Today's Goddess:ODUDUA Kwanza (African-American)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 26, 2011 8:06 pm (PST)
Today's Goddess:ODUDUA
Kwanza (African-American)
Themes: Kinship; Unity; Devotion; Creativity; Community; Love; Fertility
Symbols: Black Items
About Odudua: In the beginning, Odudua created the earth and its people. In Yoruban tradition, she presides over all matters of fertility, love, and community. Her sacred color is black.
To Do Today: This African American festival celebrates family unity and the black culture. It is also a harvest festival whose name means "first fruits." Every day of the celebration focuses on important themes including Odudua's harmony, determination, community responsibility, purpose, creativity, and faith.
One lovely tradition easily adapted is that of candle lighting. Each day of the festival, light one red, green, or black candle
(the colors of Africa). Name the candle after one of Odudua's attributes you wish to develop (try to choose the color that
most closely corresponds to your goal). Igniting it gives energy and visual manifestation to that principle. Also try to keep
one black candle lit ( in a safe container) to honor the goddess's presence during this time.
To inspire Odudua's peaceful love in your heart and life today, wear something black. This will absorb the negativity around you and put it to rest.
GrannyMoon's Note: In Yoruba mythology, Odudua is ancient fertility goddess, a daughter of Olorunand Olokun,
and sister/wife of Obatala, the Yoruba god of the earth. From the union of Obatala, heaven, and Odudua
came forth two children, Aganju and Yemaja. These children represent
land and water. She (occasionally male) is the Goddess of the South.
Alternative: Oduduwa, Odudu

Future Dreams Spell

Future Dreams Spell
Incense of the day: Chrysanthemum
The
darkened Moon at this close of the calendar year is a good time for rest and reflection. On this night, draw an herbal bath of laven-der and
jasmine. Surround the tub with candles and flowers. Reflect on the past
yearâ"its opportunities for growth, for joy, and even the difficulties.
Reflect on all that you have learned this past year. Allow the tub to
drain, visualizing any excess negativity draining away with the water.
Prepare a pouch of lavender and jasmine to place on your pillow. Before
drifting off to sleep, say these words:
The future calls
The continuous turn of the wheel.
All inspirations of hope and renewal
My dreams reveal.
Upon awakening and prior to rising from your bed, journal any perceptions or dream memories that you have had.

Grief Fades Spell

Grief Fades Spell
When someone you love dies, it seems that your grief will never fade. This spell gives you something to hold
onto as you count down the days of your mourning year. To start, you will need a photo of your loved one,
two beautiful jars, 364 small black beads, and one large white bead. Set the jars on the altar and put the
photo between them. Put all the beads in the jar on the left. Each day, move one black bead to the right jar;
as you do, pause to consider your feelings. Some days you may feel better, others awful. When you get to
the final, white bead take an hour to wish your loved one well.

Welsh Song for Mari Lwyd
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 26, 2011 8:11 pm (PST)
The fairies come in without bidding,
to drink from the Wassail bowl,
and to look at the lovely mare,
her head all tied up with bows.
Fine soldiers lead her in,
as roguish spirits make merry.
Now give me some food and drink,
and happy new year everybody!
~Welsh Song for Mari Lwyd
One of the most charming of solstice festivals was traditionally celebrated on this day in Wales, where costumed celebrants enacted the ritual of the Mari Lloyd or Black Mare. Never was there a horse quite like this one, decorated with ribbons and other seasonal ornaments. And could she dance! The arrival of the Mari Lwyd was the high point of festivities during the midwinter season. It was said that the parties were so enjoyable that even the silly people - the fairies - came to join in.
The fun of holiday gatherings is wearing thin by this time; they begin to
feel like obligations rather than pleasures. Winter has officially arrived, and with it comes a natural withdrawal, a kind of emotional
hibernation. This is a good time to make plans for ways to counter the effects of this withdrawal over the next few months.
Keeping connected to those we love as winter progresses does not make spring any less welcome.
