I was raised in a christian household, but my 2 favorite memories from this time of year are the nativity and the ornaments. My mom had amassed a variety of nativity sets, and my brother and I took great joy in mixing, matching and re-arranging the nativity scene to our liking. There were shepards, sheep, camels, wise men, a cow, a pig, shepardesses, wise men, and assorted Mary and Joseph figures. We had a side table that was a record player and radio we cleared off every year for this. (About the size of a coffee table long, but standing as high as your waist). We would take turns re-arranging *all* the figurines all day long. Mom found it funny and exasperating. My other favorite memory has to do with ornaments for the tree. The first christmas after Mom got divorced, she did not have much money to get a tree or ornaments and just a little for presents. So, she got out her construction paper, scissors, markers, glue, and glitter, and proceded to help my brother and I make ornaments and a paper chain for the tabletop tree her friend gave her. Every year after that, we all bought or made *one* ornament for the tree. Everyone living in the house did this, and if we had a SO, they got to join in too. Then, we would work together to decorate the tree, usually christmas eve morning. The lights gor checked then strung, then some garland. Finally, the ornaments tub (a 10 gallon plastic tote) was dragged out and the fun began. Where to put the massive amount of ornaments that had collected over the years! Finally, what to top the tree with.... Some years a star, some years an angel, one year a sants hat! (Yes, we had a sense of humor even as teenagers.) funny drinks were made and consumed during this time, and even now, 10 years later, it is still one of my favorite memories. *Miss you now and always Mommy.* Mommy has been gone for several years now, but this time of year is still special because she loved to sit up at night and watch the lights blink on the tree. Sometimes, when i could not sleep, i'd join her, and eventually, we'd have a cup of chamomile tea, and a late night talk about what was bugging me. Now that we're all grown up, my friends and family send each other a small gift to go on the tree, usually homemade, no matter how big or small the tree.

Friday Finds An Idea!
Friday December 9, 2011
9:00 am - 10:00 am
(This event repeats every week.)

Notes:
As we know the goal is to live our lives magically in the moment every day in the now and while it would be nice to go and buy all the cool witchy stuff that is out there...their is so much in every day objects that we can use around the home.
So here is what I suggest...Post up an every day object once a week and let the creative juices flow and post up what we would or could possibly use it for magically.
I thought it would be kinda cool and inspiring...whatcha think..

Amethyst Dreams

As the darkness falls this cold December night
The moon grows full with it's brilliance ever so bright.

Amethyst dreams begin rolling through my head
As I find comfort in the warmth of my bed.

Crystalline fragments bathed in a purple hue
Conjuring dreams of something new.

Healing the soul by way of my dreams, one by one
Keeping my mind sober and wise, til the night is done.

Focused on tonight's visions as the moonlight beams
I am empowered by these amethyst dreams.

I travel across spiritual realms of many throughout the night
And balance upon sparkling beams of amethyst light.

Where will these lucid dreams bathed in purple take me next?
Only Spirit knows, but I'm not worried nor vexed.

Inner peace has filled my mind, body and soul
I'm ready for where ever these visions wish me to go.

Amethyst dreams guiding us through the long, cold, wintery night
Lending us protection and power til the dark becomes new light.

Amethyst Dreams

Welcome Full Cold Long Nights Moon, We Welcome and Honor your Presen

Welcome Full Cold Long Nights Moon, We Welcome and Honor your Presents tonight

Welcome Full Cold Long Nights Moon, We Welcome and Honor your Presents tonight...the Full Moon energy is used banishing unwanted influences in your life, protection magick, and divination.

Full Moon magick can be conjured for seven days: the three days prior to the Full Moon, the night of the Full Moon itself, and three days after the Full Moon.

DECEMBER:  Cold Moon, Oak Moon, Long Night's Moon, or Winter Moon, this is a time for acknowledging death and rebirth, darkness, your spiritual journey, and all those in need on planet Earth.

The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon - December During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule.

The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. The midwinter full Moon has a high trajectory across the sky because it is opposite a low Sun.

Different astrological traditions strongly disagree about this day. The Vedic tradition doesn't recommend starting anything, especially if it concerns getting income, and advises you not to travel. On the contrary, Globa considers this day appropriate for any important business, and the European tradition treats it as generally happy.

Saturday, December 10, 2011
Names Given to the Moon by Other Cultures:

    Colonial American: Christmas Moon
    Chinese: Bitter Moon
    American Indian (Cherokee): Snow Moon
    American Indian (Choctaw): Peach Moon
American Indian (Dakotah Sioux): Twelfth Moon
    Celtic: Cold Moon
    English Medieval: Oak Moon
    Neo Pagan: Long Night Moon

This is the month when the winter cold fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark. This full Moon is also called the Long Nights Moon by some Native American tribes.

During this month the winter cold fastens its grip, and nights are at their longest and darkest. It is also sometimes called the Moon before Yule. The term Long Night Moon is a doubly appropriate name because the midwinter night is indeed long, and because the Moon is above the horizon for a long time. Join us tonight and Light a White Candle in the Presence of our Mother Moon, Before you light the candle, take a small straight pin and carve your intents in the candles then

anointment you candle in your favorite Full Moon Oil, This is a good night to banish all the unwanted influences in your life, protection magick, and divination, cleanse all your ritual tools and charge up those stones, the night is full of wonderous energy the moon gives to us all, take a moment also to walk outside with your candles lit and show it to the moon, close your eyes and again visualize your intent, take  as long as you need and either leave the candle outside to burn (in a save place away from anything flammable) or take it back inside and sit in front of it and watch it burn, snuff when your finished or let it burn out but please be safe and not leave it burn alone.  Have a Wondrous Blessed Full Moon!

Babylonian Description Of The Underworld

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Dec 9, 2011 8:29 pm (PST)

Under the mountains is a house.
A road runs down to it. The mountain hides it.
No one knows how to reach it.
There evil people are bound with ropes
and held in narrow spaces. No one escapes
from this house, but the just need not fear it.
This is the house of the setting sun.
This is the house on whose foundation
the sunrise mountains rise.
This is the house of the monster
with gaping jaws and the raging lion-guards.
And here also are the gardens of the goddess.
~Babylonian Description Of The Underworld

Every religion has an ethical standard, a set of rules on which people's behaviors is judged. And every
religion, including the religions of the goddess, speaks of some kind of punishment for wrongdoing. Yet,
when we look around, how often we see selfish and uncaring people richly rewarded for their actions!
There is the victimizing boss who moves up the corporate ladder. There is the selfish lover who receives
pleasure while denying it. There is the uncaring parent who enjoys life at the expense of children. Why
are these people not punished?

This problem of evil is one of the great philosophical and religious questions humanity faces. We face it time
after time, generation after generation, culture after culture. And no definite answer is ever reached. In the
religious of the goddess, we find images of punishment of evildoers, as well as rules for living in harmony
with her wishes. If we cannot settle the problem of evil, we can try to activate the good within ourselves.

REINDEER

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Dec 9, 2011 8:31 pm (PST)

REINDEER

Santa's reindeer most probably evolved from Herne, the Celtic Horned
God. Eight reindeer pull Santa's sleigh, representative of the eight
solar Sabbats. In British lore, the stag is one of the five oldest and
wisest animals in the world, embodying dignity, power and integrity.
From their late Autumn dramatic rutting displays, stags represented
strength, sexuality and fertility. As evidenced by multiple prehistoric
excavations of stag antler ritual costumes, the wearing of stag antlers
in folk dance recreated the sacred male shaman figure called Lord of the
Wild Hunt, Cernunnos, or Herne the Hunter, among others--he who travels
between worlds, escorting animal spirits to the afterlife and sparking
wisdom and fertility in this world. Likewise, the stag's branching
antlers echo the growth of vegetation. In America, the stag represents
male ideals: the ability to "walk one's talk," and powerfully,
peacefully blend stewardship and care of the tribe with sexual and
spiritual integrity.

In Northern European myth, the Mother Goddess lives in a cave, gives
birth to the sun child, and can shape shift into a white hind, or doe.
Therefore, the white hind was magical, to be protected and never hunted.
In myth, graceful running women of the forest--who were actually magical
white hinds--brought instant old age or death to hunters who chased
them.

To the Celts, all deer were especially symbolic of nurturing, gentle and
loving femaleness. White deer hide was used to make tribal women's
clothing. White deer called "faery cattle" were commonly believed to
offer milk to fairies. In Britain amongst the Druids, some men
experienced life-transforming epiphanies from spiritual visions or
visitations by white hinds, balancing and healing their inner feminine
energy. In Europe white hinds truly exist, and are many shades of warm
white cream-colours, with pale lashes--otherworldly in their peaceful
and modest behaviour. To many Native American tribes, deer are models of
the graceful and patient mother who exhibits unconditional love and
healthy, integrated female energy.

Goddess  Of The Day  :  SKADI Blowing the Midwinter Horn (Netherland

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Fri Dec 9, 2011 8:32 pm (PST)

Goddess  Of The Day : SKADI

Blowing the Midwinter Horn (Netherlands)

Themes: Protection; Banishing; Communication; Insight; Winter
Symbols: Snow; Wind (cold or northerly); White Crystals or Clothing

About Skadi: In Northern tradition, Skadi is the spirit of the north wind, who is blowing powerfully
over the earth now. She is the goddess of winter and wears white fur, crystal armor, and a bow and arrow for hunting.
Hers is the power of communication - of announcing new insights and perceptions as they awaken within.

To Do Today: In this festival, which dates back two thousand years, farmers around the country take out
Birchwood horns today and blow them to scare away evil influences and announce Skadi's presence. To
encourage her communicative powers in your own life, stand outside and breathe deeply of a cool, northerly
wind today, letting the air empower your speech. Or, carry a pumice stone wrapped in white cloth with you
throughout the day (if you can't find one, cut out a white paper snowflake instead and write Skadi's name on it).
This keeps the goddess with you in all your discourse.

At home, find a horn (perhaps a kazoo or noisemaker). Follow the Dutch custom of blowing this once in all
four cardinal directions to send protection throughout your living space. Afterward put four white decorations
(candles, stones) close to the directional points. This welcomes Skadi's insight and open discussions therein.

DailyOM: Women's Work

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

DailyOM - Tending the Hearth
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

December 9, 2011
Women's Work
Tending the Hearth
The importance of tending the hearth that nurtures all who bask in its warmth is a beautiful thing.

In the recent past, the term women's work has come to have a derogatory connotation. Women's work encompasses all the domestic chores that have historically been associated only with womenâ€"cooking, cleaning, and raising children. Whenever a person is limited to only certain kinds of work in a society, there is a need to break free from that work in order to inhabit a place of choice. However, when we choose to do women's work because we enjoy it, there is nothing degrading about it. There is an honor to it, and when done alone or in a group this work can be truly meaningful and fulfilling because the home is the foundation of security for all who live in it. The importance of tending the hearth that nurtures all who bask in its warmth cannot be overstated.

In addition to being essential to the functioning of the world, women's work offers creative fulfillment, intimate interaction, and personal satisfaction. The more we become aware of the significance of this realm of labor, the more fulfilling it will be to those who do the work and those who benefit from it. A well-set table and a delicious, healthy meal can heal us on multiple levels. Clean, crisp sheets on a bed allow us to enter a deep slumber, inspiring a sense of safety and trust. Our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health all rest upon the smooth functioning of our homes.

The gift of women's work, which still often comes from the hands of women, now also comes from fathers, husbands, and hired help. Whatever the source, our sincere gratitude upon receiving these treasures reminds us of the profound value of what is traditionally known as women's work. The more we acknowledge the tremendous importance of this work, the more we are able to do it with a sense of pride, never feeling for a moment that our efforts are less significant or meaningful than those working outside the homeâ€"on the contrary, it is this work that makes all other work possible.
