A Dragon Love Spell
Source: Unknown

For this spell you will need:

Seven stones
Rose petals
Apple seeds
Lodestone

Gather seven small stones and place them in a circle. In the middle of the circle, scatter a handful of rose petals and apple seeds. Place the lodestone in the middle of the circle. Say:

Rose petals and apples
Dragons and stones
Draw nigh true love
So I am no longer alone

Mist of the Dragon
Breath of the night
Draw from the Universe
Perfect love that is right

A Basil And Cinnamon Love Talisman
Source Unknown

Items needed:

A large
Flat plate
A small picture of yourself (no one else should be in it)
Ground Cinnamon
Dried Basil
A ceramic bowl
A pink candle
A candle holder
A small piece of pink cotton cloth
Pink yarn
Matches (and a heat-proof container for the spent matches)

This ritual can be performed at any time. Hold the candle between your hands. Close your eyes. See yourself as a loving person. Fill yourself with love. Push that loving energy into the candle. Place it in its holder and light the candle. Next, place the plate before the candle. Put the small picture of yourself on the middle of the plate. Using a spoon or the bottle of spice itself, pour a small circle of ground cinnamon on the plate around the picture. Say:

Love surrounds me

Pour a larger circle of basil around the cinnamon ring, saying once again:

Love surrounds me

Now pour a third, larger circle of cinnamon around the basil circle saying:

Love surrounds me

Hold your hands, palms down, over the three herb circles and your picture for a few moments. Sense the energies that are rising from the herbs. Raise energy. Visualize. Carefully pour the herbs and the picture into the bowl. Place your hands into the bowl and mix the herbs with your fingers, sending energy into them, while saying these or similar words:

Spice and herb,
Plant and tree
Send someone
To love me
Love we'll share
Equally
As my will,
So mote it be!

Dust off your hands. Pour the spices and the picture into the center of the pink cloth.
Gather up ends, twist them together, and tie them shut with the pink yarn. Place the love talisman beside the candle. Let sit there at least 18 minutes. Afterward, pinch out the candles flame (or snuff it) and carry the talisman with you to attract love. Burn the candle at approximately the same time each day for at least 7 minutes. Love will find you. You should make another one in about 7 months.

A Couples Spell

A Couples Spell
By Laurel Reufner; Spell-A-Day

Color of the day: Black
Incense of the day: Sage

Life is hard on relationships. The demands of career, kids, and different work schedules all add up and often it's the relationship you treasure most that suffers. Ennui sets in, creating a distance between loving partners, and if you aren't careful you're soon taking each other for granted. Fight back with this fun spell, for which you will need some chocolate and something sparkling to drink, such as wine, carbonated water, or sparkling juice. Perhaps the two of you have a favorite chocolate dessert that you can make together. If not, buy some good chocolates that you both will enjoy. Pick a time when the two of you can be together and alone without interruption. Wear a little something you know your partner enjoys seeing you in. Light some candles, and snuggle up together and feed each other chocolates. While doing so, be mindful of just how much you care for this other person, and how much you enjoy sharing your life with him or her.

Chinese Astrology - Happy Chinese New Year

We're in the year of the Rabbit! I know we've got those in flood parts of the world, I hope you're safe and praying you'll get the aid and help that's needed.

Chinese Astrology

HISTORY CHINESE ASTROLOGY

* Chinese Astrology is more than 2,000 years old.
* Originally, astrology and astronomy were inseparable.
* Practitioners were always present as officials of the imperial court.
* Astrology was also used to show what would even happen to a nation.
* By the time of the Tand Dynasty (618-907) a whole encyclopedia had been written about how to give astrology readings for people.

ORIGINS OF THE ANIMAL SIGNS

* The real origin of the animal signs in Chinese astrology is not clear.
* Legend suggests the creation is attributed to the Yellw Emperor in 2637 B.C.
* The Yellow Emperor is a semi-mythical figure.
* Another legend attributes Buddha c.563-c.483 B.C, with the creation of the animal cycle.
* Buddha had invited all the animals to visit him but only twelve turned up.
* To show thanks, Buddha dedicated a year to each animal throughout history.
* The years were allocated in the order the animals arrived.

CHINESE NEW YEAR

Chinese New Year begins on the second New Moon after the Winter Soltice, so it's a different day for each year. For example, in the year 1996, the Chinese New Year started on February 19th. In 1997, the Chinese New Year started on February 7th. Fifteen days laster, the Lantern Festival is celebrated at night with lantern displays and children carrying lanterns in a parade.

The Chinese calendar is based on a combination of lunar and solar movements. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days. In order to "catch up" with the solar calendar the Chinese insert an extra month once every few years (seven years out of a 19-yearcycle). This is the same as adding an extra day on leap year. This is why, according to the solar calendar, the Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are celebrated as a family affair, a time of reunion and thanksgiving.

The celebration was traditionally highlighted with a religious ceremony given in honor of Heaven and Earth, the gods of the household and the family ancestors. The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family. The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great community. The communal feast called "surrounding the stove" or weilu. It symbolizes family unity and honors the past and present generations.

The first day of the Lunar New Year is "the welcoming of the gods of the heavens and earth." Many people abstain from meat on the first day of the new year because it is believed that this will ensure long and happy lives for them. On the second day, the Chinese pray to their ancestors as well as to all the gods. They are extra kind to dogs and feed them well as it is believed that the second day is the birthday of all dogs. The third and fourth days are for the sons-in-laws to pay respect to their parents-in-law. The fifth day is called Po Woo. On that day people stay home to welcome the God of Wealth. No one visits families and friends on the fifth day because it will bring both parties bad luck. On the sixth to the 10th day, the Chinese visit their relatives and friends freely. They also visit the temples to pray for good fortune and health.

The seventh day of the New Year is the day for farmers to display their produce. These farmers make a drink from seven types of vegetables to celebrate the occasion. The seventh day is also considered the birthday of human beings. Noodles are eaten to promote longevity and raw fish for success. On the eighth day the Fujian people have another family reunion dinner, and at midnight they pray to Tian Gong, the God of Heaven. The ninth day is to make offerings to the Jade Emperor. The 10th through the 12th are days that friends and relatives should be invited for dinner. After so much rich food, on the 13th day you should have simple rice congee and mustard greens (choi sum) to cleanse the system. The 14th day should be for preparations to celebrate the Lantern Festival which is to be held on the 15th night. On New Year's Day, the Chinese family will eat a vegetarian dish called jai. Although the various ingredients in jai are root vegetables or fibrous vegetables, many people attribute various superstitious aspects to them:

* Lotus seed - signify having many male offspring
* Ginkgo nut - represents silver ingots
* Black moss seaweed - is a homonym for exceeding in wealth
* Dried bean curd is another homonym for fulfillment of wealth and happiness
* Bamboo shoots - is a term which sounds like "wishing that everything would be well"
* Fresh bean curd or tofu is not included as it is white and unlucky for New Year as the color signifies death and misfortune.
* Whole fish - togetherness and abundance
* Chicken for prosperity. The chicken must be presented with a head, tail and feet to symbolize completeness.
* Noodles should be uncut, as they represent long life.

In south China, the favorite and most typical dishes were nian gao, sweet steamed glutinous rice pudding and zong zi (glutinous rice wrapped up in reed leaves), another popular delicacy. In the north, steamed-wheat bread (man tou) and small meat dumplings were the preferred food. The tremendous amount of food prepared at this time was meant to symbolize abundance and wealth for the household.

Prior to New Year's Day, Chinese families decorate their living rooms with vases of pretty blossoms, platters of oranges and tangerines and a candy tray with eight varieties of dried sweet fruit. On walls and doors are poetic couplets, happy wishes written on red paper. These messages sound better than the typical fortune cookie messages. For instance, "May you enjoy continuous good health" and "May the Star of Happiness, the Star of Wealth and the Star of Longevity shine on you" are especially positive couplets. The entire house should be cleaned before New Year's Day.

On New Year's Eve, all brooms, brushes, dusters, dust pans and other cleaning equipment are put away. Sweeping or dusting should not be done on New Year's Day for fear that good fortune will be swept away. After New Year's Day, the floors may be swept. Beginning at the door, the dust and rubbish are swept to the middle of the parlor, then placed in the corners and not taken or thrown out until the fifth day. At no time should the rubbish in the corners be trampled upon. In sweeping, there is a superstition that if you sweep the dirt out over the threshold, you will sweep one of the family away. Also, to sweep the dust and dirt out of your house by the front entrance is to sweep away the good fortune of the family; it must always be swept inwards and then carried out, then no harm will follow. All dirt and rubbish must be taken out the back door. Bringing In the New Year and Expelling the Old.

Shooting off firecrackers on New Year's Eve is the Chinese way of sending out the old year and welcoming in the New Year. On the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, every door in the house, and even windows, have to be open to allow the old year to go out.

All debts had to paid by this time. Nothing should be lent on this day, as anyone who does so will be lending all the year. Back when tinder and flint were used, no one would lend them on this day or give a light to others. Everyone should refrain from using foul language and bad or unlucky words. Negative terms and the word "four" (Ssu), which sounds like the word for death, are not to be uttered. Death and dying are never mentioned and ghost stories are totally taboo. References to the past year are also avoided as everything should be turned toward the New Year and a new beginning. If you cry on New Year's day, you will cry all through the year. Therefore, children are tolerated and are not spanked, even though they are mischievous. Personal Appearance and Cleanliness On New Year's Day, we are not suppose to wash our hair because it would mean we would have washed away good luck for the New Year. Red clothing is preferred during this festive occasion. Red is considered a bright, happy color, sure to bring the wearer a sunny and bright future. It is believed that appearance and attitude during New Year's sets the tone for the rest of the year. Children and unmarried friends, as well as close relatives are given lai see, little red envelopes with crisp one dollar bills inserted, for good fortune.

For those most superstitious, before leaving the house to call on others, the Almanac should be consulted to find the best time to leave the home and the direction which is most auspicious to head out. The first person one meets and the first words heard are significant as to what the fortunes would be for the entire year. It is a lucky sign to see or hear songbirds or red-colored birds or swallows. It is considered unlucky to greet anyone in their bedroom so that is why everyone, even the sick, should get dressed and sit in the living room. Do not use knives or scissors on New Year's Day as this may cut off fortune. While many Chinese people today may not believe in these do's and don'ts, these traditions and customs are still practiced. These traditions and customs are kept because most families realize that it is these very traditions, whether believed or not, that provide continuity with the past and provide the family with an identity.

FIVE ELEMENTS

Each animal has a predominant natural element that rules over them.

There are five elements:

* Wood - Personal growth, health and a concern for living things.
* Fire - Filled with energy, but also restless
* Earth - Leadership qualities, but can also mean someone who is never satisfied.
* Metal - Quiet, contained, and capable of understanding evil.
* Water - Flexible and capable of deep thoughts.

There are no earth elements in correspondance to an animal sign because earth occupies the center of all elements. In addition to each animal having a natural element, each individual year has a presiding element. In some years, the year element is in sympathy with the animal's element, in other years it will work against. So in the non-sympathetic years, an animal might have to overcome more obstacles that the year encompasses.
