Hi all,
Todays card is the Beautifal XII of Trumps from the Dark Angel Tarot
<http://www.anar-mura.com/ > . If we look at thetgimg/DrkAngl/ tr_xii.jpg
XII from the Dark Angel Tarot, and Le Pendu from the Camoin Tarot (of
Marseilles)Rx side by each
<http://www.anar-mura.com/ > ; we shouldtgimg/DrkAngl/ tr_xii_comp. jpg
note that the Hanged Man in the Camoin looks like a dancer tethered in
place. As such while he dances furiously, kicking and leaping, tossing
his mop for hair in the air, he is in point of fact going no where.
This is an old lesson encoded into this card, and it well described in
Whitely Striebers the Path; it speaks to the appearance of freedom while
we remain tied to the material world; while the card upright (the
hanging man) echo's the sacrifice of Odin on the world tree Yggdrasil,
by and through which he won the Wisdom of the Runes.
The XII of the Dark Angel Tarot (Which may be one of the most beautiful
cards I have ever seen) both Embraces and Transcends this vision; for
while the "Dancer" is in fact Tethered to Earth, she is also soaring
through the air <http://www.anar-mura.com/ >tgimg/DrkAngl/ tr_xii-b. jpg
in her card. Indeed at a glance it is difficult to tell which image is
upright and which Rx; Just as the Dark Angels have to Earth to play out
the last stage of Earth's Drama, so too this card Embraces life on
Earth; It views life on Earth as something much more than a Materialist
Trap to be rejected in search some some other 'higher' state of being;
and in doing so makes a statement that is utterly and irreducibly Pagan.
For me this card speaks to the very heart of what it is to be Pagan, to
embrace our time here in this world, to not see our lives in this world
as a cosmic mistake, or Karmic punishment; to not reject this world as a
way station on our way to a better place; to embrace our existence in
this flesh; to say to oneself I am ensouled here for a reason, to
embrace ones intent, and to soar in that world. In the XII Rx the Dance
is almost a bird soaring through the frame of the card, Yes she is
Tethered to the Earth, but so too is a bird Tethered to the Earth; Even
the Eagle and the Condor free as they are must eventually return to the
earth.
But it is the XII upright that commands my Attention, like a Pilot in an
Immelman Turn she inverts her course in mid flight, an statement of
skill, grace and courage; this is our Dark Angel about sever her link
with the Heavens and embrace her fall to earth, embrace her walk in the
world of men; embrace her time with us; so this too must be the soul of
the child at the moment it breaks it's umbilicus with heaven, and is
born into our world; ensouls a new babe.
There is often an Ironic Freedom in Surrender, when we cease to matter
to ourselves as ourselves and we embrace a higher purpose; embrace our
intent; and while terrible violence has (and will) be done by those who
find violence in their perceived intent; there is an equal capacity for
good in those who surrendering to their intent, find compassion there.
Brightest Blessings, BB.
