Today's Card – Six of Water – Pleasure

This card is all about emotion, showing us bowls of water flowing into
one another. This tells us when we allow life to flow through us, we are
able to gain balance. It is when we try to hold on to emotions that
things get all out of whack.

Allow yourself to enjoy life on all levels. Let go of mental and
emotional tensions that may be holding you back. So much more is
possible when you are happy. Bad feelings get us down and make even the
smallest of tasks more complicated then they need to be.

When you can let go.. and allow yourself to relax, your life force
regains its equilibrium and things come into your life in a more calm,
nourishing way.

Remember to honor and treat yourself well and in doing so you will treat
others likewise.

Many Blessings on your journey,
Raventalker

My Inner Child Wants to Play

Posted by: "holly@ravenoriginals.com" holly@ravenoriginals.com   hollyberrysheart

Tue Oct 4, 2011 1:13 pm (PDT)

Candy and Caramel coated apples on a stick
The year is passing us by really quick

The trees begin to change into their fall attire
Families gather around a warm, glowing fire

Roasting and toasting as the year nears it's end
You can feel a chill in the air from the cool Autumn wind

Trick or Treat, candy sweets and costumes too
Scary monsters roam the streets with ghastly ghost shouting BOO!

Pumpkins carved and lit to light the way
Scarecrows placed to rush the birds away

Shorter the days and longer the nights
Movies are playing to cause us a fright!

There's a great big pile of leaves to jump in and play!
I think I'll release my inner child today!

Tossing leaves of red, yellow, brown and gold high into the air
I don't even care if they land in my hair!

For I am a child at heart and I like to live that way
Where all my dreams may come true.....
and my worries stop at how much longer I get to stay out and play.

Yeah, I think I'll release my inner child today!

Many Blessings,
Raventalker

Hello all-
Here are some reminders:
Craft
Workshops
Each month we will
offer a different craft workshop.
It
includes all supplies.
October
Sunday,
October 9th
4 pm -
6 pm
$40.00
per person
Skull
Garland
It is the
time of year when the earth has died and gone dormant. Every year on October 31
(or May 1, if you're in the Southern Hemisphere) the Sabbat we call Samhain
presents us with the opportunity to once more celebrate the cycle of death and
rebirth. For many Pagan and Wiccan traditions, Samhain is a time to reconnect
with our ancestors, and honor those who have died. This is the time when the
veil between our world and the spirit realm is thin, so it's the perfect time of
year to make contact with the dead.
The skull
appears regularly in symbols around Samhain-- after
all, this is the time when the earth is dying, plus everyone is focusing on
Halloween. The Samhain sabbat celebrates the cycle of rebirth, and acknowledges
that with life, there must also be death. This skull garland, inspired by the
candy skulls of Mexico's Day
of the Deadcelebration, is a simple craft project you can make with scrap material around
your house.
Ancestor
Collage
In many
Pagan and Wiccan traditions, the ancestors are honored, especially at
Samhain. This
Sabbat, after all, is the night when the veil between our world and the spirit
world is at its most fragile. By setting up an ancestor shrine or collage to
honor the people of your bloodline -- your kinfolk and clansmen who have helped
to shape the person you are. This altar or shrine can be set up just for the
Samhain season, or you can leave it up all year long for meditation and
rituals.
You can
create the collage and leave it in a corner of your dresser top, on a shelf, or
on the mantle over your fireplace. Regardless, put it in a place where it can be
left undisturbed, so that the spirits of your ancestors may gather there, and
you can take time to meditate and honor them without having to move stuff around
every time someone needs to use the table.
Also, bear
in mind that you can honor anyone you like in this shrine. If you have a
deceased pet or friend, go ahead and include them. Someone doesn't have to be a
blood relative to be part of our spiritual ancestry.Mediumship
Demonstration
Facilitated by Susan
Bischak
Friday, October 7th
&
Friday, November
11th
Time: 8:00 pm to 10:00
pm
$35.00 per person
Space is
limited---Please call to reserve seating
Spend an evening
exploring "the other side" with medium Susan Bischak. She will demonstrate
platform mediumship (mediumship for a group of people). Susan's focus is on
communicating with spirits that want to bring messages to you. As receiver and
interpreter of the messages, Susan does her best to give you information you can
be sure is from someone you know that has passed over. This form of mediumship
is Evidential Mediumship. These messages are very healing , personal, emotional,
humorous, and joyful. Come and get "evidence" that there is life beyond this
life, and love beyond this life.
Susan has been studying
metaphysical topics since 1980. She learned mediumship from an American
Spiritualist. She has taught mediumship for 10 years and attended workshops by
instructors from the famed Arthur Findlay College in England. She does
mediumship for groups as well as private sittings combined with artwork (called
Spirit Art). Susan is certified as a reiki master, IET master instructor, IGM
acupressure adept, advanced biosyntonie practitioner, biofeedback facilitator,
nutritionist, past-life regressionist, and thermographer. Susan is an ordained
interfaith minister. For more information about Susan visit, www.naturalharmonyinfo.com

Learning Reiki is a serious commitment.
It is a healing art taught in stages or degrees, that are accompanied by attunements. Each attunement brings about new cleansings and helps us to deal with our Karma. Reiki will help you to love yourself & know yourself on a deeper level.

Reiki differs from other laying on of hands healing because of its use of physical positions to apply the energy over and through the Chakra system. Also, it is different due to the fact that the healer is required to be opened and attuned by the degree process. The opening or attunement process works from the top or Crown chakra downward. The Reiki energy flows in this manner throughout each healing as well.

Reiki is one of the most effective methods we currently have for transferring the energy. Reiki uses life force energy to heal the body, mind and spirit. Sometimes negative energy is caught in the person's etheric body, or the person has a block. In instances like this you can combine your Reiki with crystals and remove the block or negative energy and perform Psychic Surgery on the etheric body or Aura.

What's New

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!  If you've already purchased a copy of Old World Witchcraft, please bring it back to receive a corrected chart to replace one that was incorrectly printed in the book!

Old World Witchcraft is the first book to thoroughly rethink the official history of European witchcraft, dispelling centuries of misinformation.  In it, Raven examines the historic forms of European practices and beliefs, focusing on etymoloty and pre-Christian literary themes.  He traces the false construction of witchcraft through the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods to uncover an enchanted world of witches who interact with spirits, healed the sick with plant medicine, and made magic in their daily lives.  Readers will find that the Old Ways have returned for use by modern practitioners.

We are hosting a meet-and-greet at 3.30pm on October 9, after the workshop, at which time Raven will also give a short talk on the book.  If you purchase a copy (retail $19.95), Raven will sign it and you will also receive a poster made especially for this book.  You must be present during the meet-and-greet in order to receive the poster, and you can pre-pay for the book so you're assured you'll have a copy waiting for you.

2012 Calendars have arrived!
Witches', Dragons, Woodland Faeries, Magical and Herbal Almanacs, Datebooks, and Astrologicals have all arrived!  If there's something specific you're interested in, please let me know and I'll be happy to order it for you.

Are you looking for a small space to rent for a class you want to teach, or a healing session you wish to conduct?  We have a great space right in the store!  Seating for up to 15 people, we have tables, chairs, a DVD player, and a comfortable area for you.  Contact us to discuss your needs!

If you've been in to shop recently, and spent at least $50, then you probably received a new SoulJourney shopping bag.  They are also available for purchase for $5.  Bring it in with you next time and receive 10% off your purchase of $25 or more (gift certificates, classes/workshops, readings, and consignment items excluded) as our thank you for helping to save the environment.

Factoids
Bullet-proof vests, fire escapes, windshield wipers, and laser printers were all invented by women.

The only food that won't spoil is honey.

A fly that eats only sugar will never lay eggs.

The white shark never gets sick.  Mysterious antibodies make it immune to all known bacteria.

For centuries, people have been planting by the Moon's phases in the belief that something in the lunar gravity or light affects the way the plants grow.

The moon planting rule says to plant crops that produce abvoe-ground during the increase of the Moon (from New to Full), and to plant crops that produce below the ground during the decrease (from Full to New).

Sage Plant
The sage plant is a bush with stems in large numbers and pink, blue, or violet-whitish flowers, grouped in spikes, separated up to ten flowers each.  It is found in rocky and dry sites.

There are 900 species of sage.  It is a member of the mint family and is found on many continents.  Business was believed to flourish where sage thrived.

The ancients associated sage with immortality and thought it increased mental capacity.  It was held sacred by Romans as a healing plant.  They believed it could create life, and that by eating sage one would be immortal.

American Indians used it for medicinal purposes.  They claimed it cured skin sores.  it was also used as an infusion for baths and to color the hair silver.

Sage has been found to be very effective to reduce many physical emissions like sweating and is an excellent remedy for sore throats, poor digestion, and irregular periods.  It has a slightly warm, bitter and astrigent taste.

It attracts bees and grows well with rosemary.  It is used for insect repellant and fragrance in potpourris.  It was believed sage grew vigorously in gardens where the household was ruled by a woman.

Paganism / Wiccan Basics Celebrations Pagan Living

From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wiccan
This week, we've got all kinds of interesting stuff in the news. A California couple is fined for in-home Bible study, but is this a case of religious freedom, or just zoning regulations gone wrong? A school board leader gets in hot water over religious remarks, a city councilman donates public money to a "Praise Fest", and James Arthur Ray says he's done with running sweat lodges - good thing, since three people died in his last one. On a much lighter note, I had a blast interviewing the author and illustrator of a delightful Pagan kids' book. Have a magical week, and watch for a special newsletter on Friday, when we'll talk about Pagan networking!

Couple Fined for Home Bible Study

This is an interesting First Amendment case out of California. A San Juan Capistrano couple has been fined a lot of money by the city, which says they're in violation of zoning ordinances that prohibit "religious, fraternal or non-profit" organizations in residential neighborhoods without a permit. The couple, Chuck and Stephanie Fromm, are Christians. Stephanie hosts a Wednesday Bible study group which typically has about twenty participants, and Chuck holds a Sunday service that gets about 50 guests. They have been fined $300 dollars already, and could face another ... Read Full Article

BOE President Gets Complaints about Religious Emails

In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, Board of Education president Michael Delesdernier has received complaints for statements he made referencing God and biblical stories during mandatory teacher meetings. He also wrote that in emails that he would pray for teachers. The Freedom From Religion Foundation, a Wisconsin-based group that advocates separating government and faith, has sent a letter saying, "It is grossly inappropriate to reference religion during required faculty meetings ... This practice forces employees, who may be of varying religions or have none at all, to endure governmental endorsement of ... Read Full Article

$10k in City Money Goes to "Praise Fest"

San Diego City Council President Tony Young allocated $10,000 in taxpayer money last week to help fund a "praise fest", and the move is raising some questions. In 2010, Young gave the event $6,000, and it caught the attention of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which asked him not to do so again. However, that didn't stop Young from providing the same grant this year. The state of California's Constitution contains a "No Aid Clause", which prohibits state and local governments from "directly supporting or endorsing religion." Young, however, says this isn't ... Today's Goddess:  Rainbow Snake Carnival of Flowers (Australia)

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Tue Oct 4, 2011 8:53 pm (PDT)

Today's Goddess:  Rainbow Snake
Carnival of Flowers (Australia)

Themes:  Beauty; Life; Joy; Fertility; Tradition; Children; Health
Symbols:  Flowers; Rainbows; Rainwater; Pearls

About the Rainbow Snake:  This Aborigine Goddess, also sometimes called Julunggul,
represents the fertile rains and the waters in the seas.  According to
tradition, she flows into people's lives, bringing children, joy, the
knowledge of magical healing arts, and protection for sacred traditions.

To Do Today:  The city of Queensland, Australia, blossoms around this time of year in a
colorful array of flowers.  This carnival honors the joy of living,
something the Rainbow Snake embodies.  If you have floral prints,
definitely wear them today to inspire the Rainbow Snake's ability to
flow and adapt, using beauty and happiness as a powerful coping
mechanism.

If it rains today it is a sign of this goddess's blessing.  Release your inner child and dance
in the downpour.  Jump in puddles and let her fertile, productive energy splash freely all over your life and everything around you.

To internalize a little of the Rainbow Snake's attributes, collect rainwater in a clean pan on
or around this date, then steep some edible flower petals (like roses)
in the water.  Drink or cook with this today so her power can blossom in your heart.  )0(

What's Happening Today:

Thesmophoria, Ancient Greece -  Women's festival of Demeter. First day: The Stenia.  On first day, women gathered in the temple area. On second day there was fasting, and they would return home for the night. The cult was practiced universally in the Greek world, from the Black Sea to Lesbos, but the secrets of the rites were so well kept that even today we know virtually nothing of what the women did. The rites included married women, this being their only opportunity all year to  get away from their husbands and families. Grain was burnt as an offering to Demeter. Piglets, sheep and goats were sacrificed. After the Thesmophoria ended, the priests would gather up the large numbers of female figurines that had been used in the rituals, and bury them.

MANIA - On the second day of Mania, the Mundus, the passage to the underworld, was believed to be open, allowing the passage of spirits up into ourmiddle world, and the journeys of shamans down into the underworld and back. It is a festival when departed ancestors are remembered.

Fiesta de Aqua -In Peru, the first Sunday of October is the day when the gates of the river Carhuayumac are opened. In the weeks before the festival, the irrigation ditches are cleaned out and restored. On the day of the festival, a procession of horsemen approaches the Cave near the river gate where the Water God, Pariapunko resides. The Mayor enteres the cave and leaves offerings for the God. Then the river gate is opened and a rocket is set up as the water is released.
The horsemen ride parallel to the water as it gushes into the newly cleansed ditches, helping to lift it up and singing walinas. Llanos,

To Awaken the Powers Within

Go outside at
night during the Full Moon and look up to the stars. Allow the light of
the Moon and stars to awaken the forces within you.

 Recite this charm:

Powers awaken, rekindle in me;
The forces of Air, blow above me.
The forces of Fire, burn within me.
The forces of Water, flow around me.
The forces of Earth, grow below me.
And so it now is, and so it shall be,
All the powers of nature, awakened in me.

Use the power you have invoked wisely and remember the words of the Rede:
'An it harm none, do as thou wilt.'

Rowan Lore

The
rowan tree was very magical in the Celtic tradition. Its reddish-orange
berries appear in late summer and into the fall and can be made into a
delicious jelly. Trees with red colored fruits and white flowers—such as apple, hawthorn, and rowan—were especially sacred, as red and white
were two of the most important otherworld colors. Rowan was used in
magic throughout the year, especially for protection. Gather fallen
rowan branches and place these above the doorway. You might also want to create magical hoops or wreaths out of rowan and other sacred plants to decorate your home or altar at this time of year.

Rowan tree,
O rowan tree,
Red berries of life and birth,
Bring to us the power of three.
Gods, ancestors, and earth
Guard us in wholeness,
Ground us with lore,
Bring us together
In wisdom once more.

Babylonian Liturgical Hymn

She stands in the city, the sacred woman.
She stands on the city walls, the sacred woman.
She stands in the lapis doorway, the sacred woman.
She is the woman who dwells in the house of the prince.
She is the woman who makes her bed in the palace.
She is the woman who protects the city and its rich plains.
She looked upon the limbs of a man; she loved thus limbs.
She looked upon the hands of a man; she loved those hands.
She looked upon  the feet of a man; she loved those feet.
~Babylonian Liturgical Hymn

Part of the ancient
vision of the Goddess was as protector of cities and the sustaining
fields around them. She was not, in this role, always a matronly and
maternal goddess, but was frequently depicted as a lusty, loving,
sensual woman. The power she wielded did not make her any less sexually
vibrant. Indeed, her power was part of her erotic attraction.

The queens and
Goddesses of myth and legend show us an image of both strength and
sensuousness. While today we often equate women's sexuality with
weakness and passivity, our forebears saw such goddesses as Ishtar (in
the prayer above) as especially passionate and sexual because of their
power. Ishtar and her sister Goddesses are potent images of feminine
possibility - a possibility that remains despite the 2,500 years that
have passed since she was last worshipped.
