Greek Poet Theocritus, Idyll

Hail, Hecate! Underworld Goddess,
you make dogs tremble when you
walk through cemeteries, you make
the blood of the dead run black.
Hail, Hecate! Assist me
in making this potion. Make it
as strong as Circe's, as strong as Medea's,
as strong as that little blonde Perimede's.
~Greek Poet Theocritus, Idyll
The
witches decorating homes and offices during this season are caricatures
of the crone, the elder woman who represents the third part of the
sacred family trinity. In Greek times, the triad of maiden-mother-crone
was composed of the spring maiden Goddess Persephone, also known as Kore
or Proserpina; the corn mother Demeter; and the dark Goddess Hecate,
who walked through the highways with her baying hounds, making magick
and mischief.
She was honored with offerings placed at crossroads
where three roads met, for which the Romans called her Trivia. Hecate
suppers were also held at the dark of the moon, when she was thought to
walk the world. Hers was the wisdom that comes in darkness, in pain, in
suffering, in dreams. Thus her wisdom is available to all, though few
embrace it.

Today's Goddess: Henwen Turning Devil's Boulder (England)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Today's Goddess:Henwen
Turning Devil's Boulder (England)
Themes: Peace, Prosperity, Fertility, Harvest
Symbols: Sow, Grain, Honey, Eagle, Wolf
About
Henwen: Henwen, the fertile British Goddess appears in the form of a
pregnant sow who births abundance in our lives. In mythology, she
wandered the countryside mothering grains, bees, eagles, and wolves as
she traveled. Henwen also presides over all physical and magical
agricultural efforts.
.
To Do Today: In Devon village, England, there lies an old stone called, Devil's Boulder. Legend says that during a battle,
Satan
flung this stone into the village. To keep peace and prosperity in the
tow and ensure continued good harvests, the stone must be turned
annually. For us, this might translate into an annual furniture
rearrangement, leaving one piece of grain in each piece to invoke
Henwen's ongoing providence for your home.
To partake of Henwen's abundance and encourage your own nurturing nature, try eating whole grain toast for breakfast with
honey
(which comes from Goddess's bees!) Or enjoy a BLT for lunch and pork
roast for dinner, Since the sow is Henwen's sacred animal, eating its
meat symbolically allows you to "take in" this Goddess's essence.
If
you have indoor plants ask Henwen to keep them green and growing by
putting a piece of grain or a small dab of honey in each pot. This will
become part of the soil, nourishing the plant with Henwen's power.
