10 New Year's Resolutions to Skip

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Dec 26, 2010 11:08 am (PST)

10 New Year’s Resolutions to Skip
December 25, 2010 at 5:00 am By Taryn Galewind
Cut yourself some slack. Skip the New Year’s resolutions this year. Or, if you can’t dispense with them altogether, make just one: Resolve to be the best you can in health, in love, and in personal satisfaction. While you’re at it, resolve NOT to do any of the following:
1. Lose ten pounds
Too much pressure. Enjoy living the healthiest life you can, for the pleasure of being healthy.
2. Become a better person
You’re fine. Polish your talents. Contemplate your weaknesses. Love yourself for both, and resolve that you are awesome.
3. Reorganize your life
That’s a big bite to manage without frustration. Pick one thing that doesn’t work for you and do it a different way, one time. See where that goes.
4. Spend more time with family and friends
You’ll tell yourself you’re just too busy. Figure out why you wish for more time with loved ones. What’s in your way? Why aren’t you together? Then, every day, give away a ton of hugs and see what happens.
5. Join a health club
Half of January memberships are abandoned by the end of February. Find one activity that you enjoy and see if you can do a bit of it daily. Look into the health club thing in March and weigh your degree of interest then.
6. Enjoy life more, a resolution bound to fail
Too vague, not measurable. Like the commercial says, get out there. Don’t just talk about it, find something that really tickles your delight and do it right now.
7. Find a new love
You’re putting enormous pressure on yourself. Relax. Open yourself to life’s gifts. When will the love of your life manifest? It will be the moment you stop worrying about your love life.
8. Increase material wealth
Try giving away more than you did last year, or giving time to someone in need. The more you give, the richer you feel. Some cultures believe accumulating wealth is in direct proportion to generosity.
9. Get a better job
This isn’t the perfect year for new jobs. Times are tough, though improving. So, can you resolve to make your current job a better place to be? Figure out what’s not right â€" see how you can fix it.
10. Quit drinking, smoking, or self-medicating
(See Number 1.) Don’t make promises that put you under stress and pressure. If you have serious issues, make an appointment today with a medical advisor and know that you are worth helping.
We all know New Year’s resolutions are doomed. Holiday enthusiasm dissipates. Changing our behavior is a big mountain to climb. You’ll feel much more harmony in your life if you show yourself some gentle love and acceptance. On New Year’s Eve, take an inventory of everything valuable about you. Enhance and treasure those fine qualities in the new year. You’re doing fine.

True Story of Rudolph

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Dec 26, 2010 11:49 am (PST)

"True Story of Rudolph"

A man named Bob May, depressed and brokenhearted, stared out his drafty
apartment window into the chilling December night.

His 4-year-old daughter Barbara sat on his lap quietly sobbing. Bobs wife,
Evelyn, was dying of cancer. Little Barbara couldn't understand why her
mommy could never come home. Barbara looked up into her dad's eyes and
asked, "Why isn't Mommy just like everybody else's Mommy?" Bob's jaw
tightened and his eyes welled with tears.
Her question brought waves of grief, but also of anger. It had been the
story of Bob's life. Life always had to be different for Bob.

Small when he was a kid, Bob was often bullied by other boys. He was too
little at the time to compete in sports. He was often called names he'd
rather not remember. From childhood, Bob was different and never seemed to
fit in. Bob did complete college, married his loving wife and was grateful
to get his job as a copywriter at Montgomery Ward during the Great
Depression. Then he was blessed with his little girl. But it was all
short-lived. Evelyn's bout with cancer stripped them of all their savings
and now Bob and his daughter were forced to live in a two-room apartment in
the Chicago slums. Evelyn died just days before Christmas in 1938. Bob
struggled to give hope to his child, for whom he couldn't even afford to buy
a Christmas gift. But if he couldn't buy a gift, he was determined a make
one - a storybook! Bob had created an animal character in his own mind and
told the animal's story to little Barbara to give her comfort and hope.
Again and again Bob told the story, embellishing it more with each telling.
Who was the character? What was the story all about? The story Bob May
created was his own autobiography in fable form. The character he created
was a misfit outcast like he was. The name of the character? A little
reindeer named Rudolph, with a big shiny nose. Bob finished the book just
in time to give it to his little girl on Christmas Day. But the story
doesn't end there.

The general manager of Montgomery Ward caught wind of the little storybook
and offered Bob May a nominal fee to purchase the rights to print the book.
Wards went on to print, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and distribute it to
children visiting Santa Claus in their stores. By 1946 Wards had printed
and distributed more than six million copies of Rudolph. That same year, a
major publisher wanted to purchase the rights from Wards to print an updated
version of the book. In an unprecedented gesture of kindness, the CEO of
Wards returned all rights back to Bob May. The book became a best seller.
Many toy and marketing deals followed and Bob May, now remarried with a
growing family, became wealthy from the story he created to comfort his
grieving daughter. But the story doesn't end there either. Bob's
brother-in-law, Johnny Marks, made a song adaptation to Rudolph. Though the
song was turned down by such popular vocalists as Bing Crosby and Dinah
Shore , it was recorded by the singing cowboy, Gene Autry. "Rudolph the
Red-Nosed Reindeer" was released in 1949 and became a phenomenal success,
selling more records than any other Christmas song, with the exception of
"White Christmas."

The gift of love that Bob May created for his daughter so long ago kept on
returning back to bless him again and again. And Bob May learned the
lesson, just like his dear friend Rudolph, that being different isn't so
bad. In fact, being different can be a blessing.

Ok I know Snopes says parts are stretched a little bit in this
story. Bah Humbug

As Above, So Below--Part 1

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Sun Dec 26, 2010 12:18 pm (PST)

As Above, So Below

Many of us have heard the term "As above, so below; as within, so without.: This is one of the main principles of magic. This phrase offers part of the explanation of why and how magic works. Just from reading the words, yo can glean a very basic understanding of the teaching, but if we explore the concept, we can gain a deeper understanding of not only how magic works, but also how the universe works. While the idea is deep and far reaching, there are practical examples and exercises that you can do to illustrate the principle in action, and therefore make it a real part of yourself and your ever-growing magical practice.

As Above, So Below, a.k.a. the Law of Correspondence, is one of the Hermetic principles. The Hermetic principles come from an enigmatic document known as The Emerald Tablet, which is sometimes attributed to the Egyptian god Thoth or the Greek Hermes. The truth is, no one knows for sure where it came from or who first wrote it. According to one legend, it was seen in the library at Alexandria and described as an unnatural-looking tablet made of emerald with characters carved in bas-relief. Today we have different interpretations of the document, but they are all pretty similar. As Above, So Below is only a small part of the Emerald Tablet and the interpretations of the phrase that have come down through the ages.

What Does It All Mean?

One important interpretation of As Above, So Below is that man is the microcosm to the universe. This means in part that we carry everything in us and are a part of everything that is. After all, astronomer and astrochemist Carl Sagan pointed out that we are made of the same stuff as the stars and the rest of the universe. But this interpretation also paints a picture of the interaction between the realms of reality. It is important to know that, according to this law, the physical realm is a mirror of the spiritual realm. This mirror means if you want to change something in your life, you must change things in the higher realm. You have to have a spiritual plan for the world to follow. The spiritual realm is at our disposal and open to our will, because we're part of it, and it's part of us. How do we as humans in the physical realm make a change within the spiritual realm? Some people use creative visualization, some pray, and some use magical techniques.

We can actually break down the Law of Correspondence to understand the methods of magic that we use and why the magical correspondences (colors, stones, herbs, etc.) we use in spellcasting actually work to effect change in the universe. When doing that prosperity spell, do you know why that green candle works? The color green has become associated with money because money is green in many countries, but we also know that green growth has also been a symbol of abundance going back to the beginnings of agriculture. Therefore these energies are associated with prosperity in the spiritual realm. When we purposefully burn that green candle, we are sending a message to the spiritual realm that we're looking for prosperity. The spiritual realm gets the message because it understands the request, and then answers you by sending you prosperity because the material realm is a reflection of the spiritual realm.

As you can see, this is a principle that magical practitioners use all the time; even if we don't realize it, we've been using the idea of correspondences for ages. Many non-magical people have rediscovered this particular principle and are using it all over the place. There is a reason that motivational speakers, business leaders, life coaches, and best-selling mainstream books are using this principle as a basis for manifesting positive change--because it's a universal truth. Should this upset us as magical practitioners? Of course not. There is plenty of magic in the universe to go around; it belongs to everyone. If some choose not to call it "magic," it still is what it is. After all, it's not new; it's been around for a very, very long time. There are numerous interpretations out there for this principle, from the simple to the metaphysical and esoteric. They all agree, however, that correspondence is the principle where the spiritual, mental, and physical meet in order to make magic happen.

A Practical View

One of my favorite emblems of As Above, So Below is the symbol of the sacred tree, branches seen above, and roots seen below the trunk, mirroring the branches. This is a great illustration of the principle; if the roots are damaged, the tops of the tree will suffer, and if the tops of the tree are damaged, it will be reflected in the rest of the tree. If the roots receive lots of water and nutrients, the tops of the tree will thrive, and if the leaves are able to process lots of energy, the roots will be strong and grow deep. Each mirrors the other; each is part of the other. In this example, the sacred tree can be an example of the upper or spiritual realm, and the roots are the lower or inner realm; the trunk is anchored in the physical realm...the trunk is you.

What this means in everyday life is that we (and everything else) exist within all planes, astral as well as physical. In order to manifest something, a circuit needs to be completed, as in the health of the tree. Let's go back to the prosperity candle spell, which begins in the physical realm, as do all spells. On a Thursday you get your green candle, patchouli oil, gold coins, etc. Now you are going to light that candle and do that spell. What happens? You are sending your intention (to attract prosperity) into the astral realm. The act of doing your spell is what convinces your mind that this will work; it will bring you money you need. Now the deity, spirits, or energies that you worked with sense your belief that the spell is already working. Your mind is now open to the idea of gaining prosperity. Since magic takes the path of least resistance, your energy in the astral realm inspires a buddy who owes you money to drop by, a side job comes your way, or you get an unexpected bonus at work. The circuit is complete. What has just happened? As Above, So Below! You've been doing it all along.

It's deceptively simple. Here is another example you might not have thought of. You are struggling to carry too many bags of groceries into the house and all you can think about is how much you don't want to drop the bags. You focus on it so much that you are in fact seeing the bags fall, and feeling how much that would upset you, when suddenly, you lose balance and there go the eggs and spaghetti sauce, everywhere! Guess what? You made that happen. You are a magical practitioner used to manifesting things with your mind. It's not what you wanted to happen, but it was all you could think about, so it happened, like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Try it again. This time, purposefully use your magical skills, visualize yourself setting the bags safely on the counter and all in one piece--you will be amazed by the results. Send that image above, and you'll get it manifesting below. We have often been pre-conditioned to expect the worst, and therefore we get it. As magical practitioners, we have control over our own minds, which is the strongest tool that we use to manifest, and we need to use that tool to bring about the things we want, not the things we don't want. As Above, So Below can work with you or against you; it's you that decides.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"When you see a new trail, or a footprint that you do not know, follow it to the point of knowing."

-- Grandmother of Charles Eastman, SANTEE SIOUX

We never gain new knowledge or new experience unless we are willing to take risks. It's good to be curious. Also, it pays to be cautious. Walk in balance. The path of the Warrior is filled with opportunities to seek new knowledge. As we travel down the Red Road, we will run into trails of opportunity. Down each of these trails are experiences from which we will learn. Experience plus action is the beginning of knowledge."

Great Spirit, help me to make good choices in choosing only the trails You would have me take.

For colds, flu or other viral infections, take a warm shower and
follow it with a gentle whole-body lemon-oil treatment before going
to bed. Combine one cup of sunflower oil and 20 - 30 drops of lemon
oil and rub this mixture evenly over your skin. Wrap yourself up
well in towels or blankets and go to bed. During the night the oil
will be absorbed by the skin's pores and will deploy its antiseptic
properties.

Spell to Accelerate Time

Light 3 candles and place them on an altar. Create a circle, mark it with
roses, and recite the following words. (If the candles are blown out the spell
worked, if it didn't repeat the same process again until it works)

Say:

"Winds of time gather 'round,
Give me wings to speed my way.

Rush me on my journey forward,
Let tomorrow be today."
