Take it down a notch....breathe!

Telling them you are a witch will not make them like you any better or will it
make you any happier. Yes you may send them through the roof with the
information, but in the long run it is not worth it. As a witch we have to deal
with many who do not understand us. It does us no good to get worked up over it.

If you purchased her a Pandora bracelet then simply give her the option of an
exchange for something that she will like. She might have said that to upset you
on purpose...don't let her have her way with it. Let her know that you would
gladly exchange it for something else. Be the nice one! My grandmother used to
always tell me "You catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar". That or
"Kill them with kindness"....people like that just can't stand it when you are
sweet as honey because it gives them no reason to react with anger or
negativity!

Always remember to just breathe!

Blessed Be
Raven

I have to agree with Raven on this one Just breath and ya kill them with kindness they will not know what you are about if you do this. it will make them think well i cant get to her so i might as well quite and remember u cant make every one like you and its there loss that they do not. my ex and his family are christian too and they treat me like poop and call me names and if they knew i was a witch it would send them through the roof too but It wouldn't make me feel any better. But i also have those days were i would love to tell them to see what they would do. so just breath and tell her you would love to exchange it to something she will like and with a smile she will stand there wondering what u are up too lol.

Blessed be

Whenever I'm having a problem with someone, when I meditate I visualize
surrounding them with love (white light). It may not help them but it helps
me get over my anger.

I am just so wound up on this.......I am so wanting to let them know I am a witch- they already dont like me.....with that news...you would have to scrape them off the celing...

thoughts anyone?

Kill them with kindness. When you do this, they don't know how to react. People do things like this to piss you off, so the best way to react is to NOT react. It puzzles them; plus, it makes you the better person. I know this probably won't make you feel better, but I've found that it keeps you from wasting any energy or time thinking about them.

Greetings Sue,

Hopefully by now you have had time to read the wise advice of Raven, have took a deep breath and relaxed some.

What I would like to ask you to do is close your eyes and just try to imagine what it must be like for people like for people like your partner's mother to be so afraid of the things they do not understand. Think of something you are afraid of (for example spiders or snakes) and then try to imagine the bracelet being the thing you are afraid of. See what I mean?

I don't think people like that intend to be so mean, it is just that they are so paralyzed by fear. It is like, "Oh my god get it out of here!" Like some people do when they see a snake.
Maybe if you could see it from where they stand it will help you to be more sympothetic to them.

Sometimes it really isn't about them it is about us. And sometimes how we react will shed a different light on how other perceive us. I have a friend/co-worker at work that made this statement: "I have friends that are Wiccan and they are happy." She didn't understand her Wiccan friends, but she saw they were happy so she thought they had to have something going for them. Do you see where I am going with this? It is up to us to change how people look at us, and patience goes a long way towards this. And yes I know it is hard sometimes, because I have been there, done that to.

Hugs and blessings
Keelty Sage

Spiritual Guidance - 26 Principles of Life

1. All Are Related
There is a Native American saying, which translates roughly to "All
are Related". Everything in the universe is part of The Great Spirit,
from a rock, to a plant, to a fish, to a human. The spirit flows between and within
us all, and is the building block of everything. Since we are all part of the
same whole, we should treat the rest of the whole as if it is part of us,
i.e. With compassion and love. We are all part of the Great Spirit, just like
all the different leaves on a tree are still part of the tree.

2. The Energy Flow
The universe is composed of energy. This energy flows between
everything, us and within us all. When we have internal blocks, the energy fails to
flow correctly, causing illness, lethargy and other symptoms. This energy
can be directed consciously, we can see it, and feel it. How we feel affects
our energy levels; negativity drains energy, positivity creates energy.

3. We Are Beings of Both Spirit and Flesh
We are spirits, but at the same time, we are creatures of the flesh.
We inhabit both worlds simultaneously, even though we are often unaware
of it. We should not shun the flesh for spirit or vice versa. Both are equally
important. We have to walk with one foot in each of these worlds, and pay them
both attention. Neglecting either world causes distress in the other.

4. No One Entity is Superior to Another
No one being or creature is any better or greater than another. We
are all the same. We are all on different paths and have different levels of
understanding, but that does not make any one of us better than
another. Humans are not masters of nature, nor the animals and plants. They are our
companions, and co-inhabitants of this planet. We are not superior to them, nor do we
own? them. We should treat them all with respect.

5. Belief Creates
How we perceive the universe is shaped by our beliefs. If we believe
we are in a hurry, then everyone else appears to be going slow. Through
belief and positive thought, we can create virtually anything. We should believe
in our abilities and ourselves, and we will succeed. We can combine the
power of belief with that of visualization to bring anything into reality.

6. Intuition
Inside of us, a voice speaks and guides us.  It is our intuition. We
can choose to ignore it or to listen to it. Once we are in tune with our
intuition and start to listen to it, we will be guided and will find that we
can? achieve more than we thought possible. We will begin to realize that the
Great Spirit works through us - often in mysterious ways, but always to our
benefit - in the long term.

7. The Higher Purpose
Everything that happens is for a reason and for the greater good. We
have to learn to look at events in our lives from more than just the normal
human perspective. We must see them from the perspective of the Great
Spirit and to look at what good will come from these events. This is the old maxim
of "is the glass half full or half empty". We can look at events badly, half
empty, and our reaction will be worse. However, should we look at events
better, i.e. Half full, then we are more positive, which means our energy is
higher, and our reaction will be better.

8. There are No Ordinary Moments
The past only exists in our memory. The future only exists as our
expectation. The only time that really exists is NOW. It is a
precious moment and we should treat every single moment as special and live it to the full. By being in the present, we have presence. To live in the now the conscious
mind should be quiet and you must focus totally on what you are doing, not what
you are going to be doing next week, or what you are going to have for
lunch.

9. There are No Limits
The only limits we have are those we place upon ourselves, or others
place upon us. To this end, we should avoid being put in a pigeonhole and
labeled by others. If someone views a dog as being vicious, then it is more
likely to be vicious. We should hold no expectations of others, and let them
be themselves, just as we should be ourselves.

10. Action not Reaction
If we are tickled, our reaction is to laugh. We should be at a state
where we do not react in a situation, but act. Reaction is unconscious,
whereas Action is conscious. We should not let past influences affect our
actions, e.g.,  if we were once bitten by a dog, when we next meet a dog, we should
not let the past bite affect how we act towards it. There are times to act, as
well as times to be still. By living in the present and having control of
the conscious mind, we can better direct our action.

11. Positivity Rules
Negative thoughts attract negative events and drain our energy.
Positive thoughts attract positive events and increase our energy. To this
end, we should look at our thoughts and the events which happen to us in a positive
light, realizing negative thoughts for what they are and releasing them.

12. Posture, Pose & Breathing
Energy flows through the body, as it flows through all things. If
the posture and pose are bad, the energy can not flow cleanly and causes
blockages, which manifest as pain or illness. We breathe in energy from the
world around us. Therefore, our breaths should be deep and full, coming from the
bottom of the belly, and not the chest. This enables us to maximize our energy.
Deep breathing helps relax us. When we are stressed, angry or afraid our
breathing? changes and becomes shallow and faster. By consciously controlling
our breathing and keeping it deep and even, we can release the stress, anger or
fear, enabling us to act consciously in the situation.

13. Everything in Balance
The Universe exists in a state of balance, as should we. We can do
anything we wish, but should always do it to moderation, never to excess.
Should we do things to excess, then they can become addictive, which drains energy
and may become negative. Being balanced allows us to act better in
situations. If we are sat on the fence, so to speak, we can jump off either way should
we desire to.

14. Intent is Action
You can intend to do anything, and your intent is important.
However, unless the intent is followed with action, then the intent is nothing. As
an example. I may intend to get fit, but spend all my time sat in front
of the TV eating pizza and drinking cola. I have my intention, but my actions
do not confirm or create the intention. Therefore, if you intend something,
do it, don't just talk about it. Action turns knowledge into wisdom.

15. Freedom of Choice
We all have free will, and can choose to do anything we wish. There
is no situation where we do not have choice. It may appear that we do not,
but there are always options, if we have the courage and strength to take them.
We just have to have the courage of conviction to make the decisions.

16. Change Happens
Change is continuous and is always happening around us. We cannot
actually perceive change, but can see the end result of it. Change is not a
bad thing nor is it to be feared. Through change we can grow and go forwards.

17. Taking Responsibility
Our actions cause a reaction - it is a law of nature. We have to be
aware of our actions and take responsibility for them and for the
consequences of them. It is no good doing something and then saying you did not mean
to do it. Had you not meant to do it, you would not have done it. By taking
responsibility for our actions, so we can take back our power and
freedom to choose. We have to accept that no one will live for us, and that sometimes our actions will cause others, or ourselves, a measure of discomfort. Remember
though, that discomfort is one way of helping us grow and to show us where
changes need to be made.

18. One Step at a Time
To get to any goal, break it down into a number of small steps. If
you have many small successes, then this will lead to a big success. If you
aim for a big success straight off, you may fail. Remember that a journey
towards any destination starts with a single step, and then a second and a third,
and as many as required until you reach that destination. Remember to reward
and praise yourself for your successes, however small they are. By
acknowledging them, you increase your power and will to succeed, strengthening your
belief in yourself.

19. Judgement
We have no right to judge another for their words, thoughts or
deeds. They have the freedom of choice to do as they please and act as they wish,
just as we do. We are in no position to judge anyone, as we are imperfect
ourselves. It is easily done, for example, you see a big man with tattoo's, a
skinhead and wearing leather, and the automatic assumption is that he is
trouble. He may be a florist for all we know. This colors our judgement of people
and changes how we act towards them. By having no preconceptions of
other people, we can interact better with them, and perhaps make a new friend.

20. Integrity
Integrity is all about how we act when no one is looking. We must
live to our own standards and should not judge others by them. This is about
living in line with our highest vision despite urges to the contrary.

21. Air Your Doubts
By airing your doubts, fears, and worries, by looking at them and
seeing them for what they are, so you can conquer them and rid yourself of
them forever. By refusing to confront them, so they gain power over you,
and become even more deeply rooted. After you realize what they are - release them.

22. Failure
It is very rare for us to fail. We only ever choose to stop trying.
That is us exercising our free will. We can stop trying any time we wish,
but those that succeed never stop until they get to their goal. Success often
does? not come easy, and does require work and effort from us. You will find
that most 'overnight successes' have been working hard for that success for
many years. Failure is not something to be feared or worried about, because we
can never fail! Everything we do, no matter whether we view it as a success or
failure is a valuable lesson for us to learn. By looking at a perceived
failure as a valuable lesson, it no longer feels as bad. The only true failure is
not learning the lessons our mistakes teach us.

23. The Ongoing Journey
Our journey of exploration through life never, ever stops. The
destination is not the reward or the goal. The journey to the destination is the
goal itself.

24. Don't Mind
If we take an objective view of our mind, then we can see that lots
of thoughts drift through it, many of which we are unaware of. A sad,
angry or fearful thought may drift up from the sub-conscious and change how we
feel for no apparent reason. We must take control of the mind through tools such
as meditation, and become aware of these thoughts and realize them for
what they are. Then, we can let them go and stay relaxed and centered. By
consciously focusing on our breathing, and keeping it deep and even, we can help
to release these negative thoughts.

25. Emotions
Emotions come and go. They flow through us all the time, often
without us even realizing. Many of us do not express our emotions because we
feel we have to "Be manly" or "Be responsible" or "Be cool". When we feel the
negative emotions, we can feel our bodies tense. If we do not express these
emotions when we feel them, the tension is stored within our bodies. Having
emotions is not to be feared and should be celebrated. When you feel an emotion -
express it!  If you are happy - smile and laugh, if you are sad cry.
Expressing your emotions releases the tension they give, and helps you live more
fully in the here and now. Once you have expressed an emotion, it is gone and will
not return with the same force for that situation. If we refuse to
express them and store the emotions up, then, like damming a fast river, eventually
the water level will rise too high if we do not provide it with an outlet.

26. Play
As children, we play exuberantly. We have fun, enjoy ourselves and
have lots of energy. Then something happens, we grow up, and we no longer play
believing that adults have to be adult and they don't play. Playing
is one of our greatest sources of pleasure. It takes many forms, from sport to
games to laughing and joking with friends. Playing increases our energy and
makes us more positive. It makes those around us more positive and generally lifts
the spirits? of all involved. There are times to be serious, yes, but
there are times to play too, and that is what we must not forget.

Sue, I really understand your frustration. I have a Facebook account with many friends and relatives as friends. Recently, I have added co-workers and even supervisors from where I work. I am very outspoken about being a witch and try to use this networking site as a way to educate people about our beliefs. I don't feel I am offensive, just honest. I try to be as respectful as I can to those of differing opinions and am rarely combative in my comments. Even so, I have a Christian cousin who dumped me as a friend and didn't have the courtesy or the courage to even offer an explanation.

In my head, I can be reasonable and rational about it. I'm aware that this is her choice and I shouldn't let it bother me. My emotions, on the other hand, are an entirely different story.

I have to confess that I feel both angry and hurt. Much like you, I am stung by the hypocrisy of it all. The narrow-mindedness of some people is just so frustrating. With this being said, I still don't think it's a good idea for you to lash out at your partner's parents. I think this may cause strain between you and your significant other, and will do nothing for easing tensions between you and the parents.

I too felt like lashing out. I composed a scathing letter to my cousin in my mind(which I never wrote or sent) and had to battle some pretty dark thoughts. It's much easier to be rational when you are outside of a situation, but when you are still licking freshly made wounds, it's kind of tough. What worked for me is taking my outrage to the Gods. I told them exactly how I felt and even what I felt tempted to do. Since they aren't blown away by my dark thoughts or feelings, I was able to get everything off my chest. What I like about venting to them is there seems to be a release of tensions afterward and I am able to see things in a different light.

I would strongly suggest that you too light a candle and address the Gods before doing anything impulsive. In ceremony I tend to be more formal, but when I talk to them on a personal level, I use my common day language. I'm pretty sure they know how I talk in my everyday life anyway, so I don't think they would be impressed or fooled if I used pious language anyway.

I am very sorry this happened to you and I wish you the very best in sorting through it.

BB,
Hawkshill

True, at this time, for whatever reason (and I'm not really sure why it's happening, just that it is), I seem to have lost my belief and sureness. I am apparently very good at visualization however (didn't realize it really until I did a quiz on the ability to visualize, then describe items, etc. and ended up scoring almost perfect score!)--it's not whether I am able to visualize the outcome of what I do--it's my failing to believe in myself at this time. Things have actually begun to pick up in some ways in my life, so maybe this is my worry that the good things won't last?? I don't know--I am working on it though. In the past, I believed and KNEW who and what I was. Now, I seem to be floundering...but, I keep trying. If there is one thing I am, it is a survivor---I get knocked down a lot, but I keep getting back up, even if it doesn't seem to be the best idea at the moment. Kind of stubborn that way LOL

Still having Internet troubles and with another big storm coming in, I am sure
it will be worse.  I just wanted to wish you a Blessed and Peaceful and most of
all a great New Year.  I have attached all the graphics if you would like to use
them.  I also put in some links for the stations that will play the Rose Parade
I assume that they will also be online.  The fighter jets are already flying
around and the bleachers are already up down in Pasadena, they have been for a
while now.  So for now I am waiting on the next storm coming in.

I know I am sending this way early but getting online is so iffy till they come
to fix it, I thought I would take the opportunity.

NOVA: The Mummy Who Would Be King

The NOVA companion site to the television production of The Mummy Who Would Be King aired on PBS. "It is a tantalizing idea and an outrageous long-shot: a shriveled mummy with crossed arms that has lain neglected on a dusty museum shelf at Niagara Falls could be the remains of a long-lost Egyptian king." This king could possibly be Rameses I. Read the interview with and listen to the audio of Egyptologist Salima Ikram for an introduction to 'The Afterlife' and 'Making Mummies.' Find out 'Who Was Rameses I' and check the possibility that 'another crypt as rich as King Tut's [might] still lie buried in Egypt's fabled Valley of the Kings.' As usual, PBS presents an excellent resource for researching history and in this case, highlighting the wonders of forensic science.

Namaste

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:16 pm (PST)

Namaste

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine
spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture
is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama"
means bow, as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me
you" or "I bow to you." To perform Namaste, we place the hands together at the
heart chakra, close the eyes, and bow the head. It can also be done by
placing the hands together in front of the third eye, bowing the head, and then
bringing the hands down to the heart. This is an especially deep form of
respect. Although in the West the word "Namaste" is usually spoken in
conjunction with the gesture, in India, it is understood that the gesture itself
signifies Namaste, and therefore, it is unnecessary to say the word
while bowing. We bring the hands together at the heart chakra to increase
the flow of Divine love. Bowing the head and closing the eyes helps the mind
surrender to the Divine in the heart. One can do Namaste to oneself as a
meditation technique to go deeper inside the heart chakra; when done with
someone else, it is also a beautiful, albeit quick, meditation.

Magical Clothing

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:19 pm (PST)

Magical Clothing

A Full Moon shines, the breeze picks up, and caped figures gather to celebrate in ritual and song. All are dressed in fine ritual wear bought at Renaissance fairs or from magical vendors, but few are wearing truly magical garments of power. Truly powerful magical garments must contain the physical essence, perceptions, and intention of the wearer's spirit.

This psychic investment can only be achieved through the actions of the wearer. You cannot buy it or trade for it. While these wonderful cloaks and other clothing offered for sale are a greet place to start, what yo add to them--and the way you do it--is what will transform a beautiful, but impersonal, garment into a powerful and extraordinary one. Ancient shamans, priestesses, wizards, and healers adorned themselves and their clothing with things that held special meaning for them, things that held power and expressed the spirit of magic.

Your spirit and your journey are like no one else's; you are a unique expression of the universe's energy. Why should your magical adornments and clothing be manufactured just like thousands of others? Any cloak can easily be adorned with beads, shells, thread, ribbon, or other personal effects to make it the expression of your own magical journey. The more you focus your energy into a piece of clothing, the more powerfully charged it will become for your magical work.

The first rule of living a magical life is claiming your own power and learning to trust your own perceptions. All magic and spell work flow from this simple beginning. Just as creating an altar is a way of defining your ritual workspace, adding ornaments to your clothing can define your sacred personal body space.

Creating magical garments is like a blessing spell you cast over yourself and your ritual work. Each stitch, each bead, each detain has a transformative power that adds deeper meaning and potency to your garment. Like planting a garden, the work put into a piece of magical clothing can grow to become beautiful and soul nurturing. All who see such a handworked piece will be enriched and enchanted by its uniqueness and beauty.

Visualize your personal magical clothing in meditation or ritual. Ask the universe to guide you in creating it. Be open to influences from different cultures and eras--even different aspects of yourself. Opening yourself to this creativity is the beginning of a mystical journey of exploration that will last a lifetime. What you create now will likely evolve over time as you wear it in rituals and celebrations.

There is no end to the wonderful pieces of ritual clothing you can create. If you sew, that is great, but sewing is not essential--manufactured clothing is OK. The base clothing you use for your magical ritual wear can be anything you like, as long as the fabric is strong enough to carry the adornments you add to it without ripping or sagging.

An ordinary cloak can be painted, beaded, embroidered, appliqued, or ornamented along the hem, around the hod, across the back, or left plain on the outside and elaborately decorated on the inside. You can create anything you can imagine. Often, the final design can stem from the first embellishment, so sit with the item you want to make more powerful, and in time your inspiration will come.

Starting Your Magical Wardrobe

A beautiful shoulder mantle can be made with a simple piece of square fabric one yard long. Versatile garments, shoulder mantles can be worn over any dress, shirt, or robe, making them a good place to start if you aren't sure what you want to do. Choose sturdy velvet, cotton, or other comfortable fabric with a tight weave that will drape well. Fold the fabric in half (straight or diagonally), cut a slit in the center of the folded edge for a head hole, and finish the edge with stitches or iron-on binding tape. The outside edges can be finished in the same way, or frayed to make a short fringe. Before you begin adding to the mantle, ask yourself a few simple questions.

What is important to me? Do I like simple or fancy? Do I want subtle or bright colors? Do I want things hanging down from the mantle or not? Do I want a woodsy feel or a more urban feel? Ancient or futuristic? Do I want to add items to my mantle over time? DO I want to make it for all rituals or do I want a specific element like earth, air, fire, or water? Do I want to dedicate it to a specific goddess or god? Do I want to make an animal energy shamanic mantle? DO I want my mantle to jingle or make a sound when I walk? DO I want to use paints or not? Once you know the answers to these questions, you will know how to create a mantle that is uniquely yours.

For a natural ocean feel, yo can add shells--loose shells from inexpensive shell necklaces are great because the shells are already drilled. If you live near the ocean, try adding dried seaweed, tiny driftwood pieces, or beach glass. Seashores and riverbanks can offer some amazing treasures that are perfect for your purposes. You can also add blue, aqua, green, or sandy-colored beads, thread, or ribbons, which can be sewn or tied on with embroidery floss (thread) or clear fish line. You will need to poke a hole in the fabric with a thick needle to put the floss or line through when tying pieces to the fabric. If you hot-glue items to your clothing, it is a good idea to also add a piece of thread over three sides of the piece to make sure they stay in place.

A wooded-groove feel can e created using small fallen twigs, dried moss, seedpods, acorns or other nuts, as well as long strands of grass or wheat, which can be woven or braided. Fresh leaves or flower petals can be ironed between two sheets of wax paper to preserve them, then cut out and sprayed with lacquer to seal them and to prevent melted wax from seeping out later. Small stones can be wrapped with floss and hung so they sway slightly and clink together softly when you move. Bark, willow roots, beads--you can use just about anything you like.

Feathers can also be used in interesting ways, but feathers should always be decontaminated by washing and letting them dry, and then spraying with a tick and chigger repellent spray. This is very important because bird feathers have many types of parasites. (If you want to skip this step, store-bought feathers have already been cleaned and treated.) Once cleaned, feathers can be added individually or in rows to create an amazing garment. Beads can be slipped onto the quill before sewing or tying into place.

For a more futuristic feel, silver-colored washers with a center hole can be tied onto the mantle, and beads can be placed in the hole. Chips, circuits, and other computer parts, metal bits, holographic fabric, brass items, parts from broken appliances, and tiny mirrors can be added. Wire can be braided or woven together in all kinds of shapes.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, personal treasures often make wonderful additions to ritual clothing. Charms, crystal pendants, amulets, small sturdy keepsakes, buttons, or bits of fabric from cherished clothes or old ritual garments can be added. Mementos of childhood or special moments also can find a place n your ritual wardrobe. Painting your ritual clothes with acrylic or fabric paints is also a wonderful way to make them your own. Painted scenes, creatures, goddesses, Green Man, magical symbols, or simple areas of color and texture work well. You are the creator and whatever you are drawn to create will be an expression of your magical self.
These suggestions will work equally well for cloaks, robes, pants, tunics, shoes, or any other kind of magical clothing. Cloaks with Celtic interlaces can be ornamented by edging the interlaces in gold and silver thread.

One of the most wonderful ways to create a powerful piece of ritual clothing is to add a memento from each ritual you participate in--a pebble, a twig, stone, flower petal, ribbon, or bit of fabric. Every time you put your magical garment on, you will be calling forth the energy and power of all those past rituals and celebrations and wrapping yourself in their power. Whatever you create, may you walk in magic always!

The Magic of Time

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Tue Dec 28, 2010 10:21 pm (PST)

The Magic of Time

Time is a great mystery, hidden within the ordinary. From the
earliest human experiences, time has been a focal point of our thought and
actions. Time is the mystery of things becoming and unbecoming. Shaman and
mystics leap into the unknown streams of alternative time and bring back visions,
prophecies, and secrets. It is within these realms of altered time
that all mystical experiences occur.

Stonehenge, Chaco Canyon, the pyramids of Giza, Mystery Hill, Mayan
pyramids, and ancient structures all over the world mark important
times of the year for the people who built them. We are just beginning to understand
how amazingly sophisticated these structures are in computing the passage
of time. Our calendars today measure our time just as the ancients measured
their time. The Chinese, the Hopi, the Maya, the Aztec, western society, and
others all have time and relating it to significant events, past and future.
Some of the world's calendars are based on the Sun and some are based on the
Moon. We all slip into the "stream of time" at our birth, and flow along
within it for the rest of our lives. Our individual journeys are as unique as
the ways we interact with time throughout our lives. Astrology is based on
the exact time and place we enter the stream of time. Each point in the flow
of time has its own properties, characteristics, challenges, and gifts.

Transcending time has always been the great dream of humanity.
Ancient people called upon shaman, priestess, and priest to guide them
through the mysteries of alternative time. Hindus and Buddhists speak of
escaping the wheel of time's endless cycle of reincarnations. Christians, Jews, and
Muslims speak of eternity, and many tribal religions speak of the ancestors and
the time before. At the center of all religious and mystical experience is
time.

Our thoughts and speech are filled with words relating to time. We
speak of then, now, soon, when, later, tomorrow, today, yesterday, future,
past, and never. We often talk about "a long time ago" or sometime in the
future," and about good times or bad times, running out of time and having enough
time. There is no denying the human connection with matters of time.

We measure time by moments, seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks,
months, years, decades, centuries, millennia, eternity. With the passage of
each, we sort, analyze, discard, or save. Our holidays are all celebrations
of a certain point in time. They mark our births or someone else's or
the moment something great occurred. History, archaeology, physics, geology,
cosmology, and astrology are all deeply concerned with time. It is as if our own
internal clocks drive us to anchor time in the world around us in some
concrete way. It is this need that drives our human obsession with time. Our
connection with time is at the foundation of all we call sacred and magic.

Dusk and dawn are times of the day often referred to as
being "between time." Many believe the fabric of ordinary time is stretched thin as
these brief transition points between day and night. These are the hours that
stir a sense of the eternal and timeless in all of us. It is as if we
sense the coming and going of the Sun from our space and time prompts us to take some
sort of sacred action. These mystical hours signal us to stop and
experience our own eternal selves, the selves that live beyond the bounds of time.
A sunrise touched our ancient ancestors as powerfully and profoundly as it
touches us. the vibrant dimming or growing of the light as the Sun merges with
the horizon inspires transcendent feelings. At these times, we most
easily sense our own powers to move between ordinary and mystical time.

The Metaphysics of Time

Thousands of years ago the ancient Hindus looked deep into time and
formed beliefs. The accuracy of some of these insights are being reaffirmed
by modern physicists and cosmologists. "Deep field" pictures from the
Hubble telescope have thrown scientists into a quandary about what modern
science believed was true about time. These deep-space pictures defy quantum
physics' view of time. Now many leading scientists say time travel could be
possible, and there is much speculation about parallel universes, eleven
dimensions, and the multiverse.

Metaphysics and physics are dancing together, mingling ideas about
time and space from both new theories and ancient beliefs. Unique theories of
time have come from Plato, Socrates, Copernicus, Aristotle, Nostradamus,
Einstein, Hawking, Godel, Kozyrev, Stienhardt, Turok, Lynds, and many others.
Science is magic, an magic is science; in today's reality they are not very
far apart, and yesterday's science fiction is becoming today's science fact.

Today, magical rituals and celebrations are held after creating a
symbolic space. this ritual space is considered to be outside the stream of
ordinary time and space. We all understand instinctively that time is
powerful, mystical, and can be transformed, yet few of us consciously practice
working with alternative modes of time.

Can you work with time and alter it in your own life? You already
do, although you may not be aware of it. We know that time can be
manipulated and stretched, compressed, lengthened and shortened--or at least our
perception of it can be.

When you are excited, changes happen that affect time. Your heart
races, your metabolism speeds up, colors brighten, sounds amplify,
everything comes into clearer focus, and time slows down. that is because your
perception of time is stretching and your brain has a chance to really notice
these things.

When you are resting or sleeping, your metabolism slows down and time
seems to speed up, passing more quickly. When we age, our metabolism slows
down, and this is why the older we get the faster time seems to go. Young
people experience faster time too; sometimes the hours of play speed by and
you can't really account for how you spent them. This is not a fantasy; this
is a fact of how time interacts with our minds and bodies. You feel there is
less time, and you are right--there is less time.

Metaphysical time works in similar ways. A shaman or yogi can go
into a trance state that alters his metabolism, speeding or slowing his
experience of time, while people around him are still living in "ordinary time."
Some claim that in a trance state they can slow time to the point where it
moves backwards into the past, or speed it forward into the future. Others
claim to be able to step into the stream of time at any point they desire.

Temporal Experiments

Experiment with time for yourself. Put paper, pen, and a clock on
the floor. Sit down quietly and relax, slowing your breathing. Look at
the clock and mark the time down on paper. Put the clock behind you and don't look
at it again till you think ten minutes have passed. Draw doodles, write
your thoughts, or just sit there. Don't get excited or anxious, just
be. When you think it has been ten minutes, look at the clock again and mark down
the time.

Compare the times. How close did you come to the minutes? Is there
a difference in the amount of time you spent doing the experiments?
Are you surprised by the results? If this is your first conscious exercise
in working with time shifting it may take a few tries to understand. Try again in a
few days. Soon, with practice, you will be able to adjust your
perception of time with your mind.

Mastering this simple skill will allow you to swim freely in the
stream of time, changing it as needed. The magic of time is a journey worth
exploring.
