Up full of energy, up late last night, the Moon Goddess told me, just what to write...I reall became so inspired last night, I recieved energy from groups...or should I say, allowed it in, plus my kitty told me to untie two of my MoonKnots (where I harness the power of the full Moon. This came to me. I had to jump out of bed and get paper for I was afraid I wouldn't get I down. This is the first of three:

Yin-Yang
Light begots Darkness and Dark begots Light,
The night becomes day and the day becomes light.
Th Goddess becomes Me and I become She,
The Air brings the dewdrops to the top of the trees.
The cold brings the chill and then We make Fire,
We go through each day and then we retire.
Well, what does this mean? it can mean just one thang,
We are together as one, the Yin and the Yang.

Here is a little more of what I did last night. I hope some of you can enjoy this. When I have been under alot of stress, and I am coming out of it; I become, well, inspired.

Mother Earth

Oh blessed Gaia, My Mother Earth;
Bringer of wisdom, giver of birth.
In Spring you spring forth and then You mature;
In Summer You flourish and then you endure.
When Autumn comes round, Samhain is abound;
Then Winter comes nigh, You wither and die.
The Circle of Life is what You teach me;
I will worship and cherish You, So Mote it Be!

Okay, I know some of you are wondering what got into me...well I do not know. What I do know is I have been working with Hecate for a few months now. She came to me in a dream and told me if only I would allow her to help me she would. She is my triple Goddess and I enjoy all three aspects of her. Some people fear the Crone; I do not. The Crone is full of knowledge and is a caring, should I say Grandmother. Here is a tribute I wrote for her last night...the las of a series of three (imagine that...heeheehee!).

Allegiance

Hecate, My Goddess, I hold You dear,
Bringer of Death, Destruction, and Fear.
You are not only Maiden, but Mother and Crone,
The Three of You make Me feel not alone.
I do not understand why they fear you so,
for once You turn Dark, You again start to glow.
Your face, I can see in the Moon as It shines,
together we're one, we are so entwined!
Teller of secrets, bringer of Death;
for You ther seems that there is no real rest.
You shape and you mold Me 'cause I asked You to;
and all I have to do is pay allegiance to You!
You take my life's obstacles out of the way;
with Destruction and Death, oh that's what they say.
Hecate, My Goddess, come into Me;
Together as One, together as Three!
So Mote it Be, Blessed Be

Road Rage Spell

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Oct 10, 2011 2:31 pm (PDT)

Road Rage Spell

Road rage seems ever more common on our highways and roadways today. To
protect yourself from an outbreak of "road rage" either from another, or in
yourself, prepare (or purchase) a small, white drawstring pouch. Place
hematite, bloodstone, and crushed rue in a small bowl. Extend your hands
over the bowl and form a triangle with your thumbs and forefingers.
Visualize a protective beam of energy descending into your crown. Focus this
beam through the triangle to the bowl, and say:

Let the rage of others
and the rage of my own,
Become harmlessly grounded by herb and by stone.

Empty the contents of the bowl into the pouch, and place them in your car.

Travel Divination

If there is an upcoming trip that you feel uneasy about, perform this simple divination using a bowl of water and a stone. When you are alone, place the bowl of water on a table and sit in front of it. Ask whether you should undertake the journey. Be very specific in your wording. Meditate for a few minutes, and request your spirit guides to be present with you. Drop the stone into the bowl of water, and pay keen attention to the ripples created. An even number of ripples means the answer to your query is "yes." An odd number indicates "no." Thank your spirit guides, and pour the water down the sink. Wash the stone, and store it in a pouch.

A Little Kitchen Magic: It's All in the Preparation!

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:40 pm (PDT)

A Little Kitchen Magic: It's All in the Preparation

The difference between "High Magic" and "Kitchen Witch" is that a Kitchen Witch does not need a stage, an audience, or props to make the magic. Rather, the focus is on intent, creating the maximum amount of energy, and doing the work.

But we find we do need a staging area; a place we can work in private and have all the tools we need to work our magic. For many women, it used to be the kitchen, where once upon a time we spent most of our waking hours preparing meals and doing chores. In between stirring the cauldron and drying the herbs, we would find the time to set up a magical working on the kitchen table, read cards for a neighbor, or brew a love potion for a special friend.

Reality strikes--this is the twenty-first century. Most of us business types hardly see the inside of our kitchen except to brew coffee, and many of us ignore that small box they sold us as a kitchen when we bought the house. And if you live in an apartment, you know what I mean when I say "utility kitchen" and how very close it comes to "utility closet."

Nevertheless, we need to prepare a space for working. For most folks, this is a double-duty space where meals are prepared and magic is performed. Or maybe it will be storage space for pizza boxes and empty Chinese takeout containers that alternates with storing bottles of herbs and oils.

But no matter how large or small your kitchen, it will end up being the ideal place for working your magic. Why? Because it is the one place in the house with the storage space you will need and a countertop or tabletop to work your magic. It is also the one place where we feel most at home, comfortable and secure. No matter how much time we spend in the kitchen, it is our hearth, the center of our life.

Magical real estate in the home should be set aside. Even if it is a shelf in a small closet, the storage of some oils and herbs should be away from the food stock and secure enough to keep prying eyes and fingers away from your "stash." I realize there may be children in the house, or husbands or wives who do not want to know what you are doing. A space should be agreed upon as your private space and as such, it should be respected and left alone. Having said that, we move on.

Not all your stock is going to be inedible. Most of your stock will hang out in the spice closet and the baking shelves. Most Witches I know have a spice closet (not a rack) that would rival most grocery stores, which is also a great place to get most supplies at a good price. Whole cloves, nutmeg, fresh cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans, cornmeal, and more can be purchased in a supermarket and are freshness dated. Freshness counts! Sorry, but I have been in Pagan stores where the cinnamon sticks are twice the price, half the weight, and as old as the store itself. If you buy from a local Pagan store, demand freshness. And hold yourself to those same standards--clean out your magical cupboard regularly so that fresh supplies are always on hand. The rule of thumb is if the product is a year old, it's time to get rid of leftovers and purchase or acquire fresh.

Oils are the same way. You can find many oils in health food stores, pharmacies, and department stores. While you will not find the specialty blends that are available at the Pagan store, you will find the basic ingredients. Please be advised, we are being frugal here. I will shop at the best Pagan stores for the special blends I want, but for my own blends, I shop fresh and affordable.

Candles are a whole different ball of wax. (Hmmm...a pun.) Moving along, candles are a personal preference and depending entirely on the quality you need and your pocketbook. White utility candles are a staple. They can be used for everything and do not require a bank loan to purchase. But when we want specialty candles--specific colors, compositions, or scents--again, seek out your local Pagan store. The candles there are often handmade. You can find beeswax and soy varieties, as well as candles that have solid color throughout. I hate it when you get a candle and it's only colored on the outside, the inside is plain white--cheating on the dye. I like solid color candles. But composition, that is your own choice. I find I only go for the beeswax when I want something special.

A walk in the park on a sunny weekend will yield a plethora of "extras" that may grace your closet essentials. Stones, leaves, acorns, and even the stray feather can be found in a park (and if it has a beach, sand and shells, too). Keep your eyes open because you never know what you might stumble across. Once, I hit a construction site that tore down a building that had brickwork. The old brick smashed up nicely into red brick powder. Not a bad deal--and ecological, too. Look to the natural world to supply you with the "extras" you may need for your working.

Then, of course, there are the hobby shops. A bag of the black river stones I like to use for protection spells come cheap in these stores--so does sprinkle sparkles for that touch of fairy dust; handmade paper for spellwork; and small wooden boxes, clay bowls, or colorful jars for the spirit homes. Gemstones, paints, oils, candles, and even wooden binders for Books of Shadows can come from those lovely discount hobby stores if you look close enough.

So we come back to the kitchen space. A shelf in a closet for those things we cannot eat, and shelf space for those things we can eat. Those edibles will serve double duty and we can always be assured that they will be regularly replaced with fresh stock. However, I do recommend a separate set of mixing bowls. You really don't want to put your edibles in a bowl that had something that could leave behind oil or residue that is not good for your digestive system. I recommend a trip to the flea market or the Goodwill store for used bowls. Most secondhand shops have an interesting array of items. I found the perfect small cauldron, cast iron with three legs, at a Christian consignment store. It was labeled "fondue pot." Yeah, right. But it was mine for $5.00.

Setting up your working space is totally up to you. I keep a jar of kosher salt (I love the texture) on the counter. When working, I start by spreading some salt on the counter, get a clean, damp rag, and wipe the counter clean. Cleaned and grounded. A little salt on the floor to remove any bad residue is a good idea as well. Mop and go!

Some folks like to "decorate" their working area. Small personal altar space with some stones or herbs seasonal fruits or flowers always makes a nice display. A wooden cutting board with a lovely pentacle painted or carved into it makes a great portable workspace, and if you reserve it for spellworkings (and don't prepare food on it) you really don't need to worry about what you just cleaned on the surface.

A couple of candleholders discreetly placed will set the mood for the working. Colored light bulbs work well if you do not want to use candles. I've seen clear or colored lights running under kitchen cabinets that look like fairy lights and create a stunning effect for working in the kitchen. For those who are concerned about energy use, the new LED bulbs for under the kitchen counters are perfect for mood lighting.

If you have a center island or a kitchen table to work from, you are lucky you have such an ideal space. But for those who have a galley-style or utility kitchen, setting this up is going to be much more difficult. I suggest you get a stool, and set it next to the counter. It will get you closer to your work and make you more comfortable in close quarters.

Storage of your supplies and equipment should be considered. Kitchen canisters can hold candles, funnels, droppers, and more. I reuse candle jars for herbs and stones. I actually keep my cookie sheet for burning candles on and working some spells. I have a bowl for water, a lovely deep cobalt blue. Great for scrying!

I also have a couple of mortar and pestles. While a Cuisinart might be a choice for the modern Witch, I like to sit and contemplate what I am doing. I am slowly blending and bashing the herbs or stones I am adding to the mix, and in the process, I am adding energy and intent. And there is nothing like the smell of freshly bruised herbs to focus one's mind on the process at hand.

Which brings me to another topic--incense. We may clear our space with sage or burning herbs, but I am not all that great with smoke. In a confined space, smoke will build up quickly and can cause respiratory issues. I like oils in a diffuser. A candle under a small bowl of water and drops of essential oil is lovely to me. Or the smell of the herbs you are using and mixing with the other oils. Why do I want to "flavor" the area with another smell if I am going to be using smell in my working? Try something different from incense. Let the aroma of the working fill your space.

Getting down to the real working, if you are going to mix oils for a special blend, you will need a few basic tools. Eyedroppers are essential. So are funnels and small bottles.

For my "success" blend, I usually make about a dozen half-ounce glass bottles, sometimes more (the cost per bottle is very reasonable if you buy from a wholesaler). Use the web to search for suppliers. A local store will provide cheaper postage. And of course, there is always ebay. It's an afternoon's worth of work whether you make a large batch in a mixing bowl or mix it in the jars. I recommend making a larger batch of your special blend than you need. Although it will use up your supplies more quickly, you can sell the extras. (People are always asking for my success oil!) By adding a label to the bottle--Avery, or a cheaper brand printed from my computer printer--and a ribbon and a charm, they make very attractive gifts.

The last of the essentials is your "recipe book." A Book of Shadows is an essential in the kitchen when you are working. First, you keep the recipe. Second, you keep the incantation. Third, you keep the process. Finally, you keep the results. A spellworking is nothing unless you know whether it worked or not, and if you can repeat it exactly a second time and get the same results. You should be working in that book before you even set foot in the kitchen. You should have your intent specifically laid out, your research done and verified, all your needed materials on hand and checked, and your plan written (all the particulars) before you set up.

So, your workspace is clear, your BOS is worked up and open on the counter, and you have laid out all the ingredients and bowls on the counter. Here is a question I get a lot: Do I create a circle?

My question back to them is: What are you doing? If you want to create sacred space and call a deity to work with you on this project, then feel free. There are, of course, many Witches or magic practitioners who do not work with Deity. But I have some very different ideas.

I am drawing energy into this working, even with the help of my deity. And I will be sending this magic out to a project or person when it is completed. I am drawing energy into myself, coating it with intent, and then placing it into the project to add more energy, then releasing it. If I draw a circle around me to contain what I am doing, how am I going to collect the energy I need and how am I going to release it? If I am cooped up in my own bubble, how does all my working come in or go out?

Even if I am working something chaotic, I still need to draw in and then release. Forming a circle will impair that working.

Yes, I will call the elements or an element to my spellworking. Yes, I will draw all kinds of energy from that pool we all draw from to build my spellworking. And yes, depending on the work, I may call upon Deity to work with me to add an extra push to my working. When my intent is clear and I have built up to a point where the energy is at its peak, I will release it. I will then give thanks to the elements, to the energies, and to my Deity for their assistance. But I will not create a circle to contain it. What I will do is clean up when I am done.

Cleanup is sometimes confusing. My working had a specific intent. If it is for me, that is one thing, I will draw that energy to me, allowing it to change me as it changes my world. But if that intent was for someone else, the energy is not mine to draw. I will salt down an area when I am done to remove any leftover energy. Candles will be removed and buried no matter who the working was for. Ashes will be buried. Any salt or stones or paper or inks or oils will be sent to the earth as well. These had intent, and the intent is released. Much of what I work with is "one-use only" when used for anyone else. My own materials, however, I will keep for reuse if I need to repeat the working.

At this point, you should also be writing in your BOS. What did you do? How did you feel? What did you feel? And what may have happened as you worked? Did you see something, or hear something? Was there an emotional response from your inner-self that should be noted? Was there an external response that you should note? And there should be follow-up. Was your intent answered? What was the final outcome of the working? Did you receive feedback from your client?

A final note: working as a Kitchen Witch does not mean you have to work in the kitchen. If you have space elsewhere in the house you want to use, by all means use it. You are still a Kitchen Witch no matter where you work because you use what is at hand without all the glitz and glamour. Do not be restricted by name when you have the opportunity to set up a room for working that will serve as a personal private space. But again, do make sure you are prepared, make sure you have everything you need, and remember you don't always need the little trinkets or props. The key is intent, energy, and the desire to manifest change. A good Kitchen Witch knows how to create the maximum amount of energy with the minimum amount of personal energy expended and without tools. Sometimes your finger is all you need.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"Lots of people hardly ever feel real soil under their feet, see plants grow except in flower pots, or get far enough beyond the street light to catch the enchantment of a night sky studded with stars. When people live far from scenes of the Great Spirit's making, it's easy for them to forget His laws."

-- Tatanga Mani (Walking Buffalo), STONEY

Nature is life's greatest teacher. The natural laws are hidden in nature. Hidden are solutions to everyday problems such as; conflict resolution, how to forgive, lessons about differences, how to manage organizations, how to think. Hidden are feelings. You can look at something and you will feel it. At night, have you ever looked at the sky when there are no clouds? As you look at all the stars, your heart will become very joyful. You will walk away feeling joyful and peaceful. We need to visit nature so we can see and feel these things.

My Creator, let me learn nature's lessons.

Speaking Out About Halloween

This is a great article to share (if you dare, LOL!) with those who are not Pagan.

Speaking Out About Halloween

Halloween: the time of year that just about everyone associates with
Witches, along with ghosts, goblins, and other scary "supernatural" beings.
But I've been a witch for more than twenty years and I can tell you there is
nothing either scary or supernatural about us. And there is nothing more to
fear on Halloween night than on any other night of the year.

Each year as October approaches, self styled experts flood the media with
dire warnings about the supposed physical and spiritual dangers of
celebrating Halloween. They trot out the same tired old rumors of poisons
and razor blades in trick or treat candy. They hint that your neighbors are
probably child molesters. Lately they've been making the astonishing claim
that Witches put curses on the treats they distribute, so that the children
who eat them will be "possessed by demons."
There is no truth to any of it, there never has been!

Witches are actually rather ordinary folks; not a wiggly nose among us. We
have jobs and families, we vote and pay taxes, and we want most of the same
things you do: Peace, prosperity, a good world to leave our children. Unlike
most people, though, we spend part of each autumn faced with open religious
discrimination, based on needless ignorance and fear.

Witchcraft, also known as Wicca, is a modern revival of the pre-Christian
religions of western Europe. We are pagans, that is, we see divinity in
nature rather than in a transcendent spiritual realm or an omnipotent being.
We speak of our deity as the Goddess or Mother Nature, although to most of
us the godhead is dual - both Goddess and God. As such, our beliefs lie
outside mainstream Judeo-Christian concepts.

This does not mean however, that Witches are in any way opposed to
Christianity. Like most religions throughout history, we grant that
different faiths are right for different people. We oppose only the mistaken
belief of some individual Christians that since they posses the only "real"
religion, constitutional freedoms of religion do not apply to the rest of
us. On the rare occasions that Witches find themselves in conflict with
Christians, we see it as a civil rights matter, not a religious dispute. We
are not interested in arguing "my Gods better than your God."

Wicca's ethic laws are at least as stringent as those of other faiths: Our
law says "Harm none," and that means not our neighbor, not our neighbor's
dog, and certainly not out neighbor's child. It prohibits not only physical
harm but such intangibles as violation of another's free will. And it means
ourselves, as well; a Witch should cultivate both bodily and mental health.
This outlook on morality, because it does not rely on obedience to specific
commandments, covers much more behavior: Rather than worrying about sinning,
we try to foresee the results of our actions so as to take the wisest
course. While we may not share Christianity's beliefs in heaven and hell, we
do believe that all actions have consequences, and that whatever good or
evil we do will find it's way back to us. Our ethos comes from within rather
than being imposed from outside or above. It is based on personal honor and
responsibility, and by these principals we live and hope to live again on
our beloved Mother Earth.

As worshippers of nature, Witches celebrate a wheel of eight Sabbats or
sacred days: Ancient festivals marking the round of the seasons. The
Christian calendar, as even some Christian writers have noted, borrows
heavily from Paganism. This is no doubt because until very recently people
of every faith shared the same experience of the land and the passing
seasons.

We share Yule, for instance, which is the old name of both the winter
solstice and Christmas. Easter, derived from the celebration of the Spring
Equinox, is even named after the Saxon fertility Goddess Eostre. And though
Protestantism abandoned them long ago, both Imbolc (Lady Day) and Lammas
(August Eve) have been retained in the Catholic year, as has All Hallows
Eve…Halloween.

To witches, Halloween is a religious holiday much like Thanksgiving, a time
to feast in praise of nature's bounty. It is also our New Year's day, time
to let go of the old and look forward into the future. The old name for this
festival is Samhain, pronounced approximately "Sow-un." This is a Celtic
(Irish, Scottish) word meaning "summer's end." Some writers have claimed
that Samhain is the name of a Celtic death god, but Celtic scholars consider
this a fabrication. In fact, Samhain is to this day the name in parts of
Ireland and Scotland for the month of November.

Samhain is the last of three harvest festivals. August has Lammas, the grain
harvest; In September was Mabon, Autumn Equinox and the apple harvest; and
on the eve of November is Samhain, the cattle harvest.
The idea of a cattle harvest is strange today. But in ancient times, it was
essential. Though the Celts counted their wealth in cattle, they could not
keep whole herds alive through the winter. Rather than let all of them
starve, they kept the best animals for breeding stock, the rest were
blessed, thanked, and butchered. This was not some occult "blood sacrifice"
but practical animal husbandry, done with respect - essentially "pagan
kosher."

Every community held it's own Samhain feat, and the people stuffed
themselves with all the autumn goodies they would not see for another year,
especially that great seasonal luxury, meat. They stored up food for the
winter not in a refrigerator, but as fat on their own bodies. (We of course
do have refrigerators. Our feasts come mostly from the super market.)
With the dying of the cattle and the seeming dying of the year, it was
appropriate also to remember the communities' human dead. The religious side
of the feast of Samhain has always included recalling by name our loved ones
who have passed over during the year, with prayers for their safe passage.
This is the origin of the secular Halloween's "spooks": The spirits of all
the beloved dead gathering around one last time for our farewells. For us
this formal letting-go is an important aspect of the grief process.

Pagans in general, and Witches especially, do not share the horror of death
which pervades mainstream culture. Because we are a joyful people , we hope
to avoid death as long as is practical, but we do not particularly fear it.
Witches see it as a transition, an alternate reality, which in it's own
manner serves life. Because we love life, Witches are healers and gardeners
and artists, cooks and craftspeople and teachers of lore. Because we value
balance, Witches honor Death at Samhain.

The part of Halloween that makes it Halloween to most Americans is of
course, "trick or treat." Interestingly, this custom, though ancient, is
preserved much more faithfully in North America than in the old countries.
Large numbers of Irish and Scots emigrated here just before the old ways
began dying out in the British Isles, in the period between Queen Victoria
and World War 1. By then the celebration was far different than it had once
been.

The house to house begging processions that we now call trick or treat were
not originally part of Halloween at all. From the Middle Ages right up
through he renaissance such processions were a major part of Advent and
Christmas; like most Yule customs, the true origin is lost in Pagan
antiquity. Along with other Yule merriment, the processions were suppressed
during the Protestant Reformation. But the people would not give them up,
and took them underground by simply moving them to Halloween.
One feature of modern Halloween, though, has always been a part of it:
disguises.

The ancient Celts believed in fairies, as many modern Celts still do. And
they believed that at Samhain the walls between our world and the realm of
fairy grew thin, and that the fair folk could come over. The fairies were
said to ride the mortal lands then stealing beautiful human children to
raise as their own. So, mothers "uglified: their children for the night:
dirtied their faces, ratted their hair, dressed them in rags - whatever
might make the fairies overlook them. And the children, kids being kids even
in the middle ages, thought this was a blast! Eventually, as usually happens
with folk customs, the reason for it was forgotten: today any kind of
costume can be worn, or none at all.

So, what should a modern parent do? Is it safe to send your children out
trick-or-treating? Though not as safe as it used to be, the truth is that
it's fairly safe if you use some common sense.

Those horrifying tales of razor blades and drugs in candy have happily
proven to be what is called an urban myth, like the sewer alligators and the
ghost hitchhiker: You know someone who says they know someone it happened
to, only no one actually does. Hospitals have offered free X-rays of
Halloween treats for many years now, and have never found a foreign object.
Only one case of Halloween poisoning has ever actually been substantiated by
the authorities, and it proved to have been done by the children's own
father after they came home. It seems they were insured better than they
were loved.

Nor are your children likely to have any spells cast on them on Halloween or
any other time. While there are a few "wanna-be-Satanists" around who might
like to cast spells on your kids, the truth is, they can't. Magick has
natural laws, just like any other physics and chemistry. One of those laws
is that innocence is armor against evil. Another is that magick takes work.
The kind of people attracted to "black magick" generally either are just
showing off or think they've found a way to get what they want without work.
Once they realize the enormous amount of effort it takes to violate the free
will of even a child, they're all through.

What the Witches on your children's route are likely to do to them is make
them mad: We tend to give out healthy stuff instead of candy. One Witch I
know gives toothpaste!

But real dangers do exist. Every year trick-or-treaters are hit by cars on
dark streets, bitten by dogs, fall down stairs - any number of mishaps.
Predatory humans, though mercifully few, are real. And excited, sugar high
children are not careful. So the parents must be.

Make sure that your children's costumes enable them to see and be seen; if
you can't talk them out of going in black as Dracula or a ninja (or despite
all I've said here, as the "wicked witch.") Make sure they carry a
flashlight so they're not invisible in the dark.

Arrange with your neighbors for a "safe house" on each block; make sure your
children know where it is and forbid them to enter any other house on their
route. This could be a great PTA project. Best of all, of course, is to go
with them.

Ration the sweets once they're brought home. A heavy sugar overdose can
trigger hyperactivity, hypoglycemia or in rare cases, even diabetes. In any
case it's bad for their teeth and hard on tummies. But don't worry about
your neighborhood Witches, we'll be busy celebrating Samhain!

Ritual for Samhain

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:53 pm (PDT)

Ritual for Samhain

Place upon the altar apples, pomegranates, pumpkins, squashes and other late autumn fruits. Autumn flowers such as marigolds and chrysanthemums are fine too. Write on a piece of paper an aspect of your life which you wish to be free of: anger, a baneful habit, misplaced feelings, disease. The cauldron or some
similar tool must be present before the altar as well, on a trivet or some other heatproof surface (if the legs aren't long enough). A small, flat dish
marked with an eight-spoked wheel symbol should also be there. (On a flat plate or dish, paint a large circle. Put a dot in the center of this circle and paint eight spokes radiating out from the dot to the larger circle. - A symbol of the Sabbats, a symbol of timelessness.)

Prior to the ritual, sit quietly and think of friends and loved ones who have passed away. Do not despair. Know that they have gone on to greater things. Keep firmly in mind that the physical isn't the absolute reality, and that souls never die.

Arrange the altar, light the candles and censer, and cast your circle.

Recite The Blessing Chant:

May the powers of The One,
the source of all creation;
all-pervasive, omnipotent, eternal;
may the Goddess,
the Lady of the Moon;
and the God,
Horned Hunter of the Sun;
rulers of the elemental realms;
may the powers of the stars above and the Earth below, bless this place, and this time, and I who am with You.

Invoke the Goddess and God. (in your own way)
Lift one of the pomegranates and, with your freshly-washed white-handled knife, pierce the skin of the fruit. Remove several seeds and place them on the
wheel-marked dish.

Raise your wand, face the altar and say:

On this night of Samhain I mark your passing,
O Sun King, through the sunset into the Land of the Young.
I mark also the passing of all who have gone before,
and all who will go after. O Gracious Goddess,
Eternal Mother, You who gives birth to the fallen,
teach me to know that in the time of the greatest
darkness there is the greatest light.

Taste the pomegranate seeds; burst them with your teeth and savor their sharp, bittersweet flavor. Look down at the eight-spoked symbol on the plate; the
wheel of the year, the cycle of the seasons, the end and beginning of all creation.

Light a fire within the cauldron (a candle is fine). Sit before it, holding the piece of paper, gazing at its flames. Say:

Wise One of the Waning Moon,
Goddess of the starry night,
I create this fire within Your cauldron
to transform that which is plaguing me.
May the energies be reversed:
From darkness, light!
From bane, good!
From death, birth!

Light the paper in the cauldron's flames and drop it inside. As it burns, know that your ill diminishes, lessens and finally leaves you as it is consumed
within the universal fires.

If you wish, you may attempt scrying or some other form of divination, for this is a perfect time to look into the past or future. Try to recall past lives too, if you will. But leave the dead in peace. Honor them with your memories but do not call them to you. (Many Wiccans do attempt to communicate with
their deceased ancestors and friends at this time... if you must do this... make sure you know how to handle the energies and only do this if you are VERY
experienced.) Release any pain and sense of loss you may feel into the cauldron's flames.

Works of magick, if necessary, may follow.
Celebrate the Simple Feast.
The circle is released.

Maiden, Mother, and Crone

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:54 pm (PDT)

Maiden, Mother, and Crone

Triads involving the Gods & Goddesses are older than the Christian archetype. In the Craft, the triad is symbolized by the Maiden, Mother and Crone.

~ (The Maiden) ~ The Maiden signifies youth, the excitement of the chase, and the newness of life and magick. In human age she would be between puberty and her twenties. She does not have a mate. Her colors are soft & light, such as white, soft pink, or light yellow. Rituals using the Maiden: Any new beginning, or even the hopes and plans for new beginnings. When taking on a new job, or planning to apply for a new job. During the first steps of new ideas, whatever they are. Whenever you plan or begin a complete turn around in your life. Whenever you begin a new phase in your life. On moving, in to a new house or apartment. On entering a new school or going back to school after a delay in education. Any journey that is connected with anticipated changes. This can be anything. The beginning of a new relationship, love or friendship. Plans for getting pregnant. The birth of a child. The first menstruation for girls. Puberty on reaching the teens for boys.

~ (The Mother) ~ The Mother stands for nurturing, caring, fertility; she is a woman in the prime of her life and at the peak of her power. She protects her own and will ensure that justice is done and done well. This woman is usually mated. In human age, she would be seen as a woman in her thirties to mid-forties. Her colors are warmer than that of the maiden, such as green, copper, red, light purple or royal blue. Rituals using the Mother: Project fruition and completion. When childbirth is near. Strength to see matters through to the end. Blessings and protection. This especially applies to females who are threatened by men. Guidance in life decisions. Marriages, or the contemplation of or desire for marriage. Finding or choosing a mate or companion. Gardening, the growing of any plant. Choosing or accepting an animal. Protection of animal life. Making choices of any kind. Gaining or continuing peace. Developing intuition and psychic gifts. Spiritual direction.

~ (The Crone) ~ The Crone is a being of age-old wisdom. She is shrew and counsels well. She cares for the Maiden and the Mother as well as the off-spring thereof. She is logical and can be terrible in her vengeance. She stands at the door to the dimension of death. In human years, she is approximately 45 or older. The Crone is the Most difficult of the three to place in human age. The Crone's traditional colors are black, gray, purple, brown or midnight blue. Rituals using the Crone: Ending relationships, jobs, friendships. Menopause, or coming to terms with aging. Divorce. A regrouping of energies needed at the end of a cycle of activity or problem. Rest and calmness before making new goals and plans. When the garden or plants are ready for winter. Harassment of any kind. Retribution on rapists, murderers, abusers. On the death of a person or pet; of any animal or human. Contemplation at the end of your own life cycle. When moving from a dwelling or job. When strong protection is needed for attacks on the physical or psychic levels, or even annoyance by spirits. To understand the deepest of mysteries. Developing trance or communication with the guides or other spirit

The Troll Tear--A Children's Story for Samhain

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:01 pm (PDT)

The Troll Tear---A Children's Story for Samhain

The night was very dark, with a Full Moon hanging in the cloud-filled sky above. The air was crisp with the feel of late Autumn and the doorway between the worlds was wide open. Carved pumpkins sat on the porches of the houses in the little town, and the laughter of children dressed in costumes could be heard from the streets.

It was a sad time for Beth as she climbed the little hill behind her house. In her arms was her cat and friend Smoky, carefully wrapped in his favorite blanket. A little grave was already dug on the hill, waiting, for Smoky had died that day.

"Do you want me to go with you?" Beth's father had asked. "I dug his grave beside MacDougal's at the top of the hill." Beth clearly remembered when their dog MacDougal had died after being hit by a car.

"No, I want to go by myself," she answered.

Beth stopped at the top of the hill and knelt beside the little grave. She carefully laid Smoky's blanket-wrapped form in the earth and covered it with dirt, laying several large rocks on the top. Then she cried and cried.

"Oh, Smoky, I miss you so much!" Beth looked up at the Moon, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Why did you die?"

"It was his time to rejoin the Mother," said a deep, gentle voice in the darkness.

"Who said that?" Beth looked around but saw no one.

"Dying is part of the cycle of life, you know." One of the boulders on the hill stirred into life.

"Who are you?" The moonlight shone down on the little woman, and Beth could see she was not human.

"I'm a troll-wife," said the creature as she came to sit across from Beth. "This is a sad night for both of us, girl. I, too, came to this hill to bury a friend." The troll-wife wiped a crystal tear from her cheek. "The squirrel was very old. Still it makes me sad."

Beth stared at the troll-wife. The little woman was the color of rock in the moonlight, her hair like long strands of dried moss, her bright eyes like shining crystals. She wore a dress woven of oak leaves and tree bark.

"The squirrel and I lived together for a long time," the troll-wife said. "We often talked to your cat when he was hunting here on the hill. Smoky and I were friends. I shall miss him, too." The little woman patted Smoky's grave gently. "Sleep well, little friend. When you are rested, we shall talk together again."

"But he's dead," Beth said, her voice choked with tears.

"Child, this is Samhain. Don't you know the ancient secrets of this sacred time of year?" The troll-wife motioned for Beth to come and sit beside her. "It is true that our friends have gone into a world where we can no longer physically touch them, but the Mother has given us other ways of communicating with them. We can do this any time, but the time of Samhain is the easiest."

"I don't understand how this can be done," Beth said, "or why Samhain makes it easier."

"At this time of year," the troll-wife answered, "the walls between this world and the world of souls and spirits are very thin. If we are quiet and listen, we can hear our loved ones and they can hear us. We talk, not with spoken words, but with the heart and mind."

"Isn't that just imagination?" Beth looked down at Smoky's grave, tears once more coming into her eyes. "Like my thinking I can feel MacDougal get up on my bed at night like he used to?"

"Sometimes it is, but mostly it is not imagination, only our friends come to see us in their spirit bodies." The troll-wife reached up her hand and patted something Beth couldn't see on her shoulder. "Like my friend the raven. He is here now."

Beth looked hard and saw a thin form of hazy moonlight on the troll-wife's shoulder. "I've seen something like that at the foot of my bed where MacDougal used to sleep," she whispered. "I thought I was dreaming." She jumped as something nudged her arm. When she looked down, nothing was there.

The troll-wife smiled. "Close your eyes and think of MacDougal," she said. "He has been waiting a long time for you to see him."

Beth closed her eyes and, at once, the form of her little dog came into her mind. His tail wagged with happiness. She felt a wave of love come from him, and she sent her love back. Then she felt the dog lie down against her leg.

"Can I do this with Smoky?" Beth asked.

"Not yet," the troll-wife answered. "He needs to sleep a while and rest. Then he will come to you. This gives Smoky time to adjust to his new world and you time to grieve for him. It is not wrong to grieve, but we must not grieve forever."

"I never thought of it that way," Beth said. "It's kind of like they moved away, and we can only talk to them on the phone."

"It is this way with all creatures, not just animals." the troll-wife stood up and held out a hand to Beth. "Will you join me, human girl? Although I buried my friend squirrel this night, I still must dance and sing to all my friends and ancestors who have gone on their journey into the other world. For this is a time to honor the ancestors."

Beth joined the troll-wife in the ancient slow troll dances around the top of the little hill in the moonlight. She watched quietly while the troll-wife called out troll-words to the four directions, words Beth couldn't understand. Deep in her heart the girl felt the power of the strange words and knew they were given in honor and love by the little troll-wife.

When the troll-wife was finished with her ritual, she hugged Beth. "Go in peace, human child," she said. "And remember what I have told you about the ancient secret of Samhain."

"I will," Beth answered. "Will I ever see you again?"

"Whenever the Moon is Full, I will be here," the little troll-wife said. "And especially at Samhain."

"I wish I had something to give you." Beth hugged the little woman. "You have taught me so much." She felt the tears come to her eyes again.

"Let us exchange tears for our lost friends." The troll-wife reached up a rough finger and caught a tear as it fell from Beth's eye. The tear glistened on her finger. The troll-wife gently touched her finger to her cloak, and Beth's tear shone there like a diamond in the moonlight.

Beth reached up carefully and caught one of the troll-wife's tears as it slid down her rough cheek. It turned into a real crystal in her hand.

"Remember the secret of Samhain, and remember me," the troll-wife said softly as she disappeared into the darkness. Beth walked back down the hill, the crystal clutched in her hand. Her father was waiting for her on the porch.

"Are you all right?" her father asked as he gave Beth a hug.

"I will be," she answered. She opened her hand under the porch light and saw a perfect, tear-shaped crystal lying there.

"Did you find something?" her father asked.

"A troll-tear," Beth answered, and her father smiled. For he also knew the little troll-wife and the secret of Samhain.
