Get Ready for Yule!
Day 7: Your Yule Celebration
From Patti Wigington, your Guide to Paganism / Wicca
Celebrate the season with food, feasting and friends.
© Getty ImagesIn many Pagan and Wiccan celebrations, often the cornerstone of a successful Sabbat is the food. Yule is a time of rich, delicious cooking for many of us, so start planning your menu ahead of time. Open up your hearth and home for your guests, and once you're seated at your meal, take a moment to be thankful for all the bounty and blessings you have before you this Yule season!
Meal Blessings for Pagans and Wiccans
Many religions celebrate the consumption of food with some sort of prayer of thanksgiving. Many Pagans and Wiccans believe that not only should we thank the gods for our food, but also the earth and the food itself. Any of the following may be said over a meal, a Cakes and Ale ceremony, or any other event where food is served... Read More
Make a Pot of Wassail
Wassail was originally a word that meant to greet or salute someone -- groups would go out wassailing on cold evenings, and when they approached a door would be offered a mug of warm cider or ale. Over the years, the tradition evolved to include asperging the crops to ensure fertility. This recipe makes your house smell beautiful for Yule... and while it's simmering, why not go out a-wassailing?
Hot Buttered Rum
Buttered rum was a popular recipe in colonial America, and it's easy to see why -- it's GOOD. You can brew this up in your crockpot, ladle out a nice big mug and sit by the fire on a chilly winter evening. It's the perfect warm drink for Yule... Read More
Sunshine Skillet
When the sun comes up on Yule morning, there's nothing quite like it. If your family celebrates with a solar ritual, after you're done, head to the kitchen for a big breakfast. This sunny skillet dish is full of good stuff -- if you're vegetarian, simply substitute something else for the sausage, or leave the meat out altogether. Quick tip: do some of the prep work the day before, so you don't have to spend as much time in the kitchen on Yule! Read More
Sun King Soup
The winter solstice marks the return of the sun, as it begins to make its way back towards the earth. Celebrate this festival of light with a nice rich bowl of Sun King Soup -- the bright sun colors and smooth texture are just the thing for either an appetizer, or a light meal at Yule... Read More
Divine Peppermint Yule Fudge
Did you know that the scientific name for chocolate is theobrama cacoa, which translates to "food of the divine ones"? This recipe is so easy you can make it in your microwave, and keep it on hand in case company drops by at Yule. If Persephone had some of this ambrosia waiting for her above-ground, she'd have returned from the underworld a whole lot sooner... Read More

YULE/YULETIDE-DECEMBER 20-23
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411

YULE/YULETIDE-DECEMBER 20-23
We begin the heart of the darkness. Winter is full upon the Earth; snow
veils the landscape, thin trees are brittle with ice, and stars shatter the black mirror of the sky. The air is cold, metallic, sharp to breathe; scarvesof woodsmoke drift in the sky over rooftops outlined with twinkling lights, and
porch lamps gleam from early in the afternoon until long into the night.
It is the Winter Solstice, known as Yule or Yuletide, the longest night of the year. In some Traditions, this night begins the new year; for all, this is the holy night of rebirth, when the Wheel begins to turn once more toward the light.
In ancient times, people gathered on this night by a hearth, ablaze with fire, every windowsill and table dancing with candle flame- sympathetic magic to call the Sun back to the dark Earth, and welcome him.
Yule is a time of awakening, of welcoming the new and the possible, when the Sun is born again of the virgin Goddess. Evergreens, cut from the forest and brought into the home, are an ancient Celtic symbol that life continues, even in darkest winter; mistletoe is a Druid symbol of fertility, lovers, and the seed of the God. Holly and ivy invoke protection and good fortune; reindeersymbolize the Horned God; and the colors red, green, silver, and gold represent fire, earth, the moon, and the Sun, respectively.
Customs for this Sabbat include burning a Yule log (an oak or birch log decorated with ribbons, greenery, and holly berries) to represent the fire of the returning Sun. Light the log using an unburned piece of the previous year's log; afterward, spread the ashes in your garden for fertility and save a small piece of the log for next year, keeping it in your home for good luck.
Burn bayberry candles for prosperity, or write wishes on bay leaves and throw them into the fire. Bake cookies or bread using cinnamon, a traditonal spice representing the Sun. Make wreath to symbolize the Wheel of the Year, and decorate it with pinecones to represent the God and fruit to represent the Goddess. Decorate a Yule tree with images to invoke the coming year's blessings, such as fruit and nuts for abundance, heart-shaped charms for love, feathers, for inspiration, and coins for prosperity.
Write a list of all the things you wish to see "Birthed" in the coming year, and tuck the list into a special box or container. Leave the box undisturbed until next Yule, then open it and read your list. You'll be astonished to find that most, if not all, of your desires will have manifested! Just be careful what you wish for.....
Stay up and watch the sunrise, and toast the returning Sun King with hot ginger-spiced cider.
Blessed be.......

Happy ReBirth Meditation
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 13, 2010 7:27 am (PST)
Yule/Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year,
a good time for Awakening your true self, Welcoming all the new and
possibilities in your life, cleansing
yourself, a good time for letting go the old you, A good time for new
things to come "Rebirth"
As this short year 2010 Passes us by, there were many things we have gone through, some really tough times, some
really dark times, some walked away, some stayed, some just linger around to see what comes next, some don't even
know and sit in the dark. Some have had a great year, some have had new
things happen but in all, we all look forward to something New not just in things but within ourselves!
These are the times the
Universe sets up situations to push us in different directions, not
that it's a bad thing, actually can be a good thing, sometimes we need
to move on and start a new life, new people, new places, ect. This
Yule is a special one because it's also a new transaction for each and
everyone of us, it's more up to us to sit and search within ourselves
to find our next step. Make a wish list, all the things you like to see come within yourself, share your list with your family, burn it with
your yule log, save it in a box to share next year.
A great Meditation for Yule:
Find a quiet place to either sit or better yet lay down on your floor, make
sure your comfy, (use youtube if you like to find sounds of a heart beat or womb, something to do with Birth!)
Use a candle like
fresh sugar cookies, gingerbread, cinnamon, pines, anything ghat will
remind you of happy childhood memories (we are not going to focus on bad experiences, everyone had to have at least one good memory or we're
going to focus on having one and making it a new memory)
Play your Birthing Music/Tune
Light Your Candle
Breath/relax/meditate
Lay down/Sit, get comfy, take a long slow deep breath in and slowly let it
out, use your cut, when you breath in feel your belly fill up under your rib cage then slowly exhale, do this a few times till you feel your
body relaxed.
Picture yourself in a warm, comfortable place, darkness all around you with shining stars flashing in the back ground
You are floating endlessly in space, you are so light, you are warm, you
are relaxed and you feel so safe. The darkness becomes a darker blue
with pink and purple swirls around you, you are connected to this space
and time and you hear nothing but a gentile heart beat. Water is so
warm and you feel so safe, floating around you can't see but your you
can hear and feel all good emotions around you. You feel tightly
wrapped and warm, loved and safe! Suddenly a burst of bright light
appears and you are pulled through this brilliant light, as it gets
brighter and brighter, you see such vivid unremarkable colors, Try to
focus on all happy thoughts of your experience, what if feels like to be safe and warm with no worries at all. Suddenly you are held up for the entire world to see, you open your eyes and see your mother's face for
the first time, see yourself as a new born baby screaming out for the
entire world to know you have arrived. Focus on your curiosities, all
the new feelings you have never felt, all positive thoughts...Take your
time to focus on your birth!
Now you are an Infant, you
are dependent on your mother for food, warmth, love and comfort, her
protection and her love, picture yourself again wrapped in a tight
blanket in her arms, shes' feeding you a bottle, she is singing you
songs, listen to her humming as she places your head against her chest,
listen to her heart beat, feel the warmth around your body, You are so
vulnerable to the world around you but you feel so safe, everything is
huge and your so helpless depending on your parents to help you live, to help you learn! Suddenly these huge heavy hands pick you up, strong and tough but yet gentle and stern! You look up at your fathers eyes, he
is so big but you feel so protected, you see his pride in his eyes
looking upon you, when he holds you near again listen to his heart beat
and his warmth surrounding your body, Focus yet again on your
curiosities, all the new feelings and experiences you have as an infant
being so vulnerable, all positive thoughts...Take your time to focus on
your Infancy!
Then he places you on the floor and you
notice you can crawl, you are not scared of the big world around you
anymore you are full of curiosity and fearless, Now you suddenly
realize your first steps, you tumble and fall, and yet again, no fear in the world, you see everything in a new light, you are still dependent
on your Mother and Father but at the same time you want to touch and
experience all new things. Your parents take you to a park filled with
green grass, beautiful bright flowers, the Sun is Warm and inviting,
butterflies and birds, you hear water trickling in the back ground,
children s laughter and for the first time you get to sit on a swing,
how does that make you feel, you notice your hands are bigger as you
grow into a child, your parents are still protecting you but you have no fear in the world, you want to explore and try all new things, colors
and sounds around you fill your heart, you reach up and climb up a
monkey bar, you are on top of the world, clouds spin around you as your
heart races with excitement, you can do anything, this bar becomes a
mountain! How do you feel, Focus again on your curiosities, all the
new feelings and experiences you have as Child, all positive thoughts,
Make your childhood a happy one, all the things you couldn't or didn't
do, take this time to experience it and focus on your growing up!
Then you Walk out of that beautiful Park holding your parents hands as they
swing you up you kick your feet, you are so safe and happy, everything
around you has no fears, no prejudices, you have nothing but love and
warmth, you are brought to this huge door, this is the first time you
actually feel scared, you parents let your hands go and they wave good
by, a huge bell rings and you never felt so lost. Your heart beating
faster as you tummies turn, you now become independent and begin a whole new learning experienced full of toys, books and friends, focus on your feelings as the day goes on and you become more comfortable with things and people around you, words fill your head, numbers dance in the sky,
history and poetry fill your soul, you become self sufficient, you
become a young adult, you are now a Teenager full of energy, you are
still dependent on your parents and know they love you and trust you but yet you see yourself pulling away, you want to experience life on your
own, pimples, dates, your first time driving, your first time choosing
clothes, you can fend for yourself now, see yourself graduating and
becoming an adult, Take this time to focus on being a Teenager, again
keeping it positive, if you never went to a prom go, if you never went
to college go, focus on your growing up and what if feels like.
Now your an adult, you become a Mother/Father yourself, you have an
entirely new life where a child depends on you, See yourself giving
birth, for men see yourself cutting the cord and holding your child for
the first time, how does that make you feel, hold your infants hands,
feel the little fingers in yours, smell your babies skin and feel its'
soft skin. you are so proud and happy, See yourslelf as parents going
through the growing process all over again, as your child grows you age, what does that feel like sharing your knowlegde onto your children,
this is the time to focus on your life as an adult, all positive things, make your memories good ones, bring in what you never had in your life, focus on your experiences and remember how that makes you feel. All
good thoughts
As you look at your hands you realized how
wrinkled they gotten, the elasticity is gone, your hair is gray and you
finally enter that grandparent state in your life. Your children are
grown and take care of themselves, you have grandchildren that you are
so fond of, picture yourself spoiling them an d sharing stories with
them, All the great holiday dinners, what doe you see within your golden years. You are weak and fragile but yet there is nothing you wouldn't
do for your family, now you realize you are laying in your bed very
week, your heart beating slower as your breath weakens, you smell
flowers all around you, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, formilur
faces look down on you and you feel nothing but love and warmth as your
family comforts you in your final hours, focus yourself slipping away
into a peaceful death, the sky becomes darker blue with pink and purple
swirls, things around you get quiet as the sky becomes black again, you
take the love with you as you take your final breath. Bright stars
again flashing around you as you feel yourself floating endlessly into
space were there is no time and no fears, you feel warmth and protection all around you, a simple heart beat once again in the back ground as
you float then suddenly in brilliant bright light you start falling
through
your new mommies womb ready to be Reborn......You again experience "YOUR REBIRTH"
Take this time to slowly open your yes, take a deep breath, exhale slowly
and stretch, sit for a moment and think about all you have experienced
and write it down, write down wishes for yourself and have a brilliant
Yule/Rebirth!

I highly encourage and recommend any who are so moved, guided or prompted to join in on this very enlightening, beneficial, harmonious and beautiful gathering of souls. I can speak this from those I have been blessed and fortunate to take part in. Namaste
Eros Harmony in Life Teleconference December 18, 2010
Topic: A world without harm- cohabitation between human, animal and plant
The sixth of this series begins at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time Saturday, December 18th,
2010. The conference lasts one hour followed with interactive
discussion. This month we will build upon all that has been explored
before to open our realization and truth regarding âA world without harm
â" cohabitation between human, animal and plantâ.
As humans
in duality we hold certain parameters of what cohabitation means and
how we apply this to our lives and affect all other life, consciously or
unconsciously. In a truly harmonious and balanced world there is a
greater depth of understanding, relationship between each species and
its own recognized in its truth rather than seen in a dual manner. There
is an innate connection between each and all based upon balance in all
things. How do we recognize the qualified opinions we hold? How do we
shift to consider and include all in our daily lives? Where do we find
the balance for living without harm in a transitioning world? Join Lea
Greer this Saturday to open new vistas of memory in right living.
Due
to the holidays I request that you respond via email to be included in
the live call or to receive the recording of this session by Thursday,
December 16th. Thank you.

Sodalite

Source (Posting): Jodi
Sodalite
Written and compiled by - Patricia
Jean Martin
The name Sodalite reflects this mineral's
Sodium content and was named by a Glasgow chemist, Professor Thomas Thomson, who
had been hired by the British to identify the stone after they had captured a
shipment of it being sent from Greenland to Denmark during the Napoleonic
Wars. Although first discovered and recorded in 1806 in
Greenland, it took until 1891 for this attractive deep blue stone to
become important in the world of ornamental stones. It was then that it
was found in vast deposits in Ontario, Canada, by Frank D. Adams, during
the Geological Survey of Canada. Later, as it was chosen as an interior
decoration for the Marlborough House in England by Princess Patricia who
had been visiting Ontario at the time and who had fallen in love with
the stone, many began to refer to it as "Princess Blue".
Sodalite has also been called "Canadian Blue Stone" or simply
"Bluestone".
Sodalite is a beautiful deep royal blue
color and usually contains white or grayish colored inclusions
of Calcite. It has been likened to Lapis Lazuli and Lazurite, and in
fact is called "the poor man's Lapis", but Sodalite is a slightly different
color blue and rarely contains the Pyrite that is common in
Lapis, making it easier to tell them apart. Another way to
differentiate between the two stones is through the streak test.
Where Lapis will streak blue, Sodalite will streak white. Both Sodalite
and Lazurite may be common constituents of Lapis, though, and in
that instance may be much harder to tell apart. While most often
blue, Sodalite can also be found in gray, green, yellow or pink, and
all frequently mottled with white Calcite veins. Its poor
cleavage in six directions is apparent by the common
occurrence of cracks seen running through the stone. A rare and
highly sought after transparent variety of Sodalite is found in Namibia and
in the lava beds of Mt. Vesuvius, Italy.
An unusual variety of Sodalite, called
Hackmanite, when first quarried is a violet to red color that will gradually
fade in sunlight to a white or green. This is called tenebrescence.
Tenebrescence is a reversible photochromism, meaning the mineral exhibits
the ability to turn a different color when exposed to the Sun and may be
brought back to its original color when kept in the dark - behaving
similarly to the self-adjusting sunglass lens that darkens in
sunlight. Hackmanite will return to its violet or red color if placed in
the dark for a period of time. The most notable occurrence of Hackmanite
is in Greenland which produces a green variety nicknamed "Chameleon
Sodalite".
Typically occurring in massive or
granular form, Sodalite is found in veins in dry plutonic igneous rocks
such as nepheline syenites pegmatites, phonolites, or related rock types.
Isometric Sodalite structures rarely produce crystals.
General Information:
Chemistry: Na8Al6Si6O24Cl2
- Sodium Aluminum Silicate
Chloride.
Class: Silicates.
Subclass:
Tectosilicates.
Group: Sodalite and
feldspathoid groups.
Color: Rich royal blue with
white or gray veins, patches or streaks common. Also colorless, white,
gray, green, yellow, pink or violet.
Luster: Vitreous to
greasy.
Crystal System:
Isometric.
Crystal Habit: Massive; rarely
dodecahedrons.
Cleavage: Poor, in six
directions, but rarely seen.
Fracture: Uneven, brittle,
conchoidal. Brittle fracture produces small, conchoidal fragments.
Hardness: 5.5 -
6.0.
Specific Gravity: 2.27
- 2.33
Streak: White.
Other Characteristics: Massive
specimens are opaque, but rare crystals are transparent to translucent. Sodalite
is the only feldspathoid to give a positive chlorine test when dissolved in a
HNO2 dilute solution.
Notable
Occurrences:British Columbia and Ontario, Canada;
Maine, U.S.; Italy; Brazil; Greenland; Namibia; Norway.
Best Field Indicators: Color,
hardness, fracture.
Uses: Mineral specimens,
ornamental stone, jewelry.
Myth &
Lore:
Fairly new to the cataloging of stones,
Sodalite does not have an abundance of myth or lore attached to it.
What I have found, though, is that it has been labeled the "Stone of
Truth", as it is said to make one speak the truth... not so much as in
opposition to lying, but rather in its ability to help one clear any confusion
and to distinctlyget to the truth of a matter. Sodalite, like
Lapis Lazuli, has also been called the "Wisdom Stone" as it is believed to
foster wisdom, knowledge and communication thereof.
Sodalite is often used by athletes,
as the stone is said to aid and prolong physical endurance. It is
also said that it awakens the Third Eye, allowing for greater
acknowledgement and usefulness of one's
own intuition.
Known for enhancing communication skills,
Sodalite is also an excellent stone for healing rifts in relationships,
solving dilemmas and ending arguments, making it well-suited for mediators
by creating a wider perspective. The stone is said to promote
trust.
Metaphysical Properties of Sodalite:
Astrological Sign(s):
Sagittarius.

Conscious living.
Awareness and perception.
Unites logical with spiritual.
*Gives physical aid in
treating: Nervous System. Helps balance metabolism; aids in manufacturing
insulin to stabilize diabetes. Boosts immune system and lymphatic system.
Glandular problems; stabilizes thyroid. Eliminates confusion, anxiety,
fear; relieves stress, aids in alleviating Attention Deficit Disorder,
migraines and headaches, and sleep disorders. Useful for stomach disorders. PMS,
cramps. Calcium deficiencies.
*NOTE:
Stone therapy should NOT take the
place of medical evaluation and procedures, and should be used merely as an aid
to enhance one's health and well-being.
My own thoughts and experiences:
There are two things that I immediately
feel whenever I come in contact with a piece of Sodalite. One is a
sudden intense clarity, delivered like a bolt out of the blue (pardon
the pun), but which is imparted with such an intense calmness (pardon
the oxymoron) that it leaves me somewhat stunned. "How can one
stone combinethese two experiences that one would not think
normally go hand-in-hand?," you may find yourself asking. It's almost
a dichotomy - this jolting sense of crystal clarity amidst a bed
of calm.
The second immediate feeling from Sodalite
is that, from the calm crystal clarity, I'm left with the sense that my
intuition has been strengthened and heightened. This bestows better
ability to rationalize and understand the unseen, thus diminishing any fear
or doubt one has been grappling with. There is also, thus, a gain of
confidence on how to proceed with what has been sensed and perceived, as it
brings together the conscious and subconscious mind. Sodalite does
alleviate (and can even eliminate) fear. And for all of the
above reasons and through experience, I've
found this deepblue stone tremendously useful in
meditation, for embarking on any shamanic journey, for dreamwork, or
for working in the Astral realm.
Sodalite behaves very similarly to Lapis
Lazuli - which is not surprising, as they both have very similar chemical
makeups and as Lapis may often contain Sodalite - but there is a noticeable
difference. Where the Lapis seems to hold a higher station or status
leaving one with the impression that it is best used for the types of works
associated with the Brow (Third Eye) and Crown Chakras, the
Sodalite performs at a slightly lower level (meaning slightly more temporal than
ethereal) and best suits the workings associated with the Throat and Brow
Chakras.
For those not familiar with the 7 major
Chakras of the body, here is a very brief description of what they are and a bit
of information on each, starting with the highest 7th Chakra
(Crown) and working downward toward the lowest 1st Chakra (Root), along
with what color is associated with each, what their Hindu name is, what
areas of the body they are located, and their symbol:
Chakra - from the Sanskrit word "cakra"
meaning "wheel" or "circle", and defined as a wheel or vortex of energy
according to yoga philosophy. Typically noted are seven of these
energy centers (although there are said to be many more) in the
body, in the form of spinning wheels. They actually
do correspond to five main nerve centers of the spinal column and two
main areas of the brain. "The Chakras are thought to
vitalize the physical body and to be associated with interactions of a physical,
emotional and mental nature. They are considered loci of life energy, or
prana, (also called shakti, or chi), which is thought to flow among them along
pathways called nadis. The function of the Chakras is to spin and draw in
this Universal Life Force Energy to keep the spiritual, mental, emotional
and physical health of the body in balance." (1)

Earth Element - Instinct, survival, physicality, dynamic presence,
stability, grounding. Located at the base of the spine; below sexual
organs. Symbol: a lotus with four petals.
With Sodalite feeling well-placed on both
the Throat and Brow Chakras and what they stand for, it lends its
energies very well to bringing an ease of verbalizationto what
the mind conjures. For this reason, I imagine it would be an
excellent stone for writers. With its ability
to clarify, it also produces crisp, clear reasoning to
issues that may have become clouded over time.
I think this stone is excellent
for use in meditation, as it tends to not only clear your mind of
those extraneous thoughts, but allows for clear mental visions.
It is a very peaceful stone, but vibrantly clear in how it
communicates. A true cool, calm, and widely collected
stone.
For physical healing, at the time of this
writing, I am using Sodalite along with my prescribed medication to
assist in regulating my thyroid. Along with this, it's produced some very
vivid and telling dreams.
End.

Notable
Occurrences:British Columbia and Ontario, Canada;
Maine, U.S.; Italy; Brazil; Greenland; Namibia; Norway.
Best Field Indicators: Color,
hardness, fracture.
Uses: Mineral specimens,
ornamental stone, jewelry.
Myth &
Lore:
Fairly new to the cataloging of stones,
Sodalite does not have an abundance of myth or lore attached to it.
What I have found, though, is that it has been labeled the "Stone of
Truth", as it is said to make one speak the truth... not so much as in
opposition to lying, but rather in its ability to help one clear any confusion
and to distinctlyget to the truth of a matter. Sodalite, like
Lapis Lazuli, has also been called the "Wisdom Stone" as it is believed to
foster wisdom, knowledge and communication thereof.
Sodalite is often used by athletes,
as the stone is said to aid and prolong physical endurance. It is
also said that it awakens the Third Eye, allowing for greater
acknowledgement and usefulness of one's
own intuition.
Known for enhancing communication skills,
Sodalite is also an excellent stone for healing rifts in relationships,
solving dilemmas and ending arguments, making it well-suited for mediators
by creating a wider perspective. The stone is said to promote
trust.
Metaphysical Properties of Sodalite:
Astrological Sign(s):
Sagittarius.
Element(s): Air and
Water.
Chakra(s): Throat and
Brow.
Peaceful calming and
stabilizing.
Calms fears.
Clearing.
Focus.
Meditation.
Logic.
Self-esteem.
Wisdom and intellect.
Balancing with a slight
grounding.
Communication in group work.
Unifies toward a common
purpose.
Enhances creativity.

Daily Goddess Devotion
One rose blooms, deep within the snowy night,
Encircled by a mystical shimmering blue light.
The hill covered in snow looks so very thin,
As winters breath pierces unto the world again.
I see Her standing alone under the glowing moon,
Hearkening Her children; come unto Her soon.
The moon glows bright against the barren wood,
Yet one rose blooms, where the Goddess stood.

The Meaning of Love
Both light and shadow
are the dance of Love.
Love has no cause;
it is the astrolabe of Godâs secrets.
Lover and Loving are inseparable
and timeless.
Although I may try to describe Love
when I experience it I am speechless.
Although I may try to write about Love
I am rendered helpless;
my pen breaks and the paper slips away
at the ineffable place
where Lover, Loving and Loved are one.
Every moment is made glorious
by the light of Love.

One of those weeks/months/years
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 13, 2010 4:59 pm (PST)
I never send this kind of crap out .... but what the hell. It's been one of those weeks/months/years.
A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper wrapped package:
'This, - he said - isn't any ordinary package.'
He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box.
'She got this the first time we went to New York , 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on , was saving it for a special occasion.
Well, I guess this is it.
He got near the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral house, his wife had just died.
He turned to me and said:
'Never save something for a special occasion.
Every day in your life is a special occasion'.
I still think those words changed my life.
Now I read more and clean less.
I sit on the porch without worrying about anything.
I spend more time with my family, and less at work.
I understood that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to, not survived through.
I no longer keep anything.
I use crystal glasses every day...
I'll wear new clothes to go to the supermarket, if I feel like it.
I don't save my special perfume for special occasions, I use it whenever I want to.
The words 'Someday...' and ' One Day...' are fading away from my dictionary.
;
If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see, listen or do it now....
I don't know what my friend's wife would have done if she knew she wouldn't be there the next morning, this nobody can tell.
I think she might have called her relatives and closest friends.
She might call old friends to make peace over past quarrels.
I'd like to think she would go ou t for Chinese, her favourite food.
It's these small things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come...
Each day, each hour, each minute, is special.
Live for today, for tomorrow is promised to no-one..
If you got this, it's because someone cares for you and because, probably, there's someone you care about.
If you're too busy to send this out to other people and you say to yourself that you will send it'One of these days' , remember that 'One day' is far away... or might never come.....

Happy Holidays and Happy Winter Solstice!
December Astology Reading
We've arrived in Sagittarius, a bright Fire sign that comes at the darkest time of the year.
Without the sun to illuminate things, we have to create our own brightness, with strands
of colored (or white) lights and menorahs.
We get some help from the moon. Although the winter sun is low in the sky and the days are short,
the December full moon reaches high in the sky - the brightest moon of the year.
This year, the full moon actually falls on the shortest day - December 21st, in a kind of yin-yang relationship: the brightest night on the darkest day. Yet the moon will be eclipsed on that same night - at 3:17am visible from the eastern coast giving us a bit of brightness within and illuminating the darkness.
This is clearly a time of endings and beginnings... December is a reflective kind of month, anyway, so take some time to meditate on what you are creating and what is coming to a close in your life...

Overcoming Relationship Blocks
Use this spell to break through and destroy communication blocks that hurt your relationships. At the beginning of the talk, light a Yellow, White, or Blue candle. Yellow and White bring clarity of thought and words. Blue promotes peace and harmony. In addition, say a little prayer aloud or to yourself. Ask for clarity of thought, honesty, and understanding. In times when you can't light a candle, just repeat the prayer to yourself and see a flame being
lit on the astral plane, glowing in the appropriate colors.

Mercury Retrograde
Mercury is turning into retrograde (backward) motion again on Thursday, December 10, and will stay in that direction until December 30th. Be extra aware of what you and those around you do during this time. Mercury rules communication and transportation, and when He moves backward (to our eyes in our heavens), you'll see the "fall out". Packages and letters you're expecting will be delayed, so order any gifts early and be prepared for problems. People drive erratically for no reason, so watch your own actions, too. And what you think you're communicating is not what the other
person is hearing. Choose your words wisely and carefully so as not to be misunderstood. Try not to sign any contracts during this time and use this period as a time of contemplation and meditation.

DailyOM - The Color Green
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:
December 13, 2010
Unifier of Opposites
The Color Green
The color green balances our energy so that in looking at it we feel confident that growth is inevitable.
Green is a combination of the colors yellow and blue, each of which brings its own unique energy to the overall feeling of the color green. Blue exudes calm and peace, while yellow radiates liveliness and high levels of energy. As a marriage between these two very different colors, green is a unifier of opposites, offering both the excitement of yellow and the tranquility of blue. It energizes blueâs passivity and soothes yellowâs intensity, inspiring us to be both active and peaceful at the same time. It is a mainstay of the seasons of spring and summer, thus symbolizing birth and growth.
Green is one of the reasons that spring instigates so much excitement and activity. As a visual harbinger of the end of winter, green stems and leaves shoot up and out from the dark branches of trees and the muddy ground, letting us know that itâs safe for us to come out, too. In this way, green invites us to shed our layers and open ourselves to the outside world, not in a frantic way but with an easygoing excitement that draws us outside just to sniff the spring air. Unlike almost any other color, green seems to have its own smell, an intoxicating combination of sun and skyâ"earthy, bright, and clean. In the best-case scenario, it stops us in our tracks and reminds us to appreciate the great experience of simply being alive.
Green balances our energy so that in looking at it we feel confident that growth is inevitable. It also gives us the energy to contribute to the process of growth, to nurture ourselves appropriately, without becoming overly attached to our part in the process. Green reminds us to let go and let nature do her work, while at the same time giving us the energy to do our own.

What is your Yule log Tradition?
Posted by: "raveninthehedge@yahoo.com" raveninthehedge@yahoo.com raveninthehedge

How long should we let the logs burn?
I havent actually burned Yule logs because I have yet to live in a place that has a fireplace. From what Ive read you are to leave the log burning for 12-24 hours. To do this the log has to be placed on coals and not into a flame. You are to save a piece of the Yule log to help light next years log.

St John of the Cross Day - 16th century Spanish prior of the Carmelite monastery at Segovia.
Feast of Fingar and Piala - In the middle of the 5th century, the two Celtic converts, brother and sister, were put to death at Hayle in Cornwall, by the pagan king of Dumnonia, (Cornwall).
Nostradamus - On this date in the year 1503, the famous French prophet and astrologer Michel de Nostradamus was born in Saint Remy de Provence. He experienced many psychic visions during his childhood, and he later studied the Holy Qabalah, astrology, astronomy, medicine, and mathematics. The first collection of his uncannily accurate visions, written in the form of rhymed quatrains, was published in the year 1555. Three years later, a second and larger collection of his prophecies--reaching into the year 3979--was published. Nostradamus died on July 1, 1566.
Soyal - The Hopi celebration of the return of life, is a month long ceremony which begins with the new moon before the shortest day of the year. The major rights which occur approximately eight days before the solstice include a celebration of creation and rebirth dedicated to the Spider Woman and Hawk Maiden. A failed mock attack is made against the holder of the sun shield. This represents the sun's victory over winter's darkness.

Goddess Of The Day : SAKWA MANA Soyal (Southwestern United States
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 13, 2010 8:31 pm (PST)
Goddess Of The Day : SAKWA MANA
Soyal (Southwestern United States)
Themes: Prayer; Communication; Cycles; Harvest; Health; Joy; Providence.
Symbols: The Color Blue; Corn; Prayer Sticks; Pine.
About Sakwa Mana: The Hopi Blue Corn Maiden, this goddess participates in the Soyal festival by carrying a tray of blue corn and spruce bows, both of which represent the goddess's ongoing providence, no matter the season.
To Do Today: The Hopi gather in kivas today to comfort and bring happiness to the old year so that the new one will be filled with earth's and Sakwa Mana's bounty. Several customary activities today are fun to try. First, offer the gift of a feather to a friend. This ensures then a new year filled with health and joy.
To invoke Sakwa Mana's blessing on the gift, pack it with a few pine needles. Over time, the feather will absorb the goddess's aroma and disperse her power each time it is fanned at ritual.
Making a sun shield brings victory in your life over any darkness holding you back. To create a simple one, cut out a round piece of paper and decorate it with your creative vision of the sun. Either keep this with you or put it in a predominant spot in your home. When success comes, burn the paper with a thankful heart.
Finally, find a fallen pine twig outside and attach a small feather to it. This represents both the goddess and your wish for a gentle voice in prayer.

Shield to Keep from Harm

Shield to Keep from Harm
.
For this
spell, you need the following materials: red cloth and ribbon; any
combination of carnelian, bloodstone, ruby, garnet, jasper, and
obsidian; a pinch of dried thyme; rose thorns; patchouli oil; and a red
or white candle. Carve the protection symbol of your choice into the
candle, and anoint it with oil. Combine the stones, herbs, and thorns,
and wrap them in the cloth. Visualize being enclosed in a protective
shield of white light as you prepare the amulet. Light the candle, and
place the amulet nearby. Focus on the energy of the burning candle, and
infuse the amulet with power. Allow the candle to burn completely, and
carry the amulet with you for protection. Speak his charm when you need
extra protection:
Mars, breathe your fire
into these stones and herbs.
Wrap me in the warmth of your protection.
Shield me from harm.

Babylonian Hymn
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Dec 13, 2010 8:35 pm (PST)
Shining queen of hell.
Erishkigal, you give us
the best praise there is.
The shining queen has hair
like leeks, gives birth without ceasing,
crying out, "ow! ow! ow! ow!"
The shining queen of heaven
gives the best praise, crying out
as she gives birth without ceasing.
~Babylonian Hymn
Birth is not painless, whether it is a physical birth, an emotional one, or a spiritual one. But it is not exactly painful either. Any creative process takes intense concentration and furious labor. It strains us to our very core. But is that pain? Many birthing mothers experience something like ecstasy as they give birth. So do many artists as they create new work. So do those undergoing an important inner transformation.
The birthing mother, the artist, the transforming psyche, call "ow!, ow!" as the process unfolds. But there is exhilaration in that sound, as much as there is complaint. If the literal and metaphoric pangs of birth were more painful than the rewards of a child - or artwork or inner change - are attractive, the human race would have died out long ago. But mothers go on having children, artists go on creating art, we all go on enduring inner pain in order to transform ourselves into something greater. The rewards outweigh the pain - and the pain can sometimes be inexpressibly hard.
