The Green Thing

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Fri May 13, 2011 11:01 am (PDT)

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should
bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the
environment.

The woman apologized to him and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back
in my day."

The clerk responded, "That's our problem today. The former generation did not
care enough to save our environment."

He was right. That generation didn't have the green thing in its day. Back then,
they returned their milk bottles, soft drink bottles and beer bottles to the
store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed
and sterilized and refilled, so it could use the same bottles over and over. So
they really were recycled.

But they didn't have the green thing back in that customer's day.

In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in
every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and
didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

But she was right. They didn't have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the
throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine
burning up 220 volts - wind and solar power really did dry the clothes. Kids got
hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new
clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house - not a TV in every room. And
the TV had a small screen the size of a handkerchief, not a screen the size of
the state of Montana. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because
they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you. When they packaged
a fragile item to send in the mail,
they used a wadded up old newspaper to cushion it, not styrofoam or plastic
bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn.
They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so
they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on
electricity.

But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty instead of using a cup or a
plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled their writing
pens with ink instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in
a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got
dull.

But they didn't have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the tram or a bus and kids rode their bikes to school or
walked instead of turning their mums into a 24-hour taxi service.
They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power
a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a
signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the
nearest pizza joint.

But isn't it sad the current generation laments how wasteful the old folks
were just because they didn't have the green thing back then! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Facts About Friday the 13th

The origin of the link between bad luck and Friday the 13th is murky. The whole thing might date to Biblical times (the 13th guest at the Last Supper betrayed Jesus). By the Middle Ages, both Friday and 13 were considered bearers of bad fortune. In modern times, the superstition permeates society.

Here are five of our favorite Friday-the-13th facts:

In all fairness, though the destruction of the Templar's may be one source of the supposed unluckiness of Friday the 13th, it is NOT the only one.

Daily Feng Shui Top for Friday, May 13

Fri May 13, 2011 11:58 am (PDT)

Daily Feng Shui Tip by Ellen Whitehurst for Friday, May 13
Today we're going to take a leap of faith and see the kind of fortune that Feng Shui says you can get just by positioning a lucky little frog inside your house! I know these benefits already. Each spring I see a family of frogs that greets the change in seasons. Before I even knew what froggy Feng Shui says, I noticed that every time that family frolicked something spectacular would happen in my career. So it was no surprise when a master teacher confirmed that this philosophy says that a family of frogs living in the backyard can protect from danger and any potential bad luck. According to Feng Shui, frogs and toads bring auspicious fortunes and lots of luck. One frog symbol in particular won't get stuck in your throat, but it does scream success when positioned appropriately inside your space. The Three Legged Toad is said to attract wealth and money into the home, as it is a symbol of financial success. The Chinese also believe that the spawn of the frog falls from the heavens above, so they associate frog spit with miraculous, healing medicine. This same culture holds that one of the most effective cures for a sore throat caused by excessive smoking is boiled frog spit. This moneymaking symbol can be placed at floor level under chairs and sofas and can be facing in any direction, although many masters say they should never be looking directly out of the house. Place one at the front door looking in and watch as cash and coin come hopping over to sit a spell with you!

The Knight's Templar and Their Destruction

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Fri May 13, 2011 12:05 pm (PDT)

Why Friday The 13th Is Unlucky
Why is Friday the 13th considered unlucky?

The short answer is that on Friday October 13, 1307 King Philip IV of France ordered simultaneous raids on members of the Knights Templar leading to the execution of many and the destruction of the order.

The Templars were charged with numerous offenses including idolatry, heresy, homosexuality and fraud. They were also accused of performing strange, secretive occult rituals involving homosexual acts or devil worship. In other words, they were accused of the worst crimes possible in fourteenth century Christian Europe.

Many Templars were tortured into confession and summarily executed causing quite a controversy in Europe. The Knights Templar had been defenders of the Holy Land for almost 200 years. They had broad commercial interests and are considered by some the world's first multinational corporation. Their downfall shook European society to its core.

The Knights Templar's growing political and financial power had made them increasingly unpopular in Europe. The Knights Templar were responsible for protecting the Holy Land but had lost a series of battles starting in the late 12th century ... first losing Jerusalem in 1187 ... Acre, Tortosa and Atlit in 1291 .... finally losing their foothold in the Holy Land altogether by 1303.

King Philip IV also had a personal motive to destroy the Templars: he owned them a great deal of money. However, the debt relief did not help him much.

When the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar: Jacques de Molay burned at the stake he cursed King Philip and Pope Clement V with his last words. Within a year both men were dead. King Philip's sons also died at early ages and his royal line was soon distinguished.

With such a dramatic social change occurring on Friday, October 13th, 1307 .... many people have speculated this was the beginning of the superstition that the day is unlucky. The truth is, no one really knows the origin of the superstition.

The last Grand Master of the Knights Templar: Jacques de Molay

The many battles of the Knights Templar

Freaky Friday the 13th

Posted May 12th 2011 at 6:03PM by Tarot.com, Tarot.com

May 13, 2011 is the only Friday the 13th of the whole year! And believe it or not, the superstitious may feel even more out of luck on this Friday the 13th in particular. Why? In the science of Numerology, the exact date of May 13, 2011 reduces to ... you guessed it: the number 13.

The number 13 has been considered unlucky since medieval times, most likely because of its association with the number of people at the Last Supper. Friday, too, is seen as unlucky because that was the day of the crucifixion. For the superstitious among us, that makes Friday the 13th a double whammy. For the rationalists among us, the opposite is true, as we recognize that two negatives can make a positive.

All in all, it's sure to be a lucky day for some, an unlucky day for others and an average day for the rest of us. This is because the effects of our individual cycles far outweighs any broad, peripheral influences. The question for you, then, is how do you know in which category you will find yourself?

There are two different sets of influences that affect an individual at any given time, those that are internal and those that are external. Numerology calls your internal forces your "personal cycles," and considers them far more powerful than any external energies. This is the main reason Numerologists generally consider any possible universal negative influences of a date, such as Friday the 13th, to be negligible in relation to the individual.

The only people who are strongly affected by this superstitious date are those who suffer from a fear of Friday the 13th, a phobia called "paraskavedekatriaphobia." These are the folks who undoubtedly experience every Friday the 13th as an unlucky day -- such is the power of self-fulfilling prophecies. For the rest of us, the experiences of that day are affected 99.9% by our personal cycles, as reflected in our personal Numerology chart. Understanding where you are in your personal cycles can help you take advantage of the positive forces and limit the potential impact from negative forces.

As a human being you carry within you the forces and energies that influence the way you experience every moment of every day, and those powers are yours to work with. And contrary to popular belief, you have a lot of control over them -- it requires just as much effort to be miserable as it does to be happy.

You may, therefore, want to learn what personal influences are at play during Friday the 13th or any other day. Take advantage of the knowledge that is out there and use it to your benefit.

And did you know?...

-- The 13th day of the month is slightly more likely to be a Friday than any other day of the week.

-- Every year has at least one and at most three Friday the 13ths.

-- Just as many people are born on Friday the 13th as any other day, but there are slightly more people who die on Friday the 13th. The theory is that fear, with or without reason, can kill.

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

That is really cool. I always envied those born on Friday the 13th (or any 13th) and October 31. My daughter Miranda was born on August 13, but it wasn't on a Friday. She has had quite a few birthdays on Friday in her 31 years, though.

13 Freaky Foods for Freaky Friday

Next

July 13, 2007 4:09 pm / Read More: Anthony Bourdain, freaky foods, weird foods, freaky friday, friday the 13th, gross foods

In honor of Freaky Friday (today's Friday the 13th!), I thought I'd pull together a list of 13 freaky foods. Even if you don't have Triskaidekaphobia (the fear of 13), you may be afraid of some of the things on this list. I know that there are a bunch of other freaky things out there (how about almost anything Anthony Bourdain eats on his show?), so if you think something's missing, tell us in the comments!
#13 - Bubble Tea
I personally love this stuff, however I've known quite a few folks that are freaked out by the tapioca inside of the tea. Come to think of it, I know a lot of people that are freaked out by tapioca in general...

#12 - Pimento Loaf
Processed meats are a bit freaky to begin with, but Pimento Loaf really creeps me out. Finely chopped pork and beef supplemented with pickles and pimentos? No thanks.

#11 - Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Jelly Beans
I know these are just meant as a novelty item, but seriously Vomit flavored Jelly Beans that actually taste like vomit? No thanks...

#10 - Squid Ink Pasta
I don't have a problem with this lovely pasta dyed with squid ink. However some folks find eating black pasta to be just a bit too freaky...

#9 - Edible Bugs
I've had a few of these, and while some of them are actually interesting to try, I just can't seem to get past the idea that they're still creepy, crawly bugs.

#8 - Scrapple
I've actually never had (or even heard of) scrapple, however quite a few folks were quick to add it to their freaky food list. Based on the definition, I can see why it makes the list. What's not freaky about a loaf of savory mush from cornmeal, flour and pork scraps?

#7 - Chou dofu - aka Stinky Tofu
This super popular Asian snack is one of the worst things I have ever smelled. Stinky Tofu is a fermented tofu dish that is very... um, fragrant. Some folks say it smells like stinky feet, baby poo or worse (use your imagination). Personally I don't get it (my mom has forced it on us several times a year), it's not tasty enough to get past the smell.

For the rest of our freaky food list, read more
#6 - Sweetbread
I'm actually a fan of sweetbreads, but many folks can't wrap their heads around the fact that they're eating innards. My biggest problem is actually the name.

#5 - Pickled Pigs Feet
The little piggy feet are salted and smoked like bacon and ham, but then are placed in a jar of hot brine and preserved for months. I don't know about you, but I just have a problem with eating feet.

#4- Chicken Feet
As I mentioned above, I have a problem with feet. This time it's a delicacy that is usually served in dim sum. Chicken feet are usually deep fried then boiled and marinated in a black bean sauce. However there are a ton of little bones. It's gross to look at and quite frankly, just not worth the effort.

#3 - Sea Urchin - aka Uni
When I asked the folks in the Sugar HQ to name a freaky food, 5 of them said Sea Urchin. Uni is served in many sushi restaurants and is actually the gonads of the sea urchin. It has a creamy texture and a yellow/orange hue. It's a bit like a firm custard, but I sort of think that it's like biting down on a squishy tongue.

#2 - Black Pudding aka Blood Pudding/Sausage
Anything with the word "blood" in it deserves to be on the freaky list. Blood pudding - which actually has very little to do with pudding and a lot to do with blood - is a sausage made by cooking animal blood with a filler until it is thick enough to congeal.

#1 - Balut
I love poultry and I love eggs, so I should love balut, right? I live by the "try anything once" motto, but even I might have a hard time chowing down on a boiled almost whole baby duck stuck inside of an egg.

I got 29 right. Average score is 18.1. It says I am smarter than 60% of people taking this test. Well, it is Friday the 13th; strange things happen, LOL!

Kundalini Energy
Tapping into Potential

We all posses a widely unknown powerful energy called Kundalini which sits at the base of our spine.

In the classic Hatha yoga and Tantra traditions, each person is believed to possess a great reservoir of dormant feminine energy. This raw creative energy lies tightly coiled at the base of the spine. It is often associated with the serpent. Kundalini energy is part of the life force, so there is always a minute amount flowing through your subtle body. Only when properly understood and awakened can it express its full potential, rising through you and energizing your senses. It is possible to awaken your Kundalini through different forms of meditation or yoga, though the process should be undertaken slowly. A hasty opening of the Kundalini center can cause headaches and other physical symptoms. Raised properly, Kundalini energy has the potential to spring forth as active kinetic energy that may result in altered states of consciousness.

Once you have tapped into your Kundalini, what you experience will be unique. Some people experience the rising of the Kundalini upward through the chakras as spreading warmth and a feeling of extreme well being. Others find they have more energy and libido and are consistently happier. If you awaken your Kundalini, you may find yourself getting sick less often. The results vary from person to person, but the benefits are generally positive. You may be thinking about raising your Kundalini on your own. One way to do this is to draw the Kundalini up through the Shushumna, the passageway that travels through the center of your body toward the head, by visualizing the energy as a serpent traveling upward. But only bring it up a little at a time and use caution. If you experience headaches or a burning sensation, you may be going to fast and should consult a teacher.

Though awakening the Kundalini can be a difficult experience, it can also be a rewarding and exciting one. As the raw energy of the Kundalini is transformed into a potent storehouse of refined energy waiting to be utilized, you will be tapping into a rich source of creativity and awareness.
