Measure Your Feet Day is a day to, well it's a day to measure your feet. At
this point, we stop and ask ourselves...why? We pondered this question
for a while. Then, we decided it was best not to even speculate.
Celebrate today by measuring your feet. Both of them. Measure the length. Then,
measure the width. For a little fun, see if you can measure someone
else's feet.
Note: We are so glad that congress did not spend the time to declare this a "National" day.....yet

1849 - Elizabeth Blackwell is the first woman to receive a medical degree in America.

National Pie Day - Created by the American Pie Council, National Pie Day is
dedicated to the celebration of pie. As part of our American heritage,
this day is a perfect opportunity to pass on the love and enjoyment of
pie eating and pie making to future generations.
To celebrate
National Pie Day share the warmth of the ultimate "comfort food" by
giving the gift of pie to a friend or neighbor. Your generosity will be
long remembered.
If pie making is not in your schedule, stop by your
favorite pie shop or grocery store and bring home a gift of love and
enjoyment for the whole family. The coldest of January days will be
warmed by a special pie dessert.

Terminus Quinquegenus of Deth -
Eve of the second half-century of the Acolyte, marked by excessive,
licentious and hedonistic revelry by notable luminaries from around the
world.

1330, Pope John XXII gaves funds to his physician to set up a laboratory for a "certain secret work".

The Goddess Month of Bridhe begins today.

Feast of Old Greek Goddess Aphrodite - Day to honor peace and compassion.

Day of Hathor honors the Egyptian Mother Goddess and Goddess of the
underworld. Known also as Queen of Heaven, Queen of the Earth, and The
Celestial Cow, cow's milk is poured into the River Nile as prayers to
the Goddess are recited. The Day of Hathor occurs on the 9th day of
Pamenot.

Tu Bishvat - The custom on Tu Bishvat is to eat fruits
from the seven species for which the Land of Israel is praised:
Kabbalistic tradition even includes a mystical Tu Bishvat "seder"
service where the inner dimensions of fruits are expounded, along with
blessings, songs and deep discussion.

Up-Helly-aa - Held in
Lerwick, Shetland Islands. A full sized Viking Galley, complete with
shields and oars is pulled by a torch-bearing procession dressed as
Viking warriors to the beach. Guizer Jarl calls for three cheers for the builders of the longship and after a bugle call, the galley is set
alight by 800 blazing torches.

One Tooth Rhee Day is a Korean
feast day honoring the mythical inventor of the odd custom of having
bureaucrats wear four hats to give contradictory orders to workers.

Braciaca Dydd, the Day of Braciaca, begins at sundown and continues until January 24th.

The Theta-Centaurids meteor shower is a little known southern hemisphere
shower, beginning on the twenty-third and ending March twelfth. The best viewing occurs on February first.

DailyOM: Feeling Our Life

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:11 pm (PST)

DailyOM - Finding Our Life's Work
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

January 21, 2011
Feeling Our Life
Finding Our Life's Work
The way we know we are doing our life's work is by how we feel when we are doing it.

Sometimes it takes us the better part of a lifetime to discover our life's work, even though we may have been doing it our whole lives without necessarily realizing it. Our life's work is not always what we do to make money, although we often think it should be, and sometimes this way of thinking prevents us from seeing clearly what it is. It may be the work of having children, caring for them, and running a household. The way we know our life's work is by how we feel when we are doing it.

When we are doing our life's work, we feel an uncanny sense of ease and alignment. This doesn't mean that the work is always easy, and it doesn't mean that it' the only work we have to do; it just means that there is a conviction deep inside us that tells us we are in tune with our innermost self. When we are engaged in our life's work, our bodies feel more alive, because our energy is devoted to a cause that, in turn, feeds us. We may be tired after engaging in our life's work, but we are almost never depleted. We feel grounded in the world, knowing that we belong here and have something important to offer.

When we are deeply unhappy, depressed, or subject to one illness after another, this may be due to a sense of disconnection from our life's work. At times like these, finding the work we are meant to do is an essential act of healing. Most of us remember a time when we felt fully engaged in some act of work, service or creativity, and it is here that we may rediscover the work we are meant to do now. On the other hand, it may be time to explore what inspires us through volunteering, taking a class, going back to school, or just doing whatever it is we long to try. We all have callings, and when we find them, we owe it to ourselves to nurture and protect them, because while they may or may not be our livelihood, they are the keys to our wellbeing.

Goddess of The Day: THE EARTHLY MOTHER  New Year of the Trees (Isrea

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:12 pm (PST)

Goddess of The Day: THE EARTHLY MOTHER
New Year of the Trees (Isreal)

Themes: Nature; Earth Awareness
Symbols: Trees

About The Earthly Mother: This Essene Goddess embodies nature and teaches us
how to live in harmony with the earth. The Essenes portray her with the
elements personified as four angels (earth, air, fire, water) plus two
companions named Joy and Life, all helping the Earthly Mother in her
work. What a magickal blend to bless and energize this first month!

To Do Today: In the spirit of making every day Earth Day, why not launch
the new year by giving something back to the earth in the tradition of
the Isrealites? Today (the fifteenth day of Shebat on the Hebrew
calendar), plant a tree to rejuvinate the land. If you wish, name the
tree after a deceased loved one, as the Isrealites do. According to
lore, doing so brings that person peace in the afterlife.

If your location or finances don't allow for tree plantings, just water a tree. By doing so you symbolically feed the whole earth. Sit down for a
moment or two afterward and meditate. Feel the rich soil beneath you,
and feel how it nourishes and enriches all living things including you.

Finally, as you're walking around, pick up any stone that catches your eye. Put
it in your pocket to carry a piece of the Earthly Mother with you as a
gentle reminder that the earth is a sacred, living thing that blesses us daily.

Sun Shower Spell

Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:12 pm (PST)

Sun Shower Spell

Imagine you are standing outside on a beautiful, sunny day. If you can stand
outside in the Sun for this visualization, it will be even more
powerful. Feel the warmth of the Sun on your body and its light on your
closed eyelids. Imagine its rays pouring over you. The light and warmth
covers you and soaks in through your pores, eyes, and mouth. Feel the
light wash away tension, illness, and discomfort. These spiral away from you and are absorbed into the earth for purification. The light turns
to red. As it flows over you, your root chakra energizes. The light then becomes orange, then yellow, green, indigo, and violet, energizing your chakras as it changes. It becomes golden-white again, balancing your
energy field. ~ Kristin Madden

Mayan Prayer

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Sat Jan 22, 2011 9:42 pm (PST)

Heart of heaven, heart of earth,
let our children and grandchildren
live on this earth as long as the sun
moves across the blue sky above.

Let the sun come! let dawn come!
Let all people have peace,
let all people have happiness.
Let us all have peace and happiness.

Goddess, mother of the sun,
Goddess, mother of the light,
let dawn bring peace and happiness,
let your light shine in our hearts forever.
~Mayan Prayer
.
Above us stretches the blue sky; beneath us stretches the great green earth.
The waters, the light, the moving creatures, and the vast forests: all
are part of a great unity. The cosmic Goddess expresses this unity, as
seen by ancient people all across the globe.

When we divide sky
from earth, mind from body, spirit from flesh, we see falsely. For sky
and earth are not opposites, nor are spirit and flesh. This planet, and
the universe through which it swims, is deeply interconnected. Nothing
is separate. The clouds in the sky are part of the watery oceans. The
plants draw from and transform the soil's minerals.

Nothing can
exist alone. We cannot exist alone. We, too, are part of this complex
pattern that is the universe. Whenever we doubt it, we need only
breathe, drawing in the power of the great atmosphere that surrounds us. When we feel alone, we need only look around, acknowledging the
brilliant sunlight that permits our eyes to function. We are never
seperate from this world in which we live. For this our foremothers gave constant thanks, and we should do as well.
