FIVE GRAINS OF CORN

FIVE GRAINS OF CORN
In early New England at Thanksgiving time, it was customary
to place five grains of corn at every plate. This served as a
reminder of those stern days in the first winter when the
Pilgrims' food was so depleted that only five grains of corn
were rationed to each individual at a time.
The Pilgrims wanted their children to remember the sacrifices,
the sufferings, the hardships which made possible the settle-
ment of a free people in a free land. They did not want their
descendants to forget that on the day on which their ration
was reduced to five grains of corn, only seven healthy
colonists remained to nurse the sick, and nearly half their
number already lay in that windswept graveyard on the hill. .

Fruitful Earth Spell

Fruitful Earth Spell
.
Instead of cleaning your plate this Thanksgiving, set aside a portion of your
feast. Take the food to a natural area or garden, and bury it or set it
out as an offering to the wild animals. As you do this think about how
many creatures do not receive the bounty of Mother Earth each day. Speak this as you contemplate: "Blessed Mother Earth. I offer you back the
fruit of your womb, the bounty which sustains and strengthens us all. Be healed and whole so that you may continue to feed your children. So
mote it be." Consider donating money or time to a charity that feeds the hungry year round, not just on holidays.

Today's Goddess: SPES Thanksgiving (United States)
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

Today's Goddess: SPES
Thanksgiving (United States)
Themes: Thankfulness; Hope; Abundance; Harvest
Symbols: A Bouquet of Flowers
About Spes: In Roman tradition, this Goddess's name means "hope." She joins us today to celebrate the successful harvest and keep our hearts hopeful as the earth's plenty wanes. In art, Spes often appears as a simple bundle of flowers whose beauty inspires the most distraught of spirits.
To Do Today: Follow pilgrim tradition and set aside time today to thank the Goddess for her blessings in any way that seems suited to your path and vision. For example, give Spes an offering of the first slice of holiday bread, share food with those in need, or perhaps treat the birds and squirrels in your neighborhood to some bread and nuts.
Locally we invite any friends who have no family nearby to join with us in a delightful symbolic meal. I serve round rye bread and dill dip for unity and kinship, sweet potatoes for life's sweetness and Spe's harvest energies, cranberries mixed with oranges to keep our energy and health intact, vegetables for firm foundations, and pumpkin pie with magickal sigils carved in the crust for the goddess's protective spark. If you look at your own traditional menu, I'll bet you will find many other foods and beverages that have similar symbolism to bring meaning and Spe's magick to your table for this holiday. As you eat, remember to pass all the food and beverages clockwise to invoke Spe's ongoing providence.

unwrapped. It was a huge success last year and we match that this
year.
3. We are now selling
one-of-a-kind witch's scarves. They are $9.99 plus tax. They are awesome and
would make a wonderful holiday gift.
Here are some new
classes for the rest of 2010 and beginning of 2011.
4. Group Past Life
Regression
By
Bridget
Past life
regressions are a process that allows you to experience one or more of your past
lives by putting you into a light state of hypnosis. This allows your
subconscious to remember back to a life time before the one you are in
now. You may see, hear, smell, or just know that you have experienced what your
mind is accessing. This can be a wonderful tool to help with issues in this life
time, helping to understand behavioral problems like phobias, or even picking
bad relationships. Past life regression can also just be an enjoyable way to see
what we've experienced in past life times also.

Essential oils have been
used for centuries. The Egyptian Pyramids had essential oils stored in them that
were still intact and usable when found in modern days. Many oils have medicinal
uses, and modern day medicines are often derived from these oils. We will

By

Reiki is an ancient
hands on form of healing. Originally developed by Tibetan Monks, Reiki was
brought to the Americas in the mid 1900's and has become widely accepted in
hospitals, and is now mainstream. There are four levels of Reiki to become a
master/teacher. Reiki I is the first step in the attunements and opens the basic
healing energy chakras. Reiki I will teach the practitioner to clear themselves,
clear the client and begin the healing process.
