Tiamet,
I am soooo screwed. That link didn't work, however I got so frustrated that I left the lab. I cannot even draw an apple...lol, but for real i can't, yet. I am going to calm down and go back. I was wanting to get into fashion design, and this is a pre-req. Every time I do something the whole "thing" that I have created F#$@s up. I must have missed something early on! I do not know why I am asking...you just seem like a lifeline?
Brightest Blessings,
Gae

Here's the link for Adobe's tutorials http://tv.adobe.com/product/illustrator/?promoid=DINGN
but you can also just type in Adobe Illustrator CS (whatever you have) tutorials in google and there are lots, most are free.

Adobe products are virtually the same, PC or Mac, you just have to remember that the command key on a Mac is the control key on a PC, and the option key on a Mac is the Alt key on a PC. With the pen tool, it's easier to make your starting point and then use the option/alt key to fine tune as you go along. example you want to crop out a leaf from a plant and it has a long curved shape. Make your 1st point and then the 2nd point goes on the leaf where it changes direction or straightens out. Now with your white arrow tool select your 1st point, you will see 2 toggles. Holding down your option/alt key select one of the toggles with the white arrow. you can now adjust the curve until it fits against the leaf. Do this with the other toggles and points until you are happy. Repeat these steps and soon you will have a perfect outline of your leaf or what ever you are working on.

Paradox
"Paradox is a pointer telling you to look beyond it. If paradoxes bother you, that betrays your deep desire for absolutes. The relativist treats a paradox merely as interesting, perhaps amusing or even, dreadful thought, educational."
-Excerpt from God Emperor of Dune by Frank Herbert-

Take a moment to examine this triangle. Go ahead, we'll wait.
Confusing, isn't it? If you follow the edges of the triangle slowly from apex to apex, the construction seems to be rational. When you view it as a whole, however, it is a seemingly impossible object to reconcile visually.
Your mind attempts to translate a series of two-dimensional lines into three-dimensional space. The triangle represents a challenge to your unconscious visual sensory apparatus as well as a confounding problem to your conscious intellect:
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
Well, in the case of the triangle, go ahead and click on it to find out. This is a visual paradox: one of several kinds of impossibilities. Paradoxes in general, however, are a different story.
An unspecified or uncategorized paradox is defined as an apparent contradiction, which exists despite the inclusion of mutually exclusive rules regarding the nature of the subject.
Yikes! That's a bit fuzzy. It's a lot easier to explain with pictures like this:
The platypus is a biological paradox. According to our once hard-and-fast rules regarding animal classification, an animal could only belong to one category, such as a reptile OR a mammal. The platypus appears to be both at the same time. This goofy-looking little fellow challenged the entire zoological world.
That's what paradoxes represent: Challenge. Shaking us out of our routine and forcing us to re-analyze and interpret supposedly unmitigating truths.
When we turn to the possibility of time travel, we discover a paradox gold mine. With the introduction and continued research on Einstein's Theory of Relativity, we find compelling evidence that time is not an immutable force which strings us helplessly along. It may someday be possible to travel to Shakespeare's England, or the country home of your great-great-great-grandchildren. A fabulous possibility, but wait:
We need to learn the rules before we can run off traveling faster than the speed of light. The problem is, there are no definitive rules regarding time travel-only theoretical information. Thus, each challenge that a time travel paradox poses may potentially reveal the answers we seek, or prove to be simply an exercise in contemplating cosmic conundrums.
First, we must consider whether or not time travel is possible within the boundaries of existing scientific knowledge. Generally, theoretical physicists fall into two categories on the subject:
NO! (It's a pair of Docs get it? Doc Martens)
Sorry kids, no can do.
These scientists argue that time functions within specific parameters that forbid the movement through time in any divergent manner. This is often called the "chronology protection" theory, which has had advocates such as the famous Stephen Hawking.
Happily, however, there are those who say:
YES!
These are the folks we're concerned with. Some paradoxes proposed by the theoretical possibility of time travel are presented below, as well as a listing of possible chronological constructs in which they could occur.
All paradoxes are concerned primarily with CAUSALITY, the metaphysical claim that each event is caused by a prior event. Time travel to the past and the future violates causality and creates paradox.
* Perhaps the oldest paradox to be considered is the GRANDFATHER PARADOX. Although a bit morbid, it demonstrates an interesting conundrum. If you had access to a time machine, what would happen if you traveled back in time and (let's hope) accidentally killed Grandpa? What would happen to you? Your parents? Your kids?
* A BILKING PARADOX violates causality all over the place, it is an assertion of free will which transcends the functionality of time travel. It is best explained by example:
A man builds a time machine from plans he received from a mysterious person years before. The man realizes that the stranger was himself, using the time machine to travel back and give the plans to his younger self. A bilking paradox would occur if the man built the machine, tested its reliability, and then refused to give himself the plans.
* Get your minds out of the gutter for SEXUAL PARADOX, a special violation of causality involving procreation. Example: A time traveler returns to his family's village three hundred years in the past. Unwittingly, he falls in love with an ancestor and fathers another.
* A REVERSIBILITY PARADOX concerns the laws of physics as we currently understand them. The equations that govern the physical universe work equally well with time flowing forward or backward. Causality is reinterpreted and can be violated in "back-flowing" time as well, creating a reflective phenomena which eventually compromises the original laws. In our time-set, when we drop a ball, it falls and bounces-gravity functions normally. However, in a back-flowing time frame, the opposite effect would occur, and the laws of gravity would be violated. Now, these effects function differently in different universal constructs. Let's explore a few...
First, we will consider the BLOCK UNIVERSE. The block universe is a theoretical conjecture in which all events from the beginning of time until its end are completely predetermined. The concept of free will is obliterated in this theory, as each decision you make actually ceases to become a decision. If you stand in the middle of the street (kids, don't do it) and try to decide whether to go right or left, whichever conclusion you come to was inescapable. Time is simply a big book in which all our actions are written-and none of us has an eraser.
This universe is more than a little disheartening, as each of our seemingly earth-shattering life decisions become foregone conclusions. However, this is an important model, because it shows remarkable immunity to a paradox of any kind. A time traveler who kills his grandfather or marries an ancestor was fated to do so, and can be accommodated by the inescapable timeline.
Next is the SPLITTING UNIVERSE. In this model, each decision we make not only has an impact, but actually creates a separate timeline independent of the first. You continue in the universe when you turn right, but another is spawned in which you went left.
This universal model creates a mind-boggling number of possible universes in which time travel may occur. However, in each separate reality, the rules of causality remain in tact, creating the possibility of paradox on multi-universal levels.
Finally we have the MUTABLE UNIVERSE, in which time travel would facilitate actual changes within a singular timeline. In this model, time progresses along a singular path, but lacks the predetermination of the Block model. Should a time traveler kill his grandparent, they would be blinked out of existence and the timeline would "repair" itself to reflect the changes in the present.
You can travel to the past, the future, and change whatever you want in a mutable universe. The problem is, when you get "home", things might not be the same as when you left.

astrology anyone...calm it

This caught my attn:
Gae

While I am not a professional astrologer, I have always had a strong interest in astrology, and I continue to learn more of the actual science of astrology every day. However, because of my empathic abilities, that strong interest, coupled with my early on need to understand what made others "feel" the way they did to me, I long ago began to realize that certain personalities, astrological signs, or elements had a certain "feel" to their energy to me. As spirit uses whatever the medium "knows" to pass messages, spirit often uses astrology through my empathic abilities, to pass messages about a person I am reading for, people who may show up in the reading, as well as a way to sometimes date specific events in a person's life I am reading for.

Over my years of reading for others, I have observed a great many similarities among the same astrological signs, such as what types of things calm them as well as motivate them. Being an avid researcher and continuous student, these things combined with answers and information received from my own guides both for others, and myself, have only strengthened my understanding of the blueprints to personalities, life, and challenges contained within astrology.

For those who are students of astrology, these things may seem simple common sense, however, for those who are not, perhaps these suggestions may help you in finding ways to naturally calm yourself.

What Speaks to a Sun Sign?

The four elements are divided into water, air, earth, and fire. Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio are the three water signs. Libra, Gemini, and Aquarius belong in the air category. Virgo, Taurus, and Capricorn represent the earth element. Finally, Aries, Sagittarius, and Leo share the fire element.

Quite simply what naturally calms each astrological sign, and can very easily be used to enter a natural state of meditation, are within the elements of each sign. Different things in relation to each element seem to appeal more to different individuals, depending on other aspects of their astrological chart, however, I have found that most always, when one finds something that immediately calms them, it is in line with the element associated with their sun sign.

I have certainly observed other things that an individual also may draw themselves to for calming in addition to those things associated with their sun sign element. I have found those additional things outside the natural element of the sun sign to usually match the moon sign. However, there are exception in the observations within all elements or signs, that I am sure might make more sense to someone who is more experienced in the actual science of astrology.

These are not facts, but observations, and a few suggestions in relation to each sign. You may find some from your sun sign element or even your moon sign element that help you to naturally calm yourself, and/or motivate you from the still spot of natural meditation.

Water Signs
(Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer)

Hearing, seeing, and/or feeling running water

Being near natural running water (ocean, creek, mountain stream) is the ultimate for water signs. Taking it in with all the senses helps dramatically, and in my opinion is the best, when possible.

When actual nature is not available to you in the moment, running water from a faucet over pulse points, (such as the wrists) works nicely for many.

Nice baths and showers work wonders. A Jacuzzi or hot tub works well, too.

When running water is not available, rubbing lotion on pulse points, such as the wrists, and neck area under the ears, brings some relief, as it feels wet, which is refreshing to a water sign.

Listening to natural sounds of water with or without a relaxing music backdrop through natural sounds mp3 downloads, CD's, etc.

Believe it or not, watching fish swim in a fish aquarium, brings a calming to many who were born under water signs.

Earth Signs
(Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn)
Now – For earth signs, one might think that it is mostly things associated with the physical earth that would most help those who are earth signs, and although there are some, the things I have observed that help earth signs the most, and put them in their meditative spot or creative plane, are associated with the material plane.

Shopping and spending money seem to help many earth signs relieve stress and/or calm themselves.

Creating artwork or anything else that is visually appealing.

Rearranging furniture or decorations, pictures, etc, in their personal environment, or decorating in some way

Nature walks or hikes.

Listening to the sounds of nature especially with music, or even music alone.

Working with wood in some way. (or even furniture, such as with antiques, restoring or collecting)

Fire Signs
(Leo, Sagittarius, Aries)

Staring into (or feeling the warmth of) and open flame, such as a burning candle, bonfire, fire in a fireplace, or fire bowl, etc. seems to be of a great benefit to many fire signs.

Being in direct sunlight, or solitary outside activities where direct sunlight is felt offers a refresher for many fire signs.

Exercising, in many different forms helps many fire signs to calm themselves, perhaps because it puts the body in a more heated state.

One means for fire signs, that honestly has seemed out of place to me that I have observed over and over, is digging in the earth, meaning activities such as planting, gardening, etc seems to help fire signs, especially Leos.

And though some of you fire signs may not like me saying so, another one that rejuvenates and calms a fire sign that doesn't exactly fit the "fire" is naps rejuvenate these folks, more so than other elements in my observations.

Air Signs
(Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Being out in the open air. (Especially around water for those born under the sign of Aquarius, though that may or may not be true for the sister signs)

Opening all the windows in the house and letting the fresh air in, or riding in a car with the windows down.

Any solitary activity outdoors in nature with the fresh air and sounds of nature.

Listening to nature sounds through mp3s, CDs, etc., especially birds, although, again, aquarians may like the sounds of water, too.

Going and seeing attractions or things associated with history, especially one with an intellectual element often seem to bring feelings of rejuvenation or motivation to air signs.

Bird watching

Certainly for all creative individual types, no matter what the astrological sign, according to what their creative leaning is, writing, singing, playing a musical instrument, dancing, drawing, painting, etc., these things always take one to that still spot within that brings both calming and rejuvenation of spirit.

This is old hack for most, but maybe....heeheehee!
Gae

This is a technique one of my gods told me to learn. it has the benefits of teaching control over the flow of energy in general via controlling your own aura. This technique can be used for many things but also has the added benefit of increasing one's concentration. Don't over extend yourself, take your time and increase the length of practice gradually. you don't want to cause any health problems by going too fast.Extending the Aura
Whenever you do any rituals, spells, etc. always center & ground first.
Visualize your aura as a sphere, egg, or other shape that feels right to you. If you’re doing this with a partner both of you need to center, ground, & visualize the same thing at this point. I am going to describe how to do this with a partner but the technique is the same regardless.
1. First, choose who’ll go first as the extender. The extender ‘sees’ their aura slowly (until you both get used to doing this) reach out & surround the other’s aura. If one or both of you can sense energy then you’ll also feel this happening. You must stay centered & grounded. Once you’re extended around your partner hold as long as you can concentrate for. When you retract your aura start out slowly at first or you could have a spring-back which in & of itself could cause you pain. As time goes on and you learn to control your aura you can pull it back faster but still be careful at all times.
2. After both of you have been able to hold you extended auras for at least 15-30 minutes then you can move on to having your partner push his aura against yours while you’re extended around them. Start this out slowly because if you try to push against each other’s auras too much too soon you could cause yourselves to have a headache or even become burnt-out energetically which can cause many problems. So always, start slow and light when learning to do things that involve any kind of energy. Take your time and don’t rush. You have to learn to do this & you don’t want to hurt yourself or your partner. As your partner pushes against your aura, try to keep your aura around theirs for as long as possible.
3. Another variation after having learned the first two is for both of you to extend your auras out at the same time and try to envelop each other while pushing at your partner’s aura. Whoever succeeds in enveloping the other first is the winner.
You can come up with you own versions but always remember that when you extend your aura around another person, only do so with their permission. Version 3 above is a sort of game I just came up with, I’m sure there are many others that’ll help you to learn this technique. This will help you to learn better concentration & to better access your true power. I will try to answer any questions you have about extending auras in email, jadaja.talios@gmail.com. I admit that I can learn new ways of extending your aura & I’m by no means an expert at it. It does work and you do need to practice it as often as you can. You can practice this with objects and other living things; animals, plants, crystals, etc.
Go with the Lady’s blessings.

Everyone and yours, have a happy Mabon!!!
Realize that the Sun is waning and the time for magick is amidst all of us. Realize the equality of everything...yin and yang. Light begots darkness and darkness begots light (in equal amounts). Realize what you have and not what you have not for there is a Goddess and a God, they work together. Just imagine, if we did the same, how far we could go!...not only as a person, but as a whole universe!...The key!
May Not a Person(no matter) ever Hunger,
and May Not a Person (or kitty) ever Thirst,

I'm going to ask these question(s) again...

I realized that I probably should have sent them one at a time. It can be confusing, trying to answer a posting which has SEVERAL question in it!

So... question #1

There is an old divination technique which I love ... the reading of signs in nature - the sky, the patterns of birds in the sky, the behavior of animals...

How can one sharpen their ability to divine -- through the reading of nature? What is the history of this technique?

I'm looking for intelligent opinions on the subject... any suggestions would be gratefully received (listened to/read).

Blessed Be,

Merletta Rut

MM Merlette,

Any type of divination is enhanced by being in better contact with one's
intuition/subconscious. Regular meditation is probably the most common
method of achieving this.

While there are various articles around on the meaning of birds, for
example, like what kind you see, or where, or how they're flying, or how
many of them there are, the theories of how to interpret them are either
culturally based (as in India, for example) or simply more modern
interpretations made up by someone and thus no more or less valid than what
you'd make up, yourself. When I want to use nature, I ask for the gods to
give me signs in an 'agreed' language based on my own culture, times, and
associations. For example, I 'stipulate' a meaning that if a crow flies
away to the left it's a 'no' and to the right is a 'yes' to my question. Or
if I see a group it means social interaction and input but one alone means
it's up to me to solve the problem on my own. Things like that... then wait
to see what appears.

BB,
Miki

I used to have a very smart parrot who was trained to get on my hand by saying "Step Up". At the time I had "Emmy" I also had four parakeets. Once the 'keets all got loose and were flying willy-nilly around the house and I was running around trying to catch them. Emmy sat there and screamed STEP UP STEP UP! at them! I think she was more frustrated than i was!
Dg

Maybe not magick related, but Emmy was kind of a magickal friend :) She passed away at an early age and came to me in a vision and told me she died of a heart attack :(
