Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"You have to have confidence in your own ability to be able to go it alone, to go against what the rest of the culture is doing."

-- Eunice Baumann-Nelson, Ph.D., PENOBSCOT

God, this is hard. Today, allow me to be a Warrior. Let me be strong. Let Your voice be clear to me. Let me hear Your guidance. My goal today is to serve You, to develop myself to be the kind of Indian person that You would have me be. To Walk the Red Road must sometimes be walked alone.

Great Spirit, let me walk the Red Road today with the confidence that You are with me. If I fall, I will quickly ask You to help me know what I should do next.

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"It's time Indians tell the world what we know... about nature and about God. So I'm going to tell you what I know and who I am. You guys better listen. You have a lot to learn.

-- Mathew King, LAKOTA

A long time ago the Creator came to Turtle Island and said to the Red People - "You will be the keepers of the Mother Earth. Among you I will give the wisdom about nature, about the interconnectedness of all things, about balance and about living in harmony. You Red People will see the secrets of nature. You will live in hardship and the blessing of this is you will stay close to the Creator. The day will come when you will need to share the secrets with the other people of the earth because they will stray from their spiritual ways. The time to start sharing is today."

Oh Great Spirit, today I am ready for You to use me as a channel of Your peace. Let my walk today be visible so the people will say "There goes a Man of God." I want to know what He knows. If they ask, I will tell them to go out into the wilderness and pray for You to guide them.

I wanted to ask about your Tuesday Tarot Day - Is that for discussion about the Tarot and other divination systems, or can someone request a reading? I'm fairly well versed in the Runes.

Could you put me in your prayers/Spiritual Healings? Do I need to go into details on that?

Blessed BE.

Merletta Rut

Merry meet and welcome. On "Tarot Tuesday" members can post articles or ask questions on any form of divination, or volunteer to do readings. I usually post a couple of articles on divination.

No details are necessary to be added to the Healing Circle list.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Your Sign

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:50 pm (PDT)

Strengths & Weaknesses of your Sign

Every sign has its strengths and weaknesses. What strikes terror in the heart of a Leo seems like a minor annoyance to a Capricorn. Things that drive Cancer wild with frustration evoke a hearty laugh from Aquarius. If you'd like to make your life -- or somebody else's -- a little smoother, be aware of each sign's special bugaboos.

Aries (March 21 - April 19)
You Rams understand that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. That's why anything that slows you down can make your fiery temper rise.
*What to avoid:* Waiting in line at the post office or DMV; mediation counseling with your ex; art museums; lazy roommates; traffic jams; people who stand in your way; pointless discussions; boring movies; too much foreplay.
*Your survival pack:* A well-loaded iPod; online shopping; Aries friends; a lifetime gym membership; hot-box yoga; someone to vent with; a dart board; a good tennis partner.

Taurus (march 22-June 19)
You might have a hard time getting up in the morning or making a quick decision, Taurus, but once you get going, nobody can stop your forward motion. You love what you love, and there's no arguing with you about it.
*What to avoid:* Ugly objects; fake environments; quick showers; scratchy clothing; flirty partners; forced change; windowless offices; fast-food jobs; nagging mothers.
*Your survival pack:* A flush wallet; a chia pet; a chamois scarf; well-fluffed pillows; a faithful lover; a drive in the country; aromatherapy bubble bath; your favorite collection.

Gemini (May 21 - June 20)
You Geminis are way social. You love hanging out with friends and can't stand being bored for a minute. Multi-tasking was created by the Twins.
*What to avoid:* Too much routine; long lectures; just one choice; a jealous date; an empty calendar; a long drive with no rest stops.
*Your survival pack:* A full address book; two TVs; text-messaging; TiVo; a 60 gigabyte video iPod; faithful friends, and lots of them; People magazine.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22)
Your crab shell comes in handy, Cancer, because without it you are all mush. When your security is threatened, you go into protection mode.
*What to avoid:* Bungee jumping; risky investments; an empty cupboard; long business trips; unemotional partners; fast food; snow camping; biker bars.
*Your survival pack:* Home-cooked meals; a down comforter; old friends; photo albums; family keepsakes; good chocolate.

Leo (July 23 - August 22)
You were born for great things, Leo, so resist the urge to fit in. Don't be too quick to share the spotlight -- you're happiest when all eyes are on you.
*What to avoid:* Sitting in the back row; required uniforms; being ignored; too much time alone; a dead-end job; a date who is self-absorbed; mediocrity; coloring inside the lines.
*Your survival pack:* Admiring friends; karaoke in a crowded bar; a full-length mirror; dinner at a five-star restaurant; a flashy car; great sunglasses.

Virgo (August 23 - September 22)
You've been blessed with a fine eye for detail, Virgo, but that means you have high standards for everyone, including yourself. Reduce your stress by cutting everyone some slack once in a while. The rest of the time, sidestep situations that push your "need-for-order" buttons.
*What to avoid:* Sloppy roommates; apartments with no closets; tiny kitchens; a disheveled date; an itinerary-less vacation; a hotel room with no iron; overpriced stores.
*Your survival pack:* Paper for making lists; other Virgos; a job with deadlines; great deals on quality stuff; good books; closet organizers; a leather-bound day-planner.

Libra (September 23 - October 22)
Ruled by the planet Venus, you're especially sensitive to your environment, Libra ... the people around you as well as your space. Take pains to keep your world beautiful and harmonious.
*What to avoid:* People who pick arguments for fun; a dark office; violent films; dull clothes; a partner who criticizes you; anonymity; too much routine; noisy apartments.
*Your survival pack:* Fresh flowers; lavender bath oil; gentle, caring friends; meditation music; shopping; a trip to the spa; a surprise date at a romantic restaurant.

Scorpio (October 23 - November 21)
You're one of the deeper -- and darker -- signs of the zodiac, Scorpio, and that's just the way you like it. More than others, you understand there is no happiness without pain. Nothing makes you crazier than someone telling you "smile!" or "cheer up!"
*What to avoid:* Game shows; cheerleading competitions; boy band concerts; half-full glasses; mysteries that have already been solved; direct sunlight; people who ask too many personal questions; dating someone with bad credit.
*Your survival pack:* Melancholy Britpop; black eyeliner; true crime novels; thunderstorms; "Six Feet Under' on DVD; a private savings account.

Sagittarius (November 22 - December 21)
You're a wanderer, Sagittarius -- you roam around and around and around. To you, a life without adventure is a life without purpose. Timid friends won't be your buds for long.
*What to avoid:* Familiar faces and places; boundaries and limitations; homebodies; routines; know-it-alls; half-empty glasses; someone who tells you "you can't."
*Your survival pack:* A road map; a full tank of gas; trusty companions; a new destination; newspapers and philosophy books; causes to fight for; a parachute.

Capricorn (December 22 - January 19)
You'll climb the ladder of success, dear Goat, but your insecurities may plague you on the way to the top. Don't underestimate your talents.
*What to Avoid:* A smothering mother; beating yourself up; rebels and outlaws; undefined goals; anything less than an A+; a high maintenance lover.
*Your Survival Pack:* Your security badge; daily affirmations; a five-year plan; precise measuring tools; good hiking boots; a to-do list; ambitious friends.

Aquarius (January 20 - February 18)
Not everybody shares your ability to make brilliant deductions, Aquarius. While others are trying to figure out how to program TiVo, you've hit upon an idea that blows quantum physics out of the water.
*What to Avoid:* The limelight; celebrity gossip; straight and narrow friends; linear thinking; a partner who needs you to be emotionally available.
*Your Survival Pack:* A telescope; your PDA; an astrology calendar; a community of friends; eccentric outfits; a skylight.**

Pisces (February 19 - March 20)
You desire transcendence, but take care how you escape reality, Pisces. The Fish may get his or her highs from dance and meditation ... or from booze and too much daydreaming.
*What to Avoid:* Jobs that require "attention to detail"; housecleaning; a nit-picky roommate; shoes that don't fit; hard science; too much to drink; a lover who hates to cuddle.
*Your Survival Pack:* A large DVD collection; dance shoes; an aquarium; a meditation cushion; group therapy; visits to the ocean; romantic poetry.

Cleaner Air in Any Room

The most popular oils for disinfecting the air are:

Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Lemon, Pine and Sage.
The best method for using the oils would be an electric diffuser but if
you only have an aroma lamp that will help as well.

A Carrot, an Egg, and a Cup of Coffee

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:54 pm (PDT)

A Carrot, an Egg, and a Cup of Coffee.

A young woman went to her mother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl. Turning to her daughter, she asked, "Tell me what you see."

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," she replied. Her mother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The mother then asked the daughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg, Finally, the mother asked the daughter to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled, as she tasted its rich aroma the daughter then asked, "What does it mean, mother?"

Her mother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its insides became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

"Which are you?" she asked her daughter. "When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean? Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level? How do you handle adversity?

Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean? May you have enough happiness to make you sweet, enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human and enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way. The future is based on a forgotten past; you go forward in life when you let go of your past failures.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling.
Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

I am passing this on to those people who mean something to me; to those who have touched my life in one way or another; to those who make me smile when I really need it; to those who lift me up when I am really down; to those whose friendship I appreciate.

May we all be Coffee!!

The Magical Diary

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:12 pm (PDT)

The Magical Diary

Grimoire. Book of Shadows. Book of Mirrors. Book of Lights and Shadows. Diary. Journal. Pillow Book. What's a Witch to use when they want to keep records of what they do? Hopefully, these ideas will give you a beginning point. That way, you can experiment and see which type of record-keeping system works best for you without losing track of your magical workings.

Why Is Record-keeping So Important?

As a Witch, you are a type of natural scientist. You are learning
and relearning the natural ways in which the Earth moves and the cycles change. You are also integrating that knowledge with modern technology, finding out what works, what doesn't, what the variables are, and why. When a spell works, you want to know the ingredients, as one does with any good recipe. When it doesn't work, you want to be able to retrace every step to find out why, see what you can change, make note of it, and make it work the next time. While memory is a wonderful thing and many people have excellent memories, we live in an age of information overload, and writing one's work down is the best way to ensure it is saved.

Diaries have been used in personal and spiritual record-keeping from
Japanese pillow books to Samuel Pepys to Virginia Woolf to Anais Nin, one of the most famous diarists of all time. The listing of hopes, fears, and the daily minutiae of life are a way to keep in touch with one's own past and the past of one's society. For inspiration, go to your local library and look up some diaries or diary anthologies. My personal favorite is called "A Book of One's Own," edited by Thomas Mallon. It's a wonderful tome to dip into when feeling tired or out of sorts.

The biggest thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong way
to keep a diary. The only "must" is that each entry must be dated. Diaries are a personal place where you can express yourself without fear. No one under any circumstances has the right to read your diary without your permission. If that means buying a locked box and wearing the key around your neck, do it, and then start rethinking your living situation.

Magical record-keeping differs from general diary keeping in the need
to be as precise as possible. As mentioned earlier, there is no right or
wrong way to keep a diary. You can write stream of consciousness, portraits, lists, or dialogues with parts of yourself (see "The New Diary" by Tristine Ranier for some wonderful ideas). With magical diary-keeping, however, precision is important. What day is it? What time is it? What phase of the Moon? What ingredients did you use, and how did you mix them in? Did you say the incantation before or after you lit the candle? How did it feel? Did you cast a full ritual circle, or do something simpler? What colors and astrological correspondences did you use? At the end of the "how to"
section, leave room for reflection. Sometimes I reflect at the end
of the ritual. Sometimes I wait a few hours or even a few days, just to
make sure my thoughts and feelings are in order.

If you like extreme organization or follow Ira Progroff's theory in
his "Intensive Journal Workshop," you can do all of this in three-ring
binders. You can decide on how to separate your sections, have an index, and cross-reference rituals under headings like love, money, rosemary, bay, water, and the waxing Moon.

I'm sure that if I did it that way, I'd be Organizational Witch of
the Year, but I'm not, and that way feels too structured. So I have a couple of different organization setups that I will share with you.

The Diary

First and foremost is my diary. This is the depository of my daily
life. It is a bound book that I often carry in my purse and scribble in
whenever I get the chance. It is full of random thoughts, joy, and, of course, anything that is bugging me at the time. It is my mirror self, my balancing agent, and my best non-human friend apart from my cats. Magically, I also write in my morning and evening devotionals any daily tarot guidance or meditative work that I do. I write about the rituals I participate in after I get home, thinking through what I liked and what I think needs to be taken into consideration the next time. Although most enthusiasts insist on keeping a separate dream diary, I keep my dreams in my daily diary because my dreams are so connected to my daily life. I date every entry with the day of the week, the month, and the day (the year is on the front page). I put down the phase of the Moon, what astrological sign the Moon is in, and the weather. The weather is a new addition, suggested by Silver RavenWolf, and I
found it makes an enormous difference when I go back to look things up. I go through about one blank book every month or two, and I write a book blessing on the front page of each one.

Mirror Book

For several years I kept a Mirror Book where I wrote only about
magic. I made passing references to my magical work in my daily diary, but took my Mirror Book to ritual (Circle of Muses, one of my covens, uses journal writing often in ritual to center and get the creative juices flowing). As I integrated my life and my spirituality and each became indivisible in my daily life, I found that keeping a diary and Mirror Book made me feel fragmented. Since my life was now integrated, those journals needed to be integrated too.

I tried to integrate my tarot readings, animal oracle and Celtic tree
oracle readings into the daily diary as well, and I ran into trouble there. It was difficult to go back and check how things had played out. I like to go back over my reading several months later to see how it worked out. Did I misrepresent something? Was I warned about something and did I take the correct action to prevent pain or mistakes? How could I have interpreted the cards better? It's a good way to use twenty-twenty hindsight to help one's foresight. Keeping a separate book for divination helps me keep track of progress that way. I still often discuss the readings in my daily diary as well as in the reflection section of the readings, so there is overlap.

Book of Shadows

As far as my circle work goes, I do keep a Book of Shadows for each
group with which I work, and a Book of Shadows for rituals I pull from the online services. I have them in date order, with the most recent ritual at the front. Around every Samhain, I go back and re-read all the rituals in which I've participated for that year, and do an evaluation. I also jot down the various deities we've worked with so that I can thank them in my annual ritual of thanks. These are kept in three-ring binders and stored under my main working altar. At the end of various rituals, I also make sure I write down any extemporaneous changes or inspirations that happened during the course of the ritual. It's helpful in tracking patterns.

What about a grimoire? I keep one of those, too. My grimoire is
entirely handwritten in a bound blank book. I put the spells that have been tested, re-tested, and tested some more, having a high rate of success. Basically, my grimoire has my "kick ass" spells in it, whether for healing, protection, or hex-breaking. My grimoire contains the experiments that work.

Record-keeping is extremely important. Sometimes the last thing you
want to do after an intense ritual is sit there and write about it, but it's important to your continuing progress to know what worked and didn't
work so you can find out why. Try different kinds of record keeping. Use loose-leaf, your computer, a bound book, preprinted forms, or make lists. When you find what works for you, you will know it because it will feel right. You will feel more integrated. Remember, you can always change your mind and keep a different set of books. Merry writing!

Spell to Draw Spirits

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Spell to Draw Spirits

To draw beneficial spirits toward you, place an Ouija board in the center of your table for three nights, but don't use it. Later, get together with three spiritually inclined friends. Light a candle, hold hands, sit in a darkened room, and call on the spirits. Make up a name for your ghost. Ask: "Jack? Is that you?" If the spirit is not named Jack, he or she will then correct you. Watch your candle flame dip and dart. If the fire appears to go out and spikes up again, you have likely made spiritual contact. Ask your spirits to reveal themselves. After contact, consider the words, thoughts, and pictures that surface in your mind. Examine such thoughts carefully. Telepathy is the usual way most spirits communicate with us.

The Witchery

The Witchery

The Study of Nature or, religion of Nature, is witchcraft.
The study of Nature or, religion of nature, is the doing of things in
the natural order. Using and understanding the fusion of the
electrical forces contained within ourselves and nature is what the
craft is all about.

There is an equal balance, the coming and going of the tides. The rise
and set of the sun and the position of the other celestial bodies in
our solar system. The spells and rituals help one to concentrate in
the performance of a magical quest, using knowledge based on all these
things.

The purifications of the spirit and the flesh completes the circle of
power. There are many evil things in our realm so we ask the Deities
of nature and the Goddess for protection. We honor them with gifts of
incense & oils of exquisite scents and ask them for protection.

This Witchery is based on memories & knowledge of Ancient Wisdoms passed
down to me by my Scottish Grandma. It is a world of
knowledge and experience blended with lots of research. Magical
quests are of a personal nature, and by all means write your own spells for
the best results.

I will attempt to pass some of my wisdom to you I hope that you will have
fun and learn a lot.

CHOOSING YOUR NATURE SPIRIT

We all have an infinity towards certain types of animal spirits, our
Animalities if you wish. In ancient times it was easier for people to
commune with nature because there was so much of it, but in our
modern world we have to go out of the way to get back to nature. Just
as nature teaches us balance, we must look to the inside for equal
balance as well.

Take a moment to commune with your inner spirit and choose the animal which
suits you ...Look at the pro's & con's of your spirit guide
choice. Make sure it will be as dependable to your craft as you will
be.

Once you make the choice and you feel it is really you then this
spirit shall be yours and it will help you carry out your magical
quests.

~~~~~CHOOSING YOUR CRAFT NAME~~~~~
Choosing your craft name is personal in nature and I will not say to
much on the subject. However, you can use the numerology table below to see
if your name suits you. You must figure your birth number
first and then you must choose a name with the same number.
Example Birth Date:~~September 5, 1946~~
would read as 9+5+1+9+4+6 = 34~~~~ add 3+4 = 7~~ so in this example the
birth number would be (7).
1~~~~2~~~~3~~~~4~~~~5~~~~6~~~~7~~~~8~~~~9~~~~
a~~~~b~~~~c~~~~d~~~~e~~~~f~~~~g~~~~h~~~~i~~~~
j~~~~k~~~~l~~~~m~~~~n~~~~o~~~~p~~~~q~~~~r~~~~
s~~~~t~~~~u~~~~v~~~~w~~~~x~~~~y~~~~z~~~~~~~~~
Choose a craft name and look up the letters and see if they add up to
your birth number. You must choose a name which is right for you.
This may take some time to find a suitable names that matches.. but
it is worth it.
CORD MAGIC
Many Witches work with Cord Magic, it is a personal choice. The cord is nine
feet long (3x3)and it is red the color of blood, which
represents the life force. It should be constructed out of silk (3
each of 3 foot sections sown together. As you work with the
construction of the cord you are putting your own energy into it and
making it one with you. Tie a knot in each end to keep it from fraying.
Consecrate the cord when it is finished.
~~~The Consecration Ritual Words~~~

Oh, Mother Night, Creator of all life I present to you my magic cord,
designed from nature by my hand. I pray for your approval, if you art
pleased, from this day forward it may serve as my tool in your service.

When cord is not in use, you must keep it wrapped in a piece of white
linen. This is a storage tool for your power and should not be used
for anything but magic quests.

The Cord Spell~~

I cast the knot of number 1~~~~
~~making sure the spell's begun~~
I cast the knot of number 2~~~~
~~my heart is pure, the spell is true~~
I cast the knot of number 3~~~~
~~The powers strong, I call on thee~~
I cast the knot of number 4~~~~
~~in this cord my power store~~
I cast the knot of number 5~~~~
~~my power makes this spell alive~~
I cast the knot of number 6~~~~
~~the wrong will right, the spell shall fix~~
I cast the knot of number 7~~~~
~~currents shall shift, the bad is leavened~~
I cast the knot of number 8~~~~
~~what is done will be thy fate~~
I cast the knot of number 9~~~~
~~this magic issue is still mine.

Upon casting you will chant your spell and tie the first knot.
Chanting again and you will feel the energy to tie the next knot, go
back to chanting, etc. You will feel when the time is right to tie
each knot, then revert back to chanting of your particular spell.

Upon tying of the last knot all energies are directed into the cord
and visualization of the quest is necessary. Now you have nine knots
and your power is stored within.

The knots now must be released one at a time, for nine consecutive
days and in the same order in which they were tied. Each day before
the knot is untied, concentrate on your quest at hand raise the
energy and untie. The last knot the most powerful when untied
completes the release and you are done. Your spell is on the wind.

Fold your cord and place it back in its white linen wrap.

HOW TO MAKE CEREMONIAL CANDLES

TOOLS~~double boiler, wooden spoon, wax paper~~~~(if you do not have a
double boiler use large pot filled halfway with water and a 3lb. coffee can to put
inside)

SUPPLIES~~2-4 pounds Paraffin wax or beeswax~~candle wicks, oils for scent,
herbs, candle dyes. Note: you can use crayons for color with great success.

Put wax in coffee can (cut up in suitable size chunks)
Heat water in big pot to boil. Once water is boiling turn heat down.
Put coffee can in boiling water, make sure water level is low enough
to keep water out of wax. Keep water heated to just melt wax, stir with
wooden spoon only until no chunks of wax are left. WARNING WAX IS HIGHLY
FLAMABLE---KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE. Stir carefully.

Mix herbs in small bowl, set aside. Break crayons or candle dye and
mix in the wax. Stir until melted and your color is smooth. Deeper
hues are gained by more crayon.

Add herbs, stir into wax mixture. Choice of herbs should be made in
keeping with the choice of magical quest the candle is intended for,
along with the color.

Add 10 - 20 drops of essential oils. Choose only natural oils in
making candles for magic or ritual use. Stir well. The wax should be
richly scented now and is ready for dipping.

Cut your wick twice the length of the intended candle plus add at
least 3 more inches. (2 candles will be made with this one wick) Bend
wick in half, holding it by the middle and begin dipping it in and
out of the wax. Allow each dip to dry somewhat and keep dipping until
the candles start to take on shape. Once they get to this stage you
may dip candles in cold water to speed up the cooling process.
Continue dipping and cooling until candles reach the size you want.

Hang candles until the wax is set but not hard. Place candles on wax
paper and roll to smooth its finish. Take a sharp knife and trim
excess wax to form a bottom to your candles. Dip 2 more times to
achieve a fine finish and hang candles to dry. When totally dry you
can cut the wicks between the candles wrap in tissue paper for
storage. that's all there is to it.

A Harvest Meditation

A Harvest Meditation

As the seasons turn, we begin in August to reap what we have figuratively sown earlier during the agricultural cycle of planting, growth, fruition, and decline. Now is a good time to reflect upon the last eight months of this year's calendar, and to observe your life's efforts. Ask yourself what projects have you nurtured into being? What goals have you met? What unexpected challenges were you able to surmount? Take the time now to contemplate the fruit of all your labors. As a symbol of your allegiance to the cycles of nature, eat a piece of ripe fruit or a fresh vegetable today, and be conscious of living in the moment and savoring every bite. When you are finished, take the seeds, pit, stem, or core, and return all of these to the earth. Consider starting a compost pile to symbolize your connection to the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Embrace life's inevitable decline by returning the energies of today's food to the earth. This is at the core of this season's lessons: Nothing is wasted in nature.

Aging by George Carlin

Aging
by George Carlin

Do you realize the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when
we're kids?

If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that you
think in fractions.

"How old are you?"
"I'm four and a half!"
You're never thirty-six and a half.
You're four and a half, going on five!

That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back.
You jump to the next number, or even a few ahead.

"How old are you?"
"I'm gonna be 16!"

You could be 13, but hey, you are going to be 16.

And then the greatest day of your life...you become 21.

Even the words sound like a ceremony...

YOU BECOME 21

YESSSS!!!

But then you turn 30.

Oooohh, what happened there?
Makes you sound like bad milk.
He TURNED, we had to throw him out.
There's no fun now, you're just a sour-dumpling.
What's wrong?
What's changed?

You BECOME 21, you TURN 30...then you're PUSHING 40.

Whoa!
Put on the brakes,
It's all slipping away!!!
Before you know it, you REACH 50... and your dreams are gone.

But wait.....

You MAKE IT to 60

You didn't think you would!

So you:

BECOME 21
TURN 30
PUSH 40
REACH 50
and
MAKE IT to 60.

You've built up so much speed that you...

HIT 70!

After that it's a day-by-day thing;

You HIT Wednesday!

You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle:

You HIT lunch
You TURN 4:30
You REACH bedtime.

My grandmother won't even buy green bananas!
It's an investment, you know, and maybe a bad one!!

And it doesn't end there...

Into the 90s, you start going backwards:

"I was JUST 92."

Then a strange thing happens.

If you make it over 100, you become a little kid again.

"I'm 100 and a half!"

May you all make it (healthily) to 100 and a half!

The light of a hundred stars cannot equal the light of the Moon.

Emotional Wreck--Or Empath

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:20 pm (PDT)

Emotional Wreck--Or Empath?

I remember with detailed clarity the winter night when I could no longer ignore the bothersome barrage of emotions I'd felt coming from other people every day of my life. Often these intruders were strangers, as was this elderly man who boarded our bus just before midnight on a cold night in Harlem.

In the memory I'm just seventeen, sitting in the back of a crosstown bus with some friends, on the first leg of our way back to a place in midtown where we could crash for the night. And as soon as this unknown gentleman sits down on one of the side-facing seats in the middle of the bus, the memory consists only of him. If I were an artist I could draw a picture of him, and the background of the bus, and the night-darkened neighborhood where he boarded.

He wore a white jacket, unzipped. It appeared thin, but underneath I could see a green and blue plaid flannel shirt and the evidence of a thermal undershirt at the collar. He carried a gun-metal gray lunch box, darkened and dinged from years of use.

What overwhelmed me most were the emotions I felt. They entered me, became part of me, and I could feel everything he was feeling. Emotions come to an empath in layers, just as if they are sprayed from a bottle of perfume. The top note was despair and resignation. Beneath that was resentment and a strong sense of loyalty. The bottom note was composed of the dead desires of youth and anger long since released.

Perhaps this old gentleman was depressed, knowing that he was again going to a job he hated, knowing he had no choice, and knowing that at this point in his life there would be no other choices. Did he have a wife? Grandchildren to spoil? Would he retire soon? Could he afford to retire? Or would he continue to work until his death?

Long-lost dreams hovered within, veiled by a consciousness that tried hard to suppress those plans and hopes of his youth. At seventeen I understood poverty, and I was aware of the decades of deep prejudice this African-American man had endured.

He sat with his eyes cast down at the floor under the empty side seat opposite him. I don't think he was aware of my fixed stare, but I could not disconnect from the emotions bombarding me, and my eyes were part of how I read the messages he sent. If he did notice my intense gaze he was polite enough not to remark in my apparent rudeness. Then again, perhaps he was conditioned during the decades of Jim Crow not to raise his eyes to meet those of a strange white girl.

When the man got off at his stop I felt as if I breathed for the first time since I saw him. The source of the sorrowful feelings was out of my presence, but the power of his emotions had merged with mine so thoroughly that when my friends and I were back in midtown Manhattan, at a crowded coffee shop, my preoccupation was remarked upon by everyone. So I pretended to listen, laugh, and join in the conversation, but I was still emotionally bound to that elderly African-American man. To this day I wonder what happened during the remainder of his life.

From my earliest memories such emotions plagued me. I assumed they were normal and never understood why no one talked about them or, even stranger to me, why no one ever acted upon them. I could never be mean to the new kid in school, and to hear about a hurt or abused animal would haunt me for weeks. I couldn't understand why other people didn't immediately react when reading the emotional messages people sent. When I was a young as seven I could feel the effects of words on a third person, and cringed at things others said. Often I tried to smooth over situations where I knew words were escalating negative emotions, but the person doing the talking always seemed as clueless to my attempts as I was to his lack of empathy.

I was almost thirty before my Craft teacher and mentor asked me if I'd considered that I might be an empath. I knew what empathy was, but thought empaths were the creation of science fiction. Wrong! There are empathic people everywhere, and, my teacher told me, she believed that as people opened themselves to the awareness of other realities as they studied Paganism or New Age practices, they also opened their emotional centers. She told me I was a classic case. I was born with an empathic predilection. I'd carried it through to adulthood, and then Pagan practices had kept this channel open, perhaps even expanding it.

If she was correct, it would answer lots of old riddles.

She said only I could say for sure what I was and was not. She asked me a series of questions to consider instead of slapping a label on my forehead. I didn't have to think about them very long. They made it clear to me that I was an unshielded empath. Since that revelation twenty years ago I have developed a self-examination or my students to consider if they think they might be empaths. There are no right or wrong answers, but if you notice that your inner turmoil seems to come from other living beings and not fictional character and events, and not as much from objects (sensing emotions from objects is called psychometry, and this is another topic completely), then you may be able to pinpoint where you fall on the empath continuum.

1. Does a sad movie or TV show stay with you emotionally all night?
2. Does a sad true story stay with you emotionally all night, or perhaps longer?
3. Do you feel you require more solitude than others to remain healthy and balanced?
4. Do you prefer nighttime to daytime?
5. DO you work with the public on a regular basis and, if so, how do you handle upset, angry, or frightened customers?
6. Are you comfortable in old homes or antique stores?
7. Does the way you feel about a person influence the way you feel about the gift they may give you?
8. Do you feel as if you're being watched even when others say you're imagining things or call you paranoid?
9. Do you act on feelings of fear, regardless of what others do, only to discover you were correct because you were sensing the emotions of someone out to do harm?
10. Do friends and family members trust your instincts about who, what, and where is safe?
11. How long does it take you to "shake off the day" when you finish working?
12. Do you have a history of making friends with the annoying person no one else wants around?
13. Do you find it hard to say "no" when people or organizations ask for extra help, even when you are struggling to carry your own load?

If you're an empath, the answers to these questions probably came with ease and perhaps specific examples. Empaths feel no fear from most objects, but will pick up on dangerous intentions in other people. They often prefer nighttime to daytime because there are fewer people awake and about to bombard the unprotected empath with emotional chaos. Solitude is a necessity so the empath can ground and reenergize. They find it hard to say no to anyone or anything, and always feel sorry for the "odd person out." They will end up adopting the friendless because they can't stand to feel the pain from someone else's loneliness. Sad movies or TV shows affect them as they would anyone else--after all, it's only fiction--but the true stories of atrocities wrought on other living creatures is a negative energy that works its way into the solar plexus and begins to feast on the emotional pain.

So how does an empath ward themselves from this daily bombardment of random emotions without warding out their compassion?

Start by identifying your hop spots, the times when you feel that kick in the solar plexus or in the stomach. These are two of the body's most earthy and emotion-centered chakras, energy centers on the body that allow specific energies to move in and out of us. the term "kick in the gut" has a telling history.

Once you identify your hop spots, you can prepare for them ahead of time, and protect your own emotional health and well-being without losing your compassion or your ability to read emotions. You must find a way of controlling them rather than allowing them to spin your life out of control when they hit. For empaths these hits are daily and multiple kicks in the gut.
The seven major chakra centers on the body can be controlled by your will and visualization. You may have to begin doing this in a meditative state of mind, but with practice you can raise your shields as soon as you know you need them. When you feel the emotional bombardment, visualize the chaos being channeled upward into the throat, third eye (center of forehead), or crown chakra. These chakras--the latter two in particular--are connected to spirit, thought, and reason. Pulling the emotional turmoil upward will allow you to sort through these feelings rationally. This puts you in a position to apply rational objectivity rather than knee-jerk subjectivity to your emotional reactions to other's emotional chaos. This is an excellent technique if you're not sure what to focus on and what to let go.

Chakras can also be closed, open, or somewhere in between. While prevailing opinion is that they should be more open than closed, and all in equal proportions, this is not good advice for an empath. (If you have someone do a chakra balancing for you be sure to let that person know you're empathic.) The empath needs the solar plexus and navel area chakras more closed than open. You want to be able to feel and remain a person of compassion, but you also want to filter out the overload.

You may also need to clear your home and work areas of clutter. Some people thrive in an environment of knickknacks and family photos, others feel jittery. Just the sight of all these things causes an emotional overload.

The same advice applies to the people in your life. If you have a person who is always living from crisis to crisis, and always comes to you for help, you must wean this person away from dependence on you. Some people love to live this way, some for the attention, others because they need some intervention to get them on a normal life-track.

The mental image of a battle shield, an egg of light, a multifaceted mirror ball, or a warning ax or blade are also images you can employ in your defense. These are good techniques for those who work daily with the public and are the scapegoat for other's anger, verbal abuse, frustration, and need to bully someone.

To avoid taking home any of the emotional mess you have collected during the workday, use each step as you walk to your car, bus, or train as a method of grounding. As each foot hits the pavement, visualize the unwanted emotions of the day sinking into the ground where Mother Earth will cleanse them and keep them far away from you.

Wearing protective jewelry is another popular method of blocking or collecting unwanted energies from others. A clean quartz crystal worn around your neck and settled against your heart center can be empowered as an emotion catcher. Allow it to take the brunt of the negative emotions each day and cleanse it again at night by running it under cool water and visualizing the negative energies being cleared and drained away.

As you experiment with what works best for you in the emotional warding department, you'll eventually stumble upon a method or combination of methods that works for you. Best of all, you'll notice yourself feeling healthier and more energetic as time goes by and you gain expertise in dodging or blocking both the random and the focused emotional debris of others.

Faerie Sight

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:21 pm (PDT)

Faerie Sight

It is generally supposed that faeries can present themselves to human sight if they wished to do so, but there seem to be also certain means and certain times when they can be caught unaware. One of the most general means is by a four-leafed clover, or by the use of the well-known faerie ointment, compounded of four-leafed clovers,which disperses the glamour that faeries can cast over human senses. Once a human eye has been touched by the ointment, it can penetrate faerie disguises, and this power is only removed by a blast of faerie breath or the more vindictive blinding of the seeing eyes.

There are certain "gifted" individuals who have permanent or sporadic powers of
faerie sight, without faerie permission. They are called the "second sighted". These individuals are also believed to have the ability to foretell the future. It is a generally belief that the innocent and pure of heart are more likely to be able to see a faerie. Hence, young children are generally considered to be more receptive to faerie sight.

In addition, there are certain times which are especially suitable for seeing faeries. Twilight is one of them, midnight and the hour before sunrise, and noon, when the sun is at its meridian. It is said, too, that you can only see the faeries as long as you can look at them steadily; that is why captured Leprechauns try to make people look aside. If you hold a faerie in your line of sight, it cannot escape, but if you so much as blink, it will vanish.

Another way, perhaps a more dangerous way, is to set one foot into a faerie ring. If only one foot goes into a faerie ring can see pixies, but can still escape. The gift of faerie sight is not inherent in hybrid faeries from interracial births or adopted human babies. These children would need a topical faerie ointment applied to their eyes to see their kindred.

Creating a Moon Altar and Goddess Box

Creating A Moon Altar and Goddess Box

In a household space that will not be disturbed, place pictures of family members, pets, and friends. Place three white or clear stones or marbles in the bottom of a clear glass vase. Collect white flowers from your yard or garden, or purchase some at a floral shop. Place the flowers in the vase with water, and add a little sugar and salt. Add a small wooden box, preferably made from white oak or pine. Write down anything that is bothering you and place the paper in the box. Ask the Goddess to take care of the situation for you, and stop worrying about it. Be sure to remove any wilted flowers immediately, and replace them with fresh flowers. As your problems are resolved, remove them from the box. Thank the Goddess for her help. Bury or burn the paper outside.
