Sweden, Italy: St. Lucia's Day -- In honor of St. Lucia, a possible reference to the Sun Goddess Lucina. St. Lucia was a young girl from Sicily who brought food to persecuted Christians. This however, was a crime and she was caught and burned at the stake for her treason. Young girls dress in white with brilliant red sashes and a wreath of candles about their heads (today the candles are battery operated). At daybreak, the first-born daughter of the house wears a candle crown and serves her family cakes, saffron buns and coffee or tea. Boys also dress in white with white pointed hats covered with stars they are called "Star Boys". There are pageants and one girl has the honor of being the "Lucia Bride" and leads the procession followed by the other children. Lucina was the Roman goddess of childbirth, who eased the pain and made sure all went well.
Lucina became later a epithet of Juno, as "she who brings children into the light".

In the Roman Empire, Lucina was an epithet for Juno as "she who brings children into light". Lucia is still honoured on St Lucia's Day as the girl wearing the candle crown, usually the first-born daughter of the house, is symbolic of pagan symbols of fire and life-giving light. Lucina was the goddess of
Tellus Mater - Tellus Mater was the Roman Earth Mother who represented the fertility of the earth and all beings. She was closely associated with Ceres, the Grain Goddess. It was Tellus Mater who watched over a seed from the time it was planted until it was fully grown. When couples married, Tellus Mater was invoked during the ceremony to ensure reproduction. Daily Aromatherapy Tip - Sweet Bags

Daily Aromatherapy Tip - Sweet Bags
Sweet bags are used to perfume items such as: gloves, linens, scarves,shawls
You will need:
~4 cups/1lb orris root powder
~Handful each of:
dried lavender
dried marjoram
dried lemon peel
dried orange peel
dried rose petals
~5 cotton pads
~30 drops essential oils (10 each of: cypress, clove & nutmeg)
~5 purchased circular place mats or dressing table mats 8" diameter
~ribbon 3" wide
Crush the dried herbs to a rough-textured powder, using a pestle and mortar. Add the orris root.
Put two drops each of
the essential oils on to each cotton pad. Place these, together with the crushed herbs, into a tin or sealed jar to cure for one week.
Divide the herb mixture into five equal parts, including a cotton pad with each portion. Make
the sweet bags. Fold each mat in half, then wrap into a cone shape. Sew
the edges of the outer layer to secure. Fill the cone with herb mixture. Draw together the inner layers of the cone to enclose the mixture, and
sew together. (Alternative bags are made from the ribbon -- folded into
an envelope, stitched and stuffed with herb mixture.)

In Greece, this was the period called the halcyon days - the weeks before and after the winter solstice.
The name comes from that of an ancient heroine, Halcyone, who loved a fisherman named Ceyx. A dream told her that her beloved had died at sea, and so she stood thereafter by the seashore, finally catching her lover's body as it washed to shore.
Transported by grief and unquenchable longing, Halcyone burst out of human form into the shape of the first kingfisher, and her dead mate magically revived and joined her in the same shape. So kindly did the Greek divinities look on this loyal love that they blessed the couple. Now, when the kingfisher is ready to lay its eggs, a calm descends on the sea until they hatch. These are the halcyon days, a term used of any period of calm and peace.

THE LEGEND OF BEFANA The story of
Befana, is very old and has been changed over the years to fit other
religions, but the importat thing to know here is first it was ours... Befana,
also known in the non Italian name as Befanta, is the benevolent
Italian Witch Fairy who flies her broomstick, on the Twelfth Night of
the holiday season, to come down chimneys and bring presents to
children. Befana can be found thought history for centuries. She is
believed to be associated with the Goddess Hekate. La
Befana; In a little village high atop a hill, in Via della Padella;
number 2 to be precise, an old lady, part fairy part witch, passes the
entire year in the company of her grotesque assistants; (the Befanucci)
preparing coal, making sweets and toys and darning old stockings and
socks. These are all to be distributed to children on Rome's magickal
night of nights, between the 5th and 6th of January. This seems the
longest night of all. Every child is in awe of 'La Befana', a sentiment
tinged with love and fear Dressed in black and larger then
life, she comes, entering the houses by sliding down the chimney,
leaving her presents for the children: coal for the bad boys and girls
and sweets and candies for the good ones. The children prepare a plate
of soft ricotta cheese for her; for everyone knows that she doesn't have
many good teeth left. In origin this character is even older than Babbo
Natale; Santo Natale, Father Christmas or Santa Claus. Her festival has
usurped an ancient pagan feast celebrated on the Magic Night, the 6th
day of the New Year, chosen by ancient Eastern astronomers according to
their complicated calculationsEpiphany, later called
Twelfth Night by Christianity, was therefore, pagan in origin.
Therefore, Befana pre-dates her elfin counterpart, Santa, by a few
thousand years. It was much much later when the story was changed to be
associated with the life of Christ. So strong was the remembrance of
things past that two other events in Jesus' life were calculated to have
taken place on this day: His Baptism and the Wedding at Cana. Indeed
until the forth century Christmas itself was celebrated on 6 January.
Until the end of last century La Befana could be found in Piazza
Sant'Eustachio or in Piazza dei Cappellari where the annual Christmas
fair with cribs and toys took place. Then, because of the fashion for
crinolines and large hoop skirts, the fair was moved to Piazza Navona,
where it is still today. This takes the place of the four-hundred
years-old spices market which had to be moved over to Campo
de'Fiori.Befina.A Celtic fairy. Befina, a member of a
fairy triad (the other two whose names remain secret) that visits the
cradle of each new born bestowed upon it talents and made predictions of
its future. This fairy has a starring role in 'Sleeping Beauty', where
the fairies attend to give her gifts and protect her from the evil fae.
The three visiting faeries are not unique to the Celts. The Romans had
the three Fates and the Greeks the Moirae. In all the sets of three, one
represents the past, one the present and one the future. In Serbia
there is one birth fairy, Oosood, a beautiful nymph like fae from the
Veela tribe; made famous by the Harry Potter series. Oosood visits on
the 7th night and can only be seen by the child's mother. The Nornir are
the Nordic versions of the Fates; they are three sisters who live at
the base of the Ash tree which is the axis of the world. Many Europeans
look forward, even now, to the evening of January 5th; Epiphany or
Twelfth Night. On this night Befana would leave her last holiday gift,
marking the end of the Yuletide Season. Christian's
and Befana ~ The Ledged of Befana has been changed by many of the
Christian Faiths; O'Nehis version says that La Befanta was one of the
inn keepers who turned Mary and Joseph away on their trip to Bethlehem.
And in this she now roams Europe, looking for the Christ Child, in her
travels and leaves toys and fruit for the good children. Another says;
The three wise men were on their journey when they were stopped by an
old woman with a broom who asked them where they were going. They told
her that they were following a star that would lead them to a newborn
baby. They asked her if she would like to come along with them at which
she replied that she was too busy sweeping and cleaning up to go along
with such nonsense. Of course, when the realization came to her that the
baby was Jesus the Redeemer her regret for not having gone along with
the wise men was so great that she is spending eternity taking gifts to
good children on Christmas. The version I learned from my Grandmother is
the one I shared with my children when they were young during the
holiday time. Befana, a benevolent and kind old Witch, saw
the emptiness that the children were suffering during the dark times.
Because of her deep affection for all innocent hearts she wished the
children to know that even in the darkness of winter, kindness and hope
could be found. Beginning on Yule Eve, Befana in secret would go door to
door and leave a basket of gifts. Inside each basket they found bread,
cheese, sweets and gifts for the children. But there was also one
precious gift more important then sweets or bread, a brightly colored
and fragrant candle; a Solstice candle. The families would light this
most precious candle upon Solstice night. The flame from the candle
brought a light of hope for the coming year. In addition, dreams of
sweet summer would be illuminated within their hearts. This was a
reminder that even from within the darkest cold of winter, the light of
rebirth would soon shine again. By; Lady Abigail

Her Story
Demeter, in Greek mythology,
was the goddess of corn and the harvest. When her daughter Persephone
was abducted by Hades, god of the underworld, Demeter's grief was so
great that she refused to be goddess of the grain any longer. Her
neglect of the land meant no plants grew, and famine devastated the
earth. She neither ate nor slept, she roamed land and sea and refused to
give her up for lost - her dedication to the search devastating herself
and the earth.
Her Modern Energy
If you're under the influence of Demeter today, she is urging your
nurturing, caring spirit to come to the fore in a very big way. It could
though, be a project, plan, promise, passion or even a person that you
come to see as 'your precious baby'.
Reconnect With Your Inner Demeter
Take some time today to focus on what the 'precious baby' is for you,
and honour the powerful need within you to protect someone or
something. Be careful though that the situation is truly worthy of
assistance, and that you don't "smother" (as opposed to "mother") the
project you feel responsible for. You don't want to suffer burnout as a
result of this challenge.
Demeter is especially influencing you today if this
emotion is so intense that you will feel willing to sacrifice almost
anything for the sake of your project's success. You are protected by
Demeter if you let her, and can take on almost any task, consider almost
any offer, and be willing to go to almost any lengths. Remember the
ultimate protective spirit is at work, and the outcome of every saga can
only, eventually be a happy one.
Light a candle while you are taking the time to
identify your special project. Become mesmerised by the flame as you
visualise the action you are going to take - see yourself pursuing your
goal, and succeeding in spectacular style!
PS. If your urge to be totally responsible really
does run away with you, don't forget to stop and take a breath sometimes
- don't let it run away with your ability to feel like a whole person -
and thus your ability to enjoy a whole life!

Coping with Annoyances & Obstacles
And how to see them as blessings
Over the weekend I had melted jelly (jello) poured over my
laptop computer. It killed the laptop and I'm waiting to hear if any
data can be rescued. If not, that's two years of work gone, and even
worse, hundreds of photos and video footage of my toddler daughter
growing up.
I'm trying to understand what it is in my life that Kali, the Hindu
goddess of destruction, wants me to change. Usually when she enters my
life it is with fire and chaos, but this time her tool of destruction
was jelly. Jelly? Yes, jelly! Perhaps this means my lesson will be
"sweet". (I hope so!)
During one of my little crying bursts (mainly when thinking of the
loss of my photos), I received this message from an InnerGoddess member.
Goddess bless your intuitive soul Para - it arrived at exactly the
right time for me.
The story goes like this...
As you might remember, the head of a company survived 9/11 because
he was with his son on his first day of kindergarten. Another fellow was
alive because it was his turn to bring donuts. One woman was late
because her alarm clock didn't go off in time. One was late because of
being stuck on the NJ Turnpike due to an auto accident. One of them
missed his bus. One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to
change. One's car wouldn't start. One couldn't get a taxi. And then
there was the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning. He
developed a blister on his foot, and despite being late for work,
stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid.
For all of these annoying little obstacles and bug-bears, each one of them is the reason why these people are alive today.
Now when you...
Get stuck in traffic,
Miss an elevator,
Turn back to answer a ringing telephone,
Spill food on your clothes,
Get a flat battery,
Develop a blister,
Have jello spilled over your laptop (!)...
All the little things that annoy you...
Think to yourself, "This is exactly where I'm meant to be at this very moment."
Next time your morning seems to be going wrong, the children are
slow getting dressed, you can't seem to find the car keys, you hit every
red traffic light... don't get mad or frustrated; It may just be that
someone is watching over you.
May you continue to be blessed with all those little bumps in the
road, and may you remember their possible purpose. As for me, I'm taking
heed of Demeter this week, and taking time out to focus on what is
really important to me :-)

Clarity is what takes us from doubt to knowing, shedding light on our
darknesss. But what is clarity, why is it important that we understand
it and are we ready to know the truth that clarity brings? Here's what

Clarity
is a step by step journey, even though we want to rush into the
openings that we see with clarity. But our need to rush into the
solution removes clarity. Read about it in the first article. We
are being asked to let go, when we believe we have nothing else to
release. How much do we have to let go of? Everything that holds us
back, and that doesn't mean stripping our lives of everything.
Confused? This is the second article. In
Archangel Uriel's message this week discusses the gift of time and how
it, along with free will and the emotions, creates our
reality. One

Step by Step ...
I will talk about this in greater detail on this week's radio show on Blog Talk Radio.
Our
journey of clarity moves from one insight to the next, where each new
level of clarity comes as we have completed a healing, learning and
growth cycle. Clarity arrives at the moment when we know on a soul level
that we are finished with an experience and ready for the next opening
that will mark the next step on our journey. But rather than being a
pleasant experience, clarity arrives in a way that makes us feel that we
have chosen poorly or been powerless because with clarity comes the
realization that there was something more, that other things were
possible and we just didn't choose them.
The
moments when we are dissatisfied, disillusioned and depressed are the
openings to clarity. Until that moment we are content with our
situation, if not happy with it. It is known and familiar and
unhappiness can be our habit. Until we are aware that we are unhappy, we
do not look for something else. But with a moment of clarity we see our
situation for what it is and are aware that something else is possible.
That is the first step towards clarity and we must be willing to take
each next step as we close the cycle and not get stuck in our emotions.
Once
we are clear about our situation we want to jump into anything that
will allow us to escape and if we do not allow ourselves to see this as a
step by step process we do not allow all of the gifts of clarity to
unfold for us. Each step farther into the knowledge that we have with
our clarity is the completion of the cycle we are leaving. If we try to
skip over any of those steps we do not do the completion work that we
need to and our closure is incomplete, so we find ourselves in a new yet
very similar situation because we have not allowed our steps to be
measured, deliberate, conscious and aligned with our clarity.
Waiting
for the information to unfold, for the process to work itself out and
to move until we are sure of the next steps is the hardest part of the
journey of clarity. We see clarity as the knight in shining armor that
will rescue us from our unhappiness. But instead, it is the map that
points us in the direction we should begin walking as we take the steps
to move into the release and joy that we are seeking. If we accept
clarity with the realization that it is a step by step journey we will
find what we are seeking, and more, as long as we give ourselves the
opportunity to have full closure with our current situation as we move
into the next.

How Much 'Go' is in Letting Go?
As
we wind down the year, there are only a few weeks left, the situations
that we need to release for the coming year are becoming very apparent
to us. That is what I have seen with clients in the past few weeks and I
know that more is coming before the end of 2010. How much do we need to
let go of, though, before we can move on? And if we feel we have done
all we can to release, why are we asked to let go even more, to release
everything, before we see progress in the form of things finally working
out for us, our dreams coming true and feeling that we are finally in
that space of knowing joy, being in control and aligned with our
purpose?
The
spiritual principle of surrender, which is letting go, is not the same
as giving up and feeling defeated, which is what many clients feel when
they have to continue to let go, long past the point where they are
comfortable with the process. And they turn that into a process of
stripping away everything from their life until they have nothing left.
Then they wonder what they can possibly let go of because they don't
have anything left. Now the real work can begin.
One
client has been struggling to keep his house for the last two years and
it has been very difficult. Then a few weeks ago we talked about
allowing the foreclosure process to happen and at first he was
devastated because it was contrary to all of his beliefs about doing the
'right thing'. As he begin to explore what his house meant to him he
realized that everything he had been doing was focused on keeping his
house and the attachments and beliefs he had about that. As soon as he
decided to let the house go he felt a huge weight lift from his
shoulders. Then came a sense of freedom and joy, as opportunities for
change that were not possible even a week before, began to appear.
We
cannot let go of everything until we understand our attachments from
the level of our beliefs, what we think about ourselves and what we
think others will think of us. Wherever we resist release there are
strong beliefs that are asking to be released. We see this in a material
way but the real issue is energetic. How much of ourselves is centered
or invested in that? What does letting go mean to our belief system? How
do we feel about ourselves after that is done? What new beliefs do we
need to create to not feel that we have lost everything and instead,
gained our spiritual and emotional freedom, when we let go? These are
questions to ponder in the next few weeks as we let go until we can
surrender to a new life and manifest the promise of the new year.

Uriel's Message -- The Gift of Time
Time
is one of many aspects of the third dimension that, together with free
will and the emotions creates your life experience. Time is an imprint
on your emotional body that brings forward the essence of your healing
which allows your soul growth to occur. The things you see as chance
encounters or accidents are actually activations of the time imprint
which begins your healing cycles. Time is a gift because it is through
time that you can travel through the third dimension and it is when you
release time that you move into higher dimensions of being.
Time
exists only in the past, as this imprint is part of your karmic
history. What you see as the present moment in the third dimension is
the activation of your time imprint. The future is created through what
you choose based on the learning you accomplish. Time does not exist in
the present moment and what you know as time is actually the illusion of
your time imprint expressed in each moment. If you could separate your
emotions and free will from time you would experience life as a
manifestation of thought from each moment. This is something you can
know by being in a higher dimension of being.
You
experience a higher dimension of time, which is non-linear, when you
are doing something you enjoy and are in that moment, unaware of
anything else occurring around you. You are fully in linear time and
your time imprint when you are waiting for something to happen and it is
not happening quickly enough. Time is your friend when you are in joy
and it is your enemy when you are afraid. You believe that time is out
of your control but you are fully in control of time and all of its
aspects. The gift of time, like the gift of your free will, is one
which, when used with understanding and wisdom, is a powerful tool you
can use to manifest your reality.
Now
that you know of the relationship between time, free will and the
emotions, you can use this information to see how your fear activates
your time imprint and this then activates the emotions around that fear.
There is no right or perfect time; each moment exists in perfection.
What are you fears around time and that experience that are awakening
you to a new lesson? What are the connections between time and free
will, yours or someone else's, that have you believe that in that moment
time is your enemy? How can you move beyond that to a higher dimension
in which you see the flow of time as an unfoldment of potential that you
choose for yourself? Time is simply an element of your human
experience, another thing for you to master on your journey to healing
and wholeness. Become a master of time and you learn to master your
co-creative abilities and learn to create joy, peace, abundance and love
in your life.

It's a Jungle Out There
As
the mother of Indigo children I remember how hard it was to help my
children feel comfortable in a world they were very uncomfortable in.
One of my children was bullied in school and I spent many years
protecting him, ensuring his safety in school and trying to get support
from the administration. I had some success, after a lot of hard work
and the bullying stopped (my son also grew 6 inches in one year, which
also helped). But more importantly, I taught my children that they would
need to face the world and helped them with the skills that would help
them navigate that jungle.
I
had to find the balance between being an over-protective mother (which
was easy for me to do) and letting my children know that I was there for
them but I couldn't be there all of the time. They needed survival
skills, such as learning to speak up for themselves, knowing when
telling wasn't tattling, how to be confident, learning to pick their
battles and the difference between confidence and aggression. With my
Indigos I had to help them find their center so they could confidently
address their problems and use me as a second line of defense. They knew
they could always count on me but they had to also learn to stand up
for themselves.
The
most challenging aspect of having Indigo and Crystal children is to see
them as capable of handling the crises in their lives (with the option
for help) when they feel powerless. My first tendency was to become
overprotective and go in and fight their battles for them. Which worked,
as long as I was around. But I could not follow them around all day and
it was the times when they needed me the most that I was not standing
behind them. In these times they needed to learn to think for
themselves, to stand up for their rights, to find other resources and to
know when to do those things.
The
world can be a jungle and while we can teach our children to navigate
it, many of them will never really understand it. My Indigos do not
understand why people can't just get along, why there are people who are
jealous of them or who are mean and they don't like dealing with them.
But they know how to and while it has taken some time, every time they
use these skills they feel more confident and powerful. It is hard to
not become the mother tiger for our children (and many of you are very
good at that) but we have to balance our protective instincts with
remembering that out of our great love for our children we can teach
them to find their own power and to brave the jungle with the knowledge
that they can cut their own path through it, no matter what lands in
front of them, and do it successfully and with integrity so they can
feel safe, be happy and live their life with confidence instead of fear.

The
bear will teach you how to go after the sweetness of life, to put up with a few
bee stings to get at the honey, to put up with a few thorns to taste the sweet
berries. With bear energy within you, the petty little irritations of life will
pass unnoticed as you go after the sweetness that is there for you.
The
bear will also teach you how to use your strength and balance it with love.
When threatened, the bear knows how to stand tall and bellow out a warning. His
courage and power will be there for you whenever you need it. But when
approached gently, the bear knows how to give a loving hug. His sweet and
loving nature will reside gently within your heart.
But
most of all, the bear will teach you about seasons, about living with life as it
is. He accepts that life has its seasons, the freshness of spring, the bounty
of summer, the beauty of fall, and the cold storms of winter. And when the
winter is here, the bear knows that it is all right to just crawl into a cave
and sleep, safe and warm. He sleeps soundly, full of faith, knowing that
tomorrow may just be the first day of a new spring.
Roar
out with your bearness. Be present within each moment of every season, full of
love and courage and always going after the sweetness of life. You are the
bear.

Feel
the Joy!
Today, let joy bubble
up from inside you and overflow. Express joy at every possible opportunity.
If this seems impossible,
then come down into this moment, into now, right now. Release the past and its
regrets. Release the future and your worries. Come deeply into the moment and
find the joy.
And if you still do not
feel the joy, then it is time to allow your higher self to enter and teach you
joy.
Relax and breathe deeply
several times. Center yourself completely into now, this moment. Picture a
bright ball of energy above you and know it as your own higher self, your own
soul self, glowing above you, full of love, joy and wisdom.
Then consciously open up
the crown of your head and picture the golden band of energy that flows into
you. Feel it. See how it widens. Feel the flow of love. Feel the flow of
wisdom and knowingness. Feel the joy.
Continue to focus on this
flow until the joy fills you so completely that you begin to smile.
This joy does not need a
reason to be. This joy does not need anything outside of you. This joy is.
And it is there for you ever and always.
