RUNIC JOURNEY, Sept 23, 29, & Oct 8, Butler NJ

A New Workshop SERIES Featuring Anthropologist & Intuitive Counselor JANICE COBB!

* Only $20.00 per class with advance payment of entire series.  Note:  classes may be taken independently but to fully understand Runes, participation in the entire series is strongly advised.

Journey with Anthropologist & Intuitive Counselor, Janice Cobb, into the mysterious world of Runes!

In Class I of this 3-part series, learn the real history & origins of the Runes and their true meaning.  Learn about the first 'Aett' (family) of Runes, concerning 'creation'.  Each participant will be asked to create their own journal for purposes of personal reflection during these collective journeys.
In Class 2, learn about the second 'Aett' (family) of Runes, concerning the external forces that may disrupt homeostasis, or the ability to maintain equilibrium within.

In Class 3, learn about the third 'Aett' (family) of Runes, concerning the link to the Divine!

"...much more than a curious alternative to Tarot cards for telling fortunes."

"Today, runes have been rediscovered as a symbolic system and have gained immense popularity as a means of divination. They are, however, much more than a curious alternative to Tarot cards for telling fortunes. They provide a key to understanding the lives and beliefs of the ancient people who created them, and have much to teach us about a way of life that was perhaps more intimately connected to the natural world, and to the realm of spirit, than our own. "

Janice is an intuitive counselor.  A New Jersey certified Teacher of the Social Studies for over twenty years, Janice also  holds an MA in anthropology, with a concentration in molecular studies, and a US Patent for a non-destructive means through which Ancient DNA can be recovered from dental remains. She is also an adjunct professor; teaching anthropology, anatomy and physiology, sociology and psychology for three community colleges and one university. For Janice, teaching is reaching, and Rune readings, the ultimate distillation of the common Divine link in these processes.

Thanks for reading, folks.  Stay dry!

DailyOM - We’re All in the Same Boat
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

Different Ways of Navigating
We’re All in the Same Boat
We are all on this earth together learning and teaching together in many different ways.

We're all in the same boat. We just have different paddles, and perhaps we find ourselves on different rivers. We all live in human bodies. These are the vehicles in which we move through our world. We are all made of flesh, blood, and bone, with brains, hearts, and lungs to power us. Our paddlesâ€"the tools we use to move through the worldâ€"vary, as do the bodies of waterâ€"the environmentsâ€"in which we find ourselves.

Some of us use our high IQs to get where we want to go. Some of use our smiles, others use kindness, a gift with language, or athletic ability. Some of these qualities we were born with and others are skills we have learned. Considering this metaphor in light of your own life can be very enlightening. What tools are you using to get from point A to point B in your life? Chances are, you and the people you know have used many different tools in various combinations throughout your lives to get where you needed to go. Just as with oars or paddles, a balanced approach is best. If you rely too much on one thing, like beauty, to open doors, you fail to be well-rounded and you may eventually lose your equilibrium. And if you lose that one quality, you have no paddle at all. This is inspiration to develop multiple tools to navigate your world.

Some of us may be moving along paths that are like rushing rivers; others may be on a large, still lake. We have all felt, at one time or another, tossed about on a stormy ocean. Through all this, we are never really alone, even though it might seem that way. There is inspiration all around us in the form of other people making their way through the world, in the very same boat. Remember to look around you for role models, companionship, and encouragement.

My Magical Day

Posted by: "Holly Stokes" holly@ravenoriginals.com   hollyberrysheart

Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:38 pm (PDT)

I love, love, love living a magical life.. I really do.. it brightens my
days and brightens the light inside me as well. That being said.. I have to
tell you about my commute home from work this afternoon. Here we go:
Warning.. mushy content to follow.

Well, earlier today I was blogging about work ethics and about doing the
best you can do and then taking it a step further . all the while that I was
writing about this I was thinking about my husband because he is that way as
well. He just cannot make himself do something half way. He always has to go
a step beyond what one might think you should do so that he does it better
than what was done before.

Well.. the thoughts of my darling husband lingered through my mind all the
way home. Every time I think of him, I can't help but smile. It's one of
those smiles that starts right in the center of your being and just jumps
right out onto your face as though it cannot be contained! So, I'm driving
home and thinking about him and smiling all the while and I thought to
myself, "thoughts of my hubby are just fluttering through my mind like a
butterfly upon a breeze" I know, I know.. I'm sappy that way.

Just a few minutes into my drive and "Our Song" comes on the radio. ok so
you know I had to chuckle a bit to myself as a grin covered my entire face.
I reach over and turn up the radio and at that moment I am in a que to merge
onto another section of the interstate and as I sat there singing along to
"our song" I look over at the traffic and in the median bounces a butterfly
right past my car.. LOL! Finally I make it up to the merge and as traffic
from the other lanes are mingling a truck moves over in front of me with the
license plate of 777LVV. I think to myself.. "OMG, can this get much
better!" You see we were married on 7/7/07 . I continue singing and making
my way home.

The song is over and I can't get much happier. I'm on my way home, I have a
wonderful husband and life is pretty good today. As these thoughts fill my
mind, it's time to merge again and you won't believe this but now I am
behind another car with one of those angelic numbered license plates. This
time it's 444, which means the angels are surrounding you and with you. You
can imagine, I am all grins!

My commute is about an hours drive and now I am getting really close to
home. Again, I am qed up to merge onto the last bit of highway just before
hitting the back streets to home. I'm sitting there at a mere crawl inching
my way forward, the windows are down, the radio is on and a cool breeze
comes into my window. I breathe a heavy sigh and think to myself," What a
beautiful day" just then a car slowly passes by and yep you guessed it
another plate with angelic numbers. This time it's 111, which means
opportunity and new doorways opening up.

Just seconds after seeing the 111, this thought rolled into my head, "I
just need to let go of thinking about the things I don't have and
concentrate on what I do have in my life". Just as that thought finished, I
look over and there is yet another car with 444 on the license plate! I'm
thinking.. no one will ever believe this! This was the universe confirming
my path or at least that's how I like to believe.

Just amazing! Funny how life works. Those things that can't be explained.
Some call them coincidences . I call it magic!

Love life and watch it love you back!

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

Fall Equinox Spell

Fall Equinox Spell
Incense of the day: Coriander

Once again the Sun’s
path crosses the celestial equator, and the day and the night are now
again of equal length. On the Gregorian calendar this is the first day
of autumn, but on the modern Celtic calendar it is midautumn. This
holiday is more commonly known by its Welsh name Mabon. Mabon means
“divine youth.” It is the name of a mythic hunter hero whose story is
told at this time of year. At the beginning of time, Mabon was born to
the mother goddess Modron. That we only know his mother and not his
father attests to the matriarchal lineage of the early Celts. The
equinox marks the time when Mabon was three nights old and stolen from
his crib. For the next three months, the heroes Cai and Bedwyr will
search for him and ask all manner of birds and beasts for help. But,
according to legend, it is only the salmon who can give them direction.
On Yule, the heroes retrieve the divine child by freeing him from a
prison in Gloucester. Like Apollo, Mabon is a hunter with a bow and a
musician with a harp. He is a Sun god. Mabon represents the Sun that is
waning in strength during this quarter of the year and that will begin
to return only after the solstice. The waning of the light is
frightening and depressing, and it is necessary for our own sake to use
magic at this time to help in the quest for Mabon. The strongest act of
magic that one can do at this time is to participate in the celebrations of the yearly cycle. As one integrates the yearly cycle deep into one’s unconscious, serenity and confidence are gained. This is the peace that comes from knowing and accepting that the light will return when it is
time.

Inanna

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:00 pm (PDT)

Inanna

Before she descended, she put on all her ornaments
of power, the seven symbols of her queenship:
she put on her head the desert crown, put tiny lapis beads
around her neck and longer lapis beads, dark and sleek,
fell to her breast where two perfect oval jewels made
a bewitching breastplate; she took in her hand
the measuring rod and the measuring line,
and put on her wrist the golden ring.
Shadowing her eyes with seductive kohl, drawing
over her shoulders the robe of heaven, the Goddess Inanna
began her journey. Thus did the great Goddess of heaven
begin her journey, her descent into hell.
~Sumerian Poem

One of the great mythic patterns, found in many cultures and eras, is of the Goddess descending
into an underworld region of death and pain, only to re-emerge again, having conquered death.
This is the pattern of the myth of Inanna, the Sumerian Goddess who descended into the dark
realm of her sister, the Death Goddess Erishkigel.

Before she departed, Inanna dressed herself in the rich raiment appropriate to her status as
queen of heaven. But, as she descended into the underworld, she was forced to give up - one by one -
the jewels and ornaments she wore. When she finally faced her dark sister, she stood naked, with no
symbols of rulership and wealth. Only after she is stripped naked, dies, and is hung on a meat hook
in the realm of death is Inanna able to be reborn again.

So it is for all of us. Our comfort, our status, our good job or fine marriage - all of these may be stripped
away as we undergo the transformations life demands of us. But, when we seem to have nothing left, we
are renewed. This is the hope hidden within the apparent darkness of transformation.

Mabon September 20-23

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:16 pm (PDT)

Mabon
September 20-23

It is the Autumn Equinox, known also as Mabon and Harvest Home.  This is the second harvest festival.  A time of rejoicing and thanksgiving, a time of the Earth when again night and dar are in equal balance.  In ancient times, people took a respite from their labors in the orchards and fields at this sabbat giving thanks for the Earth's bounty with feasts and offerings of wine and apples.

At Mabon, the Wheel turns toward endings, and the light wanes more noticeably each day.  Larders are stocked, blankets are aired and mended, and the last of summer's riches are canned, perserved, and stored against winter's chill.  Now is a time for rest, reflection, and for completing anything left undone in the warm season's wake.  Symbols of mabon include grapevines, gourds, corncopias, and the bright scattered leaves of autumn trees.

Celebrate this Sabbat with the reds, gold, rusts, and browns of the Earth, and thin yellow candles to ward off the coming dark.  Break out the good china, the finest silver, and the creamiest linens, and prepare a hearty feast for friends and loved ones, made with the freshest offerings from autumn's table.

Host or attend a wine tasting party in honor of Dionysus, roman god of Wine, who is traditionally celebrated at the Autumn Equinox.  Harvest the last of the vegetables and herbs from your garden, and gather and bless the seeds fror next spring.  Make apple butter, berry jam, and fresh pressed cider; have a hayride or host a barn dance to bid the summer farewell.

Harvest gourds and dry them to make ritual rattles.  Paint them with magical symbols, then fill them with sand, pebbles, or dried corn and decorate the ends with strips of leather or suede strung with feathers, shells, and colorful beads.

Spend some time meditating on all you have accomplished in the past months, and write out a list of all you have to be thankful for.  Gratitude is powerful medicine and keep the list here you can refer to it, if ever you begin to feel a bit "grinchy" during the coming winter.

Mabon Sept. 22-23 Second Harvest

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Thu Sep 22, 2011 9:20 pm (PDT)

Mabon Sept. 22-23
Second Harvest

As the summer draws to a close, we are once again brought to the time of Mabon. The second harvest ritual of the year, Mabon is also the Autumnal equinox, and one of the times of the year when day equals night. In times of old the farmers would harvest by moonlight to avoid the insufferable heat of the day, hence the phrase "harvest moon". This is also around the time of year when livestock was slaughtered so meats were plentiful. Of course the colors of this sabbat are in correspondence with nature, warm colors, gold tones, rich warm reds, yellows and oranges.

This ritual is one in which we will give thanks to the Gods for the bountiful harvest of this year, but also evaluate the year that has past and decide what you will "harvest" and keep with you, and what it is best to give back to the earth. It is a time to seek out that balance and mirror nature, work towards an equilibrium in your life, shed those things that are weighing you down. In a Mabon ritual you may expect to find homage to a dying God who knows his time with us will soon draw to a temporary close, dying at Samhain to be reborn of the Goddess at Yule. You may also see depictions of the Goddess becoming her crone aspect and leaving the earth for the winter such as enactments of the Goddess Persephone going down to spend the next few months in the underworld. Themes that dominate and those of storing and preparing for the winter and lean times, reflection and then relaxation and preparations to enjoy another winter by the hearth. Mabon is also a
time for feasting, friends and family, a time of abundance and plenty. And, of course we must keep in mind the aspects of festival and celebration of nature, and remember to be free and love the earth and all that surrounds us.

Mabon herbs: Acorn/Oak Benzoin, Fern, Grains, Honeysuckle, Marigold, Milkweed, Myrrh, Passionflower, Rose, Sage, Solomon's Seal, Thistle, Vegetables

Mabon colors: Gold, rich, red, yellow, orange

Mabon offerings: Grains, meats, fruits of the harvest

Mabon is a time to honor Apollo, Demeter/Ceres, Dionysus/Bacchus, Hathor, Thor, Gabriel, Gaia/Tellus.

What's New

This is the cover for Raven Grimassi's new book, which just arrived on Friday!  Come in early to pick up your copy, then return on October 9th to get it signed.  See below for more information.

It's the first book to thoroughly rethink the official history of European witchcraft, dispelling centuries of misinformation.  In it, Raven examines the historic forms of European practices and beliefs, focusing on etymoloty and pre-Christian literary themes.  He traces the false construction of witchcraft through the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods to uncover an enchanted world of witches who interact with spirits, healed the sick with plant medicine, and made magic in their daily lives.  Readers will find that the Old Ways have returned for use by modern practitioners.

We are hosting a meet-and-greet at 3.30pm on October 9, after the workshop, at which time Raven will also give a short talk on the book.  If you purchase a copy (retail $19.95), Raven will sign it and you will also receive a poster made especially for this book.  You must be present during the meet-and-greet in order to receive the poster, and you can pre-pay for the book so you're assured you'll have a copy waiting for you.

2012 Calendars have arrived!
Witches', Dragons, Woodland Faeries, Magical and Herbal Almanacs, Datebooks, and Astrologicals have all arrived!  If there's something specific you're interested in, please let me know and I'll be happy to order it for you.

New Greenmen and Greenwomen!
Such a great response to the ones I brought in, so I was thrilled when my supplier came out with new faces.  Pictured above, from left to right:
Celtic Greenman Face Plaque  $20.00
Primavera Greenwoman Box  $25.00
Flora Greenwoman Plaque  $20.00
Star Greenman Box  $25.00
These are just a sampling of the new pieces, and you really need to see them for yourself to appreciate their true beauty.

Are you looking for a small space to rent for a class you want to teach, or a healing session you wish to conduct?  We have a great space right in the store!  Seating for up to 15 people, we have tables, chairs, a DVD player, and a comfortable area for you.  Contact us to discuss your needs!

If you've been in to shop recently, and spent at least $50, then you probably received a new SoulJourney shopping bag.  They are also available for purchase for $5.  Bring it in with you next time and receive 10% off your purchase of $25 or more (gift certificates, classes/workshops, readings, and consignment items excluded) as our thank you for helping to save the environment.

Protection seems to be a big thing lately, judging from the amount of questions I'm getting on the subject.  Here are a couple of simple and short incantations, with thanks to Ashleen O'Gaea:

"No weird people on the bus
Will give me any trouble
For as I power my aura up
I'll have protection double."
(Change the word "bus" to car, motorcycle, or whatever mode of transportation you employ.)

"I walk in a space that's just for me
Within a shield no one can see.
My boundary's safe, I've room to move
And no one comes in unless I approve."
