A Walk to Remember

Posted by: "holly@ravenmadness.com" holly@ravenmadness.com   fshaunt

Tue Apr 19, 2011 12:49 pm (PDT)

A walk with the fairies…

Today is an absolutely beautiful day so instead of sitting at my desk
through my lunch hour, I decided to go down to the park a few blocks
away and walk. Guess who joined me! That’s right the fairies
accompanied me today.

Right away, upon stepping onto the walking path I was greeted by a
dragonfly and I knew that this was going to be an adventurous walk. The
was sun shining bright in the crisp blue sky and a breeze was whispering
through the trees. Honeysuckle in full bloom as we make our way around
the winding path in the park.

Coming around the bend, nearly completing my first loop, a beautiful
yellow butterfly decides to join us. She dances softly upon the grass
and the dandelions, playing upon the breeze as we complete round 1 of
our battle of the bulge. The fairies are delighted to have a new
playmate join us. The butterfly reminds us that life is a dance and to
not take things so seriously. They also show us how transformation does
have to be traumatic, it can occur gently and with ease.

All together we round another bend in the path to find two bumble bees
playing tag in the honeysuckle vines. What a hilarious sight, seeing the
two of them dodge back and fourth and all around the honeysuckle. The
fairies nearly fell to the ground laughing so hard at these two and all
their buzzing about. The bumble is a great gift from Spirit, they teach
us of the sweetness in life and their buzzing awakens us to the moment.
The bumble bee also shows us that when we focus our intentions, much can
be accomplished.

Making my way through round 2, I look up into the trees as the breeze
sweeps through their branches and I can hear them cheer me on as I
continue this battle of the bulge. I’m not giving up. I have got to
keep going. With help from my friends, the fairies, I know I’m not
alone as I push forward. My legs ache and it’s hot out but I must go
on.

A cardinal dashes into the bushes, there must be a nest near. I see him
sitting guard on a branch as I pass by. He turns his back to me as to
say, nothing to see here folks, move on. I giggle and keep my pace. As I
pass by the stream in the center of the park another butterfly joins us.
This time a small white butterfly. The sunlight reflecting on its tiny
little wings reminds me of the light that glows inside us all. That
healing light of love that comes from the source and fills each and
every one of us.

Wow, we are growing a crowd here. The fairies, the butterflies, the
bumblebees, the dragonfly and me, all travelers enjoying the day. What a
beautiful day for a walk it is. The aroma of honeysuckle fills the air
and it reminds of when I was a kid, plucking the flowers from the
honeysuckle vines for a taste of their sweet nectar. Those were the days
when our only worry was being home before dark.

It’s round 3 already and with help from my friends and the beautiful
day, I’m chugging along just fine. My legs have their strength and
I’m not even out of breath. Round and round we go, dancing along this
path, I have no doubts that I will reach my goal. The trees have secrets
they wish to share with us as we journey. I am pleased that they wish to
confide and am eager to hear what they have to say. They want to show us
how we can stand strong and yet still be able to bend when needed. They
tell us to let our worries go with the wind and not to cling too tightly
to things. We have to allow life to flow through us for when we stand
against the wind, we may very well break if not open to what comes our
way. The trees are very wise. They have seen so much more than us and if
you open your mind they will share with you too, their secrets and
wisdom.

I’m not on my final journey and I see I have been given some gifts
along the way. Not only the gift of great company keeping me focused on
the journey before me but also some gifts from their world. I pick up a
few items that I will use to craft some things with as a thank you to my
walking companions. Just as we round that last bend, I see a raven
sitting on the cool grass in the shade. Just as we approach she takes
off, flying a completely circle around us.. showing off her remarkable
gift of flight. The raven speaks and says we often don’t know who we
are until we see what we can do and with that she fades off into the
distance leaving us to finish what we have come to do.

Round 4 complete! I have a hand full of nature’s gifts to craft
something special for my friends and so I must be on my way back to
work. The dragonfly bids me a farewell as I exit the path, the bees get
back to their game of tag, the butterflies continue playing upon the
breeze and the fairies, well the fairies are always with me.

When you walk through life awake and with your eyes wide open..
there’s no telling what you might see along the way.

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

The Annual Return of 10 Commandments Weekend

Paganism / Wiccan Basics Celebrations Pagan Living

From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wiccan
Spring is upon us, at long last, and with it comes all sorts of silliness - including the annual return of Ten Commandments Weekend, and some school officials who are really sad that they can't use the district email system to send out prayer chains. Also this week, the town of Catskill appeals a judge's ruling in the Maetreum of Cybele case, more on the James Arthur Ray trial, and an expert weighs in on those little bitty books found in Jordan.

In archaeology news, there was a mass grave found at an Iron Age hill fort, and a golden phallus discovered in a field. Finally, readers ask about ritual sex, festival hookups, and Pagan morality guides. Have a magical week, and remember, Earth Day is just around the corner!

The Annual Return of 10 Commandments Weekend

While you're busy worrying about your job, your healthcare, and whether or not you can make both the house payment and your kid's college tuition this month, Congress is busily working on stuff that's really super-duper important: Celebrating the Ten Commandments. It's time for the annual April event which -- much like rain and income tax filing deadlines -- no one really looks forward to, and yet we've all accepted as inevitable. The Huffington Post has a great article on the Republican party's push for Congress to pass a resolution proclaiming the first weekend of May "Ten Commandments Weekend." This has happened before -- in fact, HuffPo editor Chris Rodda admits ... Read More

Town Appeals Ruling in Maetreum Case

The town of Catskill, New York, is appealing last month's ruling in which a judge determined that the town may have discriminated against the Maetreum of Cybele. On February 28, we reported that Judge George J. Pulver, Jr. of the Greene County Supreme Court ruled that "the town's denial of a property tax exemption for the Maetreum of Cybele smacks of discrimination." Pulver added that the town was holding the Maetreum to a higher standard than it holds other religious groups, and said that the town of Catskill "made "vague" and "subjective" arguments about the religious practices of the ... Golden Phallic Pendant Found in Norwich

There's a fascinating find out of Norwich, England - and you may not want to click on the link if you're at work, unless you're alone in your cubicle. It seems a golden phallus pendant was unearthed by a treasure hunter last year, and the Portable Antiquities Scheme has confirmed that it is, indeed, a Roman treasure. Erica Darch, a Finds Liason Officer, describes the pendant "as being hollow, formed from sheet metal soldered together lengthways, rounded at the terminal with a small aperture left open at either end. A loop formed from triple ribbed sheet is soldered into position at ... Read More

Religious Emails No Longer OK in SC School

From Florence, South Carolina, we've got a news story about a school district that has -- reluctantly -- announced that administrators can no longer use the district's email system to send religious emails to staff. Apparently a couple of administrators - specifically, the superintendent and a principal -- were using the email system to send "religious messages and, at times, overt religious proselytization," according to a complaint by Americans United for Separation of Church and State. The district, once alerted that their was a complaint, immediately responded with a letter to all employees telling them that this was no longer ... Read More

DailyOM: Other Peoples Agendas

DailyOM - Appreciating Suggestions
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

April 19, 2011
Other People’s Agendas
Appreciating Suggestions
Every day this week we are featuring a Deal of the Day with great products that are 50-70% off. We are using the buying power of the entire DailyOM community to bring these deals to you. However you have to act quickly as the prices are only available for 48 hours. Look at the right column for today's featured deal.

Other people may have their own agenda for our life; we can value their input but we don’t have to take it to heart.

As children, our parents had dreams for us. They wanted us to do well in school, and to do whatever was necessary to reach our highest potential. Later in life, friends may try to set us up with their idea of the perfect partner or the perfect job. Spouses may have agendas for us, too. People close to us may have ideas about how we should live our lives, ideas that usually come from love and the desire for us to be happy. Other times, they come from a place of need within themâ€"whether it is the parent who wants us to live out his or her dreams or the friend or spouse who wants us to play an already-defined role. Whatever the case, we can appreciate and consider those people’s input, but ultimately we must follow our own inner guidance.

There may come a time when all the suggestions can become overbearing. We may feel that the people we love don’t approve of our judgment, which can hurt our feelings. It can interfere with the choices we make for our lives by making us doubt ourselves, or filling a void with their wishes before we’ve had a chance to decide what we want. It can affect us energetically as well. We may have to deal with feelings of resistance or the need to shut ourselves off from them. But we can take some time to rid ourselves of any unnecessary doubts and go within to become clear on what we desire for ourselves.

We can tell our loved ones how much we appreciate their thoughts and ideas, but that we need to live our own lives and make our own decisions. We can explain that they need to let us learn from our own experiences rather than rob us of wonderful life lessons and the opportunity to fine-tune our own judgment. When they see that we are happy with our lives and the path we are taking to reach our goals, they can rest assured that all we need them to do is to share in our joy.

New Druid Group in Princeton NJ.....WELCOME TO GROVE OF THE SACRED WELLS

WELCOME TO GROVE OF THE SACRED WELLS

www.groveofthesacredwells.com

Bright Blessings to you !

My name is Druid Carraig (carick) and this is our congregation website of ancient Celtic Spirituality.  We are people who believe in the nourishing the spirit and our earth. A Druid is similar in status to a Catholic Priest or Rabbi. The word Druid comes from two words: Dru = wood or oak    id = knowledge of.  So, a Druid is someone who has knowledge of the woods, nature and spirit. Celtic spirituality is one of the first spiritual philosophies that aligns us with the seasons and helps us to keep our planet green and alive. Our grove is based in the Princeton, New Jersey area and we would love for you to join us at our next meeting and celebration.  We meet monthly at the moment but hope to go bi-weekly soon.  All denominations, races, creeds and sexual orientations are welcome here.

Goddess of The Day: The Tennin Furukawa Matsuri (Japan)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:17 pm (PDT)

Goddess of The Day: The Tennin
Furukawa Matsuri (Japan)

Themes:  Protection; Anti-theft
Symbols:  Drum; Feathers

About the Tennin:  These semidivine beings are a kind of angel in the Buddhist tradition.  They like to make music, and their singing voices are as lovely as their stunning visages.  Art renderings show them wearing feathered robes and sprouting wings a bit like oversized sylphs.  On this day they join their voices to our celebration and wrap us in wings of safety.

To Do Today:  Follow Japanese conventions and go through your home or entire town making as much noise as possible by banging pots, blowing horns, ringing bells.  This protects you from the threat of thievery and unwanted ghostly visitations, as will singing sacred songs that draw the Tennin's attention and aid.  A flurry of lantern lighting (or in our case, lamp lighting) often accompanies this activity, to shine a light on the darkness and reclaim the night with divine power.

To remember the Tennin specifically and invite their protective energy, put a lightweight item (like a silk scarf, a sheer curtain, or something else with diaphanous qualities) in the region that needs guarding.  Put on a tape, record, or CD of vocal music (or sing yourself), and they will come.  To protect yourself, carry a feather in your purse or wallet

Consecrated Cloth Divination

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:18 pm (PDT)

 Consecrated Cloth Divination

Divination provides an important glimpse of your path before it unfolds fully.
Most divinatory tools, such as tarot cards, respond better if laid out
upon a properly consecrated cloth rather than on a bare table.
You may
use a plain cloth or one with markings for a specific system. To
consecrate your cloth, first spread it flat. Lay out all your cards on
it in order.   Now say:

Tools of power,
Tools of art,
Tools that see the hidden heart,
Tools that tell the path before
Be you blessed by ancient lore.

Wrap the cloth around the deck, and continue:

Now together be you bound
Cards and cloth that wraps around
One in two, and two in one,
By these words my will be done!

The cloth is now consecrated. Keep it wrapped around your deck when not in use.

Bread of Opportunity

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:20 pm (PDT)

Bread of Opportunity

On the last day of Cerealia, honoring Ceres,  Goddess of  Grains. On this day, her temple in Rome was first dedicated, bringing a
horrible famine to an end. In honor of Ceres, bake a loaf of bread
today.
The recipe below is easy as it uses no yeast, eliminating rising times.

Soda Bread
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup wheat flour
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten separately
1/2 cup raisins or currants

In a large bowl
combine the flours, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Cut in the
butter in bits, and mix the mass with your hands until the mixture is
crumbly. In a small bowl combine the buttermilk, one beaten egg, and the raisins. Pour the liquid into the flour mixture and stir until
everything is moistened. On a floured surface, knead the dough gently
about fifteen times, working in a little more flour as needed. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet, shaping it into a rounded loaf. With a sharp knife, cut a cross into the top of the bread. Brush the surface
with the remaining beaten egg. Bake at 375°F for about thirty-five
minutes or until golden brown.
