Lovely thoughts

Chris,

Oh my what a absolutely lovely thought, I keep a bit of a Quote journal with me
at all times,  May I be permitted to use this saying from time to time as the
need arrises.  To give courage and strength to others.

Of course I will give you the proper credit.

Lady N. I read your article about "off kilter" jokes. I have always had relative
issues.  This is a huge issue for me. I am surrounded by a great many who are
not at all kind minded and certainly feel the need to exploit the pain of
others..It is so incredibly sad.  I receive text messages with the same.  I am
beyond offended and mortified. I simply walk away, and everyone knows in no
uncertain terms why..There is no question as to my thoughts, I have found though
after some time of doing this,  Others who pretend to respect or even like me,
will hold their tongue until I leave or at least as one of them will say
"sanitize it".  for that I am thankful.
Thank you for posting this.

Melacine

As far as I can see, I got everything I want. I got a roof over my head- the man
I love lying in my bed, Shoes under my feet. I got all I need- and it's
alright by me.

Melacine, like you, I just walk away, although at certain times my evil twin comes out and sets them straight, LOL!

I am half Native and for me I put out a small plate and offer it up to the natives of past. And burn sage in their honor of them. So for me I think of them on that day. So if any one would like to do this in honor of them because they were here first. If you have a way to gril some corn and place the other foods on there with it and offer it up with burning sage as an offering of peace. You will feel better for it. And if your house could be haunted by natives they wont be mad at you any more. Many Blessings to all and be at peace

>

>Answer:
>You know, there are a lot of people who feel this way about Thanksgiving Day. To many, rather than the Brady-Bunchified version of happy pilgrims sitting around with their Native friends eating corn cobs, it represents oppression, greed, and cultural annihilation. For people of Native American ancestry, it's often considered a day of mourning.
>You have a couple of options. The first, obviously, is not to attend the family dinner at all, but stay home instead, perhaps holding a silent ritual of your own in honor of those who suffered under the guise of settlement.
>However -- and this is a big however -- for many families, the holidays are the only times they get a chance to be together. It's entirely possible that you're going to hurt some feelings if you choose not to go, particularly if you've always gone in the past. No one wants Granny to cry because you decided this was the year you weren't coming to dinner with her -- after all, it's not her fault that you find Thanksgiving objectionable.
>That means that you'll need to find some sort of compromise. Is there a way you can spend the day with your family, but still remain faithful to your own sense of ethics? Could you, perhaps, attend the gathering, but maybe instead of eating a plate full of turkey and mashed potatoes, sit with an empty plate in silent protest?
>Another option would be to focus not on the Pilgrims/Indians aspect of the holiday but instead on the abundance and blessings of the earth. Although typically Pagans see the Mabon season as a time of thanksgiving, there's certainly no reason you can't be thankful for having a table full of food and a family who loves you -- even if they don't understand what the heck you're talking about. Many Native American cultures had celebrations that honored the end of the harvest, so maybe you could find a way to incorporate that into your celebration, and educate your family a little at the same time.
>Finally, if your family says any kind of blessing prior to eating, ask if you can offer the blessing this year. Say something from your heart, expressing your gratitude for what you have, and speaking out in honor of those who were oppressed and destroyed in the name of manifest destiny. If you put some thought into it, you can find a way to hold true to your own beliefs while educating your family at the same time.
>For anyone who's interested in reading an excellent book on what really happened at Thanksgiving, I recommend picking up a copy of 1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving by Catherine O'Neill Grace. It's a well-researched and beautifully photographed account of the Wampanoag side of the events leading up to the first Thanksgiving at Plimoth.

You can also read an excellent essay by one of our regular readers which was posted on Witchvox a few years back, Giving Thanks Throughout the Holy Days To The Goddess For Her Abundance.

Things Proven to Change the Course of Thanksgiving

Posted by: "Lady Nightshayde" LadyNightshayde9@aol.com   nightshayde99

Things proven to change the course of Thanksgiving

1. During the middle of the meal, turn to mom and say,
"See mom, I told you they wouldn't notice that the turkey
was four months past its expiration date. You were worried
for nothing."

2. When everyone goes around to say what they are thankful
for, say, "I'm thankful I didn't get caught" and refuse to
say anything more.

3. Load your plate up high, then take it to the kitchen,
toss it all in the blender, and take your "shake" back to
the table. Announce that it's the new Thanksgiving Weight
Loss Shake.

4. Prepare a several hour long speech to give when asked
about your thankfulness. If necessary, insist that no one
leave or eat until you have finished the speech.

5. Bring along old recorded football games and pop them in
the VCR when dad's not looking. Make sure it is set to the
last two minutes of the game when he comes into the room,
turn off the VCR, and then turn on the regular TV.

6. Bring a date that only talks about the tragic and
abusive conditions known to exist at turkey farms.
Request that she bring photos.

I'm saying that I'm an optimist who worries a lot. I also am really gratified when I read statements by theologians, such as Paul Tillich or Reinhold Niebuhr, that really indicate that doubt can be a part of faith, that you don't have to have the feeling that you know all the truth while you're on Earth.

Lemon essential oil can be used as a gargle (2 to 3 drops in half a glass of
warm water) to reduce the inflammation of swollen glands and mouth ulcers,
and it relieves the sore throat pain associated colds and flu as well as
reduces fevers

Elder's Meditation of the Day

Elder's Meditation of the Day

"Our Spiritual belief is that we were created as part of the land - so our identity, our names, and our songs are all tied to the land."

-- Chief Roderick Robinson, NISGA'A

In the traditional way, the names of native people had great meaning. We even had naming ceremonies. The naming of someone was very important and had great significance because it was tied to the Earth. The identity of each member and the teachings of the songs were all tied to Mother Earth. We need to know these teachings from our culture. This knowledge will help us heal the people.

My Maker, today help me find my identity.

Well, the past two weeks have been very busy for me.  My daughter's wedding was lovely, and I'll post pics when I can.

My other daughter's surgery went as best as could be expected.  This is her fourth surgery for kidneystones.  They just won't go away.  She has changed her diet, the beverages she drinks (no sugar) her salt consumption, and still the stones keep growing.  If she doesn't recuperate well this time around, I may be dividing my time between Florida and Georgia for a time.

It's good to be home and to start posting again.

Lady Nightshayde

Yes, the stones re-form and have to be removed again.

Great Idea

Wonder why nobody thought of this before? Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports:

All we need to do is develop a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have hidden on or in your body. The explosion will be contained within the sealed booth.

This would be a win-win for everyone. There would be no racial profiling and the device would eliminate long and expensive trials......... This is so simple it's brilliant!

I can see it now: you're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system, "Attention standby passengers, we now have a seat available on flight number...

Oils that help alleviate stress and tension (associated with seasonal
functions that lead to over-indulging) are:

chamomile, geranium, lavender, peppermint, sandalwood and patchouli

You might want to keep these on hand this holiday season.
