No May Laurelin Pagan potluck and discussion

Posted by: "Kirk White" laurelin@sover.net   laurelinkirk

Wed May 25, 2011 9:33 am (PDT)

Dear folks,

The Laurelin Pagan potluck for May is cancelled. All of the primary organizers will be at A Sacred Place's "Turning the Wheel: Beltaine" in Canaan, NH. Kirk will be teaching these classes:

Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
A show-and-tell talk about the history, theory, practices and uses of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Everyone will leave with at least one tool or piece of information that they can use to help heal themselves, their families and communities.
Presenter: Kirk White has been a licensed and nationally certified acupuncturist and Oriental medical practitioner since 1994. (1 hour - 1.5 hours)

Elemental Stewardship
The four elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water are often invoked into our sacred spaces. Yet we often do so without fully understanding what that means or how to perform the duties of an elemental steward. This class will talk about what it means to be an Elemental Steward in ritual, spiritual community and in one's own life; and how to prepare for this powerful work.
Presenter: Kirk White is Director of the Soulpoint Mystery School's rEvolutions and Elemental Stewardship programs. (1 hour - 1.5 hours)

Freemasonry and the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
Many modern Pagans do not know that large parts of our spiritual symbols, beliefs, practices and even our sayings such as "Merry Meet" or "So Mote It Be" all come from Freemasonry and its offshoot, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. We'll talk about the history, symbols, rituals and practices of these organizations, how they influenced modern Paganism in the past and how they continue to do so even today. There will be props, costumes and show-and-tell.
Presenter: Kirk White has been actively involved in various fraternal, esoteric and ceremonial orders including the Masons and the HOGD for many years. (1 hour - 2 hours)

For more information on this event: http://www.aspcanaan.org/

The NEXT Potluck will be on June 26th. Hope to see you here!

Camping and Overnight Accommodations
Again this year, we are going to let people camp wherever they want - in the field, forest or in-between. The pottapotties, showers, potable water, meals and concerts will all still be down near the house so if you camp in the woods, plan to get your hiking in. There will be designated fire pits. Do not make new ones. This time of year is typically dry but rainstorms have been known to happen, so we strongly recommend you bring a tarp or ground cloth to put under your tent.

Parking space is limited, so no campers or RV's, please.
There are a limited number of B&B's and inns in Bethel and nearby towns. Please contact Laurelin staff if you would like further information.

Toilets, Showers, and Water
Port-a-potties will be available on-site. There is an outdoor shower with warm water. (You may want to bring solar showers if you like warm/ hot showers). There is an outdoor sink for washing dishes and drinking water. All of these are down near the main house.

Village Builders
This year we will be having a special day for those people who would like to come together as a smaller group to share, connect and participate in the creation of our magickal village. In ritual and with magickal intent, we will break into teams each dedicated to creating and maintaining one aspect of our magickal community - some hard physical labor, and others less so. Arrival is by Noon on Tuesday, August 3rd. There is no cost for coming to Village Builders however the meal plan will be offered (dinner on Tuesday, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Wednesday). Cost for the Builders meal plan is an additional $28.00.

Workshops, Rituals, and Activities
If you have an idea for a workshop, ritual, discussion, performance, or children's activity - we'd LOVE to hear about it! Don't be shy - we're open to any and all ideas. Help us make Lughnasadh an exciting, rich and fun-filled experience that will keep everyone coming back year after year (and bringing more friends too!). Send your proposals via email to: laurelin@sover.net before July 1st. (Sooner is better!) You will be notified by July 8th whether or not it is accepted.

Vendor Info
We'd love to have lots of vendors for Lughnasadh 2011! Crafts, clothing, food, mead, New Age, whatever! We've got plenty of space and there is no fee for merchanting; however, we do ask a 10% commission on your sales at the end of the event. One person (the merchant) can have their registration fee waived. Any guests/ helpers would have to pay full registration. You still have to provide your own food, travel, etc. Please complete the Vendor Registration form and return it with your reservation along with photos of your booth and/or website information. These can be very useful for promoting you before you even get here. Please bring your own setup/display, weather protection, and safe storage facilities.

Pets/ Dogs
Dogs are welcome this year at the festival. However, you MUST provide proof of rabies vaccination or your dog will not be permitted. Further, all dogs must be kept on-leash at all times in the fields or around the house. They are free to run loose in the wooded areas. You are expected to pick up and dispose of any waste left in areas where people will be walking, camping, etc.

Your pet must be calm, non-disruptive, and under your control (on leash or off) at all times. If it fights with other animals, is disruptive by barking or other behaviors, is threatening or causes damage to the site or its other occupants, or not under your control at all times you will be required to take the pet off-site with no refund.

For more information or to get a registration packet: contact Kirk at laurelin@sover.net or 802-234-9670

About Linda & Hawk

Linda Fernandez has a deep reverence for the profound love, truth and beauty in
all that life has to give, teach and inspire. She lives her life with the open
compassion and integrity of an awakened heart--offering herself, in divine
communion, as an empathic channel and guide through which healing, teaching and
transformation can flow through. Her healing sessions focus on returning to the
simplicity of Being, the practical application of consciousness into daily
living and bringing all in 'right' relation and harmony with self and others.
Its about reconnecting, awakening and embracing the truth of who you are--so
that you can begin to embody and radiate your joy, passion and magnificence out
into the world.

Linda is the lineage bearer of both her grandmother’s shamanic traditions as
well as the designated heir to a well-known Cherokee heyoka medicine man. She is
a graduate of New York University’s School of Social Work. She has over 10 years
of experience as a clinical sexologist specializing in sex therapy and is
certified by the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality and the
American Academy of Clinical Sexologists. She is also a member of the American
College of Sexologists. In addition to her healing practice, Linda is co-editor
of Souldish Event Listings, a webzine promoting high frequency culture. She also
volunteers her healing services, in support of the Marie Crosby Fund, for the
affordable healing series and psychic & health fairs at Edgar Cayce's
Association for Research and Enlightenment in New York City.

Walking Hawk grew up under the keen tutelage of wise medicine elders from a
mixture of different nations. Being exposed to the humble ways of the ancestors
gave Walking Hawk the insight to train and reflect on the oneness of Mother
Earth and all who live with her. As a Heyoka medicine man and former chief, he
walks the contrary path with Spirit and lives in compassionate service to the
people. Many people come from all over to attend his healing lodges and
ceremonies. His openness and insight have also brought him to many ceremonies
and gatherings, both open and secret, throughout the nation and abroad.

Today's Goddess: Cordelia Well Dressings (Europe)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed May 25, 2011 8:15 pm (PDT)

Today's Goddess: Cordelia
Well Dressings (Europe)

Themes: Blessings; Prayer; Beauty; Fairy; Wishes
Symbols: Flowers; Water

About Cordelia: A British nature Goddess, Cordelia is part of every spring and
summer flower that blossoms. This is the beauty she brings into our lives
today, along with all the positive energies of spring. Traditionally, Cordelia
does not appear until May, when the earth is fertile enough to sustain her
glory. Art sometimes depicts her as being a citizen of fairy realms, and
perhaps a flower princess.

To Do Today: Well-dressing festivals go back to animistic times, when people
believed sacred wells held beneficent indwelling spirits. To appease these
powers, people decked the well with Cordelia's symbols: garlands of spring
flowers. They then asked for the gods' goddess', or spirits' favor. So, if you
have any type of fountain or well nearby, today is a day for wishing! Take a
small offering (coins if a fountain; a flower if a natural water source) and
toss it in while whispering your desire to Cordelia.

To draw the attention of Cordelia and her companions, the fey, into your life,
take a dollhouse chair and glue any or all of the following items to it: thyme,
straw, primrose, oak leaves, ash leaves, and hawthorn berries or leaves. Leave
this on a sunny windowsill (preferably one with a plant on it) to encourage
fairy guests, who will bring all manner of spring frolic into your home.

Invoke the Corn Maiden Spell

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed May 25, 2011 8:16 pm (PDT)

Invoke the Corn Maiden Spell
.
Each May my grandfather would plant corn. After the tasseled stalks grew, I
would play among the corn rows with my faithful spaniel at my side. Surrounded
by the corn and with a blue Midwestern sky overhead, I felt secure. Using this
ritual will allow you to also draw upon the protective power of the Corn Maiden.
On your altar, place three candlesâ€"one each of green, yellow, and brown; also
place a small dish of yellow cornmeal next to the candles. Light the candles,
saying:

Corn Maiden,
Mother and Crone,
Protect my family,
hearth, and home.
Raise the cornmeal, and continue:
Please accept this humble offering to you.
I ask for security and bounty in all that is yet to come.
.
Conclude by sprinkling the cornmeal outdoors, so the birds and other wild things
may share your offering.
