The night or day before yule say:

"We have passed through the time of
darkness. The Goddess has carried us gently. I
now welcome the newborn Sun child.
May his birth bring good cheer to all the world!
May this yule log (or candles three) bring him
strength and comfort.
Blessed Be!"

Light three white or yellow candles or a yule log with three candles. Let the three candles burn 'til dawn or until they burn out. At dawn first light a black then red then white candle and say:

"Blessed be the Great Mother who is at
once Maid, Mother, and Crone. Blessed is she,
Creatrix of allthings Great and small.
Now begins the cycle again."

Let the candles burn out.

Ten Easy Ways To Add Holiday Sparkle To Your Home

Too busy to do much holiday decorating? Between work, home, and family obligations, sometimes there is little time to do more. However, if you start simple, build traditions, and try not to overdo it, you'll be able to add sparkle to your home without getting overwhelmed.

Choose from these ideas for 10 simple holiday touches to help create a holiday mood at your house.

Most are easy, many are free, and all take a minimum of time and effort.

1. Put bows on everything - Add bows to candlesticks, wreaths, garlands, basket handles, drapery tie-backs, banisters, chair backs, houseplants, or doorknobs. These not only look festive but tie together your decorating theme throughout the house.

Buy several bolts of ribbon in a pattern that will work well with your decorating. If you have navy furniture, for example, look for a Christmas plaid ribbon with red, green, and navy. If your taste is peach, find a peach and gold floral ribbon. If nothing looks quite right then turn to plain red or a metallic silver or gold. Select a ribbon that will hold up over the years and won't be crushed in storage. Then, see these instructions to make your own floral bows of all sizes. By using wire to make your bows you'll be able to attach them to many objects without having to tie and untie them each year.

2. Use holiday tableware for every meal in December. Get out your holiday dishes and use them each day. To start a collection of dishes, begin with several dinner plates, or make a tradition of purchasing 1 or 2 new place settings every year. One family friend chooses a new pattern for each purchase, making a wonderful display on a shelf with holiday mementos.

3. Turn off the lights. Light a fire each evening. Dine by candlelight, even if you're having pizza. Put pillar candles in the bathroom[/link]. (Note: Due to fire dangers, if you have very small children you may want to wait a few years before using so many candles.)

4. Add wreaths. A wreath or swag on the front door, the back door, inside and out, over the mantle, or in all your front windows.... Decorate them with bows, pinecones, ornaments, birds, dried materials, fruit, or candy. If you are worried about them drying out or dropping needles, then purchase some good quality permanent wreaths to use year after year.

5. Add color. Put up the perfect Christmas tree. Swag garlands (real or artificial) on banisters, mirrors, armoires, and the mantle.

6. Add sound. Play Christmas music from CD's or the radio whenever you're home. Tie some sleigh bells onto the front door. Wake up your kids each morning with bells and "ho, ho, ho". Watch some Christmas specials on TV. Rent or buy "It's a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Story", "Scrooge", or "The Santa Clause".

7. Add sweetness. Put out a candy wreath with small scissors to cut off candies for guests. Put a basket on the coffee table and fill it with pretty candy canes. Set a gingerbread house on the buffet. Put a bowl of fresh fruit or holiday cookies on the entry table when guests arrive. Bake little tea loaves and wrap with plastic wrap and ribbons, and hand one to each person who visits your home. Add sweetness to your guestroom with these tips on preparing for holiday houseguests. Create ornaments with your kids, then sign and date them for instant heirlooms and memories.

8. Add natural touches. Make a few quick arrangements with natural greens and put them on tables, in bathrooms, and on bookcases. Collect pine cones and pile them in a basket with a few ornaments and bows. Tie up small bundles of greens with a gold bow and hang them on windows inside your home. Put small poinsettias next to bathroom and kitchen sinks. Hang evergreen swags on each bedroom door. Decorate candles with a few evergreen boughs and balls.

9. Add sparkle. Fill a glass bowl or vase with shiny ornaments. Hang decorations from your houseplants and indoor trees. Put up a celebrating Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.

10. Add happiness. Make a ritual of opening the doors of an advent calendar each day after breakfast or dinner. Enjoy lighting the tree each evening. Take a small decorated tree to a shut-in. Give the Hunger Site. Share the light and the joy of the season with your family, friends, neighbors, and strangers.

Solstice Spell for Healing

Adorn the Altar with Mistletoe and Pine Branches and place a gold candle in the center. Burn Frankincense or another appropriate incense. In a small cauldron (or other similar container) place a ripe apple, three bay leaves and a pinch of rock salt or sea salt. Light the candle, visualizing the rebirth and return of the God banishing the cold of Winter. Recite this Solstice Chant:

Geese and standing stones and mist,
Baying hounds and hooting owl,
Sparkling Stars, and snow is crisp,
Herne is here, bring forth the Bowl.

As this is said, sprinkle spring water into the cauldron using a sprig of evergreen, visualizing the strength and healing power of Herne's rebirth. This power flows into the Apple, energizing it with all the power of the God. Lift the apple from the cauldron. If the spell of healing is for another, visualize this person receiving the healing power within the apple, picture them gaining strength, becoming well. Replace the Apple into the cauldron and finish with a chant of thanks:

May the Goddess of Night,
Fair Lady of the Moon,
and the God, great horned hunter of the sun,
May the power of the stones and the oceans,
the Winds and the Flame,
Bless me this night in my sacred work,
Which is right and just in your name.

Thanks! I had to make some more for a friend as she is making a green wizard of oz themed hamper as a christmas pressie for another friend. I also had some green polished stones that I wrapped in wire and turned into pendants with the idea that if the emerald city was real there would be touristy stands who would sell "pieces of the city" :D

It's very partisanly political and I find someone who makes no secret of her deep far left leanings to speak for me and the growing number in the pagan community that are conservative.  There are politcal pagan groups maybe that would be a more appropriate forum.  I come here to learn about faith not politics.  I like starhawk as a leader, she has some good ideas but she does not, in any way shape or form speak for me polically.  If this will keep developing into a polical forum (I've seen several posts like this by this same person) please let me know and I'll leave.

I am a relatively new member here: I have not found the posts been overtly
political – That's why I am still here. People may post a stand point that
may lead you to read a stance/ political point that you may read into their
post. Without your "heads-up", I (for one) never saw it (I?).

Greetings Rabbit,

When I was first learning to ground and shield I felt like that too.
I was lucky enough to have several close friends who mentored me, and it
seemed for me that I wasn't grounded enough. So whenever that happened,
I was told to go back and reground and it actually worked for me. I also
used a clear quartz that was polished and rounded for my stone, but I do
believe you need to find the stone for you that fits you.
