Earth Day: The first Earth Day, was created by John McConnell and proclaimed by the City of San Francisco on March 21, 1970. Now commonly celebrated on April 22, this is a time for thanksgiving and celebration of Mother Earth and a time for dedication and commitment to the care of our planet. Celebrations have expanded to include the entire month of April as Earth Month.
"The earth will continue to regenerate its life sources only as long as we and all the peoples of the world do our part to conserve its natural resources. It is a responsibility which every human being shares. Through voluntary action, each of us can join in building a productive land in harmony with nature." ~ President Gerald Ford, proclaiming March 21st as Earth Day

Babylonia: Festival of Ishtar - in honor of the Goddess of love, war, fertility, childbirth, and healing.
Greece: Festival of Elaphebolia
Slavic Pagan: Lela's Holiday - Berezozol (April) 22. Today is the feast day to honor the Goddess-daughter, Lela. In Scandinavia, this day is celebrated in Odin's (Woden's) Honor. That says to us that Lela was one of the important Slavic Goddesses. Say a toast in honor of this Deity. More: http://www.irminsul.org/arc/ 010sz.html
Walpurgis/Thrimilci (22 April - 1 May) - The festival of Walpurgis, a night both of revelry and darkness. The nine nights of April 22 (interestingly enough, the modern festival of Earth Day) to April 30 are venerated as rememberance of the AllFather's self-sacrifice upon the World Tree Yggdrasil. It was on the ninth night (April 30, Walpurgisnacht) that he beheld the Runes, grasped them, and ritually died for an instant. At that moment, all the Light in the 9 worlds is extinguished, and utter Chaos reigns. At the final stroke of midnight, the Light returns in dazzling brilliance, and the bale-fires are lit. On Walpurgisnacht, the dead have full sway upon the earth; it is the ending night of the Wild Hunt. May 1 is the festival of Thrimilci; the beginning of Summer. Thrimilci is a festival of joy and fertility, much like Ostara; however, most of the Northern World is finally escaping from the snow at this time.

Goddess of The Day: Ishtar Festival of Ishtar (Babylon)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Apr 21, 2011 8:50 pm (PDT)
Goddess of The Day: Ishtar
Festival of Ishtar (Babylon)
Themes: Love; Fertility; Passion; Sexuality; Moon
Symbols: Star; Moon; Lion; Dove
About Ishtar: In Babylon, Ishtrar encompasses the fullness of womanhood, including being a maternal nurturer, and independent companion, and inspired bed partner, and an insightful advisor in matters of the heart. Having descended from Venus (the planet that governs romance), she is the moon, the morning star, and the evening star, which inspires lovers everywhere to stop for a moment, look up, and dare to dream. Saturday is Ishtar's traditional temple day, and her sacred animals include a lion and a dove.
To Do Today: Babylonians gave Ishtar offerings of food and drink on this day. They then joined in ritual acts of lovemaking, which in turn invoked Ishtar's favor on the region and its people to promote continued health and fruitfulness. If you'd like to connect with this fertile energy but have no bed partner, a magickal alternative is using symbolism. Place a knife (or athame, a ritual dagger often representing the masculine divine or the two-edged sword of magic) in a cup filled with water. This represents the union of yin and yang. Leave this in a spot where it will remain undisturbed all day to draw Ishtar's loving warmth to your home and heart.
If you have any clothes, jewelry, or towels that have a star or moon on them, take them out and use them today. Ishtar abides in that symbolism. As you don the item, likewise accept Ishtar's mantle of passion for whatever tasks you have to undertake all day.

New Beginnings Spell

New Beginnings Spell
To create new beginnings for yourself, and to do away with negativity, set up two white candles on your altar. Dress in white and place a
five-pointed star in the center of the altar between the candles. Place a drop of lotus oil on the forefinger of your power hand, and anoint each chakra in order while chanting:
All negative habits and influences are removed. I am now renewed in
strength and spirit. Open my mind, give me balance, and show me the
spiritual path I must follow. Unfold the lotus blossom now so that I may give and receive blessings. By: Sheri Richerson

The Scarlet Letter Spell

The Scarlet Letter Spell
Â
When you mail a job
resume or other important document, you want your letter to be noticed.
Apart from using a colored envelope or big commemorative stamp, what can you do? Well, you can get some powdered ginseng (it comes as an herbal
supplement at health food stores). Then, cast a circle and light a red
candle. If possible, play some trumpet music, or anything lively with
lots of brass and drums. Dust the ginseng lightly over your envelope and visualize the envelope glowing a brilliant red. Pass the envelope over
the candle several times (not close enough to scorch it or get smoke on
it!), and chant:
Â
âCrimson and gules, scarlet and red, incarnadined letter, seen clear and read.â
Â
Mail your letter as soon as possible. The energy charge will draw attention to your letter.Â

Christian Poet Hildegarde of Bingin, Item de Virginibus
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Apr 21, 2011 8:58 pm (PDT)
What greater praise can I give you than to call you
green? Green, rooted in light, shining like the sun that
pours riches on the wheeling earth; incomprehensible
green, divinely mysterious green, comforting arms of
divine green protecting us in their powerful circle.
And yet, lady, you are more than even the noblest green,
for you glow red as breaking dawn, you shine white
as the incandescent sun. Splendid virgin, none
of our physical senses can explain or comprehend you.
~Christian Poet Hildegarde of Bingin, Item de Virginibus
It is not ancient and tribal people who have found spiritual significance in nature. The great Christian Hildegarde could have been a pagan philosopher, so deeply did she embed natural imagery in her songs to the Virgin Mary. She did not intend heresy; she did not, in fact, perceive herself as especially unorthodox. But the senses spoke to her, as they spoke to other mystics of other lands and times. And she saw that this world's beauty is not antithetical to the spiritual life, but rather enhances and expresses it.
.
Thus she speaks of the divine mother in terms identifying the Virgin Mary with the great ancient Goddess of grain and of the sky. In the verses above, Hildegarde sees Mary as the sprouting spring plants, and as the sun that illuminates and nurtures their growth. No matter what our heritage or our religious tradition, we can find strength and inspiration in the feminine power of the natural world.
