Desperation Today
Today, do not feel
desperate
about your life. Do not look up in the sky and see the hands of the clock
ticking away and feel that desperate need to accomplish something right now. Do
not spend your time and emotional energy in cataloging all of your faults and
asking yourself over and over why you cannot seem to accomplish something, why
you continue repeating old patterns which do not serve you, why, why.
Cease this desperation and
move toward peace.
This very desperation and
pressure which you put upon yourself is intensifying each old pattern. It is
keeping you prisoner to your old ways. You do not escape old patterns through
desperation and asking why. You do not escape the deep rut you have been
walking in by beating yourself up with criticism.
The answer is in releasing
the desperation. The answer is in going beneath the emotional response. The
answer is in releasing the past and focusing in the present. The answer is in
ceasing to ask 'why' and beginning instead to just ask 'how', how can I live
well in this moment?
You escape the narrow rut
of your habitual life by lifting the heavy burdens of the past and the future,
releasing the emotions, and becoming so peaceful and so light that you begin to
float up out of those problems and cares, lifting up with lightness and a
buoyancy born of love, joy and peace, high enough that you are free of the
prison you have kept yourself in and can then look around and see where you
would like to fly to, now that you are light enough to move freely.

Brothers & Sisters of the
Drum,
On Oct. 29 our DRUMS from HEAVEN Halloween Ball was one of the most spectacular
nights I have ever been a part of. Our Benefit for Dorothy Sikora was a smashing
success!
As the festively dressed crowd gathered my first
time guest facilitator all the way from Conn. ~ Randy Brody welcomed everyone
with some fun rhythms.
I could see Randy was really enjoying his time with
the circle. I was so glad he
shared the welcome song Funga with you. funga a la fe ah, ascher ascher funga a la fe
ah ~ ascher ascher ascher ascher ascher ascher ascher
ascher ascher ascher~welcome and peace to you amen amen.Thanks
Randy!
My next guest was Sigi who gave us her fabulous
bellydance.Sigi is also a cancer survivor. You can see she dances with passion.
Sigi has danced at 12 of the 13 D.F.H's.The crowd loves you Sigi! So do I!!
Thanks honey!
She stayed around and invited the dancers to the floor as we
drummed some middle eastern rhythm's.
Next up was the
return of Marco with his guest La Reina. He performed a conga piece with the
circle as La Reina showed some Latin dance steps to
some eager dancers. I
had fun keeping time with the cowbell part.
More cowbell please! Thanks to
both of you!
Our costume parade had some unique costumes.
Winning various percussion prizes were The Bed Bug, Davey Crocket,&Gumby and
the kids were cool too, a pretty little witch and princess and little John
Lennon.
I thank you all for dressin up! I had fun being a
wizard.
As we ate fruit, veggies, cheese &
crackers all donated by the Inserra's of Shop-Rite, we gave away over $2000. in
prizes to many lucky winners.
I thank all those who donated those wonderful
prizes!
After the break I shared my new poem which I
unexpectedly turned to song as I played my new Tongue Drum. In case you couldn't
hear it, here it is.

It was time to
introduce my guest of honor for our very special evening.
I brought out
Dorothy and she was given a nice ovation. I dedicated a healing chant to Dorothy
which I wrote some years ago. Before the chant I borrowed something from the
Rock opera Tommy, changing the words just enough to have pure meaning to
Dorothy. As I raised my hands over Dorothy I sang~~~
See you, feel you,
touch you, heal you. I could feel great energy from everyone focused on Dorothy.
Then chanted Ouy La, La Hey La, Ouy La, La Hey. with 5 different verses between
that chorus. I thank Joachim for accompanying me with his flute and the circle
with lite percussion. The healing went out not only to Dorothy but to anyone who
felt the need. It was indeed a special moment!
I presented to Dorothy a dream
catcher wreath I made for this occasion and sincerely hope all her dreams
come true.
One of my favorite rhythm's
to do with the circle is JINGO. I had a great time drumming and singing ~~~Jingo
Ba! Everyone joined together and the dancers flooded the floor. Another awesome
moment for me!
Speaking of
awesome moments, the night was about to be supercharged.
The next 2
performances will most likely go down as the best ever at Drums from Heaven.
From Ghana, West Africa came Bernard Woma with The Saakumu Dancers. Bernard is one of Ghana's greatest
traditional xylophone players. Their display of drumming and dancing left many
of us awe struck.
The dance troupe danced together circling the
drummers and on que each did a solo dance that was just incredible. Wearing
colorful costumes and exhibiting such high energy dance techniques I was
thoroughly mesmerized as I took this performance
in.
I was also happy to bring
you The Rhythm Monsters, who
perform traditional West African drumming, singing and dancing and invite the
circle to join them in parts. I loved listening to their song as they were led
by Robert Levin on lead drum and the troupe genuinely was inspiring to our
circle. They invited us to dance around them as they played. Just looking around
I noticed so many happy faces loving every moment of
this.
We were all lucky to witness such
a spectacular performance of West African drum and dance and I thank
both groups for sharing such wonderful energy with the D.F.H. circle. We loved
you!!!
Took a short break to give away
our 2 grand prizes for the night. First was the N.Y. Giants football signed by
Eli Manning. Something good came back to me that night..... I won the ball! And
no it was not fixed...lol... We also had the biggest drum give away
for the 5'th anniversary of D.F.H. Over $500. in raffle tickets were bought
to win 3 drums. The Djembe, Doumbek and Bongos were won by Iris & Yigal.
Congrats to our winners!
Dorothy
& Dana took a turn with the circle. They made their rounds mingling with the
drummers and creating some spontaneous rhythms that everyone joined them
for. I think everyone saw Dorothy beaming with joy at this point of the
evening. I'm so glad she was enjoying herself and forgetting her troubles for
the night.
My next guests were making their
third appearance at D.F.H. The Stan Hammeed African drummers laid down some
earthy grooves. Their performance was outstanding. They enjoy when the
circle joins them in an all out jam session. The flow back and forth with the
D.F.H dancers felt real uplifting. You could feel the high energy all
around you. I thank you all for your positive
vibe!
If I could get a drum roll please
~~~*****~~~*****... I want to tell you how much money we raised for Dorothy and
her medical expenses. First the host VFW donated a check for $1000! We raised
another $3000 that night to bring us up to $4000! for Dorothy. We all wish her
much better health...Long live Dorothy!
I want to thank all my volunteers who helped set up and break down. Thanks to
all who donated prizes and money. Most of all thanks for coming together to make
wondrous music with percussion and help a great cause.
I may set this
all up, but you make it work by supporting what I do. You are a real
fine community of drummers and dancers!

This workshop will take approximately 16 weeks as we progress beyond
scratching the surface of the esoteric knowledge used in magickal

amulets, magickal tools, the elements and elementals, and meditation.

Orlando Reyes is a painter, curator and arts entrepreneur residing in Jersey
City, New Jersey. His paintings are experimental compositions of
chemical reactions, in which paint fractals manifest as studies of life, line and nature.
When he is not painting, Orlando Reyes is
managing his critically acclaimed gallery, collaborating with artists,
and curating shows. In 2003, he founded the 58 Gallery, a space where
artists gather to exchange ideas toward the cultural revival of the
Jersey City art scene. Since its inception, the primary focus of the
gallery has been to fill the gap created by the elitism of the New York
art market, prioritizing creativity and innovation. 58 Gallery has
hosted over 200 artists in more than 200 shows, and continues to be a
centerpiece in the New Jersey/New York contemporary art scene.
The Paul Vincent Gallery/Spitfyre Productions is committed to bringing high quality art and entertainment to the city of Hoboken and its
surrounding areas. They strive to continue building a
community of
people who celebrate culture and excellence in the arts. In addition to
exhibitions, the gallery hosts figure drawing sessions every Tuesday

More InfoAt this Sunday service our speakers will address bullying issues,
especially those involving sexual orientation. Two are members of PFLAG
(Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) of Bergen County,
where the Rutgers student lived who recently took his life. There will
also be a speaker from GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network)
and the Mt Olive High School advisor for the GSA (Gay Straight
Alliance). Our young people of high school age are strongly encouraged
to attend this program. After the service there will be a potluck
lunch, followed by further discussion of this topic from 12:15 to 1:30
p.m. We will begin by identifying the many forms of bullying and move
on to ways that people of all ages can work to end this painful
injustice. Middle school as well as high school youth are invited to
join this discussion with their parents and other adults if the parents
think it is appropriate for their children.

Be yourself basically everyone will accept you, when you push it in peoples faces and make a spectacle of yourself then of course we get problems...Be yourself and don't be pushy about your beliefs and it won't get pushed back....
BE YOURSELF NOT AN IMAGE!
Never be afraid of who you are, you don't have to hide if you be yourself
which means yourself do not have to make a statement and be loud for
attention, just be you!

If people around you have something to say about your appearance and talk
about you behind your back, put your down or snicker, these people
shouldn't be part of your life, people like that thrive on making others feel bad, true love sees no faults!
People get
confused with Love and Need, some are lonely & try to latch
themselves onto what ever comes along & set themselves up for a
whole latta hurt. If someone loves you they would never say anything
bad about you, you would be everything in their eyes...If you question
that & find yourself trying to please a pers...on just to get hurt....That is not love that is need, I rather be lonely!

romantic philosophy! We throw off all our constraints and we come to know
ourselves through insight and experience! But… it's gone out of fashion
now."
Jo: "Well, not in the March family, I'm afraid… It's
just that with all of this transcendence comes much emphasis on perfecting
oneself."
Professor Bhaer: "Ah, this gives you a
problem?"
Jo: "I'm hopelessly flawed."
Professor
Bhaer: "If only we could transcend ourselves, without
perfection."

Shedding our costumes...
We've
been thinking lately about transcendence, or reaching 'above' the limitations of
the material world, the boundaries of the body, the intellect,… the borders
within which we are all 'hopelessly flawed'. Einstein advised that we
should "take care not to make the intellect our god; it has, of course, powerful
muscles, but no personality."
These perceptual flaws are,
of course, illusory and yet engraved so deeply upon our psyches that we accept
them, share them and live them as though they define us. Must we rid
ourselves of these imperfections before transcendence can be achieved? Are
we able to glimpse what is real, what is genuine about ourselves, with our
flaws in full view? Perhaps it is as simple as deciding to shed a
costume, laying aside whatever role we find ourselves playing, as easily as an
actor steps out of character when the director says "Cut!". Perhaps it
just takes some recognition that we are the director of the movie that is
our current life and can 'take five' anytime we choose, flaws and
all.
But it seems we prefer to be hard on ourselves.
Ironically, we cling to our belief in our guilt, in our sins, in our
unworthiness and therefore feel we have to beat the tenure out of all of it
before we can progress. But let's examine what we are moving toward… Love,
Light, Peace…. the highest vibrational Source. Truly, would Love require a
beating before it revealed itself? Hmmm…
Most
evenings, shortly after dusk, I look up to the heavens. Though I see a
similar sky almost every night, the deep, striking sapphire hues never fail to make time stop. And the same child-like
thought returns... "Never before have I seen a more beautiful
color."
I absorb the color deeply and for a
moment, amid all my flaws I think of as necessary, scattered around me
like so many slippery stepping stones, I transcend. The costume falls
to my feet and I am free to roam a borderless world.
Sometimes, transcendence is as easy as
that. Nothing to achieve; so much to receive. We need to
lighten up on ourselves, folks. :)
