens, just pull the plug.'
They got up, unplugged the computer and threw out my wine.
The little sissies.

To give due credit, as this took someone else's writing and added to is,
here is what I have on file as the original version:
*The Ten Commandments of Mother Earth
I. Thou shalt love and honour the Earth for it blesses thy life and governs
thy survival.
II. Thou shalt keep each day sacred to the Earth and celebrate the turning
of its seasons.
III. Thou shalt not hold thyself above other living things nor drive them to
extinction.
IV. Thou shalt give thanks for thy food, to the creatures and plants that
nourish thee.
V. Thou shalt educate thy offspring for multitudes of people are a blessing
unto the Earth when we live in harmony.
VI. Thou shall not kill, nor waste Earth's riches upon weapons of war.
VII. Thou shalt not pursue profit at the Earth's expense but strive to
restore its damaged majesty.
VIII. Thou shalt not hide from thyself or others the consequences of thy
actions upon the Earth.
IX. Thou shalt not steal from future generations by impoverishing or
poisoning the Earth.
X. Thou shalt consume material goods in moderation so all may share the
Earth's bounty.*
