Get Ready for Imbolc!
Day 3: The Goddess Brighid
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
In many traditions of Paganism, the Celtic goddess Brighid is celebrated at Imbolc. A protector of hearth and home, Brighid is a fire goddess who is typically associated with poetry, smithcraft, and inspiration. She was especially honored when it came to matters of prophecy and divination. A sacred flame was maintained by a group of priestesses, and her sanctuary at Kildare became the home of a saint when Ireland converted to Christianity.
Brighid, Hearth Goddess of Ireland
In Irish legend, Brighid was the daughter of the Dagda, and was a goddess associated with domesticity and motherhood. However, later on she became connected to a nun called Brighid, who eventually became a saint. In her many aspects, Brighid has followers all over the Celtic lands...Read More

Get Ready for Imbolc!
Day 4: Ritual and Ceremony
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
At Imbolc, we're saying farewell to winter. We know that spring is approaching, but hasn't quite arrived yet. After all, Imbolc is the halfway point between Yule and Ostara. Take a moment to celebrate the end of winter's cold nights and gray skies, and think about the new life that will begin in a few weeks.
Candle Ritual for Solitaries
Hundreds of years ago, when our ancestors relied upon the sun as their only source of light, the end of winter was met with much celebration. Although it is still cold in February, often the sun shines brightly above us, and the skies are often crisp and clear. As a festival of light, Imbolc came to be called Candlemas. On this evening, when the sun has set once more, call it back by lighting the seven candles of this ritual. Although this ceremony is written for one, it can easily be adapted for a small group...Read More
Farewell to Winter Ritual
By Imbolc, we're all getting cabin fever -- it's cold, we're snowed in, and frankly, we're all a bit tired of winter. This simple ritual is a fun one to do with your family on a snowy day, but can also be performed by a single person. The best time to do it is when you have a fresh layer of snow on the ground, but if that's not possible, never fear. Find a big pile of snow to work in...Read More
Imbolc Oil
This magical oil can be used in Imbolc rituals and ceremonies. Blend it up in advance so you'll have it on hand for your February celebrations...Read More
Imbolc Incense
Make a batch of Imbolc incense that blends the scents of winter with those of the coming spring...Read More
Tomorrow: Saying Goodbye to Winter
In addition to today's Farewell to Winter ritual, there are other ways you can symbolically move out of winter and into spring. We'll talk about meditation, an Imbolc divination, and why so many people like a good spring cleaning!

Get Ready for Imbolc!: Day 5: Saying Goodbye to Winter

Get Ready for Imbolc!
Day 5: Saying Goodbye to Winter
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
It's February, and we're all tired of being cold. Send winter on its way with a few end-of-the-season celebrations. Imbolc is a good time to do some divination as to what's headed your way in the coming year, as well as some meditation. Finally, we'll also talk about the whole idea of "spring cleaning" and why it's so good for us to do!
End of Winter Meditation
This meditative journey is one you can read ahead of time, and then recall as you meditate, or you can record yourself reading it aloud, and listen to it as a guided meditation later on. You can even read it aloud as part of a group ritual. The ideal place to perform this meditation is somewhere outside -- try to pick a day that's warm, or at the very least sunny...Read More
Brighid's Crossroads Divination
Imbolc is a time when the Wheel of the Year has reached a crossroads between light and dark. The earth is about to quicken, and yet no one knows exactly what lies ahead of us. There are twists and turns on the path to come, although where it leads is anyone's guess. Among her many aspects, Brighid is considered a goddess of the crossroads. She is said to be able to see where we've been, and where each road might take us, should we choose to follow it. Let Brighid guide you and inspire you on the path...Read More
Imbolc House Cleansing Ceremony
No one really likes to clean, but we all know we feel better when our physical space is tidy. It's one of life's necessary chores. Start your spring off with a good thorough cleaning, and then follow that up with a spiritual cleansing. This is a great ritual to perform at Imbolc -- remember that for many of our ancestors, washing came only a few times a year, so by February, a house was probably smelling pretty ripe. Pick a bright sunny day to do a clean sweep, and then invite friends and family to join you in a blessing of your home...Read More
Tomorrow: Crafts and Creations
In tomorrow's lesson, we'll look at some simple "crafts for the Craft" you can put together to celebrate Imbolc and honor the goddess Brighid.

Goddess of The Day: PAX Festival of Pax (Rome)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Sun Jan 29, 2012 9:45 pm (PST)
Goddess of The Day: PAX
Festival of Pax (Rome)
Theme: Peace
Symbols: White Items; Corn; Cornucopia; Olive Branch
About Pax: Pax is the
Roman Goddess of peace; she urges us to keep harmony among one another
as a sacred commodity throughout the year. On coins, Pax appears
youthful and often bears an olive branch to extend the hand of truce or a cornucopia, indicating that there is an abundance of peace for those
who truly seek it.
To Do Today: Remember
Pax by wearing or carrying something whole today and offering to make
amends with someone with whom you've had an argument.
Alternatively, make a
funnel from a piece of white paper (like a cornucopia). Leave this
somewhere predominate. Each time you have an angry or discordant
thought, toss a coin into the funnel. At the end of the day donate these coins (plus a few dollars) to a charity that promotes peace.
Roman custom dictated
that the images of all leaders were to be placed at Pax's feet on this
day, as to invoke her amicable energy to their interactions. This isn't a bad idea for modern leaders, either! Take any pictures you have of
world leaders (check newspapers and magazines). If you can't find
pictures, write their names on white paper instead. Put these in a pile
before a white candle. As you light the candle, say:
Pax, let peace fill their hearts.
Let all hatred depart.
Peace be between me and thee, and all those I meet.

Feather Ritual for Good Fortune

Feather Ritual for Good Fortune
For this spell,
you will need a feather from a wild bird (found, not taken), one drop of pine or juniper oil, a candle, some incense, some salt, and water.
First, consecrate the feather with the energies of the four elements.
Sprinkle it with salt
(earth), pass it
through incense smoke (air), pass it quickly near the candle flame
(fire), and sprinkle it with water (water). Anoint the feather with a
single drop of oil and say:
Fortune, find me.
Hear my wish.
Upon the breeze,
accept this gift.
Release the feather into a strong wind, or, if necessary, leave it outside where the wind can take it. ~Ember

An Herbal Medicine Chest

An Herbal Medicine Chest
By Wystira Moonsinger
.
Having your own herbal medicine chest is a very handy tool to have in your home. You probably have most of the herbs you need right in your kitchen and the others are easily grown or purchased. Most of us donât go running to the doctor every time we cut ourselves, come
down with a slight cold, or sometimes even if we are downright sick. There are herbs that are very helpful remedies for most illnesses and you probably have some of them right in your kitchen.
I have an Herbal Medicine Chest that I have made where I keep all of my healing herbs. Of course, I also have shelves of bottled herbs in my âwork roomâ because thatâs my passion. HERBS! Itâs easy to make your own Herbal Medicine Chest. You can customize it to fit your familyâs needs. You can use any type of container, plastic, cardboard, whatever. You can even make your own out of wood and decorate any herbal medicine chest any way you like. Make it your own! Put magickal symbols on it, put pictures of herbs on it, runes, Egyptian symbols, whateverâ¦.Decorate it any way you like.
To store your Herbal Medicine Chest, pick a cool, dry, dark place. I use an office cupboard bought at Office Depot. Keep it out of the bathroom, too much moisture there. Or you could pick a shelf in your linen closet. Whatever works for you. But make sure that you can access it easily. You never know when youâre going to need something out of the Chest.
You donât need a huge assortment of herbsâ¦only the ones that you will use most often. For instance, my family doesnât have a problem with insect bites/stings, so I donât need anything to counteract that. I only keep herbs in my medicine chest that my family will need and so will you.
There are a few basic items that all Herbal Medicine Chestâs need:
Standard ingredients for making your herbal remedies:
1. Oil (extra virgin olive oil, grapeseed oil, or safflower oil) for herbal infusions and salves.
2. Beeswax (a good quality beeswax) for making salves
3. Honey or sugar to sweeten bitter herbs and syrups
4. Vodka or alcohol for tinctures
5. Wine for tonics
6. Petroleum jelly or a good quality skin lotion for making ointments
7. Gelatin capsules for making your own herb capsules.
8. Essential oils
9. Gauze pads
10. Gauze bandages
11. Cotton balls
12. Adhesive tape
13. Tweezers
14. Eye cup
15. Scissors
16. Clean, unbleached, cotton material cut into washcloth-sized squares
The above is just a very basic list of what an Herbal Medicine Chest should have. You, on the other hand, will customize your chest with what your family needs. If you have small children, for example, you might want to keep on hand more of the gauze pads and bandages than other families. If you donât have children, you might want to keep fewer gauze pads and bandages on hand. The above list is very basic and you can add or subtract to fit you.
The above is just the beginning of your Herbal Medicine Chest. You will find that in time, your Herbal Medicine Chest will grow as your Herbal knowledge expands and grows too.

Indian Tantrasara
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Sun Jan 29, 2012 9:48 pm (PST)
She is the one who made the world.
She was the moon when she did that.
I will never forget her.
She is the one who sustains the world.
She is the sun and she does that.
I will never forget her.
She is the one who gives happiness.
She is the cosmos when she does that.
I will never forget her.
She is the one who will destroy the world.
She will be the Goddess when she does that.
I will never forget her.
~Indian Tantrasara
It is not always easy
to live with knowledge of the Goddess. She is the mother of the world,
creator of all that we see and hear and experience. But she is also
mother of death and destruction, the force that will finally end
creation as we know it. She is our life, and our life's ending.
Winter is a time to
remember the importance of cycles in our lives. During summer's glory,
it is easy to forget that the Goddess is not all growth and flourishing. But when all seems frozen and dead, we are confronted with the other
side of her nature. To love the Goddess truly means to accept this side
of her as well. The still air of winter, silent birds and the rustling
of trees, has its own stark beauty. But even when she is not beautiful,
this winter Goddess holds the deepest truths of our existence.

Spells that don't seem to be working....What can we do?
There are times when things don't seem to be working, when the energy isn't shifting and visualization seems to be off key.
What are some things we can do to accomplish spell work when we feel it just won't work right?

Check the components and timing of the spell, do a psychic check of
ourselves to make sure we are in the appropriate frame of mind to do
magical work..... Make sure you are not physically or emotionally sick.
These are all things I have found may interfere with magical workings.
