That's awful... I am quickly losing faith in the state of our environment, because of things like this. We have solar panels on our house, and they have made a HUGE difference in our electricity consumption. We generate enough power that the electric company pays US a small amount every month. What a difference it could make if more people could do that!

Hi Tiamat,

Well said, I think wind turbines are very beautiful, sleek and poetic in their movements, I don't think there are many truly environmentally concious people as this is the time of self and image, at least where I am its all about image and status.. it is maddening

Please add my Dad (Bruce Barclay) to the Healing Circle. He has Leukemia and is having a relapse. His girlfriend says it's not looking too good and that if we are going to visit then sooner is better than later. I'm not sure if I'm asking for healing or just for comfort for him in his last months (weeks, days...not sure how long), but please keep him in your prayers. I'm not ready to lose him, but if it's his time then I'd at least like it to be peaceful. Thank you!

I've been a practicing pagan for twenty-five years. One thing you may wish
to consider is that the term warlock IS used legitimately to designate a
male practitioner of at least two witchcraft traditions (one of them being
Buckland's Saex Wicca). In the British Traditional and BTW influenced
traditions, it's used to denote an oathbreaker...someone who has taken the
oaths of the Tradition or coven and then broken them. This generally
involves 'outing' someone when they do not wish to be outed or revealing
what would be considered family information (recipes, specific rites,
rituals, etc) or egregious harm to another inside or out of the coven (as
with assault, domestic abuse, battery, rape, or pedophilia). It simply
depends on the tradition.

It has NOTHING to do with whether or not the magic belongs to someone else.
Many of us can and do use rituals and spells crafted by someone else; they
form the basis of most of these Traditions. The key there is whether or not
the information is passed on and used with permission. Even so, it's not as
stigmatic as you might think. The founder of the Alexandrian tradition has
been accused of breaking such oaths, as have many others. Many of those were
the ones who dared to make public information which had been taken from
other sources in the first place. Without these people doing so, we would
not have much of what we do have.

I do not like the term sorceror and have never seen it used seriously in any
of the pagan communities. It generally denotes someone who has not
practiced long, who has not done much research, and who has taken much of
his dubious understanding of witchcraft and paganism from role playing games
and similar sources.

Emotions and the Mind

Geranium (Botanical name pelargonium graveolens) is a wonderful
antidepressant. It's an excellent
relaxant for those suffering from nervous tension.
Use in a diffuser, bath or a massage blend.
Blend with Lavender, Clary Sage and Bergamot for a stress relieving massage.
Avoid in early pregnancy.

Bringing Autumn Magic In

Bringing Autumn Magic In

There's nothing more luscious than inviting nature indoors in the
Fall: the brilliant colors of Autumn make our homes feel deliciously
warm and cozy as the weather turns cooler. Changing leaves, swags of
grapevine, and vibrantly-colored apples and squashes make gorgeous,
inexpensive decorations.
Find out how to connect with the abundant bounty and beauty of this
harvest season with these fun, easy tips for decorating with nature:

1. Preserve some colorful leaves. You can iron them between sheets
of waxed paper, microwave them for a few seconds, put them in a
solution of glycerin, or press them between the pages of a heavy
book. Then you can apply them to backsplashes, place them artfully
in a vase, mound them around a pile of gourds or squashes, or even
use them as coasters for your favorite beverages.

2. Food is art. Find a local Farmer's Market or roadside stand and
load up on apples, pears, pumpkins, decorative squashes, nuts,
gourds, and Native American corn. A simple wooden bowl loaded with
these treasures makes an abundant centerpiece. You can parade them
in a line on a mantel-piece or pile them in a basket. What you don't
eat, you can enjoy looking at.

3. Other treasures. Bring in grapevines to twine along the
countertops, or make wreaths for doors or cabinets (see our article
on making your own Inner Harvest Wreath). If you live in an area
where bittersweet is not a protected plant, harvest some to put in
an earthen vase. Corn shocks are traditional to stand beside a door,
but broom corn makes a beautiful and less usual alternative with its
graceful russet fronds.

4. Beeswax candles. The amber color and honey-sweet aroma of these
safe, all-natural candles just evoke the golden glow of autumn. As
the days get shorter, it can be a soothing ritual to burn a beeswax
candle at dusk.

5. Echo Fall colors. Bring in the Autumn hues of russet-red, vibrant
shades of orange, deep greens, mellow golds, wine-reds, and vivid
scarlet with cushions, towels, scatter-rugs, or other decorative
accents. My family has a brightly-colored autumn leaf potholder and
a set of pumpkin-shaped mugs that we use with pleasure year after
year. Find the simple treasures your family will enjoy.

6. Try this creative and relaxing Leaf Meditation. Find a perfect
autumn leaf and spend some time really looking at it, noticing the
variations in color and shape. Trace its outline on a piece of
paper, then try your hand at coloring it in with colored pencils,
markers, or paints. Slowing down and taking time to savor the beauty
of something as simple and commonplace as a leaf opens our eyes and
hearts to nature's magical variety. You may want to cut your colored
leaf out and glue it on the cover of a journal to keep you company
throughout the autumn months. Or do several leaves to decorate your
cabinets or walls!

7. Think water. Western European traditions often associate Autumn
with the element of water, since it is a time of deep feeling and
flowing away: birds migrate, trees shed their leaves. Honor this
ancient idea with a bowl of water in a special place. Notice how
water evaporates. As you refill your bowl throughout the autumn
months, give a little thought to your own feelings, and the things
that you are in the process of releasing from your life.

Traditions, 2001).

The Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign in Astrology

The Sun, Moon, and Rising Sign in Astrology

Sun

The Sun Sign is what most people are aware of because it is easy to calculate and used most frequently by the general population.

The symbolism associated with this planet shows us how we consciously express ourselves - I liken the process of discovering our 'Sun' to the process of individuation as described by Carl Jung. Depending on the placement of the Sun and its relationship to the other planets this may be a process that is easy or difficult. The actual Sun itself I relate to the animus.

Men tend to associate with the Sun more naturally/easily than woman because it is a masculine energy and psychologically represents the father and authority figures as well as identity and ego. Other keywords associated with the Sun include vitality and purpose.

In a woman's chart the Sun can represent what type of characteristics she finds attractive in a partner or that she experiences through her father and other important men in her life.

Moon

The Moon changes sign roughly every 2 1/2 days, depending on how fast it is traveling at the time. In Jungian terms I feel there is a strong link between the Moon and the anima.
Unconscious actions can be attributed to the Moon as well as feelings and needs. Instinct, emotions, nurturing and the feminine qualities are also represented by this point in the birth chart. The Moon shows us how we instinctively respond on a feeling level when we are being creatures of habit.

While the Sun strives to be different, the Moon symbolizes relationship and merging of identity.

Usually a woman will associate with her Moon sign because it is a feminine energy.

Men may experience the symbolism represented by the Moon through their relationship with the mother or nurturing figure while growing up. When it comes to relationships a man usually seeks out the themes represented by the Moon's placement within his birth chart.

Rising Sign (Also Known as the Ascendant)

Since the Rising Sign is calculated using the exact time of birth, e.g, the moment a person entered the world, then this point in the birth chart symbolizes the environment a person is born into. It can also describe the birthing process itself!

I use this point in the chart as an indication of not only what type of environment a person is born into, but also as a guide to how others first experience the individual.

Psychologically speaking, the Rising Sign indicates the type of persona (another term used by Jung) an individual has created for dealing with the world and others in general. In other words our Rising Sign is the 'mask' we wear when having to deal with new situations, people and the world in general.

Physically it can describe what a person looks like as well as the type of health issues an individual may face at some point in their lives.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"Those who live for one another learn that love is the bond of perfect unity."

-- Fools Crow, LAKOTA

To serve each other, to respect each other, to trust each other, to honor each other, to love each other, to cooperate with each other, to care for each other, to forgive one another, to focus on peoples' good, to laugh with one another, to learn from one another, to pray for each other; these are all acts of love. These values and actions will connect us to one another in the Unseen World. Nature is a good example of how we should get along with one another. Watch nature. She is our teacher. Nature lives to give to one another. The insects give to the birds, who give to the four legged, who give to the two legged. The Creator made all things perfect.

Oh Great Spirit, let me serve the people today. Let me see that it is better to give than it is to receive. Be with me today.
