DailyOM - Revealing Your True Self
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Essential Authenticity
Revealing Your True Self
Our true selves exist whether we acknowledge them or not, often buried under fears and learned behavior.

Identity is an elusive concept. We feel we must define ourselves using a relatively small selection of roles and conscious character traits, even if none accurately represents our notion of "self." The confusion surrounding our true natures is further compounded by the fact that society regularly asks us to suppress so much of our emotional, intellectual, and spiritual vibrancy. Yet we are, in truth, beings of light用ure energy inhabiting physical bodies, striving for enlightenment while living earthly lives. Our true selves exist whether we acknowledge them or not, often buried under fears and learned behavior. When we recognize our power, our luminosity, and our divinity, we cannot help but live authentic lives of appreciation, potential, fulfillment, and grace.

At birth and throughout your childhood, your thoughts and feelings were more than likely expressions of your true self. Though you may have learned quickly that to speak and act in a certain fashion would win others' approval, you understood innately that you were no ordinary being. There are many ways you can recapture the authenticity you once articulated so freely. Meditation can liberate you from the bonds of those earthly customs that compel you to downplay your uniqueness. Also, communing with nature can remind you of the special role you were meant to play in this lifetime. In order to realize your purpose, you must embrace your true self by letting your light shine forth, no matter the consequences.

Rediscovering who you are apart from your roles and traits takes time and also courage. If, like many, you have denied your authenticity for a long while, you may find it difficult to separate your true identity from the identity you have created to cope with the world around you. Once you do find this authentic self, however, you will be overcome by a wonderful sense of wholeness as you reconcile your spiritual aspect and your physical aspect, as well as your inner- and outer-world personas. As you gradually adjust to this developing unity, your role as a being of light will reveal itself to you, and you will discover that you have a marvelous destiny to fulfill.

12 Days of Yule Devotionals - Prayers for the Winter Solstice

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Mon Dec 5, 2011 3:23 pm (PST)

12 Days of Yule Devotionals - Prayers for the Winter Solstice

A Prayer to the Earth at Yule DAY 1 !

Just because the earth is cold doesn't mean there's nothing going on down there in the soil.
Think about what lies dormant in your own life right now, and consider what may bloom a few months from now.

Cold and dark, this time of year,
the earth lies dormant, awaiting the return
of the sun, and with it, life.
Far beneath the frozen surface,
a heartbeat waits,
until the moment is right,
to spring.

Sunrise Prayer - A Sunrise Prayer for Yule DAY 2

The sun returns! The light returns!
The earth begins to warm once more!
The time of darkness has passed,
and a path of light begins the new day.
Welcome, welcome, the heat of the sun,
blessing us all with its rays.

Prayer to the Winter Goddess DAY 3

Despite the fact that some people hate cold weather, it does have
its advantages. After all, a good cold day gives us an opportunity
to cuddle up indoors with the people we love the most.

O! Mighty goddess, in silvery ice,
watching over us as we sleep,
a layer of shining white,
covering the earth each night,
frost on the world and in the soul,
we thank you for visiting us.
Because of you, we seek warmth
in the comfort of our homes and hearths.

Counting Your Blessings - A Prayer of Thanks DAY 4

Yule should be a time of joy and happiness, but for many people it can be stressful.
This is a season to take a moment and be thankful for the blessings you have, and to take a moment to remember those less fortunate.

I am grateful for that which I have.
I am not sorrowful for that which I do not.
I have more than others, less than some,
but regardless, I am blessed with
what is mine.

A Prayer for the Beginning of Winter DAY 5

In early winter, we can see the skies becoming overcast, and smell fresh snow in the air.
Take a few minutes to think about the fact that even if the skies are cold and dark, it's only temporary.

See the gray skies overhead, preparing the way
for the darkness soon to come.
See the gray skies overhead, preparing the way,
for the world to go cold and lifeless.
See the gray skies overhead, preparing the way
for the longest night of the year.
See the gray skies overhead, preparing the way
for the sun to one day return,
bringing with it light.

Sunset Prayer - A Sunset Prayer for Yule DAY 6

The longest night has come once more,
the sun has set, and darkness fallen.
The trees are bare, the earth asleep,
and the skies are cold and black.

Yet tonight we rejoice, in this longest night,
embracing the darkness that enfolds us.
We welcome the night and all that it holds,
as the light of the stars shines down.

A Nordic Yule Blessing DAY 7

Yule is a time to set aside animosity between yourself and people who would normally antagonize you.
The Norsemen had a tradition that enemies who met under a bough of mistletoe were obligated to lay down their arms.
Set aside your differences, and think about that as you ponder this devotional.

Beneath the tree of light and life,
a blessing at this season of Jul!
To all that sit at my hearth,
today we are brothers, we are family,
and I drink to your health!
Today is a day to offer hospitality
to all that cross my threshold
in the name of the season.

Snow Prayer - A Snow Prayer for Yule DAY 8

Depending on where you live, you may be seeing snowfall long before Yule arrives. Take a moment to appreciate its beauty, both as it
falls and once it covers the ground.

From the reaches of the north,
a place of cold blue beauty,
comes to us the first winter storm.
Wind whipping, flakes flying,
the snow has fallen upon the earth,
keeping us close,
keeping us together,
wrapped up as everything sleeps
beneath a blanket of white.

A Prayer for the Old Gods at Yule DAY 9

The Holly King is gone, and the Oak King reigns -
Yule is the time of the old winter gods!

Hail to Baldur! To Saturn! To Odin!
Hail to Ameratsu! To Demeter!
Hail to Ra! To Horus!
Hail to Frigga, Minerva Sulis and Cailleach Bheur!
It is their season, and high in the heavens,
may they grant us their blessings this winter day.

A Celtic Yule Blessing DAY 10

The Celtic people knew the importance of the solstice. Although the Yule season marks the middle of winter, colder times were still to come.
It was important to put aside staple foods for the coming months, because it would be many months before anything fresh grew again.
Consider, as you think on this devotional, what your family has put aside -- both material goods and things on the spiritual plane.

The food is put away for the winter,
the crops are set aside to feed us,
the cattle are come down from their fields,
and the sheep are in from the pasture.
The land is cold, the sea is stormy, the sky is gray.
The nights are dark, but we have our family,
kin and clan around the hearth,
staying warm in the midst of darkness,
our spirit and love a flame
a beacon burning brightly
in the night.

An Elemental Blessing for Yule DAY 11

In the middle of winter, it's hard to remember sometimes that light is coming back to earth.
However, despite the gray, cloudy days, we know that soon, the sun will return.
Keep this in mind during those dreary days when it seems winter will never end, by invoking the four classical elements.

As the earth grows colder,
the winds blow faster,
the fire dwindles smaller,
and the rains fall harder,
let the light of the sun
find its way home.

Prayer to the Sun God for Yule - A Yule Prayer to Ra DAY 12

Great sun, wheel of fire, Ra in your glory,
hear me as I honor you
on this, the shortest day of the year.
Summer has gone, passed us by,
the fields are dead and cold,
all of earth sleeps in your absence.
Even in the darkest times,
you light the way for those who would need a beacon,
of hope, of brightness,
shining in the night.
Winter is here, and colder days coming,
the fields are bare and the livestock thin.
We light these candles in your honor,
that you might gather your strength
and bring life back to the world.
O Ra, mighty sun above us,
we ask you to return, to bring back to us
the light and the warmth of your fire.
Bring life back to earth,
Bring light back to earth.

Hail Ra! Ruler of the sun!

Location:

Unitarian Society

East Brunswick, New Jersey

Hands of Change Coven Web:

This Full Moon Circle Starts at 7:00 pm to be family-friendly!

That's right, folks. We're back indoors for the winter months at the Unitarian Society, 176 Tices Lane, East Brunswick. Meet us in the Octagon room for a special full moon ritual to herald the coming cold months. Please bring a snack or beverage to share. Requested donation: $5.

A Hands of Change Full Moon Circle is a public meeting for those who are looking to respectfully worship the Goddess and God in a comfortable friendly setting. It is also the best way to meet us or to see what were all about. Any one of our members would be happy to meet you and answer any questions. You can tell us by the gold cords we wear.

Our Full Moon circles are open to all respectful seekers. They are "teaching circles," where we explain the magic we are creating. We are an eclectic group, drawing strength from several traditions and disciplines. Much of our power comes from our acceptance of diversity and our commitment to inclusion. Our open circles generally draw 25-30 people. We recommend that if this is the first time attending you do so with an open mind and in comfortable clothing.
Donation Jar, Comment Cauldron, & Sign-up Sheets

We ask all who attend to leave a $5 donation - more if you can, less if you can't. Rent is very expensive and rituals require a lot of supplies that need to be purchased every time.

Please leave your suggestions and comments in the comment cauldron!
We ask everyone to sign in the first 3 times they attend our Full Moon Circles. This allows us to keep you updated on future circles, and helps us to keep track of those who are eligible for invitations to our Sabbat rituals.

Please bring a snack or drink to share

If you'd like to get more involved, please sign up on our service sheets to
help at upcoming rituals. Roles available range from space prep to kitchen witch so lend us your talents and help us continue our 14 year tradition of serving the community.

The Hands of Change Full Moon Ritual

The circles that we create at the Full Moons are cast using a basic Wiccan theme starting with:

Welcome and Announcements:

The Priest and Priestess welcome all.
Lighting the Fire Candle:

The Priest draws the divine spark of life into the circle.
Calling the Quarters:

We welcome the directions and corresponding elements East (Air), South (Fire), West (Water), and North (Earth) to protect and witness the ritual.
Welcoming Deity:

We welcome God and Goddess energy into the circle. This is done in many various ways depending on the Priestess and Priest.
The Circle is Cast:

All who enter therein shall set aside everything except their love and understanding of the Goddess and God. When we come to circle, we cast off the concerns of the mundane world--for all who enter here, enter in perfect love and perfect trust.

The spiral of energy we create moves deosil (day-oh-sill) or clockwise as it grows and widdershins (wit-er-shins) or counterclockwise as it diminishes. Therefore, in the first parts of the ritual walk only clockwise around the altar (to build energy). At the end we dismiss the elements counterclockwise to bring the energy down.

The circle is sacred space. As such, we ask that you remain within its bounds until it has been opened. If you need to leave sooner, a gatekeeper is designated to help you leave the circle in a respectful manner.
When we are in sacred space, our words and our intentions take on a weight and depth of meaning they might not have in the mundane world. Thus, take care, for what we promise in circle, the universe will expect from us.
Ritual Body:

Each ritual has a different focus, e.g., healing, preparing for a new season, releasing, and attuning ourselves to the changes around us. There are many ways we may raise energy to empower our magic. Chanting, dancing, drumming, artwork, game playing, and talking sticks are some of the more popular ones, though our creativity knows no bounds!
Great Rite:

We integrate the God and Goddess, the Masculine and Feminine, the dynamic and the receptive within us, in this magical act of creating community through food and non-alcoholic drink. We say:

I am faith and courage. I am being and doing. I am love and will.
I am the feminine and masculine shining as one.
Integration is my goal, creation my pleasure,
and a centered self my will manifested.

Dismissals:
We open the circle cast by thanking the Deities and Quarters we welcomed, but in the reverse order. We sing:

The Circle is Open, But is not Broken,
        Merry Meet and Merry Part
        and Merry Meet Again!

Feast:
We share in the community weve created by sharing more food and drink. You are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic drink to share, but please take home what you bring.

Mon Dec 5, 2011 7:56 pm (PST)

DailyOM - Finding Time for You
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

December 5, 2011
Your Most Vital Commitment
Finding Time for You
We can excel easier in our lives when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled.

Within each of there is a well of energy that must be regularly replenished. When we act as if this well is bottomless, scheduling a long list of activities that fit like puzzle pieces into every minute of every day, it becomes depleted and we feel exhausted, disconnected, and weak. Refilling this well is a matter of finding time to focus on, nurture, and care for ourselves, or "you time." Most of us are, at different times throughout the day, a spouse, a friend, a relative, an employee, a parent, or a volunteer, which means that down time, however relaxing in nature, is not necessarily "you time." Though some people will inevitably look upon "you time" as being selfish, it is actually the polar opposite of selfishness. We can only excel where our outer world affairs are concerned when our own spiritual, physical, and intellectual needs are fulfilled.

Recognizing the importance of "you time" is far easier than finding a place for it in an active, multifaceted lifestyle, however. Even if you find a spot for it in your agenda, you may be dismayed to discover that your thoughts continuously stray into worldly territory. To make the most of "you time," give yourself enough time on either side of the block of time you plan to spend on yourself to ensure that you do not feel rushed. Consider how you would like to pass the time, forgetting for the moment your obligations and embracing the notion of renewal. You may discover that you are energized by creative pursuits, guided meditation, relaxing activities during which your mind can wander, or modes of expression such as writing.

Even if you have achieved a functioning work-life balance, you may still be neglecting the most important part of that equation: you. "You time" prepares you for the next round of daily life, whether you are poised to immerse yourself in a professional project or chores around the home. It also affords you a unique opportunity to learn about yourself, your needs, and your tolerances in a concrete way. As unimportant as "you time" can sometimes seem, it truly is crucial to your wellbeing because it ensures that you are never left without the energy to give of yourself.

And the lion shall lie down with the
lamb...

(While the above quote has its origins in the
Christian Bible, the biblical passage, from the King James version of the book
of Isaiah, actually states that "the wolf shall dwell with the lamb and the
leopard shall lie down with the kid…" Please see our thought-provoking Question
of the Month below.)

Hi everyone!  Namaste.

Although our individual spiritual truths may be as unique as we are, many of us
tend to place them in a realm somewhat unreachable from the 'reality' of our
daily lives. We commune with these truths in meditation, prayer and/or ritual as
if they reside in some lofty place to visit on special
occasions.
As we celebrate a "rebirth of Light" at this time of
year, let us remember the Light that resides within us all, always. The Light
that never dims, no matter the season. The Light we are made of. Let us be
unafraid to explore it. Let us lie down with it.

Goddess  Of The Day  :  TAKANAKAPSALUK Kashim (Alaska)

Goddess  Of The Day :  TAKANAKAPSALUK
Kashim (Alaska)

Themes: Providence; Purification; Strength; Thankfulness; Luck; Health
Symbols: Saltwater; Artic Animals

About Takanakapsaluk: This Artic Sea Goddess rules over the successful catching of game and over
personal health. Takanakapsaluk lives far beneath the cold waters, where she also recieves the spirits
of the dead and cares for them.

To Do Today: Among Inuit hunters, this is the time of year when special rituals propitiate the spirits of
Takanakapsaluk's animals, who give themselves for the tribe's food. Specifically the bladders of seals,
whales and polar bears are returned to her icy waters in thankfulness. In a similar spirit, go to any open
body of water and toss in a small biodegradable offering to the Goddess in thanks for your food. Consider
abstaining from meat today, or from some other beloved food, as a way of showing appreciation for the
Goddess's bounty.

The Kashim traditionally includes ritual fire jumping and sweat baths for purification. Try this yourself by
jumping a small candle (carefully, please) or taking a steamy shower (the goddess is part of that water).
Additionally, any show of physical prowess todaybrings continued strength. So, add a little exercise to your
day. Take a brisk walk, do some jumping jacks. As you do, think of Takanakapsaluk filling you with revitalizing
health.

Make a Witch Ball Spell

Make a Witch Ball Spell

Years ago Witch balls hung in
the windows of many homes. These were glass balls similar to the gazing
balls you see today in many gardens. The purpose of these balls was to
repel the evil eye. Here's how you can make your own. Purchase clear
glass or plastic Christmas ornaments from a craft store, along with
bottles of liquid gold and silver metallic craft paints. You can also
purchase other colors of paint—it's up to you. Next, remove the wire
loop at the top of the ornament. Squeeze small amounts of the paint on
to the ornament, in pleasing combinations of colors. Swirl the ornament
around, so the paints blend and coat the interior of the ornament. Leave it to dry overnight. On the next day, replace the wire loops at the top of the ornament and charge it with your magical intent. Hang it with a
pretty cord in your window or on a holiday tree. The pattern made by the paints will trap and hold any negative energy. ~James Kambos

Daily Aromatherapy Tip  -  Frankincense Bath Kisses

These lusciously
scented "kisses" are a bathtime luxury. Melt one ounce cocoa butter and
2/3 ounce shea butter(available in most health
food stores)in a
microwave, then add 1/3 ounce sweet almond oil and 1/8 teaspoon each
frankincense and sweet orange essential oils. Pour
into small candy
molds and place in the freezer for 20 minutes. Remove from molds. Place
one or two 'kisses' into hot bath water.
Store the rest in a ziplock bag in the freezer

Inuit Song

Where is the woman who refused to marry?
Look: she is in a kayak going to sea with a puffin.
Where is the father of the woman who refused to marry?
He is taking her home in a kayak to the mainland.
Now he is taking the woman back home.
Now a storm is rising. Now the wind is rising.
Now the man is pushing the woman into the sea.
Now she is clinging to the boat. Now he is striking her.
With a knife he is cutting her fingers. Seals emerge.
Again he is striking at her arms. Whales emerge.
Now she is sinking, Sedna the beautiful.
Now she is sinking. The tide is taking her.
~Inuit Song

One of the most powerful and violent of the world's goddess myths is the story of Sedna, the great Goddess
of Abundance to the Artic Inuit people and their relatives the Inupiat and Yup'ik. A woman who found no
human man appealing enough to marry, Sedna was finally courted and won by a sea bird. He took her to
an island, where she lived in a huge best and ate fish scraps. After some time, her father came to rescue her,
but the sea rose up against him, for the bird was a prince of the ocean.

The man, realizing he could not win against the elements, pushed his daughter overboard. She clung to
the side of the boat. He pushed her away. She sank beneath the waves. And there, she underwent a
transformation. From her arms, whales emerged; from her fingers, seals. The foodstuff from which her
people would rely came from Sedna's body.

Variants of this myth - in which a primal mother gives up her body in order to feed her people - appear across
the world. However shocking it might seem, it encodes an inescapable truth: we live of the lives of others.
To do so without gratitude is the ultimate insult to our great mother, nature.
