Friday Finds An Idea!
Friday December 16, 2011
9:00 am - 10:00 am
(This event repeats every week.)
Notes:
As we know the goal is to live our lives magically in the moment every day in the now and while it would be nice to go and buy all the cool witchy stuff that is out there...their is so much in every day objects that we can use around the home.
So here is what I suggest...Post up an every day object once a week and let the creative juices flow and post up what we would or could possibly use it for magically.
I thought it would be kinda cool and inspiring...whatcha think..
Namaste'

My Christmas Wish
Posted by: "Holly Stokes" hollylstokes@gmail.com hollyberrysheart
Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:13 am (PST)
My wishes don't cost money .. only a little of your consideration and time
Please bear with me while I turn my wishes into a Christmas rhyme
I wish for everyone to know what it's like to feel loved and blessed
and I wish for for you to have less worries and a whole lot less stress
I wish for you to know the magic that surrounds us every day
and I wish for fewer obstacles to get in your way
I wish for you that the years be kind
and I wish for many happy moments to fill your heart and mind
I wish for you to know a love that is everlasting and true
and I wish for angel blessings to always follow you
I wish for you to know a kiss and a hug can cure all things
and I wish you happy smiles every time you see butterfly wings
I wish for all your dreams become reality
and I wish you to know that within you is the ability
May the spirit fill you.. not only now but every day
These are my Christmas wishes for you and they are on their way
I placed them carefully upon butterfly wings
So that they'll be carried to the heavens as the bluebird sings
Merry Christmas

DailyOM: Spider Energy

DailyOM - Weaving Your Life
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:
December 16, 2011
Spider Energy
Weaving Your Life
The feminine energy of spiders reminds us that we have the ability to weave our lives into strong beautiful works of art.
We may not realize that the sight of a spider's web glistening in the sun, the beads of morning dew catching the light to shine like diamonds on an intricate necklace, may carry a message for us. Their beauty belies their strength because though they are spun from thin strands of silk, they can hold the weight of the dew and capture nourishment in their nets as well. This paints an accurate picture of the traits of the weaver, the spider. Their feminine energy reminds us that we have the ability to weave our lives into strong, useful, and beautiful works of art. Though people may have an instinctive fear response to spiders, we can look beyond the physical instinct to understand the spiritual message they may be bringing us.
Among the various Native American traditions, spider medicine has been known to represent creativity. Her eight legs represent the four winds of change and the four directions on the medicine wheel, while her body is in the shape of the infinity symbol, which represents infinite possibilities. Spider was said to have woven the alphabet, creating the means for people to communicate and record their history through language. Just like the Greek myth of the Fates, three women who weave the tapestry of life, spiders are said to weave the creative forces that bring forth the intricately symmetrical patterns of our lives.
So if a spider has wandered into your line of sight, she may be bringing you one of several messages. She could be reminding you of the infinite possibilities you can draw from to create your life. Perhaps her message is to check your email or "the Web" to see if communication you sent has captured something. You might even want to refer to old journals to look for patterns recorded in your personal history. As spider weaves her web, you too can weave your reality and your future. Her medicine could be reminding you that as the creator of your life you need to have the courage to reach out and create your own intricately beautiful and strong tomorrows. If you don't pay attention, spider may feel the need to bite you to get your attention. If this happens, investigate what that part of the body represents to gain further information about your message from spider medicine.

Get Ready for Yule!
Day 5: Family and Friends
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
Take time at Yule to enjoy family and friends.

Even though Yule is a time to celebrate the return of the sun, for many Pagan and Wiccan families, it's also a time of gift-giving. Let's look at some ideas for sharing the season with family and friends -- we'll talk about ten great gifts you can give your Pagan and Wiccan friends, ways to celebrate Yule with children, and books that any Pagan family will want to have on hand at the winter solstice.
Ten Great Gifts for Pagans and Wiccans
Got another Pagan or Wiccan on your shopping list, but not sure what to give them? Don't worry -- this list will help you get some ideas, and who knows... you might see something you want for yourself! Read More
Ten Magical Gifts to Make
Nothing says lovin' like a gift from the coven. If you've got friends and family members who are as magically inclined as you are, here are some great ideas for handmade gifts you can put together at Yule! Read More
Great Books to Read at Yule
Looking for some reading material for those cold winter nights? Curl up in front of the fire with your family and one of these Yule-themed books. If you're looking for a list of books to give as gifts to the Pagan children in your life, check out the Pagan Kids Book List.
Make Your Own Yule Greeting Cards
It's hard to find Yule greeting cards commercially, and often when you do locate one you like, they can be expensive. Because there's not a huge market for Pagan or Wiccan greeting cards, sometimes it's just easier to make your own. With a little imagination -- and a couple of kids to help out if possible -- it's really easy to make stylish Yule cards that your friends will love. Get a jump on the holidays, and start working on your cards now! Read More
Celebrating Yule with Children
What does the winter solstice season mean to you and your family? Are you trying to avoid the commercialism of the holidays and just focus on your family instead? Today we're going to look at some great ways you can keep the spirit of Yule alive with your kids, and help them learn your Pagan values while still having a fun holiday... Read More
Go Out a-Wassailing
The tradition of wassailing (pronounced to rhyme with fossil-ing)is hardly a new one. In centuries past, wassailers went from door to door, singing and drinking to the health of their neighbors. If you think your family or friends might enjoy starting up a new, musical tradition, why not gather them together to go out a-wassailing for Yule? Read More
Pagan Yule Songs
A reader writes in asking, "I've been looking for some songs I can sing to the gods of my tradition at the winter holidays. I saw a few Christmas carols where someone had substituted "Goddess" for references to God and Jesus. Would these be good Pagan songs to sing at my Yule ceremony?" Let's talk about Yule songs -- and you can tell us which ones you like the best too: My Favorite Yule Songs
Tomorrow: Get Crafty for Yule
Tomorrow, we'll look at some great Yule crafts you can put together, including hand-made ornaments, magical incense and potpourri, and the traditional Yule log.

Get Ready for Yule!
Day 4: Coping With the Season
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
Don't let the stress of the season ruin your Yule!
© Getty Images
Yule is supposed to be a time of great joy and celebration, but let's face it -- sometimes, it's just the opposite. We tend to get frustrated with the whole experience of shopping, spending money, dealing with family members... and it can turn a happy time into a period of anger and anxiety. Today, let's look at some ways you can help keep that negativity in check, and instead have a happy and healthy Yule season.
Have a Low-Stress Yule
It's time to take a moment and think about yourself at the holidays. Remember the joy you felt at this time of year when you were a child? You can recapture that if you learn to keep your stress levels manageable. Here are some tips on how to help relieve holiday stress -- as well as how to know you're on the verge of burnout! Read More
Celebrate Yule on a Budget
With the economy the way it is, it's no surprise that one of the biggest worries people have at Yule is about their finances. Believe it or not, if you learn to focus on the meaning of the season rather than the material things you get (or give!), it becomes a lot easier to manage your money at Yule. Here are some ideas on how to have a happy Yule season without breaking your bank account... Read More
Your Non-Pagan Family
In some families, the holiday get-together is something we look forward to. In fact, it may be the only time you even see some members of your family. However, if you're a Pagan or Wiccan, and the rest of them aren't, there are times when the winter holidays can be a bit awkward. So what can you do to make the season's celebrations a bit more harmonious? Read More
I'm Pagan - Can I Still Have a Holiday Tree?
A reader writes in, "I really want to celebrate Yule as a Pagan, but my kids have gotten to expect a Christmas tree each year. Can I have one?" Find out the answer, and get some tips on how to decorate your home in a way that celebrates the season and keeps your family's traditions alive! Read More
Keeping Your Weight Under Control at Yule
Yule is a season of celebration for many Wiccans and Pagans, and that means lots of events to attend, and lots of food to eat. Next thing you know, it's January and you've got to spend your holiday bonus check on pants that are sizes bigger. Here are some common-sense ideas on how to keep those pounds off during the Yule season -- despite all the temptation! Read More
Tommorow: Family and Friends
In tomorrow's lesson, we'll look at some great ways to celebrate the season with family and friends. We'll talk about gifts for Pagans and Wiccans -- including some magical ones to make -- as well Yule carols, Wassailing, and how to incorporate your children into your Pagan belief system at Yule.

Dickensian Abundance Spell
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:39 pm (PST)
Dickensian Abundance Spell
Incense of the day: MuskÂ
.
Charles Dickensâs
classic tale A Christmas Carol is a favorite of the season. The three
spirits who visit Ebenezer Scrooge are relevant to our lives now as
well. What we put out comes back at least three times. In this season,
where the idea of plenty is in sharp contrast to the paucity of those
less fortunate, it is our responsibility to answer to the spirits of the season. To answer the Ghost of Christmas Past, contact someone with
whom you lost touch over the years. It could be an old friend, a
relative, or a former teacher. Send them a card or letter, with
photographs, to catch up on missed time. If it is someone with whom you
have quarreled, try to work it out and make a fresh start. To answer the Ghost of Christmas Present, take a bag or basket of food to your local
food bank, so that those without will be assured a good meal during this holiday season. Volunteer for a few hours if you can. Bake a plum
pudding for your friends, hiding a coin inside for luck (be sure to warn them, so no one breaks a tooth). Bake cookies, and take them in to
work. Offer to shop for a sick or elderly neighbor. To answer the Ghost
of Christmas Future, make a contribution to a childrenâs charity. Better yet, find a way to volunteer some time over the next few months. Our
children are the future. May the joy of the season be upon you.Â

Saturnalia
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Fri Dec 16, 2011 8:47 pm (PST)
Saturnalia.
The Roman festival of Saturnalia was celebrated for seven days beginning on December 17th. It honored the
corn-god Saturn and his consort, Ops, the goddess of plenty. Normal activities were suspended during this
time period. No wars were fought. No business was conducted. Schools and courts were closed. People spent
their time gambling and feasting. Roles were reversed with masters waiting on their servants. Everyone was free
to say exactly what they pleased without fear of the consequences, so this was a time for great ventilation of
feelings and political satire. For an ancient account of this day, and the Roman calendar in general, Blackburn
and Holford-Strevens recommend reading Macrobius who describes an imaginary debate among pagan intellectuals
taking place on Saturnalia, possibly in 383. For the significance of this time period, see Time out of Time.
A Lord of Misrule was often elected to mock the role of authority and direct his followers in ribald and humorous
activities. Some folklorists (Frazer and Graves) believe he was a stand-in for the King, who was sacrificed at the
end of the time period in the King's place but during his brief reign of thirty days, he assumed the king's prerogatives,
dressing in royal robes, doing anything he wanted and commanding obedience.
The Greek God equivalent to Saturn, is Cronus. Saturn carries a sickle, like the Grim Reaper. Cronos, who ate
his own children rather than let them surpass him, gives his name to terms like chronological. Both are Time-Gods,
who bring death and limitation and may fight to preserve their reign, even though they know it is time for them to be
replaced with new life, just as the old year must die to give way to the new, a struggle depicted in many winter
solstice customs (like Mummers Plays and the pastorelas.People gave gifts to each other, usually small items, like candles,
terra cotta dolls, sprigs of holly, which symbolized wishes for the new year.
