Introduction to Tarot: Week 3: The Major Arcana, Part 2
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Wed Nov 24, 2010 3:36 am (PST)
Introduction to Tarot
Week 3: The Major Arcana, Part 2
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
Last week, your exercise was to draw one card each day out of the first eight cards of the Major Arcana. How did you do? Did you notice any patterns, or were all your results random? Was there a particular card that stood out to you?
This week, we're going to delve a bit further into the Major Arcana, and we're also going to look at the suits of Pentacles/Coins and Wands. We'll also expand on last week's daily card exercise.
The Major Arcana, Part 2: The Intuitive Mind
While the first section of the Major Arcana deal with our interactions in the material world, the second group of cards focuses more on the individual being, rather than societal issues. Cards 8 - 14 are based upon how we feel, instead of what we do or think. These cards are attuned to the needs of our hearts, as well as our search for faith and truth. It should be noted that in some decks, Card 8, Strength, and Card 11, Justice, are in opposite positions.
* 8 - Strength
* 9 - The Hermit
* 10 - The Wheel of Fortune
* 11 - Justice
* 12 - The Hanged Man
* 13 - Death
* 14 - Temperance
The Suit of Pentacles/Coins
In the Tarot, the suit of Pentacles (often portrayed as Coins) is associated with matters of security, stability and wealth. It's also connected to the element of earth, and subsequently, the direction of North. This suit is where you'll find cards that relate to job security, educational growth, investments, home, money and wealth. Go There
The Suit of Wands
In the Tarot, the suit of Wands is associated with matters of intuition, wit, and thought processes. It's also connected to the element of fire, and subsequently, the direction of South. This suit is where you'll find cards that relate to creativity, communication with others, and physical activity. Go There
Exercise: A Three Card Layout
Last week, you drew a single card each day. You may have noticed some trends and patterns. Now, add the second batch of Major Arcana cards into your pile, as well as the Wands and Pentacles. Shuffle them every morning, and repeat last week's exercise -- only this time, you'll draw three cards each morning, rather than just one. Look at all three as not just individual cards, but as parts of a whole. How do they fit together? Do two of them seem closely related while the third seems unconnected? Write down each card that you've drawn, and as the day goes on, see if events bring the cards to mind. You may be surprised when you look back at your day!
Next Week: The Major Arcana, Part 3
In Week 4, we'll review the last part of the Major Arcana, as well as the suits of Swords and Cups. Don't forget to practice drawing cards each day, and if you've gotten yourself a deck, take some time to familiarize yourself with the artwork and symbolism. Have a magical week!

The music, the harmony, the images....all within this are so very, very beautiful. Whether you use God, Goddess, Spirit, Universe, Source does not matter. The essence of this is of true beauty and I believe in each and every one of you; we are witness to and apart of this beautiful Creation we see inside and around us. So for today and every day, to give my thanks for each of you during this holiday season when so many may have little but what they do have

The Cougar
Fitness
Focus Success
Take
a deep breath and let the spirit of the cougar fill you.
Click here to Listen to the Cougar's Song.
Feel the power, the
athleticism, of the cougar. Feel how your body naturally wants to be trim and
strong, healthy and active. Feel how your spiritual, mental and physical
intentions are one and the same, all a balanced part of the full expression of
your powerful nature.
The cougar will also bring
you abundance, for he will teach you how to go after what you desire and bring
it home. He is a highly successful hunter, able to pursue prey seven times his
weight with almost uncanny success. And he will help you apply this ability to
your life, to make the right decisions and choices, all leading to great success
and abundance. No goal is too lofty nor tree too high to climb, for you are
the cougar.
The cougar preserves his
power for the hunt; he avoids fighting unless his family is threatened. He will
teach you how to focus your energies on what truly counts in your life, not
spread yourself too thin, fighting over what is of no real consequence.
Fit and energetic, focused
and successful, is the cougar. And you are the cougar.

Quado's Garden: You are Deeply Important
Posted by: "Ash" mhc4sure@yahoo.com mhc4sure

http://www.quado.com/quados- garden/050823. htm
You
are Deeply Important
You are deeply
important. Every challenge you face increases not only your own strength and
courage, but that of the entire world. For you are one of the fortunate ones,
who is striving toward light, and every time you overcome the shadows by shining
more brightly, you light up the world.
Every time you heal
yourself, you heal the world. Every time you smile, shine with joy, or release
an old fear, the worldâs burden is lightened. Every time you choose peace over
anger, the world can relax a bit more.
You have an individual path
to walk and your own individual mountains to climb, but as you do so, each step
is part of something larger, and what you do, how you think, how you express
yourself, is a part of all that is. You are completely connected, inseparable
from all that is, and everything you do and are has an impact.
All of this has nothing to
do with your status, money, success or appearance. All of this has everything
to do with inner peace, outer compassion and kindness, as you move ever toward
the place where you shine with only now, this moment, seeing it in all its glory
unfolded and unbound.

FREYA
Posted by: "Ash" mhc4sure@yahoo.com mhc4sure
Wed Nov 24, 2010 9:57 am (PST)
Source: Jodi
FREYA
And Freya came nigh, with golden tears;
The loveliest Goddess she in heaven, by all
Most honour'd after Frigg, Odin's wife.
Her long ago the wandering Odur took
To mate, but left her to roam distant lands;
Since then she seeks him, and weeps tears of gold.
Names she hath many; Vanadis on earth
They call her, Freya is her name in heaven.
Matthew Arnold [Baldur Dead]
Freya simply means "Lady" or " Mistress". She is the sister of Frey
["Lord"] and the daughter of Njord and Nerthus, descended from a race of
elder gods called the Vanir; she is known as Vanadis, the goddess of
the Vanas, or as Vanabride. She gave her name to the sixth day of the
week, Friday. She is usually depicted in a flowing gown, and sometimes a
feathered cloak and shining jewelled necklace.
When she reached Asgard, the gods were enchanted by her beauty, and
bestowed upon her the realm of Folkvang ['Field of Folk']. As Valfreya
she is Queen of the Valkyries, also called Freya of the Black Swordhand,
and chooses half the slain on the battlefield to dwell with her in her
feasting hall Sessrumnir ['Rich in Seats']. Odin gets the half she
leaves. As a battle goddess, she rides on a boar called Hildisvini
['Battle-Boar' ], actually one of her mortal lovers, Ottar, and is
depicted with breastplate, helmet, shield and spear. In her hall, where
love songs are always sung, she entertains the fallen warriors, along
with all pure maidens and the faithful wives of the men so that they
might be reunited after death.
She is the goddess of love, and lends a favourable ear to the prayers of
lovers. Love songs were always composed in her honour, and in Germany,
her name became the verb which meant 'to woo'. Freya is a goddess of
lust; Loki accused her of sleeping with all the gods in turn, and she
seems to have bedded Odin and her brother Frey. She even mated with Loki
in the form of a flea. She enjoys sexual freedom, taking her choice of
lovers among gods and mortals at will.
She is married to the god Odur, who is a marvellous lover, and
represents passion and the pleasures of sexual love. He also symbolises
the summer sun. When he is with her, she is happy and content, but he
once disappeared and she was forced to hunt for him in a story
reminiscent of the search of Demeter for Persephone, and Ishtar for
Tammuz. Freya wept tears of gold and amber as she wandered around the
world seeking news of his whereabouts. Without the god and goddess, icy
winter gripped the earth. Eventually she found Odur beneath a myrtle
tree in the southern lands. They were reunited and Freya became as happy
as a bride, which is why brides in the northern lands wear myrtle in
preference to orange blossom. As they journeyed home, the grass grew
green again, the flowers blossomed and nature rejoiced.
As a goddess of fertility and fruitfulness, she sometimes joins her
brother Frey in his chariot, which is drawn by a golden boar. Together
they scatter flowers and fruits to humankind.
Her prize possession is her necklace Brisingamen [the Norse word for the
Milky Way], which she bought from four dwarves at the price of four
nights of her love. The four dwarfs represented the four directions,
north, south, east and west, and the four elements earth, fire, air and
water, drawn together by Freya into her circle. The necklace has been
the emblem of earth and sky goddesses since the earliest times. It
recalls the goddess Frigg's bejewelled spinning wheel, which symbolises
the revolving stars, leading some to think that Frigg and Freya may be
aspects of the same goddess, though while Frigg is the goddess of
marriage, Freya is the goddess of sexual love. Orion's belt was
sometimes called "Freya's Distaff".
Freya is a goddess of riches. When her tears fall on land, they fall as
golden droplets, when they fall in the sea, they become pieces of amber.
Her daughters are Gersemi ['Jewel'] and Hnoss ['Treasure'] , of whom it
is said that she "Is so beautiful that whatever is valuable and lovely
is named treasure after her."
Freya was also known as the goddess of magic and divination, skilled in a
form of shamanic magic called seidhr, a way of travelling the Nine
Worlds of the World Tree. This was a form of magic that belonged to the
female Volva, or seeress, who travelled around from village to village,
undertaking shamanic journeys to answer the questions of the villagers.
Disguised as Gullveig ["Gold-Drunkenness" ] the witch, Freya once tried
to cause trouble among the Aesir [the gods]. She was stabbed and burnt
three times. Each time she rose from the flames and was eventually
transformed into Heith ["the Glorious"]. This may be a metaphor for some
gold refining process, but it also seems to represent a shamanic
initiation that echoes the alchemist's desire to turn base metal into
gold, and along with it, his base nature into spiritual gold. Freya also
owned a feather cloak which she could use to fly between the worlds.
She used it when she went in search of her husband, and lent it to the
mischievous Loki on two occasions.
Freya drives a wagon drawn by two cats. After serving Freya for seven
years, the cats are rewarded by being turned into witches. She is often
depicted with cats played around her feet. With the coming of
Christianity, Freya was demoted to an evil spirit, and the leader of the
witches of the north. One story tells of how she appeared to a coven of
twelve and gave them one of her cats to make the numbers up to
thirteen. Freya is an enchantress who travels the Nine Realms of the
World Tree and leads the northern witches in their rites.

DailyOM - Grounding Ourselves
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:
November 24, 2010
Being a Strong Container
Grounding Ourselves
When we are grounded, we essentially become a strong container in which our spirits can safely and productively dwell.
We often hear people telling us to ground ourselves, but we may not be sure what that means and how we might do it. Grounding ourselves is a way of bringing ourselves literally back to earth. Some of us are more prone than others to essentially leaving our bodies and not being firmly rooted in our bodies. There's nothing terribly wrong with this, but while we are living on the earth plane it is best to stay grounded in the body.
One of the easiest ways to ground ourselves is to bring our attention to our breath as it enters and leaves our bodies. After about 10 breaths, we will probably find that we feel much more connected to our physical selves. We might then bring our awareness to the sensations in our bodies, moving from our head down to our feet, exploring and inquiring. Just a few minutes of this can bring us home to bodies and to the earth, and this is what it means to ground ourselves.
We can go further by imagining that we have roots growing out of the bottoms of our feet, connecting us to the earth. The roots flow with us so we can we always move, but at the same time they keep us grounded. We receive powerful energy from the earth just as we do from the forms of energy we associate with the sky, and our body is a tool that brings these two energies together in a sacred union. When we are grounded, we essentially become a strong container in which our spirits can safely and productively dwell. This is why grounding ourselves every day, especially at the beginning of the day, is such a beneficial practice. Fortunately, it's as simple as bringing our conscious awareness to our bodies and the earth on which we walk.

GrannyMoon's Goddess Of The Day : Gujeswari Gujeswari Jatra (Nepa
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

GrannyMoon's Goddess Of The Day : Gujeswari
Gujeswari Jatra (Nepal)
Themes: Earth; Water; Abundance; Offering; Prayer
Symbol: A Bowl of Water
About Gujeswari: Gujeswari is a potent Nepalese Goddess of earth and all its bounty, and today is her festival day. In many temples, the Goddess's presence is represented by a simple bowl of water, the life-
giving substance and purifier of body, mind, and spirit.
To Do Today: Buddhists and Hindus in this region honor the mother Goddess Gujeswari today by giving her offerings, usually preceded by fasting and prayer. Follow this example, and put a bowl of fresh water on your altar or a special place where it won't be disturbed for the day. If physically feasible, abstain from eating one
meal today to honor the earth and Gujeswari's goodness by returning (or preserving) some of her bounty. Otherwise, simply abstain from a favorite food for the day as a kind of sacred sacrifice.
At the end of the day, just before you go to bed, sprinkle the water from the bowl around your living space. First, go counter-clockwise to banish negative energy that hinders free-flowing blessings. Then go clockwise, allowing Gujeswari's water to cleanse and renew the ambiance in every room. If you have some left over, sprinkle
your pets (for health), your car (for safety in travel), and children's beds (to protect them from nightmares), and dab some on mechanical objects to keep them working smoothly.

Wisdom, 8
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:30 pm (PST)
Wisdom moves more swiftly than the wind.
She is so pure that she penetrates all.
She is the power of divinity.
She is a sunbeam of almighty glory.
She reflects the light of eternity,
and is an image of divine goodness.
In every generation she finds the holiest
and makes prophets of them,
for the divine loves no one so much
as those who lie with Wisdom.
She is better that the bright daylight,
for it fades, and evil cannot prevail against her.
She reaches from one end of the earth to the other,
and Wisdom orders all things well.
~Wisdom, 8
In some of the Wisdom scriptures, this feminine figure resembles the Hindu goddess Kali, for she transcends all
duality and offers a vision of a new, unified cosmos. We find the same intuition expressed in contemporary chaos
theory. Where once the word chaos described an irredeemably disordered state, it has now been learned that
disorder yearns toward order just as significantly as order breaks down inevitably into disorder. The whole system,
order to disorder to order to disorder - is called chaos.
Wisdom is an image of chaotic disorder, a figure who is able to bring together the apparent opposites of life and to
reconcile them into a new order. As long as we cling to one pole of a duality, we are forced constantly into confrontation
with the other pole. By removing the two poles, by forging a unity between them, we are able to move beyond our fears
and into a new, crystalline freedom.

A PRAYER FOR BALANCE
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:36 pm (PST)
A PRAYER FOR BALANCE
Help me oh gods and higher powers
I panic inside and then spend overmuch money;
Help me to find help in a positive way
That I may learn not to panic, not be extravagant.
I want to be happy, I want to be prosperous
But fear and panic inside pushes me into trouble.
Help me find the deep mutual love of a mate,
Understanding and loving.
Help me to find true friends that can help me too
Where there is mutual fun and mutual support;
To find balance in my life,
That I may worship the Light with all my Spirit.
Teach me to understand the shadow part of myself
So that it can be part of my creativity and worth as healer.
Help me be grateful for the blessings that I have,
So that I may prosper and allow myself
To be happy and successful.

A Thanksgiving Prayer

A Thanksgiving Prayer
We return thanks to our mother, the earth, which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams, which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars, which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun, that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in Whom is embodied all
goodness, and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.

Family Tradition
by Stephanie Pflumm
Sparkling crystal dishes
filled with chocolates
and sweet things.
Warm smells and giggles
coming from the kitchen.
Families and friends
gather round tables
sharing their hearts
in the meals
they have
carefully prepared.
Celebrating thanks,
or weddings
or funerals,
they carry forward
an ancient tradition
of love shared
transcending
the length of generations.
