There's nothing scientific about this journalist's 'sojourn into the dark arts' or indeed esoteric. Clearly he does not have much of an idea of what he's talking about except for the personal experiences he's had. And to lump astrology into magic reminds me of the time I revealed to a colleague that I am a qualified astrologer and she stepped back, her eyes got big and round and she cried, "Ohhhhhh! Can you see auras?" I just had to walk away, shaking my head. The only thing he wrote that made any 'sense' was his closing comment of "Yes, magic in the broadest sense defies all barriers -- except, perhaps, that of common sense." And what made him think that writing a substitute horoscope column off the top of his head is any form of magic? Did he think he was channelling it? If so, he did not say. I do like the painting of the old crone witch though.
Thanks for sending through the article.

Isn't it interesting that just the mention of the word "witch" - doesn't matter in what context - is all that is needed for the reporter to sensationalize it out of the overwhelming brutality and ignorance of the whole thing...
Thanks for sharing this news clip CB
Cheers & BB, Graham.

Subject: [WitchesWorkshop] Teen beaten to death for witchcraft suspicion (UK)
15 year old (African immigrant) killed by his relatives with a variety of tools in a council flat in London.
A clear case of demonic possession if ever there was one.

I actually don't assume strangers and difference means enemy but i don't assume they going to be friends either.. I think you are wrong in saying that on the balance of probabilities people who aren't kin or friend, who aren't known to you, are most likely to end up enemies. I don't know where you live but I live in a city of 4.5 million people and have travelled to and/or lived in LA, New York, London and recently to Beijing, the vast majority of people I came across didn't care anything about what I thought and felt and I didn't have much interest in them in return. The balance of probabilities are that most people you meet going to be disinterestedly neutral about me or you and most people they meet.
For someone to attack you, to become an enemy there is usually a reason. And guess what 80-90% of murders are solved with in 24-48 hours because they are carried out by someone close to the victim, an amazing number are kin (60%) who carry out the murder. It takes passion, attention and interest for someone to want to hurt you, to feel threatened by you. This is the definition of an enemy. So at minimum there are at least three options kin, neutral, enemy and someone being a stranger may well be the safest person you are likely to meet. Even the high school mass murders have mostly killed people they knew well enough to come to hate, and also well enough under non-sick circumstances to be friends with.
Research suggests only 1% of people who are psychopaths/sociopaths, people who can carry out apparently unmotivated violence. Yes, they maybe responsible for 10-15% of murders and attacks and be 25% of people in jail and responsible for 60% of the violence in jails. However you have to be unlucky to meet a member of this 1% of violent sickos. It is interesting that we get suckered by media interest in this 1%. If I asked you to bet on a horse telling you she had a 1/100 chance of winning would you put your money on it? No... yet we run our lives on those odds when it comes to danger. I agree that if that 1/100 chance results in catastrophe then we should take insurance, which means absolutely evaluing the danger in a unknown situation but if you assume danger you are setting up yourself.
This is list about Magic and Paganism, which means talking about how what you think and feel shapes your aura and can effect what happens to you should seem too out there. It has been 29 years since I was physically attacked and all that travelling I've done has been done since that last attack. I was cab driver in Sydney for 6 years without physical attack, for example. I've had people huff and puff and threaten me but I have been able to de-escalate the situation, maintain my integrity and get the outcome I wanted, bring them to a neutral standing at least.
I agree that evoluion programs all living things including us to run instinctively through a series of questions is this order of priority when faced with an unknown situation:
1) is there danger?
2) is there nourishment?
3) will it contribute to reproductive success?
then comes beauty, love and the rest...
but like I said the most likely result is neutral that the answer to every question is no. No to danger, no to nourishment no to sex beauty love and the rest. The mostly likely outcome as I said is neutral disinterest, like the most trees, grass, animals and people.

Well Bill you certainly know how to do condescension which maybe why your world is full of enemies... and my world is full of mostly people who are neutral with a lot of good friends and very few enemies... at 53 I have a fair bit of experience to back my point of view... my reality, my real experience of using magic to create connections with a massive numbers of people in a way that minimizes confict and pain for all. with very few enemies..
