DailyOM - Feeling Jealous
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:
March 21, 2011
Knowing Our Heart's Desire
Feeling Jealous
When we examine jealousy of another, we can use this feeling to help us determine what we really want for ourselves.
Jealousy is one of the toughest feelings we come up against in our lives. There is not much worse than this aching sense that somehow life has been unfair to us, while amply rewarding someone else. It's even worse if that someone else is present in our daily lives, making it difficult for us to get the space we need to feel and heal our pain. We may be jealous of a sibling, a dear friend, or even famous personalities. We may even face the challenge of feeling jealous of our spouse, our child, or one of our parents. Whatever the case, we can normalize our experience by understanding that, as painful as it is, jealousy is a common human feeling.
Nevertheless, it is important that we not revel in our jealousy for too long, feeding it with inner talk or gossip with others. If we do, we run the risk of losing ourselves to its negative power. Jealousy has something good to offer us, though, and that is information about our own heart's desire. When we are jealous of certain people, we want what they have, and if we are to be conscious, we must acknowledge that. In this way, we discover what we want for ourselves, which is the first step to getting it. It may be a certain kind of relationship or a career. Whatever it is, it is possible that we could create it for ourselves, in our own lives, if we are able to honor our own desires.
Of course, there are times when we cannot heal our jealousy in this way, and then the lesson may be about acceptance and the understanding that our path is different from the paths of those around us. It may be hard to see now, but perhaps it will eventually be clear why our life has taken its particular path. In the end, the best cure for jealousy is the recognition that the life we have is full of its own meaning and beauty, utterly unique to us—a gift that could never be found in the life of another.

Rome - Festival of Minerva - Goddess of Art and Science
Slavic Pagan: Maslenitsa - Suhii (March) 21 - Maslenitsa is a very ancient festival, the holiday of the Spring Equinox and the end of the winter frosts.People enjoy themselves, engaging in much feasting, dancing, wearing of masks, playing on traditional musical instruments, and contests of strength, all to enact spring unbridled, in action and fighting. Traditional pastries are also baked, called blini (a type of potato pancake), to symbolize the sun.
Attis - Attis was the lover and grandson of Cybele, the Attic goddess who was known as mother of mountains and depicted flanked by lions. When Attis betrayed her, she hunted him down and drove him insane. He tore off his genitals because they had caused him to betray her.
Originally a Phyrgian goddess, Cybele's worship was imported to Rome, where she was called Magna Mater (Great Mother). Emperor Claudius popularized the Phyrgian tradition of bringing a young pine tree representing Attis into the city like a corpse, swathed in linen and woolen sashes and decked with violets. Members of the Tree Bearer's Guild (dendrophori) carried it through the city gate and into Cybele's sanctuary which stood on Vatican Hill, near where St Peter's stands now.

Goddess of The Day: SHEELAH-NA-GIG Her day is celebrated 19 March
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:03 pm (PDT)
Goddess of The Day: SHEELAH-NA-GIG
Her day is celebrated 19 March
Themes: Fertility; Sexuality; Protection; Passion; Femininity
Symbols: Nakedness; Lust-inspiring Scents; Whiskey
About Sheelah-Na-Gig: The image of this Irish goddess of fertility tells us much about the unbridled nature of feminine passion that Sheelah inspires with springlike whimsey. She is shown smiling broadly, holding her legs wide open, completely naked. Nonetheless, this is not irresponsible lust; it is the gate of life through which we all pass. Interestingly enough, Sheelah's image, in an amulet, offers protection, too - perhaps she was the first goddess of safe sex?
To Do Today: Sheelah's Day is celebrated in true Irish fashion by drinking abundant whiskey and drowning a shamrock in the last glass consumed, to end the festivities. This particular custom denotes the idea of consuming one's luck, increasing fecundity, and internalizing the goddess's protective energies before the day is over. So if you can tolerate whiskey, toast Sheelah, take a sip, and warm up your passion! Otherwise, offer her a libation of whiskey, asking for her energy to be likewise liberated in your body.
If you have a significant other, one of the best ways to honor Sheelah is through passionate encounters that are balanced with wisdom and foresight. Take a condom and bless it, saying:
Sheelah, my hunger see. let my body love freely.
But keep us safe, fertility bind,
no matter our haste, keep protection in mind.
Carry this condom with you to your tryst.

The Dream of Maxen, in the Welsh Mabinogian
Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM chic0411
Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:10 pm (PDT)
In a red-gold chair sat a woman. To stare directly into the
sun would be less difficult than to stare at her brilliance.
A white silk gown clothed her, fastened with red gold.
On her shoulders sat a mantle of such brocade as cannot
be described, all woven with gold and jewels fastened
with a brooch of gold. Her hair was dressed with rubies
and pearls and gold. And all of this was just a reflection
of her inner brilliance.
~The Dream of Maxen, in the Welsh Mabinogian
Today the light has outstripped the darkness inn its annual race. Energy pours into our bodies as we begin to feel again the power and grace of light-filled movement. During the coming season. we will honor the sun and the light, feeling its power and rejoicing in its beauty.
We do not need to deny the night to celebrate the day. Both have their special glories. Relish the delight of warm air on skin. Let your eyes rest with joy on the yellow-green of new leaves. Touch the tender catkins and the fragile crocus petals, feeling the wonder of pleasure. We are born into bodies that sense and respond to our world. Let yourself become a vessel of the power of the goddess, acknowledging the beauty she has created.
