All Hallows

All Hallows

All Hallows is drawing ever so near
Shhhhhhhhh, what’s that creepy sound I hear?

That’s the wind now blowing a cooler breeze
Creaks and moans radiating from the branches of the trees

They say the veil between worlds is growing really thin
Spirits are said to cross over and glide across the land with the wind

Vampires, werewolves, monsters and witches too
I have heard that they would like to meet with you

The vampires looking for a bit of a snack
You better watch out for that shadow lingering over your back

The werewolves ready their voices now
For when the sky darkens they will begin to holler and howl

Monsters of every shape, size and kind are said to come out
Scaring the children making them scream and shout

The witches cackle and ready their brew
On the hunt for a lizard, a toad and a rat or two

Don’t worry, there’s nothing really to fear
It’s just that time of the year

When all things spooky and unknown come out to play
Causing chaos and fright all night and day!

I love this time of the year when the breeze turns cold
When candy is free and spooky stories are told.

All Hallows its soon….
What was that, that just flew past the moon!

All Hallows

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

Hallows Blessing

Author Unknown

http://witchcraft-supplies.com/Spells_Samhain.html

To those whose
feet are stilled

And those who
laugh with us no more

To you we say, our
love was with you here

And goes with you
hence

To that place
where you rest and revel.

May the dark Lord
and sweet Lady

Guide your feet
along the rocky paths

To the place where
all is fresh and green

And lover, friends
and ancestors wait

With open arms to
greet you.

Go in peace, and
with our blessing

Be rested and
return when the Lady deems it fit

With the countless
turns of the Great Wheel

We shall miss you

We shall meet you
again in the green places of Her domain.

Protect Your Property And Yourself

- Make A Parshell!

by Bridget Haggerty

The Parshell is a Hallowe'en cross which is customarily
woven on October 31st. It is placed over the front door, on the inside of the
house, and is believed to help protect against ill-luck, sickness and evil
spirits until the following All Hallow's Eve...

A new one was made the next year and the old one moved to
another part of the house. Often, the old Parshell was placed in the barn to
help protect the livestock. Custom decrees that on taking down the old cross,
one must say "Fonstarensheehy." What this means, we have no idea, but
we'll try to find out!

In the meantime, here are very simple directions for making
a Parshell:

Materials:

1. Two sticks, each about seven inches long.

2. Tape or string to tie the sticks together.

3. Straw or similar plant material; we purchased a bag of
rafia at a craft shop and this works well.

Method:

1. Fasten the two sticks together at right angles to form a
cross.

2. Begin attaching strands of straw at the center of the
cross.

3. Moving clockwise, weave the straw over one stick and
under the next, going around the cross. Stop before you get to the ends of the
sticks- a few inches of stick should be exposed. Your Parshell is now ready to
be attached over your front door, on the inside.

Caution: For your Parshell to be effective, it
must be made on October 31st - you can' make it ahead of time, nor can you use
Irish procrastination as an excuse and make it after Halloween.

Beyond making Parshells, here are some other things you can
do to protect yourself on Hallowe'en:

If there are children in the house, they should be sprinkled
with holy water; in the old days, a dead ember from the fire was put in the
cradle.

To protect against being carried off by the fairies, it was
the custom to carry a black handled knife or have a steel needle stuck in a
coat collar or sleeve. If by chance, the fairies did lead a person a stray, he
or she could confuse them by turning the coat inside out. The fairies would no
longer recognize their victim and their attentions would be diverted elsewhere.

Wild fruit, such as blackberries, must never be eaten on
Hallowe'en night or after that date because it was believed that the dreaded
evil spirit, the Púca, had spat on it.

Should you meet up with the fairies, it is said that if you
throw the dust taken from under your feet at them, they will be obliged to
release any captive human in their company.

When throwing out water, one must always shout seachain!
(beware!) or chughaibh an t-usce! (water towards you!). This warning enables
the ghosts and fairies to step aside so they won't be splashed - something that
must be avoided at all costs, lest you bring down their wrath upon you and your
loved ones.

Finally, before retiring, you must be certain to place a
portion of the evening meal outside for the fairy folk. Your hospitality will
be duly noted (as will the lack of it!)

So there you have it , a fair flahoolagh of cautionary
measures to keep in mind - or drive you out of it - this Hallow's Eve and
Samhain. Shona dhuit Samhain - Happy Halloween to you!

Pumpkin Prosperity Spell

Pumpkin Prosperity Spell

From Halloween,
Spells, Customs and Recipes by Silver RavenWolf

If you need to harvest a little money during the Samhain
season, try this spell.

You will need:

1
small (not miniature)-sized pumpkinThe
amount of money you need, written on a piece of plain white paper in green
ink (if you don't know how much you need, give a rough figure, but don't
make the request outrageous - the universe works to our needs, not
necessarily on our wants)

Ingredients:

1 bag
fresh dirt7
dimes7
pumpkin seeds from this pumpkin7
ounces of rain water or water from a stream (no tap or bottled water)PencilLodestone,
Optional

Cut the top off the pumpkin in a scallop design (to aid the
flow of money to you). Clean out the pumpkin. (Save the seed for other magical
work.)

Remember to keep 7 seeds for this spell.

Place the pumpkin in the refrigerator until Halloween Eve.
One-half hour before Halloween Eve (not after), bring out the pumpkin, the
piece of paper with the dollar amount you need written on it, the dirt, dimes, seed,
and the water. Place the paper in the bottom of the pumpkin. Pour in the dirt.
With the end of the pencil, make seven holes in the dirt in a circular pattern
(keep the holes at least one inch apart). Hold the first dime in your hand and
think about the amount of money you need. (Important, do not think negative
thoughts about the money you need, no matter how desperate you are.) Keep the
dime in your hand until it grows warm and you feel good inside. With the
pencil, push the first dime in the hole that coincides with 12 o'clock. Follow the same procedure going clockwise,
with the other six dimes. (if you happen to have a lodestone hanging around,
bury it in the middle of the dirt.) Now, starting at the 12 o'clock and going clockwise, pour 1 ounce of water into
each hole. When you are finished, hold your hands over the pumpkin and say:

"One dime for
beginnings

One dime for
drawing

One dime for
growth

One dime for
stability

One dime for
banishing negativity

One dime for luck

One dime to seal
the spell.

So mote it
be!"

Bury the pumpkin on your property the following night one
half hour before midnight (no later).

Rose Ariadne's 2011 "Dinner And Bath" With The Spirits Samhain Ritua

Posted by: "Gary Reese" hyperreal69@yahoo.com   hyperreal69

Fri Oct 28, 2011 11:15 am (PDT)

Rose Ariadne's 2011 "Dinner And Bath" With The Spirits Samhain Ritual

There are 3 phases of this ritual...

1. Preparations - this phase you'll do
tonight.

2. The "Spirit Dinner" - you'll do this
on Halloween (Monday night).

3. The "Spirit Bath" - you'll do this
immediately after Spirit Dinner, on
Monday night.

Here are the steps you'll follow...

STEP 1: Tonight, sit down at a table
with a pen, paper, and your deep thoughts.

Think about what you truly want to achieve
in your life, in the future.

What do you want your future to look like?

Who do you share your day with?

What does the view look like outside your
window when you wake up?

Where do you go every day?

What type of work do you do?

What are your hobbies?

What kind of income do you have?

Write down the answers to all of these
questions in great detail...be as specific
as possible.

STEP 2: Place the paper in an envelope.
Seal it. On the outside of the envelope
write "My Future".

STEP 3: Place the envelope to your heart
and concentrate on your desires and dreams...
everything you wrote down.

STEP 4: Keep the envelope by your bedside.
In the meantime, gather up any symbols,
figurines, charms, or drawings that represent
some of your desires. You'll use these on
your altar on Monday night.

STEP 5: Find a black stone... bury it somewhere
near your home.

STEP 6: Sometime on Monday (Halloween), get
your "costume" for the ritual ready. I like
to dress up in my best "Witchy clothes"... a
black flowing gown...dark eye-liner... lots
of jewelry...

Have fun with it...it's Halloween after all!

STEP 7: Also, on Monday Prepare some apple
cider...give it a little spice using cloves
and/or cinnamon sticks.

You'll enjoy this during the main ritual in
the evening.

STEP 8: Also on Monday, make some pumpkin
bread and/or pumpkin pie...use your favorite
recipe or find one online.

STEP 9: At 8:00pm Pacific Time, Monday October
31st (Halloween), we'll start the ritual
together.

Start by decorating your table (which will
serve as your altar) with all things that
represent your wishes and desires.

Place the envelope in the center.

STEP 10: Put on some of your favorite
"mystical" music...soft and inspiring.

STEP 11: Set out your pumpkin bread and
cider...along with some plates and cups.
(Yes, set up plates and cups at all the
empty chairs, as the spirits need to eat
too. :) They'll thank you for remembering
them by helping you achieve all that is in
your envelope.

STEP 12: You CAN invite any real friends
you have to do this ritual with you...but
if you're alone, that's just as well.

You'll be with all of us in spirit anyway. :)

STEP 13: Next, cast your Magick circle
around the entire table.

STEP 14: Pour the drinks, and serve the
cake or pie to ALL seats at the table.

STEP 15: Chant:

Fire red, summer's dead
Yet it shall return.
Clear and bright, in the night,
Burn, fire, burn!

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's a-turning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
When the fire's burning.

Fire glow, vision show
Of the heart's desire,
When the spell's chanted well
Of the witching fire.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's a-turning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
When the fire's burning.

Fire spark, when nights are dark
Makes our winter's mirth.
Red leaves fall, earth takes all,
Brings them to rebirth.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's a-turning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
When the fire's burning.

Fire fair, earth and air,
And the heaven's rain,
All blessed be, and so may we,
at Hallows-tide again.

Dance the ring, luck to bring,
When the year's a-turning.
Chant the rhyme at Hallows-time,
When the fire's burning.

(This is my favorite Samhain Chant
written by Doreen Valiente)

STEP 16: Invite the Gods/Goddesses,
ancestors that have passed away,
and any other spirits to dine with
you.

STEP 17: Now, enjoy your own little
meal. If you have real people with
you, enjoy their company...it's time
to celebrate everything we have.

If you're alone, feel free to speak
your mind about your life to the
sprits..and to me and all my students
doing the ritual with you.

STEP 18: Once the meal is done, it is
time to drink a toast to those who
have parted this world. Remember
them by name, remember them by deed.

Remember them with laughter, and
remember them with a tear. With a
final toast, thank the Gods and
spirits for a good year.

STEP 19: Set any plates and cups
full with cake or cider outside
as an offering to the spirits to
continue the feast through the
Halloween night.

STEP 20: Open the circle...it's time
to bathe.

First, set the envelope under your
pillow.

STEP 21: Draw a hot bath, and add
2 tablespoons of sea salt to the water.

STEP 22: Light a white candle and
incense of frankincense and myrrh.

STEP 23: Setup the music in your
bathroom... this music should help
relax you, and help you remember the
good times in the past.

STEP 24: As you bathe, meditate
on all those you love, who have
passed away.

Visualize yourself being cleansed
by the salt water.

Let your thoughts drift to me,
and all the other students joining
you... we're all one...we all share
the same energy.

We're all behind you, Gary.

STEP 25: End the bath, the ritual is
done.

STEP 26: In the morning, bury your
envelope NEXT to the black stone.

-------------------------

I really apologize for the length
of this newsletter...but this ritual
is VERY important.

It's simple. If you follow these
steps, you WILL realize the dreams
in your envelope during the coming
year, and even sooner.

I'm so excited to spend Halloween
with YOU during the Halloween ritual!

Remember to start it at exactly
8:00pm Pacific Time.

And this is just the tip of the
"Magick iceburg".

Progressive Witchcraft

Spirit is seen as immanent in nature with it's many faces. There is therefore an inherant polarity within nature: day/night, growth/decay, life/death, etc... In Taoism this is refered to as the ideas of Yin and Yang and in Wicca as God/Goddess. Alyhough we refer to God and Goddess in a doutheistic fashion, believing that the divine has many faces manifested as individual Diety's, be they ancestral, of nature or of human skill. ---excerpt from "Progressive Witchcraft", compiled by Janet Farrar

Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG) and Experiential Knowledge
Posted on Thu 12 Mar 2009 by Ludwig(1804 reads)
A question was asked on our message board about Unverified Personal Gnosis (UPG), and two excellent opinions on the subject were offered. With the permission of Rod Landreth and Gerd Forsta Axenthowes, here are their posts on the subject...

----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------

The Following was Written By Rod Landreth...

UPG is viewed by many as a bad thing by lorehounds. People arrive at some conclusion, act like it's true ... even though it comes from nowhere.

Say for example you had an experience that Frigga was some dominatrix biker bitch riding a silver Harley ... no one can deny your experience ... but it doesn't match up with *anything* we know about Frigga ... though Freyja (the sexy woman riding a "hog") or Holda (she welds a scourge ... but was portrayed in the Lore as an old stern woman).

Rod doesn't like the term UPG, so you will hear and see me say "Experiential."

How to deal with experiential knowledge is to not simply accept it at face value, go look it up in whatever lore sources you have (I wouldn't trust the internet *too* much many things within our faith because to many people perpetuate bad knowledge, their own UPG, and just downright silliness), and try to "verify" the experience.

For instance, and this is one I have have used often and can be found in Our Troth Vol 1, I was having some difficulty at work dealing with a boss who took credit for al that I was doing for him as his own ... this naturally upset me. In one of my weekly "time with the Deities" I specifically asked for some guidance on how best to deal with this man.

I dreamed that night of being in the office and Frigga came. She was dressed in a modern woman's power suit, except it had clear Nordic flair to it. Her hair was tied up in a tight bun on her head. She pulled out a "laptop" that was made of wood, and had runekeys on it and proceeded to show me through something a kin to a powerpoint on how to still accomplish a great job, but to also protect myself from this boss.

This was clearly UPG, or an Experience. However, the next day I spoke with many trusted heathens about this experience. I did research on Frigga and her role. I was thunderstruck by a revelation that according to the "rules" of our ancestors, the Lady of the home ran that home. Making sure everyone had food, clothes, shelter, and the finances. This is why the woman was given the keys at the time of the marriage. Frigga, as queen or chieftainess of Asgard ... ran it. Think about all that must be done to just keep the shining halls of Asgard going. In effect, running Asgard like a well-oiled machine.

Now, Rod is a creature of the modern business world. Talking to me in terms of food and clothes wouldn't have made as much sense to me. So, Frigga went to the nearest thing I could understand. Frigga presented herself as the CEO of Asgard. In fact, many times corporate owners wives have taken over "the business" when their husbands have died, same thing in many positions of politics including several presidents.

So while this experience (or UPG) is not exactly found in the Lore (like no fancy Asgardian wooden rune laptops!) it does match *very* well with the Goddess herself, her realms, and her ways.

So experiential knowledge is not *bad* it just needs to be backed up with either actual references to the Lore, or once can reasonably induce what you are claiming.

The trap so many people fall for is to try to say their UPG is somehow fact. Many modern authors, including some big names like Thorrson, Gundersson, and such, will make some sort of declaration ... not back up but because they are who they are people take as fact.

A *classic* example of this is the name of Freyja's Cats. You will find on many wicca and neo-pagan sites that there name is Treegold and Beegold. However, this is not only *not* in the Lore but Diana Paxson made it up in her book Brisingamen (In this book, Diana essentially does an Urban fantasy of the gods "reincarnating" into modern folk ... it's quite a good book, but a product of the early 80's when Asatru was just starting out). DJ Conway then in his book about "norse magic" just states with no reference that the above names are the names of the cats thinking that Diana researched this, and just parroted it with no attribution. Now, all over the web these names are being touted as Freyja's cats names.

The best way to deal with experiential knowledge when you "receive" it is first do your best to find it in the lore, then ask other trusted experienced heathens if your experience matches up with anything they have experienced. Then regardless of whatever "verification" you find ... state clearly and loudly that it is your experience (or UPG ... though Rod argues over the term because gnosis is not used in a good sense here in my opinion) and then others can either agree or disagree based on their own knowledge.

Many newbies get caught up in a trap of having some "revelation" about something based on fragmentary or even second hand knowledge. Then they try to play this of as true or factual. Many new agers, neo-pagans, and wiccans freely encourage and think such "revelation" are par for course. That doesn't fly in modern heathenry. Because heathenry is a reconstruction faith, Experience must go through a filter of what is known in the lore, archeology, anthropology, and such.

When you hear another's experience, our internal "heathen compass" should come into play (otherwise known as your bullshit meter). Does the experience described to you "fit" with what you know about heathenry, does it feel heathen? As one grows in one's heathenry this "heathen compass" or your heathen heart or gut will get more an more fine tuned. Mine's pretty good and many of you new folk on this forum suffer from UPG-itis that borders on laughable to me. However, if it's just a new person growing ... I won't slam them ... to hard. If its someone going *way* off track I'll more strongly step in.

So Rod's general advice to the newbie is to turn off your "speculator" or "experiential" views until you get a solid and rigorous understanding of basic lore. Just because you read it on wikipedia and it seems to have this 'revelation' attached to it ... does not make it valid or even make sense.

If you have one of these experiences, and are unsure whether you should accept the experience as valid, *after you go look up everything you know in your trusted resources (Lore, secondary sources), then tell the more knowledgeable heathen your experience, stating clearly that it *is* an experience (not some cockamamie idea you pulled out of your ass based on a neo-pagan's web site) and see what they say.

Last bit of warning, an experience may still be valid but *not* what you think it means. Just because it's all about ravens ... does not automatically mean it's Odin. One has to look at context, and what actually occurs. Just because it is an experience, that doesn't mean you take your reasoning cap off. Ask yourself the 5 W's and How. Write the experience down, put it aside (and don't think about about or especially obsess about it), and read it again a few days later.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes it's pregnant with meaning depending on the context of the experience. Fully understanding an experience is as much an Art as it is full of faith and an affirmation of belief.

The Following was Written By Gerd Forsta Axenthowes...

I, apparently like Rod, have never liked this term, or at least not liked the wide scope it has been given today. Any term that is used by people to refer to everything from a reasonable interpretation of evidence leading to a certain unstated but arguably implicit conclusion about the lore to the entirely unreasonable, likely delusional, alleged revelations of pseudo-mystics, has far too wide a scope to be useful.

For example, although people apparently want to claim that our idea of what the valknut is is insufficiently based in lore to be certain, in fact it comes from a fairly straightforward series of logical deduction beginning from relatively clear evidence. In Norwegian, the symbol is called "Valknuter." This was not simply an invention of imaginative neo-heathens but something that comes from Scandinavian folk-culture, despite what many heathens seem to think. Where we find them in a heathen context is primarily in Gotland, on picture stones. These picture stones do not just show the Valknut alone, but in context, and that context is in every instance Odinic. For instance, a Valknut is shown next to a man hanging from a tree, with ravens flying through the air and another man apaprently being put in a burial mound (or something - it is a little unclear). Valknuts also appear on the Tängelgarda stone next to a horsed warrior, thought to be Odin, who is
amidst other warriors carrying rings. Given the context of the symbol where it appears in context and the Norwegian name for the symbol, it is hardly a logical stretch to associate the symbol with Odin and with the idea of a warrior's death, or with the idea of Odinic ecstasy. This does not require any special intuition or any direct contact with the divine (which, after all, is what gnosis means in most religious contexts). Thus, I find it strange that anyone would associate this with "personal gnosis."

On the other hand, there certainly are people who have unverified personal gnosis, usually in my opinion false gnosis, representing not direct, immediate knowledge of the divine as gnosis is supposed to be but direct, immediate knowledge of one's own unbalanced psyche. Thus, we occasionally run across people who claim some god or another as their best friend/spouse/whatever and who seem to think they are in constant, direct conversation with said god. Now, I would think that if I were in direct conversation with a god in the way these people are, I would be privy to the greatest, darkest secrets in the universe. However, what the gods seem to reveal to these people is nothing particularly portentious. Instead, I have heard such things as that Odin prefers braided hair to straight hair on women and that when one of these people took the old man to see a movie, he cried because he knew what it meant to lose a son. This sort of thing I am fairly happy to
call unverified personal gnosis, and I am happy to write it off as irrelevant to my, or any other sane person's, religious practice.

Somewhere between these two sorts of things is a wide range of what I take to be non-delusional understanding. There are a number of things, for instance, that theodsmen do in and after blot, including reading certain kinds of omens to verify that the blot was accepted. I will not say exactly what we do, since we prefer to keep this kind of thing to ourselves, but I will say that some of it is based in folklore, some of it based in ancient lore, and some of it has resulted from a long period (30 some years) of experience by theodsmen doing this kind of thing and has come to be the beginning of a tradition passed down in our various priestly guilds. This knowledge might be written off by some superficial thinkers as UPG, but really it is not for a couple of reasons. For instance, instead of being personal it is communal. Secondly, it is verified. This latter part is possible because of its basis in lore and experience.

Seidh, when it involves communication with a deity (which should I think be rarer than people pretend it is today), might be thought of as UPG, but again there are elements of lore involved. There are also verifiable facts in many instances, and truly in almost every instance where the seidh was worthy of being done in the first place. Arguably, in most instances where such a thing is worth doing, it is also going to be communal rather than personal. but since it is "funneled" so to speak through a single person it is arguable that the basis is personal.

Most seidh, spa, runic divination, etc. will not involve direct interaction with a divinity, and thus is probably not properly referred to as gnosis of any kind.

There is a conception going around that "all lore began as someone's UPG." I hope it will be clear, with some thought, why I take that to be completely false. Lore worth the name is communal. Similarly with myth. Myth was not made up whole cloth by some fiction writer and people just hapened to like it. Myth seems to preexist all fiction writers and form a framework around which good storytellers weave their tales. This is true of everyone from Homer and Hesiod to Snorri and Saxo to Richard Wagner.

Ghosts Are Where You Find Them
This article was written by Marcus F. Griffin
posted under Ghosts
My wife and I recently moved to Fort Collins, Colorado from northern Indiana, where we had lived for the last fifteen years. In moving we had to leave behind many things, not the least of which were our friends and family, the jobs we worked, and the home that had previously sheltered no less than six generations of our family. But we also had to leave behind the local ghosts we had come to know and love over the years.
The Patton Cemetery in La Porte, Indiana Munchkinland in Eau Claire, Michigan were two of our favorites haunted locales to visit, with their restless spirits and ghost children, respectively. But now these haunted grounds and the ghosts that prowl them are over one thousand miles away from us and can only be revisited through photographs and memories. In many ways, leaving the ghosts of our past behind left a void in our lives as large as the void left by the absence of our friends and family. After only one short week in our new home we began wondering how long it would take us to encounter the ghosts of Colorado. At the time we had no way of knowing that the ghosts of the West would come looking for us.
My wife and fellow paranormal investigator, Becca, had just begun her new job as human resources manager for a company in Fort Collins when she started experiencing strange, unexplainable events occurring in and around her office. These were events that she immediately recognized as potentially being paranormal in origin. The door to her office started closing by itself with no rational explanation. In fact, upon inspection, she discovered that the door was weighted in such a way that caused the door to remain open until it was intentionally closed with a hefty push. She would also often hear the sounds of footfall in the hallway leading up to her office, but upon stepping into the hallway for a look, no one was there. When she mentioned these strange events to her coworkers they all got big smiles on their faces and told her, "Oh, that’s nothing to worry about. That’s just Otis coming to pay you a visit."
"Otis?" She asked, "Who the heck is Otis?"
As it turned out, according to her coworkers, "Otis" was the ghost of a custodian that had died in the building many years earlier while working the graveyard shift. Otis was believed to be a poltergeist due to his playful nature and the fact that he liked to move things around and make loud, jarring noises. The word poltergeist (German in origin) literally translates as "noisy ghost." Becca’s coworkers also informed her that all of the former female security guards that had been hired to watch over the building at night had quit their jobs mid-shift, vowing never to return due to the fact that the building was haunted. Becca was further informed that the company would no longer hire female security guards due to this very reason. Her boss later confirmed the information about the dead custodian and the female security guards as being accurate. Upon hearing news of this nearby haunting I asked my wife about the possibility of us being allowed inside
the building after hours to perform a formal investigation. She replied that she had already made such an inquiry, and informed me that her supervisors were open to the idea. She also told me that her supervisors were intrigued by what evidence a team of professional ghost hunters might turn up. This was good news, but it also presented us with a serious problemâ€"we were short half a team.
Another thing my wife and I had to leave behind when we moved from Indiana to the front range of Colorado were our good friends and fellow investigators Sam and Amber. Sam, Amber, Becca, and myself had formerly made up a team of paranormal investigators known as WISP (Witches in Search of the Paranormal). WISP had previously been involved in everything from investigating local hauntings in northern Indiana and Lower Michigan to the search for the ghost of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and pretty much everything in-between. We had even appeared in documentary films and on broadcast TV. The WISP team had spent many years together honing our metaphysical, scientific, and deductive skills as they pertain to ghost hunting and otherworldly entities. But now a great distance separated two of the four members of WISP and performing investigations on a regular basis would be all but impossible. So, for the time being at least,
the dearly departed Otis has little to fear from us.
Sure, Becca and I could hunt for the ghost of Otis on our own, and in the end it may very well come down to us doing just that. But we learned a very long time ago that a group of ghost hunters consisting of four or more members stands a much better chance of conducting a thorough investigation that yields good and useful evidence than one or two individuals can muster on their own. But for WISP, finding new local members to fill the roster presents an entirely different set of problems than most ghost hunting teams typically face. WISP incorporates many scientific approaches to collect and examine evidence of paranormal activity, but we also incorporate various advanced metaphysical approaches in our investigative techniques. Finding new members that possess extensive experience in advanced metaphysics (i.e. Witchcraft) and modern scientific ghost hunting techniques could prove both exhaustive and time consuming. So for the meantime, at least, it
appears that my wife and I will be spending a good deal of our free time and investigative skills hunting for new team members rather than ghosts. But this delay also opens up the opportunity for us to learn more about the restless spirits and haunted history of the town in which we now live. Halloween is fast approaching, and after doing an extensive Google search we discovered that Fort Collins has no shortage of local legends, ghost tours, and graveyard walks to study and participate in. Chances are your own city or town offers similar events. If you’re interested in ghosts and the paranormal, similar events happening in your neck of the woods might be an excellent opportunity for you to have a bit of fun and learn about local ghosts and hauntings. You might even meet some like-minded people and start up your own ghost-hunting group. You never know. Stranger things have happened. Just ask Otis!

A Black Candle Spell
Friday

Color of the day: Coral
Incense of the day: Thyme

Now the Earth retreats into darkness as we enter the dark half of the year. The darkness has a special energy of its own which aids in magical work. This spell draws upon the subtle energies found in darkness, which propel magic into the unseen realm more quickly. After sunset, preferably well after dark, cast a circle or say a protective prayer. Walk clockwise around your space as you carry a black candle, but do not light it. Speak Words of Power and announce your desire, whatever it might be. Rub the candle to charge it. Feel your magic being absorbed by the candle. As you near the end of your spell, put the candle down in a safe place and light it. The flame is now releasing your need into the cosmos. Let the candle burn out. Your wish will be fulfilled. So mote it be.

Here is a little something that I sent out to some groups a few weeks ago as undisclosed recipients. If this is a repeat, I appologize. With the New Dark Moon yesterday, I went to a group to do a guided meditation, then came home and did a banishing of negative things in my life. I wrote the items to be banished in doves blood ink that has nine drops of my own blood in it, I cast a circle (kind of informally called the quarters) and drew Hecate down. I lit a black Goddess candle when I felt her and asked for these things to leave my life. Ithen burned the parchment completely an put it into a bowl with libation (cakes and ale). Then stated this poem that I authored. Just thought I would share. I feel like a weight was taken off of me and raised so much energy that I was unable to sleep last night. HEEHEEHEE. Anyway, I consider the New or Full Moon previous to Samhain to be the dawn of the new year....so
HAPPY NEW YEAR FELLOW PAGANS !!

Allegiance

Hecate, My Goddess, I hold You dear,
Bringer of Death, Destruction, and Fear.
You are not only Maiden, but Mother and Crone,
The Three of You make Me feel not alone.
I do not understand why they fear you so,
for once You turn Dark, You again start to glow.
Your face, I can see in the Moon as It shines,
together we're one, we are so entwined!
Teller of secrets, bringer of Death;
for You ther seems that there is no real rest.
You shape and you mold Me 'cause I asked You to;
and all I have to do is pay allegiance to You!
You take my life's obstacles out of the way;
with Destruction and Death, oh that's what they say.
Hecate, My Goddess, come into Me;
Together as One, together as Three!
So Mote it Be, Blessed Be
