-----Original Message-----From: ROAD RUSubject: Latest Visa/Mastercard scam warning

-------Visa/Mastercard s

Read this carefully; very important
Can't believe how clever these people are.
scam is true! see http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/creditcard.asp
Visa / MasterCard FRAUD
Just a heads up for everyone regarding the latest in Visa fraud. Royal Bank received this communication about the newest scam. This is happening in the Midwest right now and moving.

This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want..

Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.

This information is worth reading. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'.

The scam works like this:

Person calling says - 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was issued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?' You say 'yes'.

The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'

Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works - The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card. These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card Do you have any other questions?'

After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. And we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number.. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell them you'll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation..

The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit; however, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.

What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word-for-word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain , and so on through the above routine..

It appears that this Is a very active scam, and evidently quite successful.

Pass this on to all your family and friends

Today's Goddess: Genetaska Crow Fair (Montana)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Aug 17, 2011 9:10 pm (PDT)

Today's Goddess: Genetaska
Crow Fair (Montana)

Themes:  Tradition; Unity
Symbols:  Amalgams (any item that mixes different components into a useful, harmonious blend)

About Genetaska:  Since this festival has become a meeting ground for various tribes, we
look to Genetaska to make the day productive and celebratory.  As the Iroquois Mother of
Nations, she not only created human diversity but also maintains the peace within it.

To Do Today: Since 1918, a great gathering of Native American tribes has taken place in
Crow Agency, Montana.  Here people meet, dance, and revel in native traditions.  While the
event is hosted by the Crow Tribe, others attend from tribes as diverse as Inuit and Aztec.  In
keeping with this theme, and to invoke Genetaska's harmony in your life, make peace with
yourself or someone from whom you've been estranged.  Ask Genetaska to help you find
forgiveness in your heart.

Also, listen to some Native American music today, or maybe visit a museum that includes
Native American exhibits to enjoy Genetaska's diversity.  She lives within her people's artistic
expressions of individuality and vision.

Finally, make a stew that includes squash and corn (two traditional Native American foods).
Stir the stew clockwise and invoke Genetaska, saying,

"Diversity and harmony, as I eat, abide in me!" The Goddess will mix and mingle the food to magical perfection.

Make a Wish Ritual
Incense of the day: Geranium

Find a picture of something you desire but can’t afford, and place it on an
orange cloth. Add four coinsâ€"each minted on the year you were born.
Light a white candle, and focus on your desire, saying:

East force, west force, South and north,
Find me the means to soon bring forth
the extra funds I need to acquire
to make come true my heart’s desire.

Use the wax and drip a little on each corner of the picture and fix to each
a
coin. When the wax has dried, wrap it in the cloth and place it in a
safe place that you pass each day. Visualize yourself enjoying your new
luxury. Today’s spell honors the god Portunaliaâ€"the god of harbors. He
assures safe passage for those who honor him. Eat fish or other seafood
and make a wish for protection next time you travel.

Owl Medicine

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Aug 17, 2011 9:12 pm (PDT)

Owl Medicine

We have all heard conflicting stories about Owl and its medicine, or its supernatural power
to protect, cure, heal, and to prevent or cause harm.  Some traditions teach that Owl is
beneficial, while others indicate that Owl brings misfortune.  The truth is for you to decide.

Owl Fact & Myth

Owl is territorial, a vicious fighter and a courageous defender of the nest.  This is why Owl
inspired and protected the Greek armies, and why Roman soldiers believed Owl signified
triumph in battle.  The Japanese drink a toast to Owl before a hunting expedition, and Russians
believe Owl is sacred because it once saved the life of Genghis Khan.

Owl is monogamous in love.  Therefore, Australian aborigines believe Owl represents the soul
of women.  French spinsters call on Owl to help them find a husband.  Also in France, when a
pregnant woman hears the cry of Owl, her child will be a girl.

Owl's approach to rearing offspring is sometimes brutal.  Many Owl chicks starve or are killed
by siblings, depending on food availability.  Perhaps because of these cruel survival tactics,
African Swahili tribesmen believe Owl brings illness to children.  Moroccans believe that Owl's cry
can kill an infant.  Still, some Owl offspring always survive to produce more Owls; consequently,
Owl amulets protect Babylonian women during childbirth.

Dawn, dusk, and the dead of the night is Owl's domain.  Owl is the Hopi god of the dead, guardian
of fires, and tender of all underground things.  Owl attends Lilith, the Sumerian Goddess of death,
and in Mexico is called "messenger of the lord of the land of the dead".  Popular belief holds that
seeing Owl or hearing its cry means impending death, sickness, and misfortune.  Therefore, Owl
is too evil to name in Cameroon, and is known only as "the bird that makes you afraid".

You may have Owl Medicine if you frequently see, hear, or dream of Owl, or if you have gifts of
invulnerability, insight, invisibility, keen observation, wisdom, and curative healing powers.

Owl Medicine
According to mythology, if a person does something wrong, they may become Owl.
Gwydion the Magician turned the unfaithful Blodeuwedd of Celtic Myth into Owl for
betraying a magical secret.  The Supreme Being of Borneo turned his wife into Owl
after she told secrets to mortals.  In Poland, girls who are married turn into Owl when they die.

Witches are sorcerers transform into Owl.  The majority of indigenous tribal people
around the world believe they do too, as shape-shifting is a common practice among
shaman and magicians of various cultures.

If Owl Comes Calling
If you are visited by Owl, do not panic.  Instead, try to interpret what the visit might mean.
For instance, you can interpret Owl's cry by number.

One hoot is an omen of impending death
Two hoots means success in whatever project you start next.
Three hoots represents a woman who will marry into the family.
Four hoots indicates disturbance.
Five hoots denote coming travel.
Six hoots means guests are on the way.
Seven hoots are a sign of mental disease.
Eight hoots foretell sudden death.
Nine hoots symbolize good fortune.

If you hear an Owl hoot late at night, return the call to avoid bad luck.  You can also take off
an item of clothing and put it on again inside out, or get up from bed and turn your left shoe
upside down.  If you see Owl do the following: Throw salt in a fire to avert any possible danger.

Propitiate Owl by setting food, a shiny crystal, or some silver coins near the place where
Owl appeared.Dedicate an altar to Owl.  Cover it with a blue cloth.  Place jewelry, and a
moonstone, pearl, or crystal upon it.  Ask the Lunar Goddess Artemis, Hecate, and Diana
for help and protection.

Finally, never injure Owl, as it is our teacher and elder, and should always be respected.
.

Noriko, Japanese Prayer

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Aug 17, 2011 9:20 pm (PDT)

By the ruler's command,
I speak in the solemn presence of the Goddess,
whose praises are heard all the way
to the upper reaches of the Izusu River:
I speak humbly, concerning the offerings
of the harvest fruits, which will be brought here,
to this divine banquet, to be blessed and purified
and presented to the goddess. Humbly I speak.
~Noriko, Japanese Prayer

At this
time of year, in many cultures, feasts celebrating the harvests were
held. A typical part of such festivals was the offering of first fruits, which meant that some portion of the harvest was designated as
belonging to the divine. Sometimes this portion was used to maintain the priestesses or priests who served the Goddess or God; sometimes it was
distributed among those in need; often it became part of the feast,
partaken by all in the community. What happened to the food after it was offered was not the point; what was important was the fact that it
became, symbolically, sacred.

Our lives
would be much enhanced if we would offer part of everything we earn,
everything we are given, to the divine. A drop of wine, spilled on the
ground, reminds us that we are not the owners of what we consume. The
earth owns us all. We would do well to remember that.

DailyOM: The Power Behind Us

DailyOM - Supporters
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

August 17, 2011
The Power Behind Us
Supporters
Just as there are people that support us, we are a supporter to many people extending the cycle and giving back.

Behind each of us stands at least one supporter. This was once thought to be the spouse who ran the home while leaving the other spouse free to work. While this is still one valid scenario, most of us will find that we have other kinds of supporters in our lives. In some cases, our supporters are the people whose help allows us to do the things we’re best at, see to our obligations, or pursue or dreams. In other cases, our support may come from the people who are there to help us through life’s challenges by offering us their strength and bolstering our spirit.

Our support may come from our families and friends or from the people we hireâ€"nannies, assistants, gardeners, healers, therapists, and advisors. Our supporters may be the mentors who help us express ourselves by listening to us as we share our thoughts and feelings. Our supporter can be the person sitting next to us at a networking meeting or the teacher from our childhood whose words still resonate in our minds. We have always had supporters around us whether we noticed them or not. No matter where the support comes from, few of us can make it through life without assistance.

As we take the time to acknowledge everyone that has every supported us, we can’t help but feel grateful. Understanding our place in our human support system helps us see that just as there are people that support us, we are a supporter to many people. By gratefully accepting the expertise and assistance of our supporters, we can consciously and more easily build a life that we love. Thanks to our staff, groups, friends, and loved ones for all their support. We all need each other’s support to thrive this world.

Introduction to Tarot

Week 5: Tarot Spreads
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
By now you should be feeling pretty comfortable with the idea of looking at a card and figuring out not only its meaning, but how it applies to you. After all, you've been pulling cards each day, right? Have you noticed that one card keeps appearing more than others? Is there a trend towards a certain number or suit?

This week, we'll work on two very simple spreads that you can use, which will help you look at different aspects of a question. If we look at Tarot cards as a tool of guidance, rather than just "fortune telling," we can use them to evaluate a situation to decide on the right course of action. Today we'll look at the Pentagram spread, which looks at the cards in relation to their connection to the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. We'll also learn the Romany spread, which can be used for an overview of past, present and future.

Tarot Spreads
The Pentagram Spread

The pentagram is a five-pointed star sacred to many Pagans and Wiccans, and within this magical symbol you'll find a number of different meanings. Within the pentagram, each of the five points has a meaning. They symbolize the four classical elements -- Earth, Air, Fire and Water -- as well as Spirit, which is sometimes referred to as the fifth element. Each of these aspects is incorporated into this Tarot card layout. Go There

The Romany Spread

The Romany Tarot spread is a simple one, and yet it reveals a surprising amount of information. This is a good spread to use if you are just looking for a general overview of a situation, or if you have several different interconnected issues that you're trying to resolve. This is a fairly free-form spread, which leaves a lot of room for flexibility in your interpretations. It's easy to read the Romany spread by looking simply at the past, present and future. However, you can go into more depth and get a more complex understanding of the situation if you break it down into its different aspects. Go There

Exercise: Practice a Layout

This week, your homework assignment is to practice the Romany and the Pentagram layouts. Use them to read for yourself every day -- and at least once, try to read for someone else. If you're worried that you'll get things "wrong," don't panic. Ask a good friend or trusted family member to let you read for them, using one of the above spreads. Let them know you need some practice, and ask them to give you honest feedback about how you're doing.

Next Week: The Celtic Cross

For our final lesson, we'll learn the Celtic Cross method of Tarot readings. It's one of the most complex methods out there, but it also provides a significant amount of insight into a situation. We'll also talk about what to do if readings go wrong, and readers share their stories of Tarot readings from Hell! Have a magical week, and be sure to practice at least one of these layouts every day.
