Have You Ever... Depression

Posted by: "holly@ravenmadness.com" holly@ravenmadness.com   fshaunt

Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:31 am (PDT)

Today's post is dedicated to all those who have found themselves in
that deep dark hole of depression, loneliness and sorrow. It happens to
all of us at some point in time. Life becomes complicated and messy…
there are days when we just can't deal with what life brings us or we
just don't know how to cope. So many reasons that we can find
ourselves in this dark place. Life throws at us so much, sometimes it is
just too hard for us to take on.

I want everyone who finds themselves in this dark place to know that you
are not alone. This happens to us all and the thing I want you to take
with you from this post is that … it is never forever… the pain,
loneliness, sorrow, depression is temporary and you can overcome it…
there will be light again.

Reach out to your friends and family to help you through the difficult
times. With much love and understanding I send to you all great big
healing {{hugs}} and well wishes.

Have you Ever?

Have you ever found yourself so sad you didn't want to get out of bed

Crazy thoughts run through your mind, like what if I were dead

You begin to wonder if suddenly I were no longer here

Would anyone notice, would anyone even care

Your world seems so dark and sad

You wonder, why does this feel so bad

It feels like there will never again be light

It's so hard not to give up and continue to fight

You wonder what's next and how much can I take

Then you think maybe I'll close my eyes and never wake

But then you realize this is no way for your life to end

So you pull yourself together and cry to a friend

Letting go of the misery and all the pain

A friend shows you that there will be light once again

You are not alone in this fight

There are others who feel the same, crying in the night

So let tomorrow be the beginning, a fresh start

And let go of what burdens your mind and your heart

Nothing good ever comes from wishing you were dead

So snap out of it and get your ass out of bed!

Many Blessings,

I have a chronic depression problem. The "better living through chemistry"
thing works for me too.

Greetings Friends,
Forwarding this from Oberon Zell....do you know about Harvard
hosting the Social Transformation Speakers who are witchhunters???
See the letter below if you feel compelled to write the Dean at
Harvard about this -- Karen

From: Oberon Zell

Wow! This is really nasty:

".these four conference speakers are "apostles" in a global evangelical
network whose leaders appear bent on restoring a Pre-Enlightenment
worldview
in which believers and society are beset by demons including succubi and
incubi, menaced by the conjoined threats of apostasy and idolatry, and
plagued by "generational curses"--these apostles represent a Christian
supremacist movement whose leaders encourage believers to cleanse
the Earth
of infidels and competing belief systems."

And they're after us!

Please pass this on-and write to Harvard! deansoff@hsph.harvard.edu

Dear Sir, Madam

I am appalled at the actions of Harvard in hosting the Social
Transformation
speakers on April 1 and 2, 2011. The speakers slated for this conference
have espoused hatred and persecution of gay people and have promoted
religious discrimination and persecution of non-Christians (to the
point of
being considered "witch hunters")

While I believe in the right to free speech, this amounts to a religious
group proselytizing for their particular brand of hate and is not in the
interest of either the public or the university. Why not just invite the
Westboro Baptist church too?

I have seriously lowered my opinion of Harvard on the basis of this
program
and sincerely hope that you will reconsider. I also hope that you will
consider the legal implications should some unbalanced individuals
decide to
attack gay or non-Christian people or organizations as a result of this
symposium.

Come, whatever your path is, and celebrate the return of Spring with

the Druids! The first ADF festival of the year, Trillium Spring

Gathering, is nearly upon us. This year Trillium's theme is the

Individual Pagan Path. We have workshops scheduled by ADF Vice

Archdruid James "Seamus" Dillard, ADF Preceptor Crystal Groves, and

others. Other activities include a warrior competition, brewing

competition, and children's workshops. There will be a few vendors

offering a range of items.

It will be at TLC Campground in Northwestern Virginia once again,

which offers a tent and RV camping and a bathhouse with running hot

and cold water. There are hotels about twenty minutes away, and there

is a meal plan available (or bring your own food).

See http://www.TrilliumGatheringADF.org/ for advance/at-the-door

registration and more information. If you're curious about ADF, visit

UPDATE -- Harvard Hosts Witchhunters - Social Transformation Speaker

Posted by: "Karen Tate" karentate108@ca.rr.com   specialjourn

Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:28 pm (PDT)

uPDATE -- I'm told by a scholar friend the following about this
situation:

This event was organized by a student group at Harvard, and was not endorsed by the university. A university cannot prevent student organizations from inviting speakers to campus, even if the views of those speakers do not represent the university's. This is part of academic freedom. Let's remember that Harvard has hosted two important Pagan conferences in recent years: the one on Folklore and Paganism in April 2007, and the symposium on Paganism and European Shamanism in the summer of 2009. In contrast, these events were organized by Harvard faculty and sponsored and endorsed by the university.

Writing to the Dean in protest is not going to do anything for us in this case except make us look uninformed.

Fw: DailyOM: The Effect of Not Doing

DailyOM - When We Don't Take Action
Today's DailyOM brought to you by:

March 30, 2011
The Effect of Not Doing
When We Don't Take Action
Every action taken affects the whole as greatly as every action NOT taken.

Life is sculpted on a moment-to-moment basis. Every one of the thoughts we think, the words we speak, and the actions we take contributes to the complex quality and character of the universe's unfolding. It simply is not possible to be alive without making an impact on the world that surrounds us. Every action taken affects the whole as greatly as every action not taken. And when it comes to making the world a better place, what we choose not to do can be just as important as what we choose to do.

For example, when we neglect to recycle, speak up, vote, or help somebody in immediate need, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to be an agent for positive change. Instead, we are enabling a particular course to continue unchallenged, picking up speed even as it goes along. By holding the belief that our actions don't make much of a difference, we may find that we often tend to forego opportunities for involvement. Alternatively, if we see ourselves as important participants in an ever-evolving world, we may feel more inspired to contribute our unique perspective and gifts to a situation.

It is wise to be somewhat selective about how and where we are using our energy in order to keep ourselves from becoming scattered. Not every cause or action is appropriate for every person. When a situation catches our attention, however, and speaks to our heart, it is important that we honor our impulse to help and take the action that feels right for us. It may be offering a kind word to a friend, giving resources to people in need, or just taking responsibility for our own behavior. By doing what we can, when we can, we add positive energy to our world. And sometimes, it may be our one contribution that makes all the difference.

Can You Eat Acorns

Posted by: "Grandfather Oak" robert_patti@windstream.net   grandfatheroak_wizard

Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:40 pm (PDT)

If you asked Euell Gibbons he would tell you acorns are not just for squirrels.
http://askville.amazon.com/acorns-edible/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=17756711

While most people do not even consider eating acorns as a snack, they are just as edible as any other nut. Acorns taste good and are nutritious and easy to harvest. Acorns come from oak trees and a long time ago, these nuts were a staple in the diet of Native Americans.

Native Americans all across oak-growing North and South America harvested acorns, which were nearly as important a food as corn or beans. Such tribes as the Cherokee, Apache, Pima, and Ojibwa routinely harvested and used the acorn. These Indian gatherers taught early settlers how to harvest and use acorns in their cooking, as they did corn and other traditional foods. Even today, many Indians gather acorns, both to use themselves and to sell in Mexican markets.

And those bright, shining round acorns are very good for you, besides tasting great. Acorns have been tested and found to be possibly the best food for effectively controlling blood sugar levels. They have a low sugar content, but leave a sweetish aftertaste, making them very good in stews, as well as in breads of all types. They are rich in complex carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins while they are lower in fat than most other nuts. They are also a good source of fiber.

An additional benefit from eating acorns is in the gathering. Acorns, although they "fall from trees," must be picked and processed before eating, which requires a walk, then bending and picking up. All of these are good exercise. In fact, that is why many "primitive" foods are so healthy. They require exercise just to put them on the table, not just a short trip to the convenience store or fast food joint. LOL!

Unfortunately, many acorns do taste bitter. This is because they contain tannin, a bitter substance in oaks which is used to tan leather. Real pucker power here. Some varieties of acorns contain more tannin than others. They range from the Emory oak of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, which is so mild it can be used without processing, to some black oaks with very bitter acorns, requiring lengthy processing to render edible.

Generally, the best acorns to harvest are those of the white oaks, such as the swamp oak, Oregon white oak, and burr oak, as they contain less bitter tannin. Luckily, nearly all acorns can be made usable with natural processing which renders them nutty and sweet.

Some acorns, such as those of the Emory oak, require no more processing than cracking them open and eating them. Like most nuts, acorns of all types benefit from toasting on a cookie sheet in an oven at 175 Stir to prevent scorching.

However, most acorns do contain enough tannin to make leaching this bitter substance out necessary. To do this, simply sit down and crack a big bowlful of acorns, carefully examining each nut for black holes, which indicates a worm is inside rather than a wholesome plump yellowish-beige nut. Acorns are very easy to crack. The shell is pliable and quite thin. Pop the cap off, then simply grasp it with a pair of pliers and give a squeeze. Don't mash the kernel. Simply crack the shell. Then peel it off and toss the kernel into a bowl.

To make acorn meal get out your food grinder. Put a fine blade on the grinder and run the shelled acorns through it. This makes a coarse meal. Place this in a large crock or glass bowl. Then add boiling water to cover and let stand an hour. Drain and throw away the brownish, unappetizing water. Repeat. Then taste the meal. It should have a bit of a bitter tang, then taste sweet as you chew a piece. Continue leaching out the tannin as long as necessary.

When the acorn meal is mild tasting, it is ready to dry. You can use a piece of old white sheet in a basket and pour the wet meal on it. Then, gathering up the edges, jelly bag style, I press and squeeze, getting out as much of the water (and tannin) as possible. One caution—don't let wet acorn meal lie about for hours, or it will surely mold. Keep at the leaching process.

Spread the damp meal out in a shallow layer on a cookie sheet or on sheets of your dehydrator. Then begin to dry it. In the oven, you only need the pilot light or the very lowest oven setting. As it begins to dry, take your hands and very carefully crumble any chunks which hold moisture. Slowly your meal will begin to look quite good.

When the meal is completely dry, run it through a fine setting on your grain mill. The traditional method was to use a stone (mano in the southwest) hand grinder to crush the meal on a large, flat stone (metate). It is now ready for use in your recipes. If you produced more meal than you need right now, you can store the meal in the freezer or refrigerator in an airtight bag or jar. The dry, ground meal will last a week or so, stored in an airtight jar on the shelf. But, because of the oil, the meal will begin to go rancid, as will whole wheat flour and homeground cornmeal.

Some Native Peoples called acorns "grain from the tree," indicating the use they had for it as a grain in cakes, breads, and thickening for stews and soups. Today folks use "cream of this and that" soups for the same thing.

Processed acorns taste like a cross between hazelnuts and sunflower seeds, and acorn meal can be included in multi-grain bread recipes. Adding half a cup of acorn meal to a two-loaf bread recipe and reducing the flour, as needed, works quite well. Because the acorn meal is a natural sweetener,

As acorn meal is very dense, you will have to take care to get your bread to rise when adding it. One way to ensure this is to use hot liquid and beat in your flour, making a batter. Then cool so you can add the yeast and the rest of the ingredients. This helps release wheat gluten to let the bread rise, despite heavy ingredients. Indian bread was always very dense and heavy, as there was seldom, if ever, wheat or yeast added to the recipe. It takes wheat gluten, as well as yeast, to make bread rise properly. Indian breads were often small, thin cakes baked before the fire on large, reflecting rocks. They were not puffy, large loaves as we are accustomed to today.

Here is an Apache recipe for acorn cakes.

Apache acorn cakes:

1 cup acorn meal, ground fine
1 cup cornmeal
1/4 cup honey
pinch of salt

Mix the ingredients with enough warm water to make a moist, not sticky dough. Divide into 12 balls. Let rest, covered, for 10 minutes or so. With slightly moist hands, pat the balls down into thick tortilla-shaped breads. Bake on an ungreased cast iron griddle over campfire coals or on clean large rocks, propped up slightly before the coals. If using the stones, have them hot when you place the cakes on them. You'll have to lightly peel an edge to peek and see if they are done. They will be slightly brown. Turn them over and bake on the other side, if necessary.

These cakes were carried on journeys dry and eaten alone or with shredded meat.

BLACK SWAN LAKE is located 5 minutes off the scenic and historical highway: US-50, about 15 miles east of Bedford, Indiana in the Clear Spring area. BSL is a large alternative campground with 2 stocked fishing lakes (no swimming), a round house where Native American ceremonies have taken place, several roofed gazebos, one large open space for the main circle (where the electric stage is set up and the evening jam happens), surrounded by plenty of RV/van/camper space with water and electric hook-ups ($5/day for electric), two wooded tent camping areas, showers and privies, large air-conditioned community building with a stage for acoustic music, and a restaurant/concessions building (3 meals a day). No problem with drumming and jamming all night long and celebrating nature without harassment. There is plenty of clean well water (the best in the area) and ice made from that water is available. The owners are into earth-based spirituality, organic gardening, and sustainable living.

Astrology Forecast - End of March
Jupiter,
the planet that brings expansion, is opposite Saturn, the planet that
restricts. The last times these two planets opposed each other were May and
August of 2010. What was begun at that time last year can be completed now. Saturn
has given you the reality test of what efforts you need to make to overcome blocks.

Are you
ready to take things to the next phase?

What
adjustments do you need to make?

Are you
willing to do the work it takes to achieve your goals?

How can you
fine-tune your projects?

Mercury
goes retrograde on March 30th at 24 Aries and will go direct on
April 23rd. Use this time period to review and clarify issues
already underway. This transit invites us to slow down. Misunderstandings could
occur as a result of haste. Revise how you use your power, direct your energy
and take action.
An astrology reading can reveal new insights about your goals and offer
a fresh perspective.

Spring Special -

During April, sign up for an hour astrology
reading and receive a free e-mailed 20-page report. A session can help you tune into what's important so that
you can make better choices in your life.http://www.djunaverse.com/astrology.phpor djuna@djunaverse.com

New Podcast Series - Karmic Journeys
Karmic
Journeys is a podcast series that explores past lives and soul healing. My
mission is to entertain and educate the public about the value of spiritual
healing. Each week I'll feature an interview with ordinary people who've had
extraordinary experiences while undergoing the regression or soul healing
process. They'll share the impact the sessions had on their lives.
Occasionally, I'll also interview other healers about the mind-body-spirit
connection.

This week's
topic is: Can Exploring Past Lives Get You Pregnant? My guest is Margarita.
She'll share how a past-life regression changed her life. Please visit

http://web.me.com/djunawojton/Site/Karmic_Journeys_Home/Karmic_Journeys_Home.html

to listen.

Please
write a review and subscribe! It will soon be available on i-tunes.

Do you want to be a powerful

starts with a meditation. There will be time to write your goals and intentions
for the New Year, before declaring them into the sacred circle.

Problems with
relationships, money, or health may have roots in other lifetimes. By resolving
spiritual conflicts made in prior lives you can actually
break free from karma 's chains, transform the way you perceive your
self, and experience inner peace.

You'll
learn a relaxation technique to access information from your higher self.
During the regression, you'll have the opportunity to: uncover limiting beliefs and clear them, gain insights on
your purpose, and examine the roles your present relationships have played in
other lives. A regression will give you an expanded awareness of yourself and
help you gain a new perspective on your life's challenges

What's Happening Today:

Ancient Babylonia: SACRED DRAMA DAY, in which the king, in the role of Marduk, re-enacts the conquest of Tiamat,
the watery chaos.

Worship of the Moon - The Romans worshipped the Moon in her temple on the Aventine Hill on the evening preceding the festival of Venus Verticordia (see Apr 1). A late Roman poem about this festival, the Pervigilium Veneris, contains the famous line bidding all who have never loved and all who have loved to love on the morrow. Blackburn, Bonnie and Leofranc Holford-Strevens, Oxford Companion to the Year, Oxford University Press 1999http://www.schooloftheseasons.com

Hares and Rabbits - It is lucky to say, "Hares, Hares," aloud as you go to bed on the last day of the month (any month), and to say "Rabbits, Rabbits," as soon as you awaken the following morning. This is true for any month, but it seems especially appropriate during this month of the mad hare. And why are hares mad in March? Because this is when hares breed, and apparently leaping, cavorting, dancing and frolicking are part of their mating ritual.http://www.schooloftheseasons.com
Rome: The annual Feast of Luna was celebrated annually at moonrise on this date in ancient Rome.

Greek: The last day of every month is sacred to the Goddess Hekate.

Gaia - The Greeks honored the Earth Mother on the 10th day of the lunar month, Elaphabolion.

Waning  Moon

Devi Mahatmyam, Indian song to the Goddess

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:40 pm (PDT)

If a mountain could shine like the sun,
if its brilliance could penetrate the world's dark quarters,
if all the worlds joined together into this brilliance
and if this brilliance became a woman:
That would be a goddess. Devi: The Goddess.
I am that goddess. I am the force of the universe
in the shape of a woman. Nothing exists
that is not me, and nothing but me exists.
All women are but manifestations of me.
And I am the manifestation of all women.
And all women praise me thus: Devi, eternal
embodiment of the universal feminine,
you who create the world and sustain it,
we wreathe you with flowers and incense,
and we beg you to bring us virtue and richness.
~Devi Mahatmyam, Indian song to the Goddess

Who knows what the Goddess means? She has meant different things in different eras, in different cultures, to different people. She has been anger and rage as well as peace and fruitfulness. She is the totality of experience of each woman. And she is the divine, experienced in the form of and through the bodies of women. She cannot be limited to a single form, nor contained in a single body. She is more comprehensive than we can imagine. In meditating upon her vastness, we encounter it within ourselves.

Today's Goddess:  Ahurani

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:48 pm (PDT)

Today's Goddess:  Ahurani

Themes:  Luck; Health; Longevity; Harvest; Fertility
Symbol:  Water

About Ahurani:  Persians invoked Ahurani for prosperity, growth, fertility, and insight through water libations, and we can do likewise.  Her companion, Ahura
Mazda, is the Lord of Wisdom and helps us distinguish good from evil.

To Do Today:  People in Iran welcome the new year over thirteen days around the
spring equinox with festivities similar to those of many other cultures, including rituals for portents, luck, health, and long life.  Rain
today indicates Ahurani's pleasure and thus a good harvest.  Eating
sweet wheat breads or a nut compote today brings Ahurani's fortune and
fertility.  It's also very important to go outside today; otherwise, all bad luck stays within the house!

Quaff a full glass of fresh,
clean water today to internalize any of Ahurani's attributes you need.
Keep your mind strongly focused on your goal as you drink.  To improve
this little spell, dye the water with food coloring to match the magic.
Use green for growth, abundance, and fertility, or blue for wisdom.  In
keeping with Iranian custom, give a little of this water to the earth
as you invoke Ahurani's blessings.

Wear water-toned clothing today (blues and purples) to help you flow easily through the day and to accent Ahurani's energy.

Vernal Purification Spell

Posted by: "Cher Chirichello" CHIC0411@YAHOO.COM   chic0411

Wed Mar 30, 2011 7:49 pm (PDT)

Vernal Purification Spell
.
Put all of your cleaning supplies, plus your list of chores to do, on the
floor of the most used room in the house—maybe the kitchen, maybe the
family room. Cast a circle by sweeping around the supplies with a broom, starting at the east. As you sweep, visualize the house becoming clean, and also everyone in the house becoming happy, cheerful, and healthy.
You can use various cleaning implements to cast a more elaborate circle, if you desire. Invoke your favorite goddess of the home—for example,
Hestia, the Roman goddess of the hearth—and ask her to bless your work
and your house. After you have finished the preparation, get to
cleaning. After you're done all the cleaning for the day, thank the
goddess before you put away the cleaning equipment.

Hi! I live in Midland Park and am moving to Arizona shortly. Like, as soon as I
can sell my house. In the past I had a .com retail website called 'The Dragon's
Lair' which I actually dissolved in 2006. I still have 'product' that I'd prefer
to go to a good home. New tarot decks, some Shoyeido incense, mini pillar candle
holders, some mini pillars, lots of ritual kits, prisms, some jewelry and wands
(both crystal and wood), and much more. Please contact me at clwulfers@gmail.com
to make arrangements to come, see what I've got and hopefully give my 'stuff' a
good home(s).

ASAP is best on this, because I'm going to be starting to show the house next
week. The sooner I can make space the better.
