This has come at the right time for me. Lately, in my life, I have been depressed and thinking that I will never be able to achieve what I need and want. However, in reality, things in my life haven't been going that badly.

I want a better job, one that is more in line with what I trained for and want to do with my life...but, I have apparently helped at least one (or possibly more) of the ladies in my group (one of my jobs). One seems to have turned a corner in her life and become more focused on her life rather than on what she once had with her ex, another thought enough of me to tell me about a job opening that pays better and has better benefits at her place of employment (sadly, I don't have the right qualifications)and say she would put in a good word for me. Another came to me to say she was thinking about/planning suicide...I hope I helped her, at least she hasn't acted on her plans. So, maybe this job is the one for me--it is helping me help others.

Money is a constant issue for me these day--never enough. I still need money for taxes and haven't managed to find it, yet...I got small bonuses at both my jobs, something that never happened before. While they weren't enough to fill all my needs, they did save me from total disaster. So, the rest surely will come.

I have more people and family reaching out to me than before, yet I find it harder for me to reciprocate...I often wish for more connections with people, yet here it is and I don't use it.

I do my little things, my prayers or spells, however they are called, not truly expecting them to work....yet, it seems they do (at least to some extent).

I must have more faith in me and my life and what "grace" can grant me, if only I am willing to believe and to accept it. I am attempting to regain myself and my belief in life. This "as above, so below" is so true---perhaps in my case, I should pay more attention, you know?

Thank you, Lady, for posting exactly what is needed at the right time.

I'm new here and I am devouring books constantly on Wicca and one thing I
keep reading is when you do a spell you have to visualize your spell
working. It doesn't sound like you expect your spells to work and it also
sounds like you don't think you are worthy. This is just my humble opinion
from someone that is also trying to gain self esteem.

I have just recently done this to myself...worried so much about taking my new car out of town that I caused a problem with it. Its a high speed turbo volvo...I was worried about kicking that turbo in too much and sure enough. I made it to Denver and back and was thinking what a relief, as I was so worried about it...well upon taking my son home it started making a horrible noise, so I turned around and took it home and parked it. The worrying about it cost me a part that is $2,000 plus the mechanics time, and of course it was the catalytic converter which is connected to the turbo. I have been trying to change this pattern lately. I had kind of figured that I worried my poor car into breaking down. The real kicker is that I just got the car two weeks before that, I haven't even made the first payment on it yet....

Blessed Be

There should be a warranty on it if it is new. I'd check into that.

Every time my friend Chris would drive his truck, he would always mention something like "I know it's not going to make it," or I bet I'm going to run out of gas." It was no surprise that he had multiple problems with the vehicle. I think I finally pounded into his brain that he was causing the problems himself by putting the thought out into the Universe. Self-sabotage works on all levels.

Visualizing your spell working is an important part of spellcasting. I call it "remote viewing." Visualize the spell from start to finish, with the finish being the result you hope to gain from the spell. Then, don't dwell on it. Let it take it's natural course.

A Prosperity Charm for the New Year

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

A Prosperity Charm for the New Year

The changing of the year has always been a time fraught with magic, and every culture has its superstitions and lore about how this brief moment in time should be observed in order to ensure a happy and prosperous new year. One of the most prevalent of these customs is that one must start the new year with money in their pocket if they wish to find any there during the upcoming year.

To make a magical money charm to attract wealth to your own empty pockets you will need a small square of green or gold cloth and a matching ribbon, several coins, a few small cinnamon sticks, and some patchouli oil. Early on New Year's Eve spend some time fondling the coins, infusing them with your desire for prosperity. When you have done this for as long as you can, place a drop of patchouli oil on each of them and place them, with the cinnamon sticks, in the center of the cloth. Pull up the ends of the fabric and tie the top shut. Place the charm in your pocket or purse which will be with you when the year turns.

At midnight, or whenever else you (or your magical tradition) observe the change of time, hold it tight and remember that it is there for you, releasing its wealth of magic for the coming year.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - December 27

"When temptation comes, I don't say, `Yes," and I don't say, `No.' I say, `Later,' I just keep walking the Red Road - down the middle. When you're in the middle, you don't go to either extreme. You allow both sides to exist."

-- Dr. A. C. Ross (Ehanamani), LAKOTA

We need to practice controlling our focus. Whatever we focus on we become. We also become whatever we practice. We need to focus on balance. Whenever something comes along to tilt us off balance, we need to be grateful, because it allows the opportunity to practice our focus. Sometimes this is called temptation. Temptation in itself is not bad. What really counts is what we do with it when it happens. We need to practice controlling our focus and keeping our thinking focused on the Red Road.

Great Spirit, today, guide me through my temptations and allow me to focus on the Red Road.

Cleaning for a Reason
If you know any woman currently undergoing chemotherapy, please pass the word to her that there is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once per month for 4 months while she is in treatment. All she has to do is sign up and have her doctor fax a note confirming the treatment. Cleaning for a Reason will have a participating maid service in her zip code area arrange for the service. This organization serves the entire USA and currently has 547 partners to help these women. It's our job to pass the word and let them know that there are people out there that care. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along.

I am in Massachusetts and there are those really strange ones that want push
through laws on this, that or twenty-five other things. But after moving away
then returning here.I realized that each state has its own weird little niche of
those in power. Doesn't mean we have to follow them like sheep. Look at them and
in a somewhat endearing voice..that they are only there becuase someone elected
them and the next election will change matters , we are meant to be a government
by and for the people. Right now they are warming that seat for the next one to
sit there. There will be no damaging the texture of the upholstery.

The Festival of the Hag

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:03 pm (PST)

The Festival of the Hag

Hagmenai (Hag's Moon) was celebrated on New Year's Eve in Britain up to the nineteenth century. Fires were set ablaze at midnight, which was the beginning of the Celtic day. Tables were laden with special foods, and the savory aromas mingled with the laughter that filled the air. In the flaring light of the fire, there was dancing and singing and joyous celebration. Groups of people held hands and danced in circles and spirals, reaffirming
their connection to the eternal cycle.

The word Hag, from the Greek "hagia," originally meant "holy one," as in "hagios,", sacred. Most likely, this was derived from the ancient Egyptian word "heg," intelligence. Hekat, "vessel of female wisdom," the name of one of the oldest Egyptian Goddesses, was derived from "heg," as was the name of
Hecate, the oldest Greek version of the triform Goddess.

It is interesting to note that the sacred Stone of Scone, which rests beneath the coronation throne in Westminster Abbey, was originally called the Hag of Scone. Medieval legend tells us that this Hag was a Pagan goddess who was turned to stone after being cursed by a missionary of the new religion.

The Stone of Scone cast's one's mind back to the time when chieftains and kings were selected by tribal conclaves of elder women and inaugurated over sacred stones. It is said that the stones spoke aloud to proclaim divine acceptance of the new leader.

The ritual of Hagmenai still persists to this day in Scotland. There and in some parts of Northern Ireland, New Year's Eve is called Hogmanay. It is celebrated by the playing of bagpipes, the drinking of whiskey, punch, and hot-pint (hot ale spiced and laced with whiskey). Traditional foods, such as bannock, shortbread, haggis, and Scotch currant buns are eaten. The
celebrations go on into the early hours of morning, the next day being a national holiday in Scotland. On the morning of Hogmanay, small groups of children go from door to door, singing. They are given small gifts, usually a cake. In the Clogher Valley, Northern Ireland, mummers with blackened faces parade around with straw or rabbit skins tied around their legs, and are called Hogmanay men. Cakes are given to them as well.

A bannock is a Scottish and Northern English homemade oatcake or bread. Until this century, bannocks were made for any festive occasion. They are usually oval shaped, and cooked on a griddle. Haggis is a Scots national dish made from the minced heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep, mixed with suet, oatmeal, chopped parsley, and onion. This is seasoned and
cserved on
a large platter, surrounded with mashed turnips and boiled potatoes. Haggis means "hag's dish." Some researchers say that this is a remnant of the prehistoric rite of communion, when women ate the flesh and blood of the dead
so that they could be "born again" as new children.

Shortbread was originally a large round cake, notched at the edge, probably a descendant of the Yule bannock, which was notched to symbolize the Sun's rays.

Traditional Shortbread

1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup rice flour
1 cup sugar
2 cups butter
Milk, if necessary

Mix together the flours and sugar. Work the butter into the flour mixture with your fingers until it is well mixed. If the dough is too crumbly, it can be moistened with milk (use the milk sparingly). Roll dough on floured board to about 3/4" thickness, and cut as desired. (You can cut small shapes,
or form the entire recipe into a circle). Flute the edges and prick all over with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-45 minutes until light golden brown.

As Above, So Below--Part 2

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:04 pm (PST)

As Above, So Below--Part 2

Here is a very simple experiment you can do to illustrate the effects of As Above, So Below, As Within, So Without. This illustrates how your will and focus make the circuit work. The next time you are having a low day, maybe feeling a bit under the weather or just have a case of the blues, instead of laying around in sweat pants, force yourself to get all cleaned up, put on that outfit that looks really good, groom your hair, and run a couple of errands. When you look good and you know it, you send that message up to the higher realm, and then you start to feel it! Whatever takes place on the spiritual plane is reflected in the physical plane. Changing your appearance is the tool by which you send that change to the spiritual plane. You will notice that other people will see it too, and by the end of the day, you have changed your energy. By changing what is "without," you have changed what is "within," and vice versa.

Here's a personal example. I had a day off work, and had been doing artwork all day in my classic "day off" ensemble: a baggy paint-spattered tee shirt, my oldest jeans, no makeup, and hair in a scraggly bun and secured with a pencil. Wow, cover of Vogue not so much! I was picking my husband up from work that evening when he told me that a band I used to do artwork for years ago was playing in the bar next door and they really wanted me to come over and see them! I panicked! In my old rock'n'roll days, I prided myself in dressing the part, and here I was, looking like a deranged refugee! In fact, I wouldn't be caught dead at the drugstore at 2 AM in the morning like that, much less at my friends' gig. We lived too far away for me to go change, so I smoothed myself down the best I could and used the only glamour I had at my disposal--my magic. I sent the image in my head of how I wished to be perceived into the spirit realm and brought it back into my solar plexus, let it swirl around a bit, and then expanded it until it encircled me. I walked into that bar confident with my head held high. And you could tell, no one saw that I had spent a day hunched over my art table with pencils between my teeth, they just saw me as they remembered, as I wanted them to.

How did I do it? As Above, So Below, As Within, So Without! I sent my will into the higher realm and instead of focusing on how unkempt I thought I looked, I focused on an image of confidence. Then I moved that thought inside of myself and manifested it over my physical appearance. Did I physically look different? No. But I used my will to complete the circuit in order to feel different and be perceived differently. We call it a glamoury spell, but it is also the Law of Correspondence in action. One's outer self is a reflection of one's inner self. What is manifested is whatever corresponds with your dominant patterns of thinking, whatever those patterns may be.

The act of doing spellwork can be a powerful catalyst for manifesting change through the Law of As Above, So Below. There is nothing wrong with attempting to create that spiritual change without ritual, candles, runes, stones, and herbs. The technique of manifesting without any tools is one that we teach in the more advanced degrees within my coven, and it is just as magical as using all the bells and whistles. The act of doing spellwork, however, is very beneficial when trying to enact the principle of As Above, So Below, especially when we are seeking a big change, because ritual can create a very strong adjustment within ourselves and how we relate to the spiritual realm. Spellwork is a tool by which you can change what is in yourself and your thoughts about the world around you, therefore allowing you to send the right energies into the astral realm in order to complete the circuit of manifestation. Yes, basically, if you simply focus on what you want and refuse to give any energy to what you don't want, you can manifest good things in your life. You don't have to cast a spell to do that. But if you are in a place where you have spent a lot of years, for example, thinking that you will always be broke, one of the best ways to help you send the opposite message to the universe is to alter your own perception and the thoughts you are focusing on prosperity through spellwork.

This is an important realization for us as magical practitioners. When we can see that this is how magic works, we an better create our spellwork around the concept and we can better bring about what we really want. The example of my old friend Jean comes to mind. Jean had been doing spellwork to open herself up to love. She didn't have anyone in mind, but she was looking for her perfect match. She had been working magic for several months and wasn't having any luck, so she asked me if I would look over her spells to see what she was doing wrong. As I read one of the spells she had written, it became glaringly obvious, she stated over and over within her spell "I don't want to be alone anymore. I'm tired of feeling so alone, and I just need someone to fill this empty void," etc. Sheesh! I said, "Honey, these are the loneliest, most depressing spells I have ever read! This is what you are sending out there, so it's what you're getting back!" So we sat down and talked about what she did want as opposed to what she didn't want. We reworded what she had been doing with positives, "I want to spend time with someone I enjoy being with, I want to feel a sense of belonging. I am full of love that I wish to share with someone deserving of my generous heart." Guess what? Jean was dating a great guy within a month! All that time, she had been manifesting what she was focusing on, which was exactly what she didn't want. Once she focused on what she did want, she got it! The spellwork helped her consciously change her way of looking at love, and therefore she completed the circuit and activated the Law of Correspondence: As Above, So Below.

When you apply these concepts to your magic, you have the power to create change in your life, and you can do it every day. As Buddha said, "What you think, you become."

Putting the 'Earth' Back in Earth Faith

Putting the 'Earth' Back in Earth Faith: Simple Ideas for the Modern Pagan

I awoke this morning to the sound of cracking wood and machinery. I knew
that the property on the edge of my neighborhood had been sold to the developers
of a new strip mall, but it just didn't seem real until I saw the "corpses"
of trees just beyond my backyard. The trees run along the edge of a cornfield
that was always a lovely reminder of the changing seasons and the part of my
faith's roots that lies in the cycles of early agriculture. The previous
autumn's harvest would be the last. As I looked around my yard, at everything
blooming on this lovely spring morning, and the woodland carnage beyond, it got
me thinking about our Great Mother Earth.

Can I Really Make A Difference?

It's easy for us sometimes as modern Pagans to get so caught up in everyday
living that we let the big picture get put aside. We may grab coffee in a
Styrofoam cup instead of a refillable one, or toss the can in the trash instead
of the recycle bin. Most of us have jobs, families, deadlines, and mortgages.
As we bustle through our everyday lives, sometimes it's just easy to go for
convenience and forget, dare I say it, the basis of our faith: Reverence for
The Great Mother Earth. In much the way a child may take for granted their
mother and the care she offers unconditionally, we also sometimes forget our
Great Mother, and all she gives us. Now, if you realize that you have done this
from time to time, don't beat yourself up over it: Just decide to make a
change. Even little things can make a difference. We must make a conscious effort
to not only remember The Mother Earth and honor Her in spirit, but in deeds.
If we ask so much of Her and offer nothing in return except our prayers and
hopes, she will eventually wear out, and who will care for us then?

There are so many ways that we can honor Her in deed as much as we do in
thought; it's not that hard in our modern society. Clearly recycling any items
that we can is a good start, as well as purchasing items that have been
recycled. Carpooling, especially with the gas prices being so high, can help the
Mother and us as well. Trying to use reusable items instead of disposable: For
instance, bringing a nice cup from home to the office for coffee instead of
using Styrofoam ones that you toss every day. Over a whole year that really
adds up!

We also should remember that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Writing letters
to our heads of government and big corporations to let them know that the
environment is an important issue to us can give the Great Mother a voice where
she needs it. Let the powers that be know that our votes and our buying
power can be affected by the environmental policies they address. She speaks to
us, so we have to bring her message to those people who can make the big
difference. We are her voice, we are her hands, and we are her heart. She needs us
just as much as we need Her.

Make It Magick

How can we ask the spirits of nature to help us with our magickal workings
if we offer nothing in return? I'm sure they appreciated the wine we pour on
the ground or the cakes we leave, but wouldn't an effort, even a small effort,
to preserve the environment that sustains the nature spirits be equally, if
not more appreciated?

Why not add magickal intent every time you drop something in the recycle
bin, or reuse that butter dish as Tupperware, or wait an hour to go the grocery
store so you can pick up the kids at the same time, thus saving gas. By
simply acknowledging that your actions are part of your faith, it becomes not a
chore, but a spiritual act. A simple charm may help enforce the idea, something
like:

"In this I act to honor you,
My Mother Earth, my faith is true."

Then intend that the energy that is saved by your actions will go to heal
the earth.

How about physically healing the earth? What I mean is, getting some dirt
under your nails on your next day off, and planting some life back into the
earth! Gardening is a great way to balance some of the damage done to our
planet. The more growing places on our earth, the better. The more trees we plant,
the better off our air is, and our good vibes as well. There are a lot of
good books on Magickal Gardening out there; pick one up and see where it takes
you.

A Spell To Heal The Earth

You will notice that I have saved this for last. That is because the spell,
without backing it up with mundane acts of kindness to our Earth, becomes
merely a hollow act.

Set up your circle outside if you can, but inside will do just fine. You
will need:
* One small, cheap quartz crystal - either a point or tumbled is fine
* Healing incense - rosemary or sandalwood work nicely
* A small brown or green candle - white is an all purpose substitute
* Healing oil - rosemary or a blend
* A garden spade
Cast your circle and call in the elements as you normally do. Anoint the
candle with healing oil and carve healing symbols on it if you wish. Place the
crystal at the base of the candle. Focus on the healing power coming from the
candle and incense, and feel it filling the circle. Repeat the following
incantation several times until you feel the power strongly...

"I call upon the Universal Power
that flows through everything.
My Earth, my Mother is in need,
I bring to her this healing deed.
By warming sun and cooling breeze,
to ancient mountains, towering trees,
to mysterious oceans pulled by the moon,
to fertile soil from which life blooms.
I send to her loving energy,
healing power, so mote it be!"

Channel the power you have raised into the crystal, as you visualize the
earth healed and whole. Feel the visualization pulsating inside the crystal,
filling it, the way an entire oak is contained inside a tiny acorn. Close your
circle as you normally do, then take the crystal to a place outside that you
will remember, but that won't be disturbed. Bury the crystal in the ground.
The crystal is an offering and should not be retrieved, but the spell may be
repeated later if you feel it is necessary. Raise the power as before, but
charge a chalice of water or wine instead, then pour it over the place where the
crystal is buried.

Being True To Your Faith

Either right before or after doing the previous ritual would be a great time
to haul that bag of cans off to the recycling center, or write a letter to
your Congressman. Remember, not only right thoughts, but right action. We can
all find ways to better live in harmony with our planet.

Now, don't get me wrong: I am not about to give up my car and refrigerator
and go live off the land and eat berries and roots. As much as the idea of it
might appeal - and on a certain level it does - I have accepted the fact that
I am indeed a modern Pagan. If I didn't, I would not be in my comfortable
home writing this essay on my computer to post on the Internet, would I? And if
you weren't a modern Pagan, you wouldn't be reading it! I know that machines
had to tear trees down so that I could have my home and the land it is on.
But I can make an effort to take care of the resources that the Earth has
provided me with, to replace what I can, and to not take more than I need. I do
want to do my part to give back to the Mother Earth all that she has given me.
Maybe with a little faith, I can even find a way to give a little more.

The Swifting of Energy

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:11 pm (PST)

The Swifting of Energy

I remember my early days in the craft like they were yesterday they were fabulous days filled with an awesome sort of wonder I doubt I shall ever experience again. There was so much to learn, and so much to explore. Lessons waited behind every corner.

I can only hope that my teachers remember those days with equal fondness, for they definitely had their hands full. You see, students who exhibit such a rabid hunger for knowledge tend to be very focused. And while this characteristic is crucial to successful magic, it can also result in pointed questions--the likes of which tend to pop out at the most inopportune times--and the tenacity of a bulldog when the answers either seem lightweight or don't suit. In my case, though, this characteristic was also peppered with a hefty dose of sass. And as such, it's a wonder that my teachers didn't just throw up their hands in despair and run screaming from the room.

Fortunately for me, though, they didn't. They just kept teaching me, even when I stretched their patience to the max. And that being the case, I learned some very valuable lessons--things like perfect love, perfect trust, and the threefold law. I learned about deities and ritual, and other things too numerous to mention. But the most valuable thing I learned was something just as basic to the craft as the Lord and Lady, and something that no practitioner can do without. That thing was a thorough understanding of energy.

To start with, everything--whether it's a doll, or a stone, or a building in your neighborhood--is made entirely of energy. And as magical practitioners all we do is move and direct that substance. It's pretty basic stuff which most of us already know.
But here are a few other facts about energy. First, energy is just that. It's energy. There's nothing "good" or "bad" about it. It's not dark or light, positive or negative. It's simply a living, breathing force that vibrates to unlimited form and shape.

That isn't to say, however, that all energies feel the same. They don't. But it has nothing to do with the energy itself. Instead, it's the practitioner directing the energy who flavors the way it feels.

A better way to explain this might be to take a look at the pixels in a computer graphic. They are only dots of color. But when an artist moves them together in a particular order, an image forms. The pixels themselves have no control over whether the image is dreadful and gloomy or bright and cheerful. They are, after all, just dots of color. It is the artist who brings the image to light--and evokes the desired feeling from those who view it--by moving and directing the pixels in a certain fashion. The same is true of energy and the practitioner.

The other important thing to understand about energy is that it never really goes away. It never dissolves. It never dissipates. In fact, energy is probably the only thing in this world that is truly boundless and everlasting. And that being the case, it only changes shape and form.

Having learned this early on, you can imaging my reaction when someone else's teacher announced that negative energy should always be returned to the sender. I was stunned. Bewildered. And more than a little appalled. In fact, try as I might, I just couldn't keep my mouth shut.

"But that's just an effort in futility," I blurted out, "and it's certainly not going to fix the problem!"

It was the teacher's turn to be stunned, bewildered, and more than a little appalled.

"And just why not?" she retorted.

"Because if both practitioners have their shields in place, all this is going to do is cause a game of psychic volleyball. The energy's just going to bounce back and forth until someone gets tired. And we can only hope that "someone" is the practitioner who sent the energy in the first place."

The teacher's annoyance had not given way to interest, and she inquired about the solution.

I explained my belief that all energy--regardless of how it feels--is a gift. It's the very substance from which everything is created. And that being the case, it should never be sent back. Instead, it should be grabbed up, moved and directed, formed and shaped into something entirely different--something wonderful, something that could be used for personal benefit.

A smile crossed the teacher's lips, and then she began to laugh out loud. She wasn't laughing at the solution, though. Instead, it was the irony of the situation. To take someone's ill will and transform it into something personally beneficial was just plain wicked--and she didn't mind telling me so.

Of course, I laughed, too. But we both agreed that it was the perfect solution: no harm came to the sender, the transformed energy couldn't hurt anyone, and the recipient got what they wanted. Best of all, there was no violation of the Rede, so the threefold law didn't come into play. Everyone was safe. Everyone was happy. And all because the energy was used instead of returned.

That said, please think twice before returning any sort of energy to its sender. Instead, try the following instructions to shape it, form it, and use it for something wonderful. Doing otherwise only deprives you of some of the strongest magic available--magic that could, perhaps, even make the world a better place to live.

You'll need:
1 black candle
1 brown candle
1 white candle
Table salt
Metal cookie sheet
Paper and pen

Place the cookie sheet horizontally on a flat surface. Beginning at the center left-hand side of the cookie sheet, arrange the candles--first black, then brown, then white--so that they form a horizontal line. Then, using the salt, draw a horizontal line from the white candle to a point approximately three-quarters of the way to the right-hand edge of the pan. Draw an arrow tip with the salt at the end of the line, then draw a salt circle around the arrow tip to encase it.

Write your desire on the paper. This can be anything--money, a new job, love, protection, good health, religious tolerance, etc.--as long as it's for something for which you nave a need. Fold the paper into thirds, then into thirds again, and place it inside the salt circle.

Ground and center.

Light the black candle and focus on all the nasty energy coming your way. See the harm it's done, the trouble it's caused, and feel your own misery. Then name the candle for negativity.

Light the brown candle. See the energy begin to transform into something neutral, and feel the heaviness of negativity and your personal burdens lighten. Name the candle for transformation.

Light the white candle. See the energy transformation process as complete. There is nothing left but clear, bright, pure energy now--energy which you can use to manifest your desire. Name the candle for pure energy.

With your eyes, follow the salt line from the candle to the circle and focus on the paper with your intention. Visualization is very important here, for you not only need to see your desires coming to fruition, but be able to feel them as if they've already manifested. In the case of money, for example, you might see the entire room filling with hundred-dollar bills--not just so you can wade through them, but right up to your neck so you can swim in them--then feel what it's like to dive headfirst into all that cash. Smell it. Hear it rustle. Taste the bill that just touched your lips. Memorize the way it feels in your hand. You get the idea.

When the candles extinguish themselves, light the paper and leave it in the salt circle until it burns to ash. Bury the salt, ashes, and any leftover wax outdoors.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:13 pm (PST)

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, or GD, was founded in 1888 and fell
apart in a series of political struggles between 1900 and 1903. At its height,
the GD had only about a hundred active members--a small fraction of the size
of other occult organizations at the time. Yet within these limits, the GD
laid the foundations of today's magical renaissance and put together a body of
occult knowledge fundamental to magical groups ever since.

The roots of the GD lie in the magical subculture of Victorian England.
Scientific materialism had driven English occultism underground, but never quite
eradicated it. This underground was revolutionized by the founding of the
Theosophical Society in 1875. A complex mix of Eastern and Western mysticism,
Theosophy was the first non-Christian spiritual movement to gain a mass
following.

One person who saw the possibilities was Dr. William Wynn Westcott. A member
of the Theosophical Society's exclusive Esoteric Section, Westcott was a
student of Cabala, Hermeticism, and Ceremonial Magic. He was also a Freemason
with connections all through the Victorian occult underground. At some point in
1887, he came across a manuscript in an ancient cipher. Decoding it, he
found detailed outlines for a set of initiation rituals for an "Order of the
Golden Dawn." To expand the outlines into full-scale ritual texts, Westcott
turned to his friend Samuel Mathers, a brilliant, if
unstable, magician who shared many of Westcott's occult connections.
Westcott, Mathers, and another Masonic occultist, Dr. W. R. Woodman, then founded
the new Order on February 12, 1888, and began initiating members.

Around this set of events a good deal of mythology sprang up, aided and
abetted by Westcott and his associates. It was claimed that, together with the
cipher manuscripts, Westcott had found the address of a German adept named Anna
Sprengel, and received authorization from her to found the Golden Dawn.
Letters in German from Fraulein Sprengel were duly shown to members of the Order.
Those letters are obvious forgeries, written by someone whose
native language was clearly English. It's a good bet that Westcott himself
had them manufactured, and easy enough to see why. At the time, nearly all
occult groups claimed connections to "Secret Chiefs," and Westcott no doubt felt
the need to give his new Order an equally impressive background.

Fortunately, these dubious matters were not part of the main work of the GD,
which was the systematic training of its members in magical theory and
practice. Westcott and Mathers assembled papers covering everything from the
symbolism and philosophy of magic through basic, intermediate, and advanced ritual
work, to alchemy, geomancy, tarot, astrology, and many other occult
teachings. Members studied these as they worked their way through a series of
different grades.

Newcomers started in the Outer Order--the Golden Dawn proper--with the
Neophyte Grade, and advanced through the grades of Zelator, Theoricus, Practicus,
and Philosophus before finally reaching the Portal Grade, the threshold of the
Inner Order. In these outer grades, the initiate learned magical symbolism,
theory, divination, and basic rituals.

The initiate then entered the Inner Order, the Ordo Rosea Rubeae et Aureae
Crucis (Order of the Red Rose and Golden Cross). After entering the first
inner grade, Adeptus Minor, initiates tackled an intensive curriculum of magical
theory and practice. Those who mastered this went on to the next grade,
Adeptus Major, and there were plans to add even further grades and more advanced
magical studies.

What put an end to these plans was the failure of the order's system of
governance. In its early days, the order was managed by Westcott, but in 1896
rumors of his occult activities reached his employers, and he was forced to
leave the Golden Dawn to keep his job. That left the order in the hands of Samuel
Mathers, who was an incompetent manager and a tyrant to boot. Mathers'
pretensions--he insisted that the GD's members swear allegiance to him
personally--soon drove the order to open revolt.

In 1900, Mathers was deposed by a council of the Order's adepts, who set out
to establish a new constitution. The revolt stirred up a wasp's nest of
disagreements, though, and after several years of increasingly bitter politics
the GD broke apart. The largest faction, headed by Robert Felkin, renamed
itself the Stella Matutina (Morning Star); a second, headed by A. E. Waite, kept
the original name, while a third group of Mathers loyalists took the name of
Alpha et Omega. The Stella Matutina survived in a few places into the 1970s,
while the other two were long dead by that time. Meanwhile, though, the legacy
of the GD had entered a new era.

Part of this was the doing of several Golden Dawn alumni who founded new
orders of their own based in part on GD material. Dion Fortune and Aleister
Crowley, the most important of these figures, also wrote extensively about some
elements of the GD system. The most important part, though, was played by one
man: Francis Israel Regardie.

Regardie had joined a Stella Matutina lodge in the 1930s in Bristol, and
rose quickly through its grades. Appalled by the incompetence and petty politics
he found there, he decided that the GD legacy had to be made public if it
was to survive at all. His anthology, "The Golden Dawn" was published in four
volumes in 1937-1940, and has been fundamental to modern magical practice ever
since.

In recent years, several dozen new Golden Dawn temples have come into being,
drawing on published sources and (in a few cases) on links with the GD's
successor orders as well. Many of these new temples have done solid work; some
of them, though, have fallen into the same petty politics that wrecked the
original order. Still, if the new Golden Dawn revival can learn from the example
of its predecessor, the future of the tradition is bright.

26 Principles of Life

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Mon Dec 27, 2010 8:15 pm (PST)

Spiritual Guidance - 26 Principles of Life

1. All Are Related
There is a Native American saying, which translates roughly to "All
are Related". Everything in the universe is part of The Great Spirit,
from a rock, to a plant, to a fish, to a human. The spirit flows between and within
us all, and is the building block of everything. Since we are all part of the
same whole, we should treat the rest of the whole as if it is part of us,
i.e. With compassion and love. We are all part of the Great Spirit, just like
all the different leaves on a tree are still part of the tree.

2. The Energy Flow
The universe is composed of energy. This energy flows between
everything, us and within us all. When we have internal blocks, the energy fails to
flow correctly, causing illness, lethargy and other symptoms. This energy
can be directed consciously, we can see it, and feel it. How we feel affects
our energy levels; negativity drains energy, positivity creates energy.

3. We Are Beings of Both Spirit and Flesh
We are spirits, but at the same time, we are creatures of the flesh.
We inhabit both worlds simultaneously, even though we are often unaware
of it. We should not shun the flesh for spirit or vice versa. Both are equally
important. We have to walk with one foot in each of these worlds, and pay them
both attention. Neglecting either world causes distress in the other.

4. No One Entity is Superior to Another
No one being or creature is any better or greater than another. We
are all the same. We are all on different paths and have different levels of
understanding, but that does not make any one of us better than
another. Humans are not masters of nature, nor the animals and plants. They are our
companions, and co-inhabitants of this planet. We are not superior to them, nor do we
own? them. We should treat them all with respect.

5. Belief Creates
How we perceive the universe is shaped by our beliefs. If we believe
we are in a hurry, then everyone else appears to be going slow. Through
belief and positive thought, we can create virtually anything. We should believe
in our abilities and ourselves, and we will succeed. We can combine the
power of belief with that of visualization to bring anything into reality.

6. Intuition
Inside of us, a voice speaks and guides us. It is our intuition. We
can choose to ignore it or to listen to it. Once we are in tune with our
intuition and start to listen to it, we will be guided and will find that we
can? achieve more than we thought possible. We will begin to realize that the
Great Spirit works through us - often in mysterious ways, but always to our
benefit - in the long term.

7. The Higher Purpose
Everything that happens is for a reason and for the greater good. We
have to learn to look at events in our lives from more than just the normal
human perspective. We must see them from the perspective of the Great
Spirit and to look at what good will come from these events. This is the old maxim
of "is the glass half full or half empty". We can look at events badly, half
empty, and our reaction will be worse. However, should we look at events
better, i.e. Half full, then we are more positive, which means our energy is
higher, and our reaction will be better.

8. There are No Ordinary Moments
The past only exists in our memory. The future only exists as our
expectation. The only time that really exists is NOW. It is a
precious moment and we should treat every single moment as special and live it to the full. By being in the present, we have presence. To live in the now the conscious
mind should be quiet and you must focus totally on what you are doing, not what
you are going to be doing next week, or what you are going to have for
lunch.

9. There are No Limits
The only limits we have are those we place upon ourselves, or others
place upon us. To this end, we should avoid being put in a pigeonhole and
labeled by others. If someone views a dog as being vicious, then it is more
likely to be vicious. We should hold no expectations of others, and let them
be themselves, just as we should be ourselves.

10. Action not Reaction
If we are tickled, our reaction is to laugh. We should be at a state
where we do not react in a situation, but act. Reaction is unconscious,
whereas Action is conscious. We should not let past influences affect our
actions, e.g., if we were once bitten by a dog, when we next meet a dog, we should
not let the past bite affect how we act towards it. There are times to act, as
well as times to be still. By living in the present and having control of
the conscious mind, we can better direct our action.

11. Positivity Rules
Negative thoughts attract negative events and drain our energy.
Positive thoughts attract positive events and increase our energy. To this
end, we should look at our thoughts and the events which happen to us in a positive
light, realizing negative thoughts for what they are and releasing them.

12. Posture, Pose & Breathing
Energy flows through the body, as it flows through all things. If
the posture and pose are bad, the energy can not flow cleanly and causes
blockages, which manifest as pain or illness. We breathe in energy from the
world around us. Therefore, our breaths should be deep and full, coming from the
bottom of the belly, and not the chest. This enables us to maximize our energy.
Deep breathing helps relax us. When we are stressed, angry or afraid our
breathing? changes and becomes shallow and faster. By consciously controlling
our breathing and keeping it deep and even, we can release the stress, anger or
fear, enabling us to act consciously in the situation.

13. Everything in Balance
The Universe exists in a state of balance, as should we. We can do
anything we wish, but should always do it to moderation, never to excess.
Should we do things to excess, then they can become addictive, which drains energy
and may become negative. Being balanced allows us to act better in
situations. If we are sat on the fence, so to speak, we can jump off either way should
we desire to.

14. Intent is Action
You can intend to do anything, and your intent is important.
However, unless the intent is followed with action, then the intent is nothing. As
an example. I may intend to get fit, but spend all my time sat in front
of the TV eating pizza and drinking cola. I have my intention, but my actions
do not confirm or create the intention. Therefore, if you intend something,
do it, don't just talk about it. Action turns knowledge into wisdom.

15. Freedom of Choice
We all have free will, and can choose to do anything we wish. There
is no situation where we do not have choice. It may appear that we do not,
but there are always options, if we have the courage and strength to take them.
We just have to have the courage of conviction to make the decisions.

16. Change Happens
Change is continuous and is always happening around us. We cannot
actually perceive change, but can see the end result of it. Change is not a
bad thing nor is it to be feared. Through change we can grow and go forwards.

17. Taking Responsibility
Our actions cause a reaction - it is a law of nature. We have to be
aware of our actions and take responsibility for them and for the
consequences of them. It is no good doing something and then saying you did not mean
to do it. Had you not meant to do it, you would not have done it. By taking
responsibility for our actions, so we can take back our power and
freedom to choose. We have to accept that no one will live for us, and that sometimes our actions will cause others, or ourselves, a measure of discomfort. Remember
though, that discomfort is one way of helping us grow and to show us where
changes need to be made.

18. One Step at a Time
To get to any goal, break it down into a number of small steps. If
you have many small successes, then this will lead to a big success. If you
aim for a big success straight off, you may fail. Remember that a journey
towards any destination starts with a single step, and then a second and a third,
and as many as required until you reach that destination. Remember to reward
and praise yourself for your successes, however small they are. By
acknowledging them, you increase your power and will to succeed, strengthening your
belief in yourself.

19. Judgement
We have no right to judge another for their words, thoughts or
deeds. They have the freedom of choice to do as they please and act as they wish,
just as we do. We are in no position to judge anyone, as we are imperfect
ourselves. It is easily done, for example, you see a big man with tattoo's, a
skinhead and wearing leather, and the automatic assumption is that he is
trouble. He may be a florist for all we know. This colors our judgement of people
and changes how we act towards them. By having no preconceptions of
other people, we can interact better with them, and perhaps make a new friend.

20. Integrity
Integrity is all about how we act when no one is looking. We must
live to our own standards and should not judge others by them. This is about
living in line with our highest vision despite urges to the contrary.

21. Air Your Doubts
By airing your doubts, fears, and worries, by looking at them and
seeing them for what they are, so you can conquer them and rid yourself of
them forever. By refusing to confront them, so they gain power over you,
and become even more deeply rooted. After you realize what they are - release them.

22. Failure
It is very rare for us to fail. We only ever choose to stop trying.
That is us exercising our free will. We can stop trying any time we wish,
but those that succeed never stop until they get to their goal. Success often
does? not come easy, and does require work and effort from us. You will find
that most 'overnight successes' have been working hard for that success for
many years. Failure is not something to be feared or worried about, because we
can never fail! Everything we do, no matter whether we view it as a success or
failure is a valuable lesson for us to learn. By looking at a perceived
failure as a valuable lesson, it no longer feels as bad. The only true failure is
not learning the lessons our mistakes teach us.

23. The Ongoing Journey
Our journey of exploration through life never, ever stops. The
destination is not the reward or the goal. The journey to the destination is the
goal itself.

24. Don't Mind
If we take an objective view of our mind, then we can see that lots
of thoughts drift through it, many of which we are unaware of. A sad,
angry or fearful thought may drift up from the sub-conscious and change how we
feel for no apparent reason. We must take control of the mind through tools such
as meditation, and become aware of these thoughts and realize them for
what they are. Then, we can let them go and stay relaxed and centered. By
consciously focusing on our breathing, and keeping it deep and even, we can help
to release these negative thoughts.

25. Emotions
Emotions come and go. They flow through us all the time, often
without us even realizing. Many of us do not express our emotions because we
feel we have to "Be manly" or "Be responsible" or "Be cool". When we feel the
negative emotions, we can feel our bodies tense. If we do not express these
emotions when we feel them, the tension is stored within our bodies. Having
emotions is not to be feared and should be celebrated. When you feel an emotion -
express it! If you are happy - smile and laugh, if you are sad cry.
Expressing your emotions releases the tension they give, and helps you live more
fully in the here and now. Once you have expressed an emotion, it is gone and will
not return with the same force for that situation. If we refuse to
express them and store the emotions up, then, like damming a fast river, eventually
the water level will rise too high if we do not provide it with an outlet.

26. Play
As children, we play exuberantly. We have fun, enjoy ourselves and
have lots of energy. Then something happens, we grow up, and we no longer play
believing that adults have to be adult and they don't play. Playing
is one of our greatest sources of pleasure. It takes many forms, from sport to
games to laughing and joking with friends. Playing increases our energy and
makes us more positive. It makes those around us more positive and generally lifts
the spirits? of all involved. There are times to be serious, yes, but
there are times to play too, and that is what we must not forget.

10 Ways to Transform Toxic Thoughts

If you've ever felt the way anger or fear can electrify the atmosphere in a room, you'll know what Sandra Ingerman means by "toxic thoughts." The author, a family therapist and shaman practitioner, believes our thoughts and emotions transmit an invisible but palpable energy that can affect our mental and physical well-being. "Psychic punches," she writes, are as real as physical violence.

Text by Sandra Ingerman, adapted from her book, "How to Heal Toxic Thoughts: Simple Tools for Personal Transformation"

Breathe Through Your Heart
Breathing is one of the simplest ways to transform energy. This is an exercise you can do throughout your day: Place your hands on your heart and feel your heart moving as you breathe. This is calming, and feeds the energy of love, peace, and harmony in the world.

Look in a Mirror
Before reacting to a challenging situation, try emoting as you watch your reflection in a mirror. No one wants to see herself acting out in a toxic way. You may feel silly, but don't let this stop you. Taking ourselves too seriously is one of the causes of negative thoughts.

Express; Don't Send
Stress can make us act in ways we might regret later on. It is OK to have problematic emotions, and it's important to acknowledge your feelings. Just be careful not to send the energy as a "poison dart" to yourself, others, or into the world.
Think of a Favorite Face
The energy behind your emotions goes to all living beings. If confronted by someone who triggers problematic emotions for you, think of a loved one and impose his or her image on the face of the person challenging you. For example, you might work with the face of a baby, kitten, puppy, or your favorite flower.

Watch Your Words
Your words, like thoughts and emotions, have the power to change your experience and the world we live in. This applies to both the words we say out loud to others as well as self-talk. If you tell yourself that you're not a good person, you begin to manifest this reality. Fill your mind with positive words and this is how your life will unfold.
See the Divinity in Others
Never pity others who you perceive as suffering--this only pushes them deeper into a hole. When you see people in their divine light and perfection you help give them the strength they need to deal with their troubles. Remember that your perception creates your reality.

Connect With Nature
We are a part of nature. When we are in a state of stress we are cut off from the nurturing we receive from the elements -- earth, air, water, and fire (the sun) -- and we can actually become ill. Nature is a great healer. Take time out and connect with the natural world whenever you can.
Work With Water
The life-force of water can wash away your pain, and the simplest activities can have a healing effect. As you wash your hands, take a shower, or stand in the rain, visualize negative energy flowing from you and being transformed into light.

Protect Yourself With Light
If you feel someone is psychically attacking you or being energetically hostile toward you, imagine a protective light surrounding you. Some people think of a white energy field; I imagine being enclosed in a translucent blue egg. Find a color that works for you. This will protect you from any harmful energies being sent your way.

You do not have to be the receiver of negative and toxic energy from others. You can return the energy you don't wish to receive with love. Responding with love will prevent you from moving into attack position and creating more negative energy. It is only love that heals.
