Astrology Forecast - Tread Lightly

The next
few days offer difficult aspects. August 9th is potentially tense
with Mars square Uranus closely followed by Mars opposite Pluto on August 11.
Keep a low profile and avoid confrontations this week.

The
combination of these planets can bring violence, sudden disasters, or uprisings
around the world. If you are born under the sign of Cancer, Aries, or Capricorn
it's best to curb your temper, practice patience, and avoid power struggles.

This
transit triggers the urge for major transformation.

Where do
you need to change?
What do you
need to let go of to break through?

Deep
emotional issues may erupt to the surface. Mars in Cancer could be expressed in
the form of depression,  passive-aggressive behavior, stomachaches or
digestive problems. You may have to deal with buried anger, repressed
sexuality, or frustrated ambitions.
If you're finding it hard
to cope during this time, be gentle with yourself and do what you need to do to
heal your stress.
A healing
session can help you return to your center.

Where Did You Get Your Magickal Name?

Where Did You Get Your Magickal Name?

The
tradition of taking on a magickal name is an old one in many Pagan
paths.

Once used to protect themselves and their coven mates or to
create equality among members, magickal names are now often individually

chosen to reflect or project certain traits, pantheonic allegiances or
just because it sounds cool. How did YOU get your magickal name?

What is the story behind it, the meaning of it and the reason that it was
either given to you or you chose it?

Full Sturgeon Moon (August)

Some Native American tribes knew that the sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this full Moon. Others called it the Green Corn Moon or the Grain Moon.

The fishing tribes are given credit for the naming of this Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month. A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.

What's Happening Today:

August 10-12 -  Puck Fair - A three-day festival held in the little village of Killorglin in County Kerry. On the evening of the first day, Gathering Day, a white puck (from the Gaelic poc, a male goat), his horns bedecked with ribbons and rosettes, is borne in triumph in a lorry to a platform in the square. The Foley family is charged with the task of caring for the goat, which includes feeding him cabbages. On the following day, Puck's Fair Day, the decorated King presides over a great cattle, horse and sheep fair. On the final day, Scattering Day or Children's Day, the goat-king is dethroned by a throng of excited children. Accompanied by pipers, he is processed through town and over the bridge, whereupon he is turned loose. Or, according to MacNeill, he is carried around on the shoulders of four men, while the shopkeepers contribute to his upkeep, then auctioned off.

This fair was once a Lammas fair as indicated by a patent from 1613 that gives the proprietor the right "to hold a faire in Killorglin on Lammas Day and the day after." When the calendar was changed in 1752, it included an exemption for fairs stating that they might continue to be held on the natural day of the year to which people were accustomed.

Although it is tempting to see the goat as evidence of an ancient pagan rite, MacNeill develops a convincing argument that it was a rather late development, perhaps first appearing in the 18th century, and influenced by English fair customs.
MacNeill, Maire, The Festival of Lughnasa, Oxford University Press 1962
.
Huesca, Spain - FIESTA OF SAN LORENZO - The charred bones of Lorenzo, in a reliquary shaped like his head, are carried throughout the streets amid giants, moors & hobby horses. Festive dances & bullfights held.

Wiltshire, England -  TAN HILL FAIR is held on the highest peak of Wiltshire Downs, miles from any town, a survival from ancient times. Salt beef & beans eaten.

Goddess For Today: Zhinu Seven Sisters Festival (China)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Aug 9, 2011 9:21 pm (PDT)

Goddess For Today: Zhinu
Seven Sisters Festival (China)

Themes:  Love; Relationships; Unity; Devotion; Divination
Symbols:  Stars; Silver Items

About Zhinu: Zhinu is a stellar Goddess in China, residing in the constellation of
Lyre, a home from which she tends to harmony within relationships.
According to legend, Zhinu came to earth to bath with six friends, but a herdsman stole her dress.  She could not return to the heavens this
way, so she married him.  Later, however, the Gods called her back to
the stars, and the herdsman followed her.  On the seventh day of the
seventh moon, the two are allowed to meet as husband and wife.

To Do Today:  A similar celebration to the Seven Sisters Festival is the Weaving Festival in Japan (July 7),
which commemorates the love between two stellar deities who meet in the silver river of the Milky Way one
day out of the year. Follow with custom and cover your altar with rice and melons, both of which can become
offerings.  Eat these as part of a meal later to internalize Zhinu's love and devotion.  If you're single, offer her
combs, mirrors, and paper flowers to draw a partner into your life.

Burning incense and reading one's future is also common today.  Watch the smoke from the incense
while thinking about a specific relationship.  See if any shapes form in the clouds.  A heart, for example,
indicates adoration.  A scale reveals a relationship with a healthy balance, and two interconnected rings
indicate unity of mind and soul.

Fire Divination

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Aug 9, 2011 9:31 pm (PDT)

Fire Divination
Incense of the day: Juniper

August 9 is the
festival of the salamanders. The Greeks were the first people to regard
salamanders as the elemental spirits of fire. They often appear as small balls of light within a flame. Without the salamanders, there would be
no warmth or light. You must always approach elementals with a sincere
heart. Be warned that they hate cowardice and greed. Wear red, yellow,
and orange clothing today. Build a fire, and into it toss dried mandrake root and yarrow as an offering to the salamanders. Ask your question.
Gaze into the flames as the fire burns down. You will see images that
speak to your future.

Each Day Is A New Beginning

Each Day Is A New Beginning

Each day is a new beginning. Your task today is to learn the practice of consciously entering
your body and your day. Begin by focusing attention on your entire day from morning to evening.

Review your plans for today:

~Think about where you need to be and with whom you need to be.
~Do you feel stressful about this day or do you feel comfortable?
~Do you feel prepared for today's events?
~Are you projecting fears and expectations into this day?

Sicilian Greek Poet Ibykos, Sixth Century B.C.E.

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Aug 9, 2011 9:32 pm (PDT)

Love is awake in me whatever the season.
Love is a north wind, cold and sharp.
Love is a night on fire with lightning.
Love is shameless. violent, heart-rending.
Love is the madness sent by the Goddess.
~Sicilian Greek Poet Ibykos, Sixth Century B.C.E.

Humans are rare among
mammals in that we are always ready for love. Unlike our animal
relatives, human females do not have special seasons of estrus.
Scientists speculate about why this distinction came about, some
believing that the length of time a human baby must be nurtured gave
rise to a need to bond us more tightly together. And sexual pleasure is, indeed, a great and compelling bond.

This human
biological trait is both a blessing and a curse. It is a blessing,
because we are able to bond with each other beyond the sheer physical
need for release. But love can also feel like a curse, as the poet
Ibykos reminds us, because it opens up to change. Love can overturn our
lives as easily as a child overturns a wagon of toys, which is why we
love the Goddess' child, Eros or Cupid, is pictured as so wanton and
careless of our lives. Yet without its beauty, what would our lives be
worth?
