but, unlike the 60's, most of this audience is growed up already. We are not a collection of college kids who are reading Mead, Gardner and Robins for the first time. We don't need to be told that all the history we've learned was propaganda, and we are not ready to simply accept ideas based on if they make us feel good. Even the young of our period are educated enough to know when the learning channel is full of hooy. We don't need to be freed the the mentality the is cartooned in "Mad Men". The Ohio river will not light, we can see from the Hollywood hills into L.A. (most days). Feminism, environmentalism, social justice are not new ideas peddled by radicals. We are not the bright eyed, young skulls full of mush, ready to risk our GPA for a good cause. We are not ready to take as authority, some one who has just made it all up himself.
I'm not talking about values, except to point out they too, have become tarnished, misapplied and wore out, they are in need of genuine rejuvination.
Such values as were need in the 60's, are surly needed now, but where are they?
I'm talking about the members of this list, who aren't kids anymore, and the younger members who have arrived to the craft with a more sophisticated body of knowledge than we had when Sybil Leek was in hardback, and Margaret Mead was goddess of anthropology
We don't live in those days no more, and it won't serve the young to treat them as if we do.

First, I think with a group like this, it's hard to generalize and say "we."
Unlike in a lot of established churches, people here and on pagan paths are
much more independent thinkers, so chances are every person represents a
unique opinion.
To me, the 60s were just a prelude to the Age of Aquarius. Egalitarianism,
questioning authority, environmentalism, a new kind of spirituality,
rejection of materialism are all, in their many variations and
manifestations, characteristic of this Age that is just now being born. The
best is yet to come.
I am not "grown up," refuse to "grow up," and will never be cynical,
definitely describe myself as "bright eyed," and would pretty much put
everything on the line for a cause in which I believe. I know many others
who would do the same--probably because I hang out with people similar to
me. I don't think all of history is propaganda, but a lot of it is. What is
important is that people of all ages learn the skill of critical thinking,
so no matter who or what they read, they immediately question the ideas in
the text. Critical thinking means not blindly accepting anything, whether it
makes one feel good or bad. No one should just be taken as an authority
because of who they are.
A personal example is, I outright reject the notion of female beauty in this
culture. No offense to anyone naturally thin, but I believe that looking
like a walking skeleton is unattractive and that curves (and not just tiny,
imperceptible ones) are beautiful. I believe a woman that society considers
"chubby" can be gorgeous, and as an example, I refer to Renaissance
paintings, especially those of the goddess Venus. The goddess of love, the
ultimate icon of beauty, is a round, curvy woman in these paintings.
I don't buy into the "American dream," and don't care a bit about being rich
or owning stuff. And I do think most of the American people need to be freed
from media propaganda, which has pulled the wool over their eyes to the
extent that they have no clue how much they are being screwed by the system.
I will never "not be a kid anymore." At the same time, I recognize that my
way of thinking is just one way among many. The values of the 60s do need to
be rejuvenated, in a way that takes into account the very real dangers that
now threaten our planet. A lot of these are worse now than they were in the
60s.
Yes, there is more reading material around now from more viewpoints even
within individual movements, and that is a good thing. A characteristic of
the Aquarian Age is the easy access to and availability of information
(Aquarius is an air sign). All generations should be encouraged to seek out
this information so they can make informed decisions about how they want to
live and the values that are important to them.

DailyOM - Let It Roll Off Our Back
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Dodging And Deflecting
Let It Roll Off Our Back
One of the most difficult challenges in life is learning not to take things to heart and hold on to it.
One of the most difficult challenges in life is learning not to take things to heart and hold on to it. Especially when we're younger, or if we're very sensitive, we take so much of what comes our way to heart. This can be overwhelming and unproductive if it throws us off balance on a regular basis. When we are feeling criticized or attacked from all directions, it becomes very difficult for us to recover ourselves so that we can continue to speak and act our truth. This is when we would do well to remember the old saying about letting certain things roll off us, like water off a duck's back.
Most of the time, the attacks and criticisms of others have much more to do with them and how they are feeling than with us. If we get caught up in trying to adjust ourselves to other people's negative energy, we lose touch with our core. In fact, in a positive light, these slings and arrows offer us the opportunity to strengthen our core sense of self, and to learn to dodge and deflect other people's misdirected negativity. The more we do this, the more we are able to discern what belongs to us and what belongs to other people. With practice, we become masters of our energetic integrity, refusing to serve as targets for the disowned anger and frustration of the people around us.
Eventually, we will be able to hear the feedback that others have to offer, taking in anything that might actually be constructive, and releasing that which has nothing to do with us. First, though, we tend ourselves compassionately by recognizing when we can't take something in from the outside without hurting ourselves. This is when we make like a duck, shaking it off and letting it roll off our back as we continue our way in the world.

DescriptionIt is the Lightworkers' mission to lend their light energy to our planet which is heavy with fear and negativity. They are here to be the light in the darkness. But Lightworkers aren't all great spiritual gurus or even political leaders. They may be musicians or artists, shopkeepers, accountants, stay at home moms or even homeless folks. They share their gifts by speaking out for those who have no voice, they create glorious works of art that beautify our planet or they write music that elevates our spirits. They work unseen, lending their light energy by just agreeing to walk among us; they are the healers of our planet. In Lightworker, psychic medium Sahvanna Arienta explains that Lightworker is not just a broad term or label, but a clear and defined role for unique souls with different levels, intensities and missions. This information will help many identify their true selves and the path they should take. Lightworker also offers
helpful advice on how to cope with the heightened sensitivities and complexities of the Lightworker's highly acute nature. Sahvanna explains extra sensory perceptions and how to enhance your own psychic abilities in a simple and straightforward way anyone can relate to. Lastly you will be astounded as she recounts stories of her own journey and her experiences as a medium connecting with the other side. Lightworker, The Unique Soul's Who Have Come to Heal the Planet may change the way you view your life, your challenges and your own place in the world.
Stay tuned for more updates to come.

A Right of Imbolc, Feb. 5 NY NY

A Right of Imbolc, Feb. 5 NY NY
The Journey to Free Brid: A Rite of Imbolc
Hosted by: ADF Druidry, NYC and the Innis Ull Protogrove, ADF
When: Feb. 5th. 2011
Where: New York, New York
Bring: Offerings for Brid.
Price: $10.00 donation. No one turned away
Inviting Brid into Our Communal Hearth
Event Details: In Scottish lore, we are told that the Cailleach has sequestered Bríd inside the mountain, Ben Nevis. On the feast of Imbolc, Aonghus rides from the Otherworld on a white horse, seeking to set Bríd free. For our rite, we will go on a guided journey, taking the part of Aonghus in the quest to return Bríd to the world. Should we prove successful in our task, we will invite Bríd into our communal hearth—for it is far too cold and bleak for her to be left roaming out of doors! We will offer her our hospitality, giving her offerings of food and drink, of poems and music and of whatever else we individually feel she would appreciate. In return, we will seek her blessings, each of us passing through a sacred hoop, the Crios Bríde three times--once for each of this great goddess' aspects: Goddess of the Forge, Goddess of Healing and Goddess of Inspiration. Appropriately, Aonghus will be our Gate Keeper and Boann, Bríd's mother will be
called upon as Earth Mother. In addition, instead of the World Tree, the myth suggests that we employ the World Mountain as our vertical axis.
We will be following the ADF Core Order of Ritual for High Days.
Event Location: 131 West 72nd Street in New York
Event TIME Details: 5:45pm to 8:45pm
Directions: The ritual will take place at the Ripley-Grier Studios (131 West 72nd Street, between Amsterdam & Columbus, north side of street, in Manhattan) .

More about Imbolc:
Imbolc, otherwise known or celebrated as Groundhog's Day, Candlemas, or St. Brigid's day, is one of the four so-called Irish fire festivals mentioned in the "The Wooing of Emer", a tale in Ulster Cycle in Irish mythology.
At Imbolc, which is often been translated as "in the milk" or "in the belly" was traditionally the time of year when the ewes would begin to lactate in anticipation of spring births. Spring is six weeks away, just around the corner, and with it the promise that the Cailleach, the winter hag, may yet transform herself into the Spring Maiden.
At Imbolg most especially we honor Brighid, the Irish Goddess who became a saint, for her gifts of poetry, healing, smith craft, as well as weaving, beer-making, and all that good stuff that keeps the tribe going! Brighid became associated especially with her fire temple at the monastic center of Kildare, Co. Kildare, and for her role as a healer, midwife, and foster-mother of Christ in Irish Catholic lore.

Goddess of The Day: FULLA Up-Helly-Aa (Shetland Islands)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:47 pm (PST)
Goddess of The Day: FULLA
Up-Helly-Aa (Shetland Islands)
Themes: Abundance; Protection; Cycles; Magick
Symbols: Gold-Colored Items; Hair
About Fulla: The
Teutonic sister of Frigg, Fulla visits us with fulfillment this year,
just as her name - which means "fullness" - implies. In legends, Full
had long golden hair bound by a golden band. She guarded her sister's
enchanted basket of slippers, giving her an additional association as a
protectress of magickal tools.
To Do Today: In
metaphysical traditions, hair is sometimes used to empower them. In this case, to evoke Fulla's protection over your magickal tools, use a piece of your own hair. Pull one strand and adhere it in some manner to any
tool that you want guarded from undesired energies. As you attach the
hair say,
Full, safegard this ___, even as you mind-
fully guarded Frigg's treasures.
If the hair ever falls off, re-create the spell.
The festival of
Up-Hell-Aa has ancient origins and closely resembles Viking funereal
rites, except that it's meant for the season of winter! People on the
Shetland Islands gather to watch the burning of a longship. The fire's
golden flame lights the way for spring's and Fulla's abundance. It also
expels evil spirits. In keeping with this custom, light as many lamps or candles as you can in your home, ideally yellow ones, and leave them on for a while to cast out any lingering darkness. )0(

A Winter Cleansing Spell
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:49 pm (PST)
A Winter Cleansing Spell
During the
winter, negative energies can accumulate in our homes. Protect your home with this spell. At night build a fire, and onto the flames scatter
nine whole cloves. As the fire burns say, "Spirits dance, spirits
mingle. Bad spirits depart, good spirits linger." Using your ritual
fire, light a black candle. Place this candle in front of a window, and
surround it with two or three small mirrors, placed facing the window.
Now say, "Into the blackness, into the night. Bad spirits take flight."
Visualize the candle's flame being reflected by the mirrors through the
window, taking with it any negativity. Let it drift peacefully into the
night. Repeat this spell on Mondays or Tuesdays if needed.

Spices /Herbs
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Spices /Herbs
.
Spices perk up our lives and are also very useful medicinally. Spices (herbs) are used to enhance food, flavor wines and beer,
and help restore
health. Spices (herbs) have an old record in human history, beginning
with our ancient cave-dwelling ancestors right down to modern day use.
The active ingredient of spices (herbs) is the essential oils. Taken
internally, they act as muscle relaxers, cough suppressors, expectorants and many other uses. Externally, spices (herbs) help heal wounds, stop itching, and relieve pain. When inhaled, certain spices (herbs) help
relieve congestion, act as a relaxant and even make our homes smell
wonderful.
Bitters are one of the oldest known species of spices (herbs) still in use today. Wormwood, one of the oldest known bitters,
was used in ancient times, but is very seldom used today. Bitters are divided into three groups:
Simple bitters: used to stimulate the appetite and the action of the stomach
Aromatic bitters: E.O's and used as incense
Incidental bitters: where the bitter functions are incidental to more important therapeutic effects.
Examples
Simple bitters: any spice (herb) that increases the flavor of food and drink
dill, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme
Aromatic bitters: any spice (herb) that has an aromatic smell
camphor, eucalyptus, garlic, nutmeg, cinnamon, balsam
Incidental bitters: aloe, soapwort, latherwort, craw soap, coltsfoot, mucilage, marshmallow, and lobelia
None of these spices (herbs) may be a medicinal miracle, but all of them are spices (herbs) that heal in some way.

Chinese Tao te Ching
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:55 pm (PST)
At the world's beginning
there was a mother.
All beginnings partake
of that mother's energy.
To know this world,
first know the mother.
Then, go forth and learn
to know the world.
Then go back to her. Go back
and hold fast to her.
Hold fast to the mother, and
you will never be in danger.
~Chinese Tao te Ching
Everything that exists partakes of the goddess. But we cannot know her directly. Rather, we know her through the universe that expresses her and that surrounds us. Studying this world, and studying ourselves, is the only way we can truly learn to know the goddess. Look at the sky, the black earth, the green living things that surround us. Look at the movements of animals, graceful and hungry and free. Watch the flights of birds, the great movements of sea mammals and fish, the ice-flow of glaciers, the frozen rippling time incised on great mountains. These are all ways to know the goddess.
We ourselves participate in the divine feminine. Whether male or female, we each hold her within ourselves. Our route to the goddess is only partially through understanding the world around us. It is also through understanding our hearts: our most frightening and needful urges as well as our brightest and most ecstatic ones. Embracing all that we are, we also embrace her, in whose image we are made.

Fw: reiki February 2011
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Thu Jan 27, 2011 7:07 pm (PST)
There are several things that you can do to prepare for your Reiki
session that will increase your comfort level, as well as the effectiveness of
the healing session. The basic premise behind this is mindful awareness
of the experience that you are about to have. Following these steps will
also help your Reiki practitioner feel at ease and comfortable practicing with
you.
To begin with, take a long relaxing shower the day of your treatment. The
hot, cleansing water will help refresh and relax you, both mentally and
physically. Avoid using any heavily scented products during or after your
shower. Wearing strong scents could later prove detrimental, as the smell
might distract you or your practitioner during the Reiki treatment.
Dress yourself in comfortable, loose fitting clothing. Avoid wearing
tight clothing, as they lessen your chances of relaxing fully. Likewise,
items such as short skirts should be avoided. Whenever possible, wear
shoes that are easy to remove, and dress in layers so that you can be dressed
appropriately for the room's temperature. Leave the jewelry at home
on the day of your treatment- wedding bands are usually fine, but watches,
bracelets and necklaces should be left someplace safe and out of the way.
Some practitioners believe that jewelry can interfere with energy flow, while
others merely find it to be in the way.
Be sure to arrive a few moments early for your appointment to avoid the stress
of feeling late and being rushed. Be sure to communicate with your
practitioner. Let them know what your preferences are (music, no music,
dimmer lighting, etc) and alert them to any areas you would like them to work
on. This communication is also important during a Reiki treatment.
For example, if you started off your treatment very cold and were lying under a
blanket, and later became very hot, it is far preferable that you simply let
your practitioner know, rather than lying there under a blanket, sweating.
Each practitioner of Reiki is different, and may have their own specific
guidelines for how they prefer their clients to prepare for a session.
The above is merely a general guideline. Always follow the instructions of
your practitioner.
Not only is Reiki completely safe for pregnant women, but it has proven
to be highly beneficial to them as well. Hartford Hospital, in Hartford, Connecticut,
conducted tests that showed Reiki helped reduce anxiety (94%), nausea (80%),
pain (78%) and improved sleep (86%) during pregnancy. In fact, for some,
Reiki is part of the entire process; from pre-pregnancy work, to helping a
couple conceive, throughout the pregnancy, and then during and after birth.
During pregnancy, a woman's body goes through many changes, not all of them
comfortable. The body experiences aches and pains, and some women
experience morning sickness in the first trimester, and swollen and sore joints
in the third trimester. The stress on the body can contribute to mental
anxiety. Because of the body-mind-spirit connection, these physical
symptoms can also affect a person in other realms as well. Using Reiki to
restore the aura to a state of balance can often help with all three levels of
self.
The use of Reiki during labor is a practice that is swiftly growing in
popularity, and with good cause. Reiki can be used to ease pain in the
back and pelvic areas, while bringing a sense of peace and ease. Delivery
can be made substantially easier when the mother-to-be is able to focus her
energy on the process, rather than on the pain. There is even evidence
that the use of Reiki during later pregnancies may prevent women who have
previously had Cesarean surgeries from needing another c-section in order to
give birth.
Kundalini Reiki is an offshoot of traditional Reiki and was pioneered by
Ole Gabrielson.
First, let us define the basics:
Kundalini is life energy, often visualized as a serpent, residing in the base
chakra. A Kundalini awakening, also referred to as Kundalini rising, is
an intense, and sometimes overwhelming experience in which a person's Kundalini
energy rises up through the spine, through the chakra system, bringing
awareness, openness and energy into a person. This is accompanied by a
myriad of physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences.
Reiki is a method of healing in which spiritual energy is channeled through a
Reiki practitioner, healing the spirit and therefore the body, of the client.
The first thing you should know about Kundalini Reiki is that it does create a Kundalini
awakening experience, but also, it helps to heal a person's spirit and calm the
symptoms of an accidental or unacknowledged awakening. An accidental
awakening can result in a number of painful experiences, and without guidance,
can be a very troubling experience. Kundalini Reiki can bring peace and
ease to a person while helping them to correctly align their energy, thus
creating a powerful and positive experience.
Kundalini Reiki is less complex than traditional Reiki- there are no symbols or
special hand positions. In Kundalini Reiki, the practitioner places their
hands on the shoulders of their client, and allows energy to flow down through
their crown chakra, and out of their hands, into the body of the
recipient. This healing experience is like water flowing into the
recipient- it will fill in any area that needs healing. The channeling
process usually take about five minutes, although the experience for the
recipient can last up to an hour and a half.

Stop and Breathe
Whenever you find that you
have a spare moment-- waiting in line at the grocery store, sitting in traffic,
wherever you might be -- take that time to breathe. Start by checking in
with your breathing. Do not change the pace or depth of your breath,
simply observe where you are. Next, try the following breathing
exercises:
* Take a deep breath in and exhale. Next, inhale normally, and exhale very slowly. Repeat this for a few breaths. Then, return to normal breathing and notice any changes that may have occurred.
* Again, take a deep breath in and exhale. Inhale slowly, and exhale normally. Repeat this for a few breaths. Return to natural breathing and take notice of any changes.
* Finally, take a long, slow inhale holding at the height of your inhale, and then follow with a long slow exhale. Repeat this for several breaths. Before returning to normal breathing, pay attention to how your body feels. Do you feel any different than before you began the exercise?
These
breathing exercises can help calm and center you; relieving stress and bringing
you back to your body. They can be performed at any time during the day.

Healing Crises
Most of the time, a Reiki session will result in the recipient feeling
uplifted and at peace. This is not always the case, however, as a Reiki
session can also bring on a healing crisis. A healing crisis occurs when
a person experiences a release or shift in the body that releases stored toxins
into the body. These toxins, which have been held in the body, then enter
the blood stream where they filter through the liver and kidneys before being
expelled from the body.
When this happens, people may feel weak or jittery, or they may experience a headache
or upset stomach. The symptoms are usually similar to those that people
experience when doing a full-system cleanse. When this happens, it is
important that the person takes good care of themselves, drinks plenty of water
to stay hydrated, eats light healthy meals, and gets enough rest. This is
the body's way of cleansing itself, and it is a good sign that the body's
healing process has been engaged.
