Because Christianity Doesn't Own "Faith"
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide May 26, 2011
Over at Circle of Moms, a battle is raging, and it's unfortunate indeed. Here's the scoop. Circle of Moms is a lovely website which rounds up a bunch of different blogs from around the web and groups them into categories so you don't have to go searching all over creation for things you might want to read about. It's aimed at the "mom" demographic, obviously, but it contains some pretty good content by some very talented writers. Currently, they're running a poll to determine which are the top twenty-five faith blogs written by moms. The contest runs until June 8, and voters can pick multiple blogs, and cast ballots every 24 hours.
Now, in theory, this should be a group of bloggers of different faiths - all of whom happen to be moms -- supporting one another and cheering each other on. But apparently, to one particular faith blogger, it's turned into spiritual warfare. You see, there are a number of Pagan mom blogs on there - Kris Bradley's Confessions of a Pagan Soccer Mom being very highly ranked right now -- and that just worries the heck out of someone called Time Warp Wife.
Time Warp Wife, whose real name is Darlene Schacht, is a faith blogger, but she seems to equate "faith" with "Christianity," and so she's written a scathing, hateful blog post in which she calls Kris Bradley and the other Pagan mom bloggers a bunch of evil sinners. Schacht says, "Mixed in with the "faith" blogs are pagan blogs. In fact one of those bloggers, a self-professing witch wrote, "Looking at the nominations there were a couple of pagan blogs which thrilled me to no end. How cool would it be for one of the pagan bloggers to win the top spot?" How sad is that?"
She goes on to say, "Different faith is wrong faith. You have a right to believe it, but believing it doesn't make it "right."
Here's the thing. I don't give a dingo's kidney if Darlene Schacht lives by Biblical principles - and I'd prefer to keep comments about her faith out of the conversation completely. If it works for her, great. And if she doesn't want to be Pagan, goodness knows she doesn't have to be. But I deeply hope that the blogging community - Pagan and Christian alike -- will stand up against someone who preaches Biblical principles on the one hand and then encourages intolerance and bigotry on the other. I'm hoping that Pagans and Christians and readers of every other faith will protest this hatred by voting in support of the various Pagan bloggers in the running.
It's also important to note that Circle of Moms says they support Blog With Integrity, a list of principles that bloggers are asked to follow. The second principle listed is "I treat others respectfully, attacking ideas and not people." If Darlene Schacht makes it into the Top 25, I would say this clause might just disqualify her completely, seeing as how her strategy for winning involves attacking Kris Bradley and others for their faith, merely because it's different from her own.
Update: Less than an hour after I posted this, and several other bloggers spread the word, the Time Warp lady's blog has actually been removed from the competition.

Thanks for this Lady N. Every since I was young I've felt that there is more to the Bible than is on the surface. I'm sure many in this group feel that also. I've tried to read the Bible to do my own research, but I can't get through the wording!
I just finished reading a nice little book - *The Pagan Christ* by Tom Harpur. In this book Tom Harpur takes a look at the allegorical Christ vs the historical Christ. The author does depend much on the works of other authors in writing his book even though he's had his own long career in religion and theology. He takes the hard to read works of others and simplifies it into easy reading. The theory of this book is that the Christ story of the Bible has been taken from the religions from centuries before such as the Ancient Egyptian religions and Osiris. Therefore the Christ story being a metaphor rather than historical. I really enjoyed the book, it seemed in many ways to confirm some of my own thoughts and answered many questions for me.
If the Bible is a rewrite (so to speak) of ancient religions, why all the warfare??

Daily Feng Shui Tip for May 31, 2011

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Tuesday, May 31
I personally believe in the axiom that thoughts are things. So the energies surrounding today's 'What You Think Upon Grows Day' begs me to think about how I can best use this agenda for your advantage. The answer comes in the form of an affirmation. What we think about does indeed grow. But we're also often deep in thought about things that cause us worry or fear. We are thereby feeding those two emotions which causes them to grow. So, how do we stop that way of thinking so that something positive and productive can take the place of energies ill spent? We catch ourselves in the cycle and then consciously stop the line of thinking that is anything less than blissful and we replace it with an intentional affirmation. I almost always only use affirmations that come from that incredibly powerful student of the School of New Thought, the remarkable author, Florence Scovel Shinn. Let's take total advantage of today's advantageous energies and replace all thoughts that aren't supportive or fueled by intentions of success with the following affirmation: 'I am wide awake to my good, and gather in the endless harvest of opportunities.' Say that silently and aloud each and every time you find yourself falling back into the negativity space and see how quickly you grow your own greatness.
The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

June 1, 1563: Witchcraft Laws Go Into Effect

June 1, 1563: Witchcraft Laws Go Into Effect
By Patti Wigington, About.com Guide May 29, 2011
On June 1, 1563, the English Witchcraft Act went into effect. Kept in place until 1951, the laws basically allowed courts to prosecute people for any hint of witchy activity at all. Even if you weren't practicing witchcraft, if people thought you were, they could still take you to trial.
When the last act was repealed, Gerald Gardner began to publish his work, and brought witchcraft back into the public eye without threat of prosecution. The 1951 repeal made it easier for modern Wiccans -- Gardner was able to go public just a few years later, when he published Witchcraft Today in 1954.
Contrary to popular opinion, there has never been a law in the United States prohibiting witchcraft -- the Salem trials took place in 1692, when the US was still a collection of British colonies. In 1985, the Federal government recognized Wicca as a legitimate religion.

Partial Solar Eclipse
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 11:12 am (PDT)
Shortly before midnight on June 1 in Tromsø, Norway, the partially eclipsed sun will hang just above the northern horizon.

Wednesday brings a partial solar eclipse to parts of Asia and North America, but it comes with an odd twist: At one point, the eclipse will be occurring at "midnight" between the two days this week.
During the eclipse, the outer shadow of the moon (called the penumbra) will first fall on northeast Asia as the eclipse begins, and then work its way east across the International Date Line. Because of that timing, this eclipse will have the quirky circumstance of beginning on the morning of Thursday (June 2) and ending on the evening of Wednesday (June 1).
For this partial solar eclipse, the axis of the moon's shadow, the dark cone we call the umbra, actually never hits the Earth's surface, passing about 843 miles (1,358 kilometers) above Cheshskaya Bay and the Bolshezemelskaya Tundra of far northwestern Russia. There, the sun will be seen to dip right to the northern horizon — at the "midnight" point of its 24-hour Arctic day — before climbing again.

Partial Solar Eclipse on June 1, 2011
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 11:13 am (PDT)
Partial Solar Eclipse Occurs on June 1, 2011
A partial solar eclipse will be visible from the high latitudes in the Northern hemisphere on June 1, 2011. This eclipse will be the second of four partial solar eclipses that occur throughout the year.
This image shows the partial solar eclipse's path on June 1, 2011. The different shades of red depict the eclipse's visibility, with the strongest and innermost shade depicting 75 percent visibility, followed by 50 percent visibility, 25 percent visibility, and down to as low as zero percent visibility.
Where is the Eclipse Visible?
The June 1 partial solar eclipse will only be visible to those who plan on traveling north for the summer. A very small partial eclipse can be seen from northern Alaska, northern Canada, Greenland, Iceland, and portions of northeastern Asia. A partial solar eclipse occurs when the moon's shadow misses the earth but passes very close to it. This allows many viewers the opportunity to view at least a small portion of the sun being blocked by the moon.
The Eclipse's Path
The path of the partial solar eclipse begins at sunrise in Siberia and northern China at 19:25:18 Universal Time (UT). The eclipse's path will travel northeast and end at 23:06:56 UT, just north of Newfoundland in the Atlantic Ocean.
Greatest Eclipse Occurrence
The greatest eclipse occurs in far northwestern Russia, near Cheshskaya Bay at 21:16:11 UT with a magnitude of 0.602. This will occur about two hours after the eclipse begins its path from Siberia. An eclipse magnitude of 0.601 will be visible from the Arctic coast of western Siberia, while Icelanders will receive a magnitude of 0.462 just before sunset. The northern parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland will also get a midnight sun eclipse.
Eclipses in 2011
The partial solar eclipse on June 1, 2011 is one of six eclipses that occur in 2011. The full list of eclipses in 2011 includes:
A partial solar eclipse on January 4.
A total lunar eclipse on June 15.
A partial solar eclipse on July 1.
A partial solar eclipse on November 25.
A total lunar eclipse on December 10.
timeanddate.com will provide information on more eclipses close to the time of their occurrence.
Useful tools
Eclipse enthusiasts and travelers can use the World Clock's Time Zone Converter to help discover when the eclipse will occur in cities' local time. People can also get the latest weather information for the eclipse's date from the links located on the results page.
There are tips and tricks on our website that you can learn when viewing the partial solar eclipse. More useful tools are found at the bottom of this page.
Note: Universal Time (UT) is a timescale based on the earth's rotation. UT is about 0.265 seconds behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) during most of July. Fw: DailyOM: What Lies Beneath

Tue May 31, 2011 4:31 pm (PDT)
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:
May 31, 2011
What Lies Beneath
Why We Lash Out
It is human nature to sometimes lash out at others, but we can learn to navigate our feelings without losing our center.
Each one of us has experienced situations where we've found ourselves lashing out at someone without meaning to. We later berate ourselves for losing control and feel guilty for treating the other person badly. And while it is human nature that our emotions and moods will get the better of us from time to time, we can learn to navigate our feelings and negotiate difficult situations without losing our center.
Often, when we lash out, it is because we are having a difficult time containing the emotions that are coming up inside of us. We may be feeling overwhelmed, afraid, frustrated, stressed out, or angry. Having these feelings boiling up inside of us can be very uncomfortable, and it is natural to want to release them. But when we release our feelings from our body by directing them outward and toward someone else, they inevitably impact the "innocent bystander" to whom we are directing this energy. They not only get the brunt of our anger, frustration, or stress, but also they can actually experience this energy as a physical force hitting their bodies.
When you find yourself in a situation where you are about to lash out at the person in front of you, try to center yourself by breathing slowly and deeply. A few slow inhales and exhales can help dissipate the intensity of your feelings before they escape you. Later, when you find yourself in a more reflective state, sit down for a moment; recall the feelings in your body just before and during your outburst; note where you feel sensations coming up in your body; and ask yourself if they are connected to any core issue or experience from your life. If nothing comes to mind, then revisit the situation again, exaggerating the details of what happened by indulging in outlandish "what if" fantasies. Exaggerating events after the fact can help expose the unconscious subtext behind your heated response. Understanding the motivation behind your reactions can help you avoid lashing out again when a similar situation comes up. In learning to navigate around
your emotions, you are gi! ving yourself the tools to feel better the next time your emotions start to boil. In doing so, you will be taking care of yourself by alleviating your own uncomfortable feelings while respecting and protecting those around you.

Elder's Meditation of the Day
"...Grandmother the Earth. That poweris here all the time. It is continuous, andnobody controls it."
-- Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA
There are certain powers that the human beinghas no choice but to obey. We cannotnegotiate or barter with this power. Our choiceis either to conform or to live out of harmony.Whatever our choice, it will be the end resultin our lives that we notice. So it is with thepowers of the Earth which produce life. TheEarth has the life force power. If anyone plantsa seed, the seed will grow. The Earth treatseveryone equally. The human cannot interfere, only obey. We should all show greatrespect for the Earth and Her powers.
Great Spirit, today, let mehonor andrespect thepower of theGrandmother, the Earth.

Aromatherapy Tip

Tue May 31, 2011 6:47 pm (PDT)
A protective oil by nature, Bergamot is indicated whenever the flow of
natural energy is disrupted, leading to imbalanced states such as
irritability, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Bergamot encourages the
release of repressed and inhibited feelings, thus helping to release and
decompress. The sparkling and yet gentle floral scent gives the oil a
sedative yet uplifting quality with the primary effects being calming,
balancing centering and clarifying.
Try blending with Lavender for anxiety and sleep.

Healing the Earth Ritual
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 6:48 pm (PDT)
Healing the Earth Ritual
For this healing ritual, gather the following to represent the four elements: a container of water, a leaf from a tree, a candle or some incense, and a feather. Find a blue marble, or any other object to symbolize the Earth, and bless it with the four elements. Start by brushing the Earth with the feather, to represent air, then pass the object quickly through a candle flame or incense smoke to represent fire.
Next, wrap the Earth in the leaf to represent the element of earth, and finally place the object in the container of water. During this process, focus on letting your energy work to decrease any harm that we do to the Earth. Focus your intentions to drawing humanity's awareness toward hopes and toward efforts to preserve our collective home. Remove the Earth from the leaf, and place it in a location of honor in your home—either on your altar or another place where it can inspire everyone to care for our precious Earth. ~ Ember

especially when traveling by water.
Blood Root: Place on windows and doorways to protect against curses
and evil spirits from entering.
Cinquefoil: Take an egg and cut a small hole in one end. Drain the
contents and let the shell dry. Then stuff the shell with Cinquefoil
and reseal the hole with tape. As long as this egg is kept in the
home it will be protected from evil forces.
Clover: Soak one tablespoonful in one cup of vinegar for three days.
Then strain and sprinkle the vinegar in each corner of every room.
All alien spirits will leave the premises.
Elm Bark: To eliminate slander against you bury some in a box along
with a piece of paper that contains the name of the individual who is
speaking adversely about you.
Pearl Moss: Sprinkle this across the front doorway of the home to
only allow good spirits to enter (this actually works well in
conjunction with the below Sulphur one).
Sulphur: Burn at midnight near your back door to ward off evil. Make
sure the door is open and room well ventilated.

This Week's Moonscopes Forecast
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 6:50 pm (PDT)
This Week's Moonscopes Forecast
For the week of May 29 to June 4
(Missed last week's forecast? Here it is.)
Sunday, Monday,Tuesday(*v/c):the Moon is in Taurus
The Moon is enjoying some time in the signof its exaltation, Venus is enjoying being at home in one of the two signs itrules, Mercury is looking forward to leaving Taurus at the end of this week, andMars is chomping at the bit to move into the next sign. In other words, amixed-bag of astro energies. In the time before any New Moon, and especiallybefore a Solar Eclipse, it's always good to finish any existing projects and toreflect on the past few weeks; when an eclipse is involved, reflect on the pastfew months.
late Tuesday evening, Wednesday(New Moon/SolarEclipse), Thursday: the Moon is in Gemini
Gemini likes to sort things into categories and to make lists (similar to Virgo)and a solar eclipse in this sign invites lists for the next week, the nextmonth, and the next six months. A list that is very specific to Gemini is areading list (or two or three). If you have this sign or the planet Mercuryprominent in your birth chart in some way, you already know exactly what thisrefers to and probably relish the experience.
Friday, Saturday: the Moon is in Cancer
Jupiter is quickly exiting Aries and as a lasthurrah may present an occasion for overindulging (Jupiter) in food, wonderfulfood (Cancer) that will be difficult to turn down. Jupiter just loves to carrythings to excess and it's in a sign that is square, or in a challengingposition, to the Moon right now. On the other hand - throw caution to the windand derive the most pleasure possible from the situation.
Check your astrology chart to find which house (section of your chart) has the current Moon sign on the cusp (the beginning edge) & apply Forecast information to that area of your life aswell.
For example, the Moon is in Leo and one of the suggestions is to entertain - however Leo is located in the 12th house of your chart, which is an inward energy place...then have a small, quiet gathering. By contrast, if Leo is located in the 1st house of your chart, an outward energy place...have a party! Don't have an astrology chart? Click here .
It isinteresting to note when the current Moon is in the same sign as your birth Moon and to see how the flavor of that day carries through the following 30 days.
Current Planet Positions:
Sun - Gemini, until June 22
Mercury - Taurus, until June3
Venus - Taurus, untilJune 10
Mars - Taurus, until June 21
Jupiter - Aries, until June 5
Saturn - Libra,until Oct. 6, 2012
Uranus - Aries, until Mar. 6, 2019
(Taurus, May 16, 2018-Nov. 7, 2018)
Neptune - Aquarius, until Feb. 4, 2012
(Pisces, Apr. 5-Aug. 5, 2011)
Pluto - Capricorn, until Nov. 20, 2024
Current Asteroid Positions:
Ceres - Pisces, until Jan. 20, 2012
Pallas - Aquarius, until Feb. 13, 2012
Juno - Virgo, until July 28
Vesta - Aquarius,until Dec. 21
Chiron - Pisces, until Apr. 22, 2018
Current Asteroid Transits:
Ceres - Harvest the core basics of spiritual beliefs orphilosophies.
Pallas - A practical application of information is the best approach.
Juno - Stateclearly what is wanted in a personal partnership.
Vesta - Personaldesires are mixed together with personal responsibilities.
Chiron -Transcend wounds and negativity through compassion.
Note: Timeframes for Moon signs, void-of-course periods, and current planet & asteroid positions are noted for Eastern time zone (USA). Please adjust according to your own location. Times are not given if the void-of-course Moon occurs for a very short period or if it occurs during the night(based on same Eastern time zone).
* v/c = Void-of-Course - When the Moon is void-of-course, spend time working on projects already in progress, creative endeavors, or self-improvement. Void-of-course simply means that no planets are aspecting the Moon as it gets ready to changesigns. It's best not to start new projects, sign important agreements, or go shopping when the Moon is void-of-course because the result will probably be unsatisfactory in some way.
** Mercury Retrograde - the speed of the planet slows down considerably. Communications, paperwork, electronics, and traffic can become very mixed-up or delayed during this time. A situation will be in the process of changing, so wait until Mercury is direct to finalize anything. In general, maintain a slower, more cautious pace in daily affairs. Always allow at least two days before (to slow down) and after (to resume regularactivities) a Mercury retrograde period. Read More about Mercury Retrograde here

Faeries
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 6:55 pm (PDT)
Faeries
Reality? Tradition? Lore? The kingdom and populace of fairy-
enchantment have long haunted imaginations of poets, dreamers,
peasants, and scholars. Most faery mythology indicates that faeries
manifest as preternatural creatures living between the worlds. This gives
them the ability to sneak through the human populace unseen when they choose, or blatantly appear in a variety of ways to serve their purposes if
they so desire. Much like humans, members of the faery realms have a
checkered history when it comes to helping or harming those of us on the material plane. The majority of faery folk find their roots in European folklore,
although legends and lore of similar entities circulate through most of human
history, regardless of religious belief, cultural nuances, or socioeconomic
status. From Eskimos to the Japanese, the tales, antics, and dangers of
the "little folk" persist. The belief in faeries appears linked to the same area
of human consciousness that creates a connection between religious
mythos and metaphysical practices.
Through the tumultuous history of humankind, the origin of faeries
has been hotly debated. Are they spirits of the dead? Fallen angels? The
essence of plant and tree energy? Do they resemble humans only because
we want them to, or can they really manifest in pseudo-human form?
Are they lore-remnants of a race of people who have long since merged
with the dust of our ever-changing planet, or is our belief in them so strong that we have actually manifested them into the astral through our own process of
thought creation? Is that crazy woman walking down the street and muttering
to herself as she adjusts her red hat just an odd lady, or is she a
Redcap? Sagas and legends evolve from traditional stories, that although
containing fictional and imaginative elements, may have a historical basis.
These sagas and legends could represent in the popular memory a real
happening that was extraordinary enough to be remembered and embellished. Perhaps our faeries fit the profile of the saga or legend?
Faerie legend doesn't just revolve around cute little people with
gossamer wings, or the helpful brownie. A compendium of fairy lore paints
them, if not as downright malicious, with at least little regard for human
morality. At best, quite a few legends portray the faery population with
prankster mentality. The most powerful and unpredictable personalities
manifest as the Sidhe. Originally, the word sidhe meant mound or hill, or the
dwelling place of the Tuatha de Danaan after their defeat by the Milesians. These
ancient shining ones, thus exiled underground, became part of folk legend,
metamorphosing into the faeries as Sidhe, the people of the hills.
The traditional characteristics of faeries can be found in European
literature as in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet (in Mercutio's "Queen Mab's speech), and other great works. To escape
the magics of the most dangerous of faeries, one would employ the use of iron,
as this metal destroys all faery magic. The majority of faeries appear to
live in some sort of organized society, whether it be the ubiquitous
faeryland or underground in the mythical terrain of the Sidhe. Whatever the faery
society, two factors appear to remain constant: the absence of sickness, and
the absence of time.
If one wishes to contact the faeries, or receive their blessings, a
customary offering of milk and honey should be left by the back door of your
home on the first days of spring and summer. Then, as the days warm and the
world around you comes alive with the energy of manifestation, you should
take walks around your home or spend time meditating outdoors, sending
loving energy to the area. As your thoughts merge with the universal
consciousness, you will be sending the signal that you come in peace, merging the spirit of yourself with the energy patterns of the land.

Tarot Meditation for Overcoming Creative Blocks
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99

Tarot Meditation for Overcoming Creative Blocks
Creative blocks are the plague of talented people everywhere. They hold up
important projects and drive otherwise sane people to do strange
things. Here's a great way to break through those blocks and generate ideas
without forfeiting your sanity.
Banishing the Block
Creative blocks are caused by built-up negativity from various other
sources in your life. Stress is a major culprit, and will stonewall any
inner creative urge before it starts.
You must begin by banishing the cloud of negativity hanging over your
head. To do this, take a black candle and place it on the left side of your
altar. Follow it with a blue one to boost creativity, a yellow one for
imagination, and an orange one for success and stimulation of ideas. Arrange the
candles in a half-circle across your altar. Your dining room table will work
if you have nothing else.
Select a tarot card or cards from your set according to the list
below. This card represents the area in which you wish to release your block.
Card List
Page of Wands: instructor, teacher, salesperson, actor, athlete,
performer
Queen of Wands: an entrepreneur, a female boss or supervisor, a
woman involved in many projects, a designer
King of Wands: a decisive leader, a skilled communicator, a mediator
or arbitrator, journalist, teacher, salesperson, drafter, computer-aided
designer
Page of Cups: poet, artist, teacher, dreamy, psychic, emotional
youth, one who studies and learns in solitude
Queen of Cups: an artistic, emotional, empathetic caring woman, a
dancer, a poet, a writer, a psychologist or counselor, a nurse, a skilled
healer, a lover of animals, a woman capable of mysticism and prophecy, a woman
of intuition and keen perception
Page of Swords: singer, architect
Queen of Swords: editor, computer programmer, designer
King of Swords: interior decorator, public relations specialist
Page of Pentacles: producer, photographer
Queen of Pentacles: producer, photographer, woman of authority
King of Pentacles: fiction writer, director, lecturer, fashion
designer, scriptwriter, radio writer, sculptor
Place your card(s) in a row before the candles. At this point you
may cast a circle if you wish.
Light the candles and sit before your altar. Concentrate on each
candle in turn, and visualize its purpose. Take your time, and don't rush it.
Next, concentrate on the card(s). Visualize yourself as successful
in your field. Picture yourself with an endless stream of ideas. All you
need to do is summon them. Don't let any negative thoughts intrude. Visualize
your ideas bringing you success. You can be more specific when
visualizing ideas, such as "hard science fiction stories," or an "action adventure
screenplay." Don't be afraid to tailor this meditation to fit your needs at any
given time.
When finished, extinguish the candles in reverse order and close your
circle. Repeat the meditation as often as necessary.

Midsummer Night's Eve
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 6:59 pm (PDT)
Midsummer Night's Eve
It's the longest day of the year, called the Summer Solstice, and it
has traditionally been a time of great feasting and merriment. These
festivities arose from a fear that the waning light would disappear altogether, so
ancient peoples built huge bonfires to warm the heavens and help keep the Sun
going. As the years passed, magical rituals replaced the original rites and
included many spells for romance and marriage.
Some girls set sedum plants in their bedroom windows on this night. The
direction the plants pointed in the morning would tell the girl from which way
her future husband would arrive.
Ferns have been said to bloom only at midnight on Midsummer's Eve, and can
be used in a wide variety of ways. By gathering three grains of fernseed, it
is believed that the gatherer can magically summon any living creature who
walked, swam, or was able to fly. Worn in the shoe, these seeds can make one
invisible. If carried in the hand, they can help one to find hidden
treasures, especially gold. Gathering this seed is a risky proposition and must be
done with the utmost of skill. Midsummer Night's Eve is the only time you can
gather the seeds, between the hours of eleven and midnight. In
silence, you must approach the fern and lay a white cloth under it.
It is very dangerous to touch the fern with your bare hands, and the seeds
must be allowed to fall of their own accord, although it has been deemed
permissible to use a forked hazel rod to bend the plant so that the seeds may fall
onto the cloth. The danger lies with the spirits who will try to prevent
your collection of the fernseed. Many stories have been reported of past
gatherers and their run-ins with mischievous spirits or demons who fly all about,
bumping into one to cause one to touch the fern or drop the seeds (I
couldn't find out what exactly can happen to you if you do touch the plant, but
it seems ominous). They can also frighten the gatherer to illness or death
if not properly prepared or protected, and in some cases, the seeds have been
stolen before the gatherer got home. If you can avoid the spirits and are
prepared to follow collection methods to the letter, fernseed
collecting would make a wonderful magical activity to top off the
night for those who dare. Invite your closest friends and plan a party
celebration to outshine all others. Of course, you will have your own ways to
celebrate the feast, but I offer some suggestions here to get ideas flowing:
It's best to make it an intimate night with only a few close friends. A
larger gathering can be expensive and hard to control. Send
invitations with a sprig of thyme. Thyme has always been said to enable one
to see the fairies dancing!
Bonfires are traditional and common to all the countries of Western
Europe. In Sweden, Midsummer is still celebrated but it coincides with
their midnight Sun and their celebrations consist of feasting, dancing, and tales
of the supernatural. Their belief was that on this night, the Witches flew
to see the Great Witch of the mountains. If a bonfire isn't practical, you
can still have a small fire or use your barbecue pit to stand in for the
symbolic fires. Have bundles of herbs for guests to throw on the dying embers
while they chant:
May ill luck depart, as this is so burned.
Herbs good for this are thyme (helps one see into the other
dimension), sage (cleansing and protecting), rosemary (for good luck and
preventing others' negativity from affecting you), or lavender (for
purification, enabling one to see ghosts, and is traditionally thrown on midsummer fires as a sacrifice to ancient gods).
Use lots of beeswax candles for atmosphere (especially on your
table). Torches also help light up the area, because you want to hold your
party from dusk until the wee hours.
Hold the party in your garden. Pretty it up with planters,
streamers, and plenty of white lace on tables, chairs, etc. Be sure to get
some music going for dancers too: soft melodies of flute and Celtic harp or
invite someone who knows classical guitar.
The food can be as simple or complicated as you wish. Just make sure you
have delectable eats so guests can enjoy themselves properly. Here are a few
favorites I've enjoyed over the years. Now celebrate!
Nutmeg-Thyme Bread
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup minced thyme sprigs, plus extra for garnish
1 egg, beaten
1 cup applesauce
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix together the dry ingredients
except thyme and walnuts. Combine the thyme, egg, applesauce and oil. Add
to the dry mixture. Mix in walnuts. Pour the batter into two greased loaf
pans. Sprinkle top with dried thyme. Bake forty-five minutes. Cool, remove
from pans. Make a sweet sauce to pour over slices when served (make an herb
tea, add honey, thicken with cornstarch). It freezes well, as the flavor is
enhanced as it ages. Make 2 loaves.
Chilled Lemony Cucumber Soup
1 cup lemon juice
2 cucumbers, peeled, seeded and diced
1 yellow bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 (10 ounce) package tofu
1 cup white wine
1 cup chopped seedless white grapes
1 cup diced melon
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon dry yellow mustard
Puree in a food processor or blender (you'll have to do it in two
batches). Chill several hours. Garnish with a slice of cucumber and
sprinkle with a dash of nutmeg and some chopped lemon basil. Serves 4.
Lavender Chocolates
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup butter
1 cup cocoa
1 cup lavender flower buds
3 cups quick oats
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dash of salt
Mix the sugar, milk, butter, cocoa, and lavender buds together in a
saucepan. Bring to a boil and boil for three minutes. Add oats, vanilla,
and salt. Mix well. Quickly drop by teaspoonfuls onto waxed paper. When
cool, place in sealed containers. Makes 2 dozen.
Borage Punch
Borage is said to make the heart glad and passions roar!
1 gallon dry red wine
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
1 borage stalk
In a large nonmetal container, pour the red wine, lemon juice and
sugar. Add a stalk of borage, cover and refrigerate overnight. To serve,
remove the borage, pour into a punch bowl and decorate with borage flowers and
lemon slices, and set the punch bowl in ice.
30 servings (enough to last all evening)

Days of the Week Lore
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 7:00 pm (PDT)
DAYS OF THE WEEK LORE
How many of us know how the days of our week
derived their names? With this knowledge we can
attune our magical intent to the respective vibrations
of each day's name. Understanding the origins of
each day of the week helps us appreciate why Wic-
can spells and rituals are carried out on certain
days. Be advised, however, the English names of the
days do not always identify the ruling planet. Students
of French, Italian, or Latin can more quickly recognize
the matching word stems.
MONDAY - THE DAY OF THE MOON
As the name suggests Monday is the Moon Day. In the
French word, lundi, we can see the link to lunar cycles.
This is a day to harness the moon's energy and focus
on issues related to women's health, fertility, and the
domestic scene.
TUESDAY - THE DAY OF HONOR
The name of Tuesday comes from the warrior god
Tui, or Tiw, of Teutonic mythology. The French
word, mardi, corresponds to Mars, the Roman god
of War. Tuesday is a time to focus on masculine
vibrations for invocations relating to hunting, com-
petition, or sporting prowess. This day of Mars is
also good for goal setting, motivation, and courage.
WEDNESDAY - THE DAY OF WISDOM
Wednesday is named after Odin, or Woden, the
great Anglo Saxon god of war and wisdom. The
French word for Wednesday, mercredi, more clearly
shows its link to Mercury, the Roman god of sci-
ence, commerce, and travel. Meditation and focus
on learning, study, travel, and communication are
best performed on Wednesday, the day of Mercury.
THURSDAY - THE DAY OF STRENGTH
Thursday is dedicated to the Viking god of thunder,
Thor. The planet Jupiter rules Thursday, as the
French word, jeudi, suggests. Thursday
is the day to focus on wealth, success, luck, career
development, legal matters, and material growth.
FRIDAY - THE DAY OF LOVE
Friday honors Odin's wife, the Norse goddess of
love, Frigg. Another well known goddess of love,
Venus, from Roman mythology, is present in the
French word for Friday, vendredi. Think today of
love, and perform a ritual for romance. Just as
Venus is the only planet named for a Goddess, Friday
is the only day of the week named after a female.
SATURDAY - THE DAY OF RECKONING
Saturn, the Roman god of the harvest, rules this day
of the Jewish Sabbath. The French word for Saturday,
sumedi, also suggests a link to Saturn. Saturday is seen
as the day of reckoning --- a time to summon energy
for wisdom, legal matters, knowledge, and karma.
SUNDAY - THE DAY OF THE SUN
The day of the Sun is also the Christian sabbath, or
day of the Lord --- making Sunday a traditional day
of rest, reflection, and worship. It is believed that
babies born on this day are destined to be lucky. In
general, Sunday is a day to inspire joy, peace, and
happiness and to focus on growth, healing, and
male health issues.

Healing With Earth, Air, Fire, and Water--Part 1
Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com nightshayde99
Tue May 31, 2011 7:03 pm (PDT)
Healing With Earth, Air, Fire, and Water-- Part 1
Just as the elements fire, earth, air, and water are the building
blocks of life, to an astrologer they provide the foundations and vital
indicators for the health and well-being of an individual. Each of us has a
dominant element in our makeup. When we identify it we've got an excellent
tool for improving our health.
How do you identify your dominant element? Start with your Sun sign
for an indication of your essential vitality. The fire signs, Aries, Leo,
and Sagittarius, are the most radiant and vital of the signs. Next are
the air signs, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. The water signs, Cancer,
Scorpio, and Pisces, are more dense. They are a much more difficult medium
through which to manifest, and take longer to charge up again. Earth signs,
Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, are the most dense, giving tenacity rather than
vitality.
Fire signs are conductors. They like to spread their energy around.
Air signs are curious and ready to relate. Water is more self-protective
and indirect. Earth is cautious and conservative. Water is accented in
childhood, while fire is strongest in adolescence. The air element
increases with age, and earth strengthens with maturity.
The Fire Constitution
(Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire rules the function of internal combustion, or digestion, in the
body. Fire is needed to burn up and absorb foods cleanly and efficiently.
Fire is purifying; it is necessary for removing toxins, viruses, bacteria,
and fungus from the system.
Fire signs have the ability to burn off viruses and fight diseases
more aggressively than any of the other signs. The extremely high
temperatures and sudden acute inflammations that are natural for a fire sign
can be terrifying without the knowledge that this is quite the norm for them.
The fire element is strongest from puberty to middle age, in the
summer, and daily at noon. Fire has good recuperative abilities from
ailments that are extreme and short-lived. Fire sign people tend to ignore warning
signals from their bodies. If injured, they will attempt to stay mobile,
seeing no reason to stop to recuperate.
The Earth Constitution
(Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
The earth element rules the skeletal and eliminatory systems. The
earth element is essential to growth, reproduction, and repair of tissue.
Like water, the earth element is vital and active in childhood, becoming
more dense with age. Earth signs know how to conserve themselves, and
have a natural instinct as to which foods are right or wrong for them.
Earth is more accomplished at building up than breaking down, hence
there is a tendency toward weight problems, tumor growth, and glandular
disorders (especially involving the thyroid). Overeating and a diet of heavy
foods create excess earth, which is aggravated by sedentary habits and lack
of exercise.
The earth signs have strong sense impressions and thrive on contact
with the earth. Theirs is a strength of endurance and persistence. They are
more resistant than fire or air to transient colds and flu, but find it
harder to throw off bugs once they have taken hold.
The Air Constitution
(Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Air rules the nervous and circulatory systems, and the function of
movement, i.e., peristalsis, urination, and breathing. Air people are easily
stimulated, with quick and extremely sensitive minds that are easily
stressed.
The air constitution tends to catch and throw off health problems
quickly, but can suffer from lingering aftereffects because of impatience and
inconsistency, and unwillingness to slow down or remain focused long
enough to recover fully. They tend to have a low threshold for pain.
The air element is accentuated between 2:00 and 6:00 a.m., by dry or
windy weather, excess sunlight, x-rays, computer and TV radiation, loud
sounds, and by shock and fear. The air element strengthens with age, which
works to your advantage if you are naturally low in air.
The Water Constitution
(Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
The water element rules the reproductive and lymphatic systems, and
all the liquids of the body. Water lubricates and cools the body. Water
signs are exceptionally sensitive to their environment, particularly to
fungi, bacteria, and viruses. They are sturdier than they look because of
their accentuated ability to flush toxins from the system. Their body type
tends to be well rounded and full, with good skin. The water element is
strongest during childhood.
Health issues for water signs generally have a strong emotional
component, though it is not necessarily their own emotions they are
responding to. They easily pick up negativity from others. They tend to brood on their
health and imagine problems to be greater than they are. Frequently there
is a periodicity to their health problems, which they can use to their
advantage if they learn to anticipate these periods of lowered vitality.
They respond well to a practitioner who is sympathetic, cheerful, and optimistic, and willing to spend time with them to ferret out underlying emotional issues.
Types of Constitutions
Division of human constitutions into different classifications has
been around for thousands of years. In the fifth century BCE Hippocrates
developed four basic types, which he correlated from the elements of
astrology. There's the phlegmatic or earthy constitution, valued for
its unemotional calm, and the cheerful optimism of the sanguine, or air
constitution. The melancholic, or water constitution, has its
emotional sensitivity, and the choleric, or fire sign type, has a hot temper.
This methodology was developed and widely used by physicians into the
nineteenth century. There is currently a revival of interest in
constitutional types by many practitioners in the mainstream and
alternative health fields. Conventional medicine has ignored the unique
makeup of each individual when recommending treatment, and yet we all know we
respond differently to illnesses, stresses, and even to medications. By
identifying the constitution of individuals we can have an idea of the
progression of their illness and choose the best form of treatment for them.
The information gained is focused on what sort of patient has the disease
rather than what sort of disease the patient has.

Object Cleansing Ritual

Object Cleansing Ritual
For a magical cleansing, gather any unclean objects on the day after
a Full Moon, wrap them in a red cloth with some sea salt, and bury then in
an area of the yard that you do not use for any purpose. After a month has
passed, remove the object, bury the salt in the earth where the object was,
and burn the cloth.

What Are The Limits To Magic?
We've all seen in the media or read in books about amazing spells
that could take out entire towns, summons forces the likes no
mortal has ever seen, or a magician with near deity powers. They
make for awesome reading but obviously that's fiction at it's
finest.
But it has made me wonder what are the limits to magical power,
spells, and curses?
At one point, if you had told a human that he could talk to
someone half the world over from the convenience of his living
room, he might have laughed. Or said that travel outside of this
world was possible and might one day be commonplace you might
have find yourself committed and under treatment.
So like physical technology, could magic one day aspire to
fantasies of J.K. Rowling and other such fantasy writers? Or is
magic something else entirely?
I've heard it described as force of will. So does that imply that
magic is limited only by the will of the wielder or the physical
limitation of the wielder. So theoretically, the skies can be the
limits and one day we could become thunderbolt tossing, meteor
summoning demigods if we have the strength of will to do it?
