This is what happens when the public pays half attention. A Perfectly good idea that has a poison pill folded into it becomes law, and we wind up with more facist, society, even if we placed the order for a freer one.

Some of us sacrifice oblations of liquor in our worship, but this is over that top!

Sacred Sundays - Quest for Love Theme - The Green Man, N. Hollywood

Posted by: "Karen Tate" karentate108@ca.rr.com   specialjourn

Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:23 pm (PST)

Greetings Friends,

How many of us are tired of hearing how we are supposed to live?

* What our god is supposed to look like and be about.
* What we can and cannot do with our bodies.
* How we're supposed to worship.
* Who we can love and marry.
* That Goddess is a demon and Her spirituality isn't real or deserving
of equality and protection.
* That caring for one another and perpetuating ideals of caring, peace,
balance, fairness, equality and partnership are somehow a bad thing.

*WELL, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF SACRED SUNDAYS.*

To gather with like-minded women and men who want to create a new
paradigm, a new future, one that works for us all in the delicious stew
of diversity that is the Divine Feminine and Sacred Masculine. Join us
monthly and be the change we want to see in the world. Help us set a
tone that ushers in a new world that rebirths the ideals of Goddess at
the center of society.

Sacred Sundays are back at the Green Man in North Hollywood and here is
our holiday schedule....please come and share sacred space with us. Open
to women, men and well behaved young people. Usually every fourth Sunday
at The Green Man store in North Hollywood, however, here is our holiday
schedule.....

Our next service is.....
Sunday, December 18 -- 11am to 1PM

Our theme is....
Quest for the Many Faces of Love

Carve out some sacred space for yourself. Connect with community. Enjoy
singing, sharing, wisdom telling!

Then perhaps sacred shopping after the service!

Check out our link -- http://www.karentate.com/Tate/sacred_sundays.htm

What are Sacred Sundays?

An interfaith service based on the Sacred Feminine, complemented by the
Divine Masculine, and open to women, men and well-behaved children of
all faiths and traditions.

Services followed by lite refreshments and community sharing.

Where:
The Green Man Store
5712 Lankershim Boulevard
N. Hollywood, CA 91601

Time: 11am - 1pm

Cost: $10.00 - No one turned away for lack of funds

Sacred Sundays Mission Statement -

There is no one way. We emphasize that because it is vital in today's
world. There is no one way to embrace, engage and acknowledge the Divine
in our daily lives. We gather on Sacred Sunday to nourish our souls, to
gather in community, and to uplift our spirits. We use these moments in
time from our busy lives to help that connection with deity manifest, to
bring alive the memory of the teachings of the past, and to continue
benefiting from this now and in our future.

We encourage you to seek your own best path to the Divine. Remember that
it is always both within and outside ourselves, it surrounds and
permeates us. We are never alone. Besides reclaiming the knowledge and
wisdom of our Ancient Ones, we also remind ourselves on Sacred Sunday of
these values and how they pertain to our current reality. Even the most
experienced of us have things yet to learn. We invite you to join us as
we share our experiences to help you facilitate your own journey.

Sacred Sundays is open to women, men and children who wish to gather
with open hearts and minds, in a spirit of diversity, partnership, love
and tolerance, to gentle the Divine Feminine back into the lives of
humanity. Come and share with us ways to "live the Sacred Feminine" as
we shift our world from domination and patriarchy to partnership.

Director

Tarot Cards for tonight, everyone

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tarot Cards for tonight, everyone

Past card is the 8 of wands upside right, shuffling through a lot of term oil, trying to get through difficult situations and sometimes feels like we're getting no where fast, as much as we try and figure a way out everything is just so puzzled and difficult to understand.  Then we get some times that we actually feel like we're ahead just as bad news strikes and pushes us right back in the smack of the entire situation all over again, so what do we do, we start hacking away making a new trail through out all the old brush, when we allow these obstacles to get in our way and feel sorry for ourselves it can effect the way we live today.

Present card is the 2 of Pentacles, unfortunately we let life get the best of us that causes us to misplace life in general, we gain so much  in a short time esp after a life long time of fighting for what we want and need in this world, if we don't focus on our abilities and talents, see that we are capable of finishing something or building something in our lives we will continue to fall on a path of self destruction, this is the time, the time to learn life's lessons, leave the past go and stop shuffling through all that nasty thick brush, turn around and lets start a new path, a new road, it's prob easier if we climb!  If we can focus on our inner light and allow our spiritual guides to help us, except their help, we can change our lives for the best and stop allowing life to pick us off one by one!

The Future card is the 4 of wands, if we focus on ourselves and work on our talents, see ourselves in a positive light and let go of the dark past, there is a lot of peace and happiness in the near future, calmness, stability, warmth, togetherness, people that have not talked in a long time will start communicating more, some may change a little in their lives.  The near future is something to look forward to and it's all in our powers to change things for the best.  Work on your abilities to do more for yourselves, do more to focus on a new journey, allow and reach out to people you can trust, and except the healing power of your higher power to reach in and help you out of a time of darkness...You will see light at the end of that brush, sometimes it's just best to leave it be and start anew!

Blessings to all!

Dear Cher,

I've been so busy unpacking boxes this morning that I haven't had a chance to write this newsletter till now.  More on what new goodies have arrived below. ;-)

Thank you to everyone who came shopping on Saturday and picked up some great stones at the Gem Trunk Show!  If you saw that gorgeous, huge hunk of Rose Quartz, it's now in the store, along with a beautiful Amethyst cathedral and an Amethyst slab.  I've also got some larger Selenite lamps that are just exquisite.  Such wonderful energy in the store!

More author events and classes are in the works, so be sure to check out the website or pick up flyers when you're in the store.  If there's a class you're interested in teaching, please fill out the form on the Classes page on the website.  The schedule is starting to get busy.

Don't forget that lay-away is available for your holiday purchases.  Just make a 50% deposit on your items and you can pay down the balance a little at a time.  Items must be paid for in-full and picked up by December 20 or you will forfeit your deposit and your items (you cannot make any changes once you've picked out your gifts).  All your selections will be wrapped and ready for you to affix your name tags, or bring in the name tags and we'll complete the job for you.

I hope you enjoyed that beautiful Full Moon on Saturday.  What a treat!  Some other good astrological news is that Mercury goes direct tomorrow, although we will still be under the Shadow Period for the next few days after.

Hope to see you soon!

What's Happening Today:

Sweden, Italy: St. Lucia's Day -- In honor of St. Lucia, a possible reference to the Sun Goddess Lucina.  St. Lucia was a   young girl from Sicily who brought food to persecuted Christians. This however, was a crime and she was caught and   burned at the stake for her treason. Young girls dress in white with brilliant red sashes and a wreath of candles about their heads (today the candles are battery operated). At daybreak, the first-born daughter of the house wears a candle crown and serves her family cakes, saffron buns and coffee or tea. Boys also dress in white with white pointed hats covered with stars they   are called "Star Boys". There are pageants and one girl has the honor of being the "Lucia Bride" and leads the procession   followed by the other children.  Lucina was the Roman goddess of childbirth, who eased the pain and made sure all went well.
Lucina became later a epithet of Juno, as "she who brings children into the light".

Saint Lucy/Goddess Lucina
In the Roman Empire, Lucina was an epithet for Juno as "she who brings children into light". Lucia is still honoured on St Lucia’s Day as the girl wearing the candle crown, usually the first-born daughter of the house, is symbolic of pagan symbols of fire and life-giving light. Lucina was the goddess of

Tellus Mater -  Tellus Mater was the Roman Earth Mother who represented the fertility of the earth and all beings. She was closely associated with Ceres, the Grain Goddess. It was Tellus Mater who watched over a seed from the time it was planted until it was fully grown. When couples married, Tellus Mater was invoked during the ceremony to ensure reproduction. Oaths were sworn to her as the earth that sees all. Goddess  Of The Day : SAMJNA Nobel Day (Various Locations)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:17 pm (PST)

Goddess  Of The Day: SAMJNA
Nobel Day (Various Locations)

Themes: Knowledge; Learning; Excellence; Reason
Symbol: Walnut (the mind)

About Samjna: In Hindu tradition, this Goddess is the source of all conscious thought and action. Her name
even means "consciousness," and she is the patroness of learning, reason, logic and knowledge.

To Do Today: Every year at this time, the Nobel Prize is awarded for mastery in chemistry, medicine, literature,
and peace keeping. It is a time to revel in humankind's achievements and limitless potential for good, motivated
by Samjna's gentle leading.

To honor this Goddess and the people who have achieved the pinnacle of what she represents, spend some
time enriching your mind today. For instance, you might read field manuals applicable to your career to advance
your knowledge; watch educational television; go to a library, or perhaps donate to its shelves some old books
that you no longer read; organize a local reading group for improved literary appreciation; or turn off the
television and engage in intelligent conversation for mutual edification. The options here are limitless.

For a Samjna charm that improves conscious awareness and your reasoning powers, carry a shelled walnut.
The shape of this nut equates to the mind. Eat this at the end of the day to internalize her power for thoughtful
actions.

Ancient Solstice Meaning

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:23 pm (PST)

Ancient Solstice Meaning

Christmas, ironically, antedates the Nativity of Christ, and December 25 is a fudge. In the third century
AD the Church fathers chose that day as Christ’s birthday, with good reason. It happens to fall approximately
on the Northern Hemisphere’s Winter Solstice, and December 25 (Midwinter’s Day) has been from time
immemorial a day sacred to the rebirth of the light of the sun in the depths of winter.

This day was the Festival of Natalis Sol Invictus (the Birth of the Undefeated Sun) in ancient Rome.
Ancient peoples also commemorated the Babylonian Queen of Heaven, Osiris in Egypt, Dionysus, Helios,
Adonis, the Celtic Cernunnos, the Syrian Baal, Attis, Mithras, Balder and the Norse goddess Frey - all
celebrated on the ancient Winter Solstice, and mostly solar saviours and dying gods. Most of these deities
were given similar titles: the Light of the World, Sun of Righteousness, and Saviour.

Daily Aromatherapy Tip  -  Sweet Bags

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:24 pm (PST)

Daily Aromatherapy Tip  -  Sweet Bags

Sweet bags are used to perfume items such as: gloves, linens, scarves, shawls

You will need:
~4 cups/1lb orris root powder
~Handful each of:
dried lavender
dried marjoram
dried lemon peel
dried orange peel
dried rose petals
~5 cotton pads
~30 drops essential oils (10 each of: cypress, clove & nutmeg)
~5 purchased circular place mats or dressing table mats 8" diameter
~ribbon 3" wide

Crush the dried herbs to a rough-textured powder, using a pestle and mortar. Add the orris root.

Put two drops each of
the essential oils on to each cotton pad. Place these, together with the crushed herbs, into a tin or sealed jar to cure for one week.

Divide the herb mixture into five equal parts, including a cotton pad with each portion. Make
the sweet bags. Fold each mat in half, then wrap into a cone shape. Sew
the edges of the outer layer to secure. Fill the cone with herb mixture. Draw together the inner layers of the cone to enclose the mixture, and
sew together. (Alternative bags are made from the ribbon -- folded into
an envelope, stitched and stuffed with herb mixture.)

Traditional Carol

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Dec 12, 2011 7:24 pm (PST)

Tomorrow will be my dancing day,
I would my true love would so chance,
to see the legend of my play,
to call my true love to my dance.
Sing, O my love, O my love,
my love, my love.
This have I done for my true love.
~Traditional Carol

In Greece, this was the period called the halcyon days - the weeks before and after the winter solstice.
The name comes from that of an ancient heroine, Halcyone, who loved a fisherman named Ceyx. A dream
told her that her beloved had died at sea, and so she stood thereafter by the seashore, finally catching her
lover's body as it washed to shore.

Transported by grief and unquenchable longing, Halcyone burst out of human form into the shape of the first
kingfisher, and her dead mate magically revived and joined her in the same shape. So kindly did the Greek
divinities look on this loyal love that they blessed the couple. Now, when the kingfisher is ready to lay its eggs,
a calm descends on the sea until they hatch. These are the halcyon days, a term used of any period of calm and peace.
